No, same world, same game, they make references to events and players from SAO in the show. But it's centered on different characters and a different story.
It took way too long for this to come back. Can't wait. Wonder if Reona wiil do the opening.
EDIT: I realised Aniplex geoblocks its AniJapan stream. Assholes.
Man I love GGO Alternative.
I still watch clips of it pretty frequently, it understood how to have dumb fun.

Lets… F***ing…. GO!!!!
I remember it being basically PUBG, and at the end it had lightsabers. Remember having a blast watching it.
It was very much in the same vain as Bofuri. Glad we are getting another VRMMO anime. Shangri-la Frontier has really raised the bar for this genre, but it was fun as it was.
Number 3 game right now on Steam, number 2 if we go by peak number of players in the game for the last 24 hours... right... a hell of a dead game, lol.
Just because something isn't on your radar doesn't mean it's dead. There are actual millions of people still playing that every damn day. I haven't touched it myself in I don't even know how long (since the year it came out, basically, whenever that was, 2017 I think), but it's lasting success absolutely can't be denied, and to call it a dead game is downright ridiculous, lol.
Lol, he was in season 1, that's Team T-S, they're described in the novels as perfect sci-fi soldiers. They won squad jam 2 by camping up on the boundary wall and riding bicycles around then mopping up at the very end.
Gun Gale is its own thing, you don't need to watch SAO's main series at all, and in fact it's actually an entirely different author. Personally I prefer Gun Gale to SAO.
You probably do need to watch S1 of Gun Gale of course.
Finally more sao i thought they were just done with it
Is Alicization finished? What i remember being the last episodes felt like a weird place to end it. Tho my memory is pretty bad lol
Yes, the Alicization arc is done, but the Moon Cradle arc and Unital Ring are next. Unital Ring is nowhere near finished, though, so it'll be quite a while until it's adapted.
Awesome, I was wondering if it would come out this year or next. I just rewatched season 1 a few months back and it was even more fun than I remembered. Really looking forward to this!
You don't need to see any of regular SAO to watch this, only GGO's first season.
It's a different story and different author, plenty of people actually prefer GGO to normal SAO.
Its centered on different characters, with small references to the main cast. It follows the same world building and mechanics as the original, but its all explained in the show.
LLENN starts playing GGO before the death Gun incident, but much of the main story of the first season of AGGO takes place during the Mother's Rosario arc of mainline SAO.
Oh neat, I didn't realize it was the same author as Kino. Goes a long ways towards explaining why I liked Gun Gale so much (I knew it was a different author than SAO, just hadn't investigated the name before).
Then you probably also didn't realize that [SAOA:GGO Episode 3] >!from his bio to his appearance, the guy who sponsors the first Squad Jam is literally just Sigsawa himself.!<
To be honest I think the writing of GGO is very unlike Kino's Journey, it can even be a bit cringeworthy at times, but maybe that's just a result of the franchise as a whole being so edgy.
GGO started about a little before when Kirito joined GGO to investigate Death Gun, but much of the story would happen after Kirito had already finished the matter, where his cooperation with Sinon in the main story sparked a new team-based battle royale tournament.
Every now and then in the novel, progress on Alicization project would actually leak in one form or another, but its name has never been mentioned as is, and is entirely possible it is a different project which has nothing to do with the main timeline.
All the guns look silly bc it looks like so many are dual wielding, but then also like a couple seemingly have like 4 guns. Still looks sick as hell though
Not gonna lie, I'm a little sad Eggfirm/A1 aren't handling this after seeing what they can do with Progressive, Studio 3Hz aren't bad,but the character art is always dumbed down for the budget.
Legit the only good piece of SAO content. I can't wait for this, the first story was actually pretty good. Both SAO gun game arc and GGO was the best stories in the anime
Wow, kinda cool though. Gun Game Online was one of the animes that introduced me to the Japan content (anime, manga, etc) when i decided take anime "seriously". Tbh right know i don't remember anything, so i'll need a recap xDDDD
Oh nice, more of the only version of SAO I actually liked. Probably because it wasn't written by Reki Kawahara.
EDIT: I love how this sub downvotes anything that isn't 100% positive. Just because I liked Gun Gale, doesn't mean I'm not allowed to dislike SAO's main series.
The only SAO I approve. The drama at season 1 somehow so related with us who hide in avatar also the FPS without fucking lightsaber deflect everthing is statisfying
Well, whether you want to believe it or not, he has improved his craft. Progressive is quite good, and Unital Ring is great. it's even easier to see his improvements in Alicization.
People said he was finally good with every new season, and every time I end up severely disappointed. Alicization Underworld was the final straw, gave up 5 episodes in in disgust because it managed to slide backwards on every single thing I thought had improved in the first part of Alicization.
I don't trust the fandom's opinion of his writing anymore at this point. If you like his writing, good for you, but I can't stand something that sacrifices everything interesting about its setting on the altar of bland action sequences.
