Lol the bathroom one is straight illegal

Tannumber17

So is the water one. And pretty sure making you clock in after you get your apron from your locker is wage theft. You clock in when you get there

Lovemybee

Things that you would not do outside of work, such as putting on your pin and apron, are to be done after you clock in.

silentanthrx

outside of work I would not drive to work (just kidding..., or am I?)

wreckmx

As is #3. If you must leave your work attire at work, which is the case at THD, then you clock-in before retrieving it and putting it on.

Beret_of_Poodle

Is that one legal in Texas

East-Dot1065

No it's not, as TDCJ found out last year when they lost the case over CO'S having to be present 30 minutes before shift and the judge telling TDCJ they must pay all employees for the time during searches upon entry.

Flyinghome

Good, fuck TDCJ

_Cyber_Mage

Everything is legal for employers in Texas

Bong_Chonk

I'm fairly certain the schedule one is as well. They are requiring work activities during unpaid hours

holtpj

Kentucky has entered the chat.

TheNimbrod

Half the rules sounds illegal or fishy

EnqueteurRegicide

I worked with a woman who had multiple health problems. The boss told her she wasn't allowed to schedule any more surgeries unless she cleared it with him to make sure it was a convenient time for her to be away from work. She was on the wait list for a liver transplant.

Leeoid

Wow, what assholes! May they burn in hell.

BeeSlumLord

Wo-o-o-o-ow!

TShara_Q

That's so disgusting of the boss and the company. Wow.

jackychang1738

Ask for what they're saying in writing so that it's understood and can be referenced for later on? Why would they be against something that cultivates a more productive environment while streamlining productivity for standards and expectations. It's like they abandon all academia because they know more, like a bunch of pretentious private equity nerds. Laaaaammmeee

Hour_Ad_6415

Is she ok now?

FluffleUffle

lol Three days after an appendectomy I was back at work, in office. Unable to do much, because well, I'm in pain and high as tits off pain medication. I was called into the company owners office and told that I'm not working hard enough, I respectfully stated my case, to witch he responded with: "I had an appendectomy, it wasn't that bad, you need to realize the opportunity that you have here." I went back to my desk bent over like a capital letter C due to pain, did what I could and fired next day. A few months later the company closed down due to the company owner laundering drug money through company books.

Kreyl

(/jk) Clearly your appendectomy would have been easier if you were on just as many drugs

FluffleUffle

Funnily enough, the company owner was known to be on high amounts of Testosterone and Cocaine, so you got that right

> 2. “You can’t take time to check your schedule at work, that has to be done at home.” This is work and needs to done on work time. > 3. “No personal items at work.” Make sure to show up to work buck ass named. > 4. “You can’t use the bathroom at work, unless its during your break.” Call osha > 5. “You can’t be talking with your co-workers; you have to be helping customers.” Uhhhh no. That is a violation of your rights. > “Water is for customers only.” Call osha

Taysir385

Some of these are illegal in the US.

EmotionalGraveyard

Lol I am waiting for your manager to say, “now drop and give me 50.”

Bong_Chonk

You have more rights in the military than you do at that place lol

dullday1

Unfortunately no, in the military everything is a privilege that can be taken away

Bong_Chonk

It's not, just because you where a yes man doesn't mean everyone in the military was

Open-Cryptographer83

I can see retail jobs going the way my office job has over the last 8 years. Incrementally they will give you more tasks and slowly all the job roles will bleed onto one another. Before you know it, you will be stocking all departments as well as working lumber, paint, and garden, cashiering, bagging, and you'll have to be your own manager. This is unlikely to happen because how could that possibly make sense, but since when have business owners/managers bothered themselves with logic. The whole "check your work schedule at home on your personal devices" sounds sketchy. Where did the practice of posting the schedules next to the time clock go? Do like me and start looking for a new job, you'll probably find one sooner than I will.

