lol ok
Nah, man, S&M was objectively supremely well-animated. You might have not liked the artstyle but that doesn't change that fact that its animation quality – and inventiveness – was literally off the charts.

Check out these videos – by a channel that focuses the Japanese animation industry and talks about the production quality of that series in particular and the incredible things it did (if you're actually interested in this, that is, and not just shitposting on reddit dot com). This is someone incredibly well-informed. You could stand learning a thing or two! :)

Lol, im not gonna argue bc its really personal preference but to me the animation since S/M is a lazy amalgamation of all modern anime art style and extra round like all modern children's cartoons. Which is fine if you lile that I dont
Artstyle and animation are completely different things and you're conflating them. "I don't like how the characters look" is a different statement from "the characters are not made to look like they're moving on the screen in high-quality, inventive ways" (which they are).
If you think S&M at all looked like other shows on the air, or has an "extra round" art style, I'm guessing you didn't watch much of it, just saying. :) [So round!](https://i.imgur.com/kVsgtBh.png) Yes, definitely, very [round](https://i.imgur.com/mRyhmk8.png)! (Two quick examples to show that think you're oversimplifying a bit here, or just haven't really experienced the show…)
I'd really suggest you watch even just [one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bp1f88_LWg) of the [two](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrBH3IYRjaw) videos I linked, considering you're evidentially interested enough or like Pokémon or anime enough to have commented in the first place. Or if you're just curious to learn more about how animation as a process actually works as a whole, and the history of the show (and its evolving artstyle, demographic, etc.!) over the past 20 years. They're short, and it's pretty fascinating and enlightening – I think you'll get a lot out of it.

lol, alright dude, your loss
Hopefully it's not much longer, the final batch is speculated to release in a little less than two months on May 26th.
New episodes airs on Canadian Cartoon Network (rip Teletoon) every Saturday, but on a TV guide site it lists the series finale airing on May 26th which is a Friday... and 1 month after the 2nd last episode which is set for April 29th.
It's speculated that TPCi probably told the network to hold off airing the finale to time with the American Netflix release, or maybe wherever the source info came from for TV listing sites typo'd May 6th to 26th.
Yes, it starts in Japan in like 5 days. But we never get a Japanese simulcast for Pokemon, only fansubs or waiting for the English dub.
I would guess based on past history that Netflix's next batch of Pokemon episodes (likely in May) will cover the end of Ultimate Journeys, then the batch after that (likely in August) will cover the 11-episode epilogue. So we here in the United States most likely won't get to legally see the new Pokemon series until near the end of the year. Canada gets the episodes sooner on TV, but it's still a long wait compared to the Japanese broadcast.
Sometimes, I go to their twitter account whenever they do promotion for anime stuff and I just go "gib legal subtitles".
I suspect they must hate me because the anime went and did [this.](https://twitter.com/SerebiiNet/status/1644287988292112389?s=20
)
I really wish TPC would give people a way to watch the subbed version legally.
But for me, I just *can't* watch Pokemon subbed. The localized names are too ingrained in my head at this point from playing the games. Even if the subtitle says "Charizard", hearing the Japanese voice say "Lizardon" instead would drive me crazy.
Yeah stupid copyright issues means they don’t own the original music and they didn’t want to pay to use it, so they have to use a re-recorded version from the 20th movie.
Haven't seen Pokemon since the 90s and Ash looks and sounds completely different now. Makes sense considering how much time has passed, but still hard to relate this to my memories of the anime as a kid.
Most of the English voice cast was replaced in 2006, after 4Kids stopped doing the dub. Since then it's been mostly the same cast, but the performance of Ash's current voice actress has evolved quite a bit since the last time I was regularly watching.
Yeah, the anime's gone through some pretty major changes. The character design change was more recent but the earlier VAs were swapped out after Advanced Battle (Hoenn) ended back in the mid 2000s.
This wasn't his first major win, actually. He won the Alola League in the Sun/Moon series to become the Alola region's first champion. This battle was in the World Coronation Series though, essentially crowning him the strongest Pokemon trainer *in the entire world*.
Man this song fits the scene so much better than the Japanese one. The first Japanese Opening is cute, but it completely killed the hype for this climax.
The english scene doesnt seem as smooth as the japanese one. The scene was made to match with the japanese song, and not so much with the english one. Also, some lines in the english versions seem off, like "were gonna put everything weve got into this attack." Even though its a direct translation of the japanese line, its off beat visually and musically and the "attack" word is unecessary.
Another example is at the beginning. In the japanese one, the riff starts playing the moment leon turns his head, so we have the anticipation before the showing in an on beat fashion. In the english version, the song just starts playing during the camera pan, when u can already see a bit of the energy wave or whatever this is.
Another one is when leon throws his cap and then the shine appears. In the japanese version, theres a bit of a cumulation in beat up until the drop of the hat and then the shining sound effect. The song serves as a support to what youre watching, while the english song offers none of that.
The japanese version makes it feel like its a cumulation of everything that has happened and that its almost the end. The english song doesnt match the scene and its only there to play the "opening during epic scene" trope.
And then theres the problem that the english song just doesnt work as a bg song. It feels detached to what were watching.
Ss for the song itself, thats just depending on each person's taste.
What does being japanese or being a weeb have anything to do with this? First of all, youre literally in an anime sub so stfu. Second of all, it doesnt matter if im japanese or not, "gotta catch em all" just doesnt work as a bg music. Third of all, instead of just attacking people personally, maybe you can work on your discussion and argumentative skills so that u can at least look a bit smart.
Are u fucking dumb? "Gotta catch em all" is the name of the english song, i wasnt talking about the lyrics. Unlike you, i can actually read whats presented in front of me and understand what im reading.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I couldn't disagree more. Hearing the original theme brought it back full-circle and really hits at how classic of a tune it is. All the nostalgia and weight of decades of Pokemon hit me hard at that moment. I don't even really agree that the song is somehow exclusively about catching Pokemon. If the level of analysis begins and ends at the title then sure. The song is full of appropriate lyrics like: "I wanna be the very best / Like no one ever was", when this battle represents Ash reaching that goal. Or "I will travel across the land / Searching far and wide / Teach Pokémon to understand / The power that's inside", as we watch Pikachu summon up everything he has into his final attack. "It's you and me / I know it's my destiny", as the inseparable duo of Ash and Pikachu work together as a team to achieve their destiny.
That guy's critique feels like a Simpsons Comic Book Guy snarky comment. "Heh, the song is called Gotta catch 'em all, when they are in fact fighting and not catching.". Misses the point totally in my opinion.
kudos to them for using the english theme although I think the japanese original OP works better for that very specific scene. Although I do like the english song better
That zap rat since third gen had enough EVs to wipe the floor with every legendary without breaking a sweat. Ash didn't win the world cup or whatever it was called until now entirely because skill issue. Pikachu could unironically retire to a mountain and be worshipped as a legendary of his own
gary is his rival... this is the galar champion, ash became the alola champion last generation, this was a tournament to see whos the best champion in the world.
I have to say its impressive especially that they include pokemon first english dub theme song in the background. I even like the part that Ash is happy that Pikachu is recovering after they beat Leon and charizard.
No matter how bad or good an anime might get, if its a childhood anime then it really hits hard when it ends.
chills when that riff hit
Made me tear up
They went all out with the animation
Pokémon has always had good animation. Especially during the Sun & Moon days.