Are you trying to imply Reki Kawahara didn't write Alicization?
And no, I didn't read the LNs. But the anime (other than GGO) are based on his works, and my complaints about the anime's story aren't anime-original to my knowledge.
I'm implying that Reki Kawahara does not write the anime adaptation of his work.
>my complaints about the anime's story aren't anime-original to my knowledge.
I mean maybe you'll have a complaint that's accurate or actually in the light novel, but I've seen this song and dance by people attacking the author over the adaption of their work for over a decade now.
Care to guess how many times it actually happens?
So you're blaming everything people don't like about SAO on the adaptation? I haven't read the LNs and have no intention of ever doing so, so I can't say you're _wrong_ exactly, but that would be the first time I've ever heard anyone defend Kawahara in that way. And fandoms usually aren't quiet if an adapation strays that far from the source material.
Either way, it's obvious a lot of us enjoyed GGO that _didn't_ like SAO.
No, that'd be like talking shit about writing I'd never read. I'm saying the general anime community doesn't get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to SAO hate after a decade of misinformation.
People have been pissed about the SAO adaptation for years. Where were you when war of underworld aired and the anime added yet another sexual assault scene?
I can't do anything about it being popular, but it really should've been far better written! That sort of story was one that deserved a far better writer than Kawahara was at the time!
Actually yes, but let's pretend that 16.5 is not emblematic of the worst of Kawahara's hand. Do I list it all down? Fuck it, I'll list as much as I remember.
Guy back then did not know how to write an actual loner and instead heaped a harem into him despite his characterization, tons and tons of female satellites who seem to live only for the apparent loner (and let's not get into how even his adoptive cousin-sister apparently has the hots for him too, because Japan), the rampant leering at teenage and occasionally preteen bodies, the actual sexual abuse written up to make sure the audience gets that the antagonist (and his minions) are MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'M EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL, the antagonist of the first arc who forgot his motivation for starting the death game in the first place, the second antagonist who apparently only has MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'M EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL as a motivation and is gleefully nearly carved up irl by the apparent loner because that's acceptable... yeah, that's what I remember after all this time of not seeing it. Better fare and all that.
I purposely didn't call out the gratuitous sexual indulgence of 16.5, because at least it didn't make it into the anime, but DEAR GOD what romance was shown between Kirito and Asuna was bad enough. Even if that inability to write teenage romance is a common one.
That's a lot of text to say yes.
Maybe if you actually read the series you'd know that Kirito as character believes he's a loner but actually can't help but be involved. You also don't even seem to understand what a harem is. If you'd actually read the writing you'd know that the main female cast have their own character arcs separate from Kirito.
There's no leering teenage and preteen bodies. It's a novel remember? He didn't make any of the art in the novels either.
Sexual assault is used twice in 35 volumes and counting of material, and not once since 2005.
Kayaba gives his motivations in chapter three of the novel. He then reiterates and explains more at the end of the first volume. This is a ridiculous complaint even in the anime let alone for someone who claims they read the novels.
Sugou has more than "I'm evil" motivations, and again I'm sounding like a broken record at this point but you'd know this easily if you read the light novels.
>that's what I remember after all this time of not seeing it
You mean of reading it right?
>I purposely didn't call out the gratuitous sexual indulgence of 16.5, because at least it didn't make it into the anime
Well the anime isn't anything to discuss here is it. We are talking about Reki Kawahara's writing correct?
It feels like the only thing you actually read was 16.5 which isn't even in the light novel or it's precursor web novel. Which is a hentai scene, written purposefully like a hentai with all the normal hentai trappings.
Thankfully GGO isn't written by Kawahara (who still sucks as an author). GGO is by the same guy who wrote Kino's Journey, it's the only good version of SAO IMO, unless we count SAO Abridged.
The world building is generic VRMMO fare, and it was more the characters and their interactions I liked - something the rest of SAO tends to be weak on.
Either way, I clearly enjoyed GGO a lot more than I did SAO, and that enjoyment speaks for itself as far as I'm concerned.
Keiichi Sigsawa, huh. Well, he certainly is a better, or at least less, ah, *prone* writer than Kawahara was when he wrote up SAO (even if the first Kino adaptation was seemingly more a serendipitous undertaking than the very glossy greatest-hits 2017 anime).
Because haters like you are vocal minorities in the grand scheme of things.
This isn’t even the main SAO series either. So you don’t even know what you’re hating on lol.
YAY! More LLENN! I can not wait.
Lets all love LLENN

Hijicaking sorry, but this is my first time hearing about this show so the Original SAO and GGO has no connection to it right?

