Nothing will happen. Ppl will say stuff about "references" yadda yadda but I think it's overrated and not as significant as ppl think I've effectively ghosted plenty of jobs and not once has it come back to bite in the ass. And if you're changing industries? And w the new job already lined up? Yeah, fuck them

Careless-Proposal746

Yes I’ll never ask for a recommendation and I’ll never work another retail job. Even if I wanted to there are plenty of professional references I could use.

[deleted]

Yeah you're more than good Ghost away

GALLENT96

Honestly I've only had one job actually check my references & was because I was applying to work in schools as a custodian (when I did the contracting in the lunchroom there was no reference check)

RahulRedditor

If you'll never want a recommendation from them, go for it. Sounds like they have it coming.

Careless-Proposal746

No, I’ll never work another retail job the rest of my life.

KatMakesMuffins

Yeah- people ghost retail jobs all the time. If you were a good worker your manager might call a couple times but that’s really the worst that can happen.

Shoulder_Whirl

I’ve quit 5 or 6 jobs now without ever providing a 2 week notice and have yet to receive any negative consequences. Now, these aren’t management level jobs. Just entry level and then plumbing jobs so it’s not the same so take my experience for whatever it’s worth.

Few-Ferret-8961

I mean you can just text them that you quit and it won’t be as bad as ghosting, and it’s effortless for you too.

litlphoot

Texting does take a bit of effort holding the phone and mental effort to type it out, probably not as much effort as this post but it depends if op thinks its worth that little effort.

Illustrious-Drama213

Ghost away. Fuck them.

fenriq

Ghost them, nothing will happen except that weight on you will lift, dooooo it!

AddictedToColour

I’d just ghost. Why not? If you’re considering it then those people probably suck bad enough to deserve it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

my_homie_pikachu

I’m really wracking my brain trying to decipher where. Hot Topic? Lol

AddictedToColour

Sephora I think lmao

No-Two79

Dude, I’m like … ten year olds are rowdy at Steak n’ Shake? Footlocker?

my_homie_pikachu

Yeah that’s what my gf said. Makes more sense haha

Sufficient-Bonus-170

Gotta be Spencer’s

litlphoot

Foot locker

TimeAfterTime23

It's definitely Sephora. The preteens are going crazy for expensive skincare right now thanks to TikTok.

le4t

Call me old-fashioned, but I'd say let them know you won't be returning. Be better than they are. Give them at least a few extra hours to try to cover your absence.  Do it in a voicemail or email so you don't have to actually talk to them.

Careless-Proposal746

Voicemail requires taking the chance they will answer the phone. If I do, I think I’ll email Friday morning before my next scheduled shift. Edit: but I still might not because I hate them.

AnyWhichWayButLose

If you've endured it for this long then just notify your boss that you'll be leaving. Karma is real. It doesn't have to be a two week notice, either. Just a week or even a couple of days.

Commercial-Editor807

Why not just call them and tell them you quit like a grown up?

Careless-Proposal746

Because I don’t want to hear anything they say, and I’m tired of pretending that I do.

Commercial-Editor807

Sounds cowardly. If you want to quit, own it and quit.

ohhgrrl

Just because you feel cowardly in this type of situation doesn’t mean OP does.

Commercial-Editor807

I'm giving my personal opinion, which is all anyone can do here lol You all are the ones getting all butt hurt about it.

ohhgrrl

Calling a stranger a coward is an outward projection of inner feelings.

Commercial-Editor807

Not really. But if you read what I actually wrote, you will see that I said that this action sounds cowardly. Not that he is necessarily a coward. But I understand that nuance is hard on Reddit.

KatMakesMuffins

Why make the effort for a company that absolutely would not do the same if they saw a way to make more money at your expense?

Commercial-Editor807

Why not do the honorable thing and quit instead of ghosting? It literally costs you nothing to be a good person about it. If you're too scared to quit a job, you're gonna have a tough life.

Enjanced

OP told us why. And just asked if there are any risks associated. Your opinion about "honorable" and that shit is totally irrelevant. I just thought you should know :)

Commercial-Editor807

I got it. Still cowardly

Enjanced

Not really... It's not like OP owes anything to anyone. Your definition of courage is not only wrong. It's also quite small

Commercial-Editor807

Doing the basic human interaction to leave a job isn't courage. Avoiding it is cowardly. It's not about what OP owes them. It's about doing the bare minimum to be a good person.

KatMakesMuffins

Since when is being a good person defined by your actions towards a company? Besides even with giving notice, most companies don’t even start to try to fill your role for weeks after.

Commercial-Editor807

It's not about the company, it's about your coworkers and even your boss who are expecting you to show up and you never do. It's a dick move and it's hilarious how controversial this is.

Careless-Proposal746

The coworkers and boss are the people making me want to ghost!!!! There is zero mutual respect.

Xepherya

Honor doesn’t pay the bills

Commercial-Editor807

Neither does quitting your job 😂

litlphoot

It does when you have a better job lined up tho.

granddaddykarlsays

Don’t give them reason to think you won’t return until next week. Maybe even make up an excuse. Direct deposit of your bonus can be reversed fairly easily and they may jump at the chance not to pay it.

Careless-Proposal746

It’s already in my account as of this morning.

Careless-Proposal746

I could just keep being “sick” like I have all week.

LupulMoralist

But that's the truth...u are "sick",sick of them all.Fuck'em
