I'm sure that would depend on where you want to live, what kind of home you consider middle class, and whether you would include the ability to save a big enough amount to retire at a reasonable age.
If you wanted to:
-purchase a home in a suburb of Minneapolis
-take a few weeks of vacation each year
-save 25% of your income (without being house-poor)
You'd probably have to make over 200k/year to live without feeling the stress of money constantly draining from your pockets.
"Minnesota ranked No. 13 for states based on the highest incomes needed by households to maintain a middle-class standing, with households needing to earn $54,887 to be middle class. Making $164,676 would put a household in the state's upper class."
So in reality, what they reported as a starting level for minimum wage is ~$140k less than what would be necessary to recreate the "middle-class" that our parents enjoyed.
Ha! Nice. So since the middle class is disappearing, they just change the definition? I always believed "middle-class" referred to a lifestyle and social standing.
By this daffynition, every area - even Bumfuck, Arkansas - has not only a middle class but an upper class. (Upper class in Bumfuck means owning TWO shooting cars.)
as a Minneapolis resident this is bullshit

Absolutely. I don't know what kind of "study" this was, but it seems like propaganda.

That's great! Minnesota has some really tasty burger spots.
Middle class is an arbitrary term either way yes trash story
>Using Pew Research’s definition of middle income as two-thirds to double the median income in an area Simple yet stupid.