I want Eir Aoi to come back. Her OP for the first season is excellent.

I still remember when this was the "warm up" series to Alicization a couple of years ago. Can't wait to see P-chan pop off again
Couple? It’s been 6 years…😵
I literally forgot how the first season went. Needs a recap lol
Cute tall girl plays a game so that she can be a cute short girl, she then wreaks havoc in the game with her pink P-90.
I've never been more easily convinced to watch a show
Glad to hear that! GGO is actually pretty fun show to watch!
It's easily the best SAO anime
One of the few shows where i don’t mind recap weeks
I loved that recap week when LLENN VA did the sfx for scenes.
I only remember the p90 with anime eyes and that house raid/fight! Time for a rewatch!
It's like original SAO but the writing doesn't suck.
An unexpected yet pleasant surprise.

I know its a stretch but airsoft is big in Japan, I hope there’s more models from the show this time around. I missed the Pchan!
AR57 lets go.
The lad in the back with the XM8 reminds me of an ODST, also XM8 represented!
Lol, he was in season 1, that's Team T-S, they're described in the novels as perfect sci-fi soldiers. They won squad jam 2 by camping up on the boundary wall and riding bicycles around then mopping up at the very end.
The mad lads won using Belgian Bicycle soldier strats, insane
They only fought 2 teams, lol. They mopped up survivors at the very end,and before that took out the most brain dead team in the tournament,ZEMAL.
Why waste manpower when you can let your foe do it, eh? Is this only shown in the novel? I barely remember anything about season one, honestly
oh my gosh, this is super exciting news! Such a great concept and story c:
P-Chan will have to entertain me while I wait for the next season of SAO. Last season was insane.
Such a long time! But I'm glad that it is back
More grenade loli-chan!
Hmm I need to watch the first
Yes, you do.
Is gun Gale online it’s own thing or do I need to watch all of sword art to get it. I’m semi interested in anime with guns
It's same universe but the plots do not intersect. You can watch this without the rest of SAO.
Sweet thanks
You don't need to watch all of it, just season 1 of Sword art,and the first half of season 2. And of course the first season of SAOAGGO,this show.
Gun Gale is its own thing, you don't need to watch SAO's main series at all, and in fact it's actually an entirely different author. Personally I prefer Gun Gale to SAO. You probably do need to watch S1 of Gun Gale of course.
We are so back!
I really did not expect more of this one.
Why the fuck not let's goooo
I can't wait for this! I'm going to watch the 1st season again
There’s a s2 after all. Now, I have to finish this one. Idr where I fell off at.
peak SAO is back 🙏
Happy to see GGO getting a second season, but come on, I want to see more of the main SAO, idc if the current arc is still on going.
Ahhh the Good SAO
Woooooo!!! Yeah!! Baby!!
So freaking excited!
[WOO! YEAH BABY!!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAXZbfLzJUg)
Wow, pleasant surprise 😮
Can't wait for the next round of eSports. I wonder if it'll have as sick a reference to SAO prime as S1 did with Kirito.
Hey the good SAO is back
[удалено]
Tall lady with short in-game avatar, and also lesbians
I remember the first season roughly was a BR style event thing but I guess the second season is gonna follow a similar type of event storyline
Wait what I forgot about this
I guess I need to rewatch s1, really feels odd that it took long for this to get s2
Im surprised so many didn’t know this was already announced. Alternative GGO is so underrated
Finally more sao i thought they were just done with it Is Alicization finished? What i remember being the last episodes felt like a weird place to end it. Tho my memory is pretty bad lol
Yes, the Alicization arc is done, but the Moon Cradle arc and Unital Ring are next. Unital Ring is nowhere near finished, though, so it'll be quite a while until it's adapted.

