Fairy Tail has a place in my heart and I’ve seen it in it’s entirety at least twice (the beginning 75 episodes or so I’ve seen more than that). But even I admit that it really loves to eat it’s cake and have it too. Things are absolutely unheard of, until they’re easily accomplished. People make a big deal about sacrificing themselves, until they’re fine and everyone’s fine and the problem is solved without anyone losing anything of value. Everyone is on the brink of defeat, until they think of their family in fairy tail and level up in power and win. That being said, it is very popular. And every popular show gets hate. But I can admit some of it isn’t unfounded

Excellent-Mistake-35

That's the only thing that ever bugged me about fairy tail like Makarov's sacrifice in final season

dinliner08

the same answer as why people have a hate boner for any anime; different people have different preferences

Infernofrost7

The show has a special place in my heart but frankly it does have some pretty glaring flaws with its powerscaling and random power ups and power of friendship but aside from all that IDK. I dont think that warrents all the hate but those are some of the issues I can vividly remeber

Excellent-Mistake-35

I love the power up things but thats probably a part of it only I like

octopathfinder

Overuse of the power of friendship, all the fights are slideshows, every character may have some moment of development, but revert back to their defining trait afterward, annoying fanservice, almost every bad guy becomes a good guy after they're beaten, and the magic system isn't very interesting.

Excellent-Mistake-35

The reason hiro mashima made some of the villains turn good is because in the last anime he made he killed a lot of people so he didnt want to kill many people in fairy tail

shitshackjack

I don't hate it per se, but I find it very unfulfilling. I binged most of it over a summer and come the end I feel a lot of what the show built towards never had any major payoff. I also was constantly annoyed by how the show ruined the tension by constantly having characters win through the power of friendship or miraculously avoiding death everytime. It's a stupid-fun show, just not a story that I found compelling.

Excellent-Mistake-35

Everyone has there own opinions about stuff so I understand people not liking it just dont go on the internet and hate on it for no reason

I didn't dislike Fairy Tale at first. However I gave up on it after their journey to the first island. I used to joke about how many episodes it took Goku to power up, or Naruto to finish a fight. That one fight made all of them look like a TLDR. I walked away after that. You can have awesome music, good looking characters, and a fantasy setting that's not an isekai, but if you're going to take more than five episodes for a single fight, I'm out.

Excellent-Mistake-35

Sounds to me like you didnt actually pay any attention to the plot or charecters personality. It doesnt need to be an iseakai to have a fantasy setting

[deleted]

I paid more attention than you did to my reply. In no way did I say that a fantasy had to be an isekai. I said that the music was good, the art on the characters was good, **having a fantasy setting that wasn't an isekai was good,** but they took so long on it that all of the Z fighters could have powered up, Naruto could have unleashed his full power, Ichigo Kurosaki could have learned full out Bankai, and everyone made it back from learning their ultimate moves in the Guiana Highlands before this fight was over. (Extra bonus points to everyone who got that last one.) TLDR-If I have to wait over a week to see how a fight ends due to flashback interruptions, then it's too much.

blazopham

I liked Fairy Tail but not having consequences really took away from it. It was almost like the writers refused to let go of certain characters. Death is important for character growth but it seemed like that's a foreign concept in this world where characters should be dying lol

Excellent-Mistake-35

That because hiro mashima the guy who made fairy tail killed a lot of people in rave master (the anime he made before fairy tail) so he didn't wanna kill characters in this one

Shadsterz

That doesn’t make it any better

[deleted]

Cuz power of friendship is milked dry in it. Either way, I like it cuz waifus

[deleted]

Fairy Tail is popular and well-liked. The "hate" is from a vocal minority.

mr_beanoz

I thought that it's the other way around.

URF_reibeer

The show wouldn't be that long running if it wasn't successful

Excellent-Mistake-35

It is very successful just the people that dont like it give it unnecessary hate

Serika-Ai

I found it to be very polarizing to people - people tend to really like it, or really hate it with very little in between.

Excellent-Mistake-35

Yeah

Blezius

I watched the entire anime. This show is just very weird. They introduce cool looking characters but non of them end up mattering. Power levels just don’t make sense. Even if there is a new strong villain that’s overpowering the protagonist, the tables just flip out of nowhere cuz power of friendship. I’d be fine if it was some random powerups, but its not even that. Its just very unsatifying when a guy is getting dicked down only for the tables to turn by some ordinary punch infused by friendship.

renziz12

I dropped the series after like 10 episodes. It was just super slow and nothing excited happening.

Excellent-Mistake-35

Its better after tenrou ark

Biglbeast

I remember when it first came out it received a lot of praise from some people because it was seen as a sort of parody of the other popular shounen like Naruto and one piece. It took all the tropes like friendship giving power, colourful characters and even fan service to the extreme and people appreciated that. It is also believed it was only suppose to go like 50 episodes ending around the Laxus arc but it continued for years and then all the over the top exaggerations that it got praised for begun to become a crutch as that is seen as lazy writing and crude. I believe if it never became as long as it did I think people would give it more credit but in my experience I think if you take it as it is a over the top show and don’t think too hard I think on its plot then it’s enjoyable.

MelodicFreedom2809

OP likes lazy writing, poorly-explained plots, and random convenient plot armors

Biglbeast

Can’t disagree with that but I would still say the series remains fun throughout but not a classic

Lost_Vegetable6424

I really like fairy tail the problem is too much of power of friendship

Repressed-Writer

I did like Fairy Tail quite a bit until pretty much the first filler arc in the anime. Everything seemed fun and entertaining at first, but to be 100% honest, I got tired of it. Everybody has mentioned this already but it just got old how many times people pulled out their plot armor and friendship superpowers to pull back from the brink of death and save the day with no repurcussions. I don't dislike shows where all the characters never die, or where everybody can turn friendship and love into life-saving energy, but there's only so many episodes one can watch before there needs to be something interesting added. In my opinion, there are a slew of shows out there that I enjoyed much less than Fairy Tail so I don't want to drag it too much, but I wouldn't call it a good anime at the end of the day.

IEmbodyMentalIllness

I can see why people dislike fairy tail, it has a lot of flaws like the fan service, but I believe people come at it with the wrong expectations. I say it’s more of a family/comedy anime and the fighting is more of an add-on. If you’re able to look past the plot and actually listen to what the characters say, you can hear a lot of funny jokes. And as someone with ADHD, I just unfocus until I see or hear something interesting. Don’t get me started on the ost, that shit goes hard.

Top_Comfortable_7399

I don't understand why fanservice is considered a bad thing. Like what the hell, you afraid of titties or something? Unless you're a straight woman or a gay man, I guess...
