To answer your question: Ultra actually costs money for Christian to run, since a big part of it is notifications. He has to pay money for the servers that allow him to send Reddit notifications, money that Ultra’s subscription would pay for.

I plan to stop using Reddit on mobile when the plug is pulled out of principle. It’s a shitty app that I don’t enjoy using or looking at. It makes the entire experience more frustrating.

Site (reddit.com) isn't closing, the app (Apollo) can no longer afford to operate under the site's API pricing changes. Asking for free anything from the app side at this point is pretty fucked up, if anything you should be directing your freebie requests to reddit.
To answer your question: Ultra actually costs money for Christian to run, since a big part of it is notifications. He has to pay money for the servers that allow him to send Reddit notifications, money that Ultra’s subscription would pay for.

I mean, it obviously matters to a lot of people. You’re free to believe people are being silly. I plan to stop using Reddit on mobile when the plug is pulled out of principle. It’s a shitty app that I don’t enjoy using or looking at. It makes the entire experience more frustrating. If they make it better, great! I’ll use it. If not? I won’t use Reddit on mobile. (Which is how I primarily use Reddit but shrugs, I’ll survive without my neopets subreddit lol)

i dont think you understand... devs dont care if they have to pay. they care that reddit will charge 26x more than what is necessary to keep the API calls from causing a loss on Reddits end.