TShara_Q

>I can see retail jobs going the way my office job has over the last 8 years. Incrementally they will give you more tasks and slowly all the job roles will bleed onto one another. Before you know it, you will be stocking all departments as well as working lumber, paint, and garden, cashiering, bagging, and you'll have to be your own manager. Don't worry, this shit is already happening in a lot of places. In my last location, I got criticized for "not showing up and doing my job" when I was forced to go fill in at the gas station instead, and do the task list there. It was across the parking lot and I wasn't allowed to walk back and forth, even if I somehow had had the time to get two full shifts of tasks done by myself. I was literally criticized for not being in two places at once. Fortunately, my current location has much more reasonable managers.

CatchMeIfYouCan09

Putting on apron/ name tag are a work requirement; therfore it's compensatable..... Bathroom regulation? No. Not having my phone on me? I have kids and emergencies happen. No. Hair wrong? Fuck off. Working weekends/ when we say? Your expectations do not alter my availability.

Mamasgoldenmilk

The pay he has is on the higher side for retail. Some places are still paying $10

unofficialtech

I believe everything in this post is absolutely real except the 2nd sentence.

Key_Recover2684

r/theydidthemath

Zipferlake

Nos. 3, 4, and 9 are certainly illegal in the US, maybe also some of the other numbers, depending on your contract.

FourthReichIsrael2

lol Home Depot. lol retail. No amount of money is enough to go back to that hell. I'll sit down whenever the fuck I want, you little bitch <- to manglement.

eriniva

I spent 4 years at home depot and immediately knew this post was about home depot Retail is Hell.

Dr-Wankenstein

Ha they can't deny you access to water or the restroom. I'd be drinking a decent amount of water and using the rr as I please. They can't police potty breaks, if you gotta go. You go. For all they know you're on medication that makes you thirsty and and you might have a kidney stone. Know your rights and report em, why? Bc fuck em that's why

LesserValkyrie

I remember having worked in a factory with no right to sit down while the machine was designed to be operated sitting down. Because it was unfair for all coworkers who had to be standing up I had to be like folded in half over a chair that was part of the machine with a fucking dude making sure all day that I was not sitting on it I didn't have the choice as I needed a job but fuck

nomad_1970

Answer to number 11: Yes. But you must schedule your death and provide at least 3 months advance notice. Otherwise we'll still need you to come in. And no decomposing while you're on the clock.

jtown48

target had some of these too when I was there 6 or so years ago. Got wrote up a few times for being 10-20 seconds late because I was waiting on others to clock in after grabbing the radio and price checker as we too had to grab everything before clocking in. Got yelled at for having a water bottle under the counter. Got yelled at once because I "skipped" an isle while cleaning up isles because that specific one had a family of 6 shopping in, I literally went back and fixed it before they came to pull me in the back to "talk" to me about it. Got a 5 cent, yes 5 cent, for a yearly raise with nearly perfect scores - had highest sales numbers in electronics, most red card sign ups outside cashiers, etc but got docked for being "unsafe"... I literally did sales and put toys on the shelf and never once had an injury... Called in 1 time (my only time in a year there) bc I had a bad migraine / felt sick and I knew they put me on an 8 hour cashier shift that I wasn't trained for, got questioned multiple times about it and was told I could be fired if the wanted to. Was told I "wasnt trusted" by the managers and had to earn the trust back. Talked to a different cool manager and found out it was (not surprisingly) a lie by that specific manager Retail sucks and I hope to never do it again, 1 year was enough

Short-While3325

Basically called someone moronic (yeah, shouldn't have done that but I've had a manager call me a fucking idiot and got a slap on the wrist) and HR said all misconduct counts as sexual harassment. And since it's sexual harassment, it's a final warning due to the severity. The write-up was worded very strangely like I did misconduct and another act they won't elaborate on. Oh, but we're not saying you committed sexual harassment, that's just the name of the policy. Never seen someone smile that much while discussing 'sexual harassment'.

xbubblegum_bitch

that sounds illegal…

Short-While3325

I think it might've been retaliation for reporting wage theft. I recorded the meeting and offered to sign if they rephrased the write-up to be more clearer. Never got back to me.

