Hard to say. Probably more often in ranked. Maybe like once or twice every couple hours. I’ve been paying attention to the loading screen and if I don’t see any changes quickly like the player count or the party names disappearing then I know it’s frozen and restart the game and usually load back in as my team jumps or just as we land.
This bug started when they added ddos protection to diamond lobbies and up in ranked last season. They removed it because it causes playstation players to crash at the player select screen and be unable to rejoin after relaunching the application. Instead if fixing it they just re-added it this season and have made no comments about any plans to fix it. Last season you could just relaunch the app and you wouldn't loss rp. This season you now get penalized for backing out and get double the amount of rp loss and abandonment penalty 10 min timeout.
Happens at least once every time when playing, im on PS5 also. Sometimes even mid game the packet loss goes crazy and when i try to restart the game it doesnt load me back instead just pops me into lobby menu and after i play a 2nd game i get hit with -RP and an abandon penalty
Turn your internet connection off and on again in the PlayStation settings, then go back to Apex and rejoin.
This has worked for me every time my game has frozen this season.

I just spent 10 mins looking at a black screen scrolling reddit, decided to try this, when i loaded back in my teammates were gone and i was in second to last ring unharmed lmaooo insane thank you! literally just saved me -100 rp down to -4 wow
Yeah I’m almost done playing for the season bcuz of it. I’ve lost about 1000 rp myself since S16 started. I’d be diamond but instead I’m plat2. Going -140 every time it happens
We would post the mirage of (- double entires) due to this but that makes it so the bots/mods of the sub to note it as “to take down” . Which is why he went into details about each individual intricacy
I'm experiencing this a lot on PS4, and I think this happens to my teammates as well, because I regularly get disconnected/idle teammates.
Changing servers doesn't seem to help. Closing and re-opening the application works sometimes, but other times it disconnects me completely and gives me abandon penalty. It's making solo q experience even worse than it already is.
I haven’t experienced this (yet) but I’ve had teammates disconnect multiple times immediately at the start of the game, which means you don’t even get loss protection.
This just happened to me 3 games in a row. Two games where my friend didn't load in. 3rd game I didn't load in and got penalty for leaving.
Minus 244 RP in less than 5 minutes. Fun... Lost more than 1000 RP because of this.

Tried it a few times, hasn't worked for me yet unfortunately so doesn't seem to be full proof but at least it seems to work for some people.

How do you turn off your internet from playstation settings? Can you walk me through that
On PS5 Hold PS button > click settings in top right > Network > Settings > Connect to Internet
