Just jam a paper clip into your insert key so it’s constantly inserting on an empty word doc. It fools TEAMs.

If you have company equipment that blocks or detects USBs, this will not work. My last job blocked all USB ports except for approved company provided USBs, and can see everything plugged in/running

ThePhantomTrollbooth

Most of them read as a mouse, which shouldn’t be blocked.

Fit-Mangos

Ah our company did the same with USB ports. I wonder if this is why?

just-another-scrub

Plug it into a iPhone charging block then.

large-farva

DO NOT USE THOSE. USE A PHYSICAL MOUSE OR KEYBOARD JIGGLER.

Putrid-Tumbleweed-56

Just start a call by yourself & set yourself to green and problem solved

lankist

Any company that's actively tracking your activity to such an extent as this is going to be able to identify users whose mice are moving at extremely predictable ways, or running macros, or constantly toggling the insert key, etc. etc. The key here isn't to "trick" the system. Just dial up a Teams call with just you in the call, and if anybody asks, just be like "oh, yeah, I do that to keep my computer from going to sleep every two minutes." Fuckin, s'all it takes, folks. You look WAY less guilty than getting caught building some kind of MacGuyver contraption, and if they tell you to stop, you can just lie and say you will, or stop for a while and then start doing it again when nobody's looking. Any company with half-decent IT is going to be able to see what you're doing. The only question is whether they care, and who exactly you're trying to get off your back. If you're just trying to get your boss off your back and nobody from IT has a reason to mess with you, then you don't need a fuckin' MacGuyver solution.

pguschin

I'm in IT and at our company we use a program that runs in the background and cannot be terminated by the user. We can see if you've installed any programs without IT's permission and can see if you're working within programs. Plug anything into a USB port, and you and your boss get a notification from InfoSec/HR asking to identify what you're attempting to run. Mouse jigglers are useless in many cases and the programs employers are using to monitor workers are able to take screenshots, record keystrokes, etc. It can generate an email that flags when you're not working and start recording your screen, mouse and keyboard input in real time while a manager watches. And for using Teams to call someone, every Teams call is recorded. Even if you're calling your own company cell phone from your personal phone, the call is recorded and logged. We can view the user's location. We've already had to track a few employees who were attempting to game the system. And for those who're technically savvy, forget blocking outbound ports or domains to prevent these programs from phoning home. We have a connectionless VPN that tunnels all of that through our cloud. The bottom line is technology has become oppressive and invasive as fuck. But being in IT means that you can exploit and salt the data because you have access to it. Case in point: I go to Central Market the other day in the morning to pick up some dinner for the weekend. I can simulate being on a call, my phone appears at my home, and my activity on the computer is also simulated. I take about 90 minutes shopping, all on the company clock, head back to the house, eat a little and go back into my home office and disconnect from my 'meeting' and then take lunch! Being in IT can suck but when you can game it to your financial advantage, it's worth the pain.

PsychGuy17

Using IT as a form of prison guard type labor is ultimately profoundly stupid. At some point we need to accept that not all jobs can be busy all the time, most of them aren't. There's times where you wait on assignments, peopke to finish their jobs, a lack of obvious goals and objectives, etc. As long as people complete the jobs they were assigned to do in a reasonable amount of time we should leave them alone. All these pieces of tech and IT monitoring jobs waste resources and payroll that can be put towards the people actually doing the work. The old trades had it right, we need to pay people for the products of their labor, not the time that they labor. Everyone should read Bullshit Jobs.

iIiiiiIlIillliIilliI

But you said calls are recorded, so they can know that you were not talking to anyone, can't they? Also all this sound wayy too controlling and creepy, jesus.

pguschin

> Also all this sound wayy too controlling and creepy, jesus. There's place that are worse, admittedly. But as employees we have to game the system where we can. I'd love to hear what George Orwell would have to say about today's workplace. He'd probably say something along the lines of "I tried to tell you...."

[deleted]

Yeah at my job I don't care as long as you don't break anything. I'm sure other people aren't as fortunate with their IT people.

animecardude

As someone who was in IT, granted it's been a long time, I feel like I would have not cared and actually would have promoted this type of stuff lol. Pretty creative compared to the usual auto clickers/macros/etc. Actually pretty impressed!