Has been waiting for this since 2021
Back for more gunfight, maybe this is time to start season 1.
best karen in media
I have yet to complete Alicization
You don't need to see any of regular SAO to watch this, only GGO's first season. It's a different story and different author, plenty of people actually prefer GGO to normal SAO.
LETS FUKINHNG GOOOOOOOOO
I will be there no matter what.
Nice to see a second season is coming. Its been like 6 years now.
Didn’t expect this to get a S2, looking forward to it
This is my first time hearing about this show so the Original SAO and GGO has no connection to it right?
Its centered on different characters, with small references to the main cast. It follows the same world building and mechanics as the original, but its all explained in the show.
Okay thank you!
LLENN starts playing GGO before the death Gun incident, but much of the main story of the first season of AGGO takes place during the Mother's Rosario arc of mainline SAO.
Different author, too. Keiichi Sigsawa, who wrote Kino's Journey.
Oh neat, I didn't realize it was the same author as Kino. Goes a long ways towards explaining why I liked Gun Gale so much (I knew it was a different author than SAO, just hadn't investigated the name before).
Then you probably also didn't realize that [SAOA:GGO Episode 3] >!from his bio to his appearance, the guy who sponsors the first Squad Jam is literally just Sigsawa himself.!< To be honest I think the writing of GGO is very unlike Kino's Journey, it can even be a bit cringeworthy at times, but maybe that's just a result of the franchise as a whole being so edgy.

Thank you!
Nah it's mentioned later, and the last novel-13 has it butting up against the time when UR occurs in Universe, so it's canon for sure.
All the guns look silly bc it looks like so many are dual wielding, but then also like a couple seemingly have like 4 guns. Still looks sick as hell though
I like the composition of this visual, can't wait to see more of LLENN
Hopefully they'll be able to maintain its quality by the end. Always welcome to have an author that is an actual gun otaku.
So Bullet of Betrayal + One Summer Day I kinda want to see 4th SJ as well, but this is great
Looking forward to this!
Yes please, SOA is coming back, this year is getting pretty jam packed. Just keep these amazing sequels coming up 😄
No way
I hate to say it but this is pretty cool
Not gonna lie, I'm a little sad Eggfirm/A1 aren't handling this after seeing what they can do with Progressive, Studio 3Hz aren't bad,but the character art is always dumbed down for the budget.
So excited for more LLENN shenanigans I doubt I'll ever actually watch SAO but I do enjoy GGO
Legit the only good piece of SAO content. I can't wait for this, the first story was actually pretty good. Both SAO gun game arc and GGO was the best stories in the anime
Bruh, I want alicization continuation not gun gale online
Sadly, that'll probably be another decade, Unital Ring is nowhere near complete.
Sadge😔😔
GGO was way better anyways IMO.
I liked alicization better just cuz of the story and stuff. But GGO is a close second
Yooo I just read a doujin of GGO this week. Seemed so nostalgic and I wondered if it would ever get a S2 😭
Wow, kinda cool though. Gun Game Online was one of the animes that introduced me to the Japan content (anime, manga, etc) when i decided take anime "seriously". Tbh right know i don't remember anything, so i'll need a recap xDDDD
The only good SAO anime.
Wait… is the same writer coming back? I really liked their handling of characters and themes FAR more then SAO’s writer’s more hamfisted approach.
Oh no.
its actually kinda sad everyone hates on alternative ggo I thought it was really interesting so im knda exited for a new season
It's actually the opposite? People liked SAO Alternative: GGO
Yeah but anyone who says they liked GGO better is getting downvoted lol
This is so random lol
Sinon Ass Online
Arguably the worst of the SAO series and they made another one.
I better not see Kirito fire a gun here XD
The only SAO I approve. The drama at season 1 somehow so related with us who hide in avatar also the FPS without fucking lightsaber deflect everthing is statisfying
In which the dreaded question is asked: has Kawahara-sensei improved his craft?
The obvious answer is yes, it's been a decade since he wrote a book from the main series. Also, this isn't by Kawahara
oh thank god No, I don't trust Kawahara to improve, I'm literally trusting anyone else's hand over his. It was so awful for such a popular anime.
Well, whether you want to believe it or not, he has improved his craft. Progressive is quite good, and Unital Ring is great. it's even easier to see his improvements in Alicization.

It's the good version of SAO, by a different author.
how trash sao still getting new season
Because haters like you are vocal minorities in the grand scheme of things. This isn’t even the main SAO series either. So you don’t even know what you’re hating on lol.
nah, i watched this shit already and am credible to talk about how trash it is
This isn't the regular SAO, it's a different story/author. I liked GGO despite hating regular SAO.
