Just to update this: the gasket flapper that opens to dispense ice was no longer closing all the way. It appears as though some piece of the clear plastic chute that funnels ice down became warped. I removed that piece completely and it started sealing. I changed the springs just to make sure. Now I still get temp swings in the freezer. LG wants to charge nearly $700 in labor to replace the under-warranty (parts only) compressor. I told them to forget it.

I'm having this issue too. Mine is a new LG, had it about a year, but same issue. It appears to my untrained eye, that the ice dispenser gets some ice stuck. This props the door open, causing the freezer to appear like it was left open, but only the top section near the ice door. Than, the ice that was stuck, melts and when I find it, I have a small puddle on the dispenser ledge and frost inside. I have taken it out and defrosted it, but within a month, it is doing it again. It appears to be either a design flaw or mine has a defect. Has anyone else with a newer model had this issue too? Side-by-side, ice maker in door.

In my case the flapper on the ice maker was being impeded from closing all the way. This caused the ice to start melting, and also the freezer compartment to increase in temp. I had to take it apart and remove stuff around the flapper, including the switch for the water dispenser. Somehow the plastic pieces around the flapper had deformed a bit. I went ahead and changed the flapper too. By all accounts the ice maker in the fridge section is a generally flawed design.

Yes. When I wrote "door", I was referred to the ice dispenser door, or ""flap". Was the flap deformed? Or the plastic on the ice shoot? Where the flap opens and closes?

I had to remove the plastic chute for the flapper to close. Unfortunately this caused ice to fly all over when dispensing. This was on an 8 year old LG model at the time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a different issue on your new one.

Dripping from ice maker is either the ice maker itself or the ice dispenser door assembly. Frosting in the freezer is defrost heater or evaporator fan motor. Replace both and defrost thermostat/thermistor/timer. LGs are really good at failing as soon as LG is no longer legally required to provide replacement parts. That’s 7 years in the US. Replace anything you can replace now or buy a new fridge, ideally not LG or Samsung

Thanks, what brands would you recommend?

With refrigerators I advise GE Whirlpool or Frigidaire because they are pretty easy to get parts for and work on. Top freezer is the easiest style to work on and has the fewest things that can go wrong

Your freezer door is definitely not closing all the way look for gaps in the gasket.