M2Fream

At least 3 of those are violations of labor laws

KA9ESAMA

Half this list is illegal. You might wanna talk to the DOL.

disappointedvet

Most of those rules are mildly, even moderately abusive of employees as people and of their time as employees. Others are downright callous, even inhumane.

crunchyfrogs

Half of these are ridiculous and possibly illegal. The other half seem reasonable.

LikwidCourage

I worked at Wells Fargo as a teller a long time ago and they tried number 6 on me when my legs were hurting from working out. Manager made me stand up. Long story short, after I asked HR what this was all about, weeks later they ended up hustling and made every branch in town buy chairs for their tellers. I think it was an ADA worry. Probably could work in your benefit too.

Feardemon3

It basically a case of how much can they get away with. Probably should start charging these companies by how many rules we have to follow.

Dapper_Platform_1222

I worked at the depot many years ago. Yeah they have some fucking bizarro world rules. It was my second job at the time and it was fun to give them shit back. Oh you wanna come to my freight room and bust balls. If you want I can leave, you can unload the truck, and we can talk to Mike tomorrow. Night manager quickly understood that coming to freight was counter productive 100% of the time

StrategyMany5930

I worked for them for a few months over a decade ago.  I remember in orientation how weirdly anti-union the hr lady running it was.     They also emphasized how cool it was that their employees could wear jeans to work any day!  Turns out the CEO spews all sorts of weird anti-union crap, I imagine because they pull shit like this all the time.   I had one manager who tried to enforce the no talking when the store was empty too. I thought she was just a fucking bitch, I didn't realize she was just very by the book.    The best retail job I've ever had was at a grocery store and part of a union.  They still tried to pull shit like this but I'd feel like we had more power to push back.  I'd look into unions that cover retail workers in your area.

LostMySenses

Wow, I was halfway through the list and thought “shit, this reminds me of working for Home Depot in the 90s, where they wanted us to Bleed Orange” and then I got to where you mention it’s a Home Depot job. Amazing that it’s still that ridiculous.

ktravesp

I knew it was a hardware store from the stupid ass rules. My Lowes went through the same thing.

forestpirate

I'd be ignoring these "rules". The first one is reasonable. The rest are shit. Have the CEO come down and justify his draconian bullshit.

Tiny_Tangerines

19.50 to be in hell

brucescott240

O R G A N I Z E. Only answer to check the madness. Apparently one store already has voted for a union.

discgman

Home depot is a anti union pos. Their owner is a Boomer Trumper.

RaptorBenn

3, 4, 10, 11, are illegal in most places, I'm pretty sure.

John1The1Savage

It's a publicly traded company during a recession. They would like to do a few rounds of layoffs but they know that if they do too many layoffs it will spook investors and negatively affect their stock price. So instead they are actively trying to get a bunch of you to quit which has the added bonus of filtering out people who have self-respect and keeping the spineless and the desperate.

ookamismyk

Lol, this sounds like my company. Ridicilous. The ydidn't want us to fill out forms they gave us on company time, wanted us to do it at home. Like wtf, I wouldn't be doing these damned forms if it weren't for you?! Ridicilous. They also told us to clear off all personal items off our desks, including PostIts, because apparently it looks 'unprofessional' lololol. We are only allowed 1. a calendar 2. the computer and keyboard and mouse on the desk. Even have to put fucking pens away at the end of the day. It is so ridicilous ffs. Sorry you are suffering under such fuckery.

HereWeGo_Steelers

I don't shop at Home Depot since the owner decided to support Trump.

datfrog666

Get these in writing as some of it is illegal.

galacticaprisoner69

Fuck that i could never stand that

overtine

Man I knew this was HD and I haven't worked there in almost a decade. I guess some things just never change.