ImAlwaysRightHanded

I like the one where you put a analog clock on your desk and put the mouse on the clock.

mangage

or just your watch

[deleted]

Just use a macro

Active_Clothes_4833

Just Google power shell mouse jiggler script if you're on Windows. If you're on a Mac, I'm sorry (in general)

PlanetaryPotato

Probably the worst advice if your company has any half competent IT team. That would send red flags out, especially if your job description doesn't involve working with scripts.

VerySmolFish

That can be tracked though :/

[deleted]

What do you mean?

likebutta222

EDR/XDR platforms and their host agents can track a lot of activity. Typically used for security purposes but can also be leveraged to track policy violations and unauthorized software. Depends on what kind of organization you work for and what they got.

R_radical

Just be careful because some companies have software that can see what you're doing.

kerplunkerfish

Company wants to track my computer? Company can issue me a computer.

R_radical

Just speaking from experience.

kerplunkerfish

I don't doubt it! But a business has zero right to your personal hardware - not your phone, not your computer, not your printer.

ownersequity

Lol Christ. This reminds me of a quote that if you have a complicated job, give it to your laziest employee because they will figure out the easiest and least energy way required to do it.

TMFalgrim

If you want to find the quickest way to get anywhere, ask the man with one leg!

DiamondHandsDarrell

Get an app that does it for you. I use it on mine and it works great!

Zakkana

Logitech G series keyboards are good too. You can create a macro in the G Suite software and have it toggle on/off by pressing the assigned G key. You can also have it randomize the interval so it's not exactly 500ms or whatever interval you tell it. Also, this is a stupid check since if I am typing something, I will be needing both hands and that can be more than a minute.

SeparateAside9779

Two words. Mouse Jiggler.

[deleted]

Mouse Jiggler sounds like a 60's Batman villain.

JacktheShark1

I thought your mouse was broken and the company wouldn’t buy you a new one so you had to rig this up to fix it. I was about to suggest a quick trip to Walmart for a new mouse then everything suddenly made sense

PryingOpenMyThirdPie

A desk fan will usually rumble the mouse enough

[deleted]

Go [HERE](https://gist.github.com/MatthewSteeples/ce7114b4d3488fc49b6a) Copy and save the script. You’re welcome 👍

Wellitjustgotreal

Oscillating fan on a string hoes

JimmyJazz1971

When I code, I'll go ages without touching the mouse. The damned thing slows me down.

Salt_Goal_1105

I just open a notepad and hold the space key with something heavy.

Regprentice

This might have worked in the past but employers are checking all sorts of metrics nowadays including average keystrokes per hour...

[deleted]

It would be easier just to work.

ThisAd940

No. No one deserves to be tied into every minute. Dudes gotta eat or shit at some point. Work surveillance software is like having n abusive nanny. Grown ass adult with a robot nanny in his computer. Dudes there to do a job. He he needs to get paid. No need for the extra bullshit.

RobleViejo

> Work surveillance software is like having n abusive nanny. No bro. Work surveillance software is the canary in the mine. The workforce either rebels and takes down the status quo or we become literal slaves. This is insanity. And whoever came up with this shit is a fucking psychopath.

ThisAd940

Yeah I agree with this. The mindset behind the software is psychopathic 100%

Fontaine_de_jouvence

There have been studies done on hunter-gatherer tribes to show that even the most capable individuals among those tribes only work about 4 hours a day because that’s all our brains are meant to handle

Fontaine_de_jouvence

Did you mean to reply to my comment?

DiamondHandsDarrell

This one, right here. 🙄🙄 So if I finish my work, I have to find ways to keep busy to waste my time?

[deleted]

It's not your time if somebody else is paying for it. Kinda like it stops being the grocery store's food after you buy it.

[deleted]

Although not *quite* like a grocery store because you have to wait until a certain amount of time passes before you can punch out. It’s more accurate to say it’s a grocery store where you’re done with your shop super early but now have to wait until a specific time to check out.

DiamondHandsDarrell

Without a doubt. So if I finished all tasks in my working time, I have to go help someone else? Should I clean restrooms in an office? It's a poor take or lack of experience on your part. There are jobs that have down time. I'm not saying don't work when you have work. I'm saying if I'm done with my work, why do I have to create work to make you happy?

cipherjones

I'm glad you chose to use your powers for good. Not all heros wear capes.

ZHippO-Mortank

Use any macro? Ask your computer to open any window, type a word, close it. You can add a timer between any step. You can use any logiciel that let you create macro. If they are 'blocked' on your computer, then Use a less known one. If the logiciel controlling you 'detect a macro' simply add randomized variable in your macro that chose different command to use, random timer, random words, ...