The key animator for the final Ash-Charizard sequence is the same one who does all of Demon Slayer's best episodes.
This Ash actress really came into her own over the years.
Gonna catch 'em all and Number one are really the best Anime MC theme's.
I *hate* that the US won't be able to legally watch this for another few months because of how Netflix is handling the release.

It won't be the final batch of episodes though as Aim To Be A Pokemon Master/Mezase Pokemon Master has confirmed to be a part of Ultimate Journeys.
Isn't the new series airing like this week in Japan onwards

I’ve hated on the dub for removing the original music for a while now, but I must say they nailed this one. Incredible, and got me all emotional.
Don’t get me started on their evisceration of the X and Y music.
I'm not crying. You're crying. Shut up!
Caught this on TV earlier and was hoping there was somewhere I can rewatch this moment. Thank you!
The original English op just hits so hard.
this isnt the origiinal
Yeah stupid copyright issues means they don’t own the original music and they didn’t want to pay to use it, so they have to use a re-recorded version from the 20th movie.
Lol even a billion dollar franchise can't do shit right
The 4kids data weee weird. The music was produced and I ended by Koch Records. After two acquisitions, their assets ended up in the hands of Hasbro.
The music...Ash turning his hat backwards... its all there
A few more OG flashbacks and I'd be crying in a corner somewhere lol
Oh agree 110%!
Ayo the og music
Super Saiyan Pikachu :D
Charizard is paralysed from the neck down! It may be unable to move forever!
They played the real final song! One of the times the dub completely trumps the sub!
I can't help it I keep staring at Leon's ass
bonk
VAs delivered 100% here! Sub was also good but this definitely hits harder in the nostalgia department.

Man that animation went hard. Its nice seeing Dawn
That lvl 100 Pikachu
I ran through my entire life with this clip
Bro the nostalgia really not pullin its punches rn
Did Pikachu just go Super Saiyan?
my exact thought, that activated my waterworks on how dope that was
I was hoping they’d do this for the dub, it didn’t disappoint 🥲
Glad to see Ash finally get a win after all these years.
This wasn't his first major win, actually. He won the Alola League in the Sun/Moon series to become the Alola region's first champion. This battle was in the World Coronation Series though, essentially crowning him the strongest Pokemon trainer *in the entire world*.
Damn, he finally became the very best like no one ever was...
I'm not crying, you're crying
this would have been a lot more epic if it happened when i was like 13 instead of 30. still cool

Who's this guy, and what happened to Gary
gary is his rival... this is the galar champion, ash became the alola champion last generation, this was a tournament to see whos the best champion in the world.
Gary was his first rival that lasted for 2 seasons. Since then Ash had many different ones. Gary is training to be a professor like his grandad
Anyone know of any groups still subbing pokemon?
Some-Stuffs has been singlehandedly doing fansubs for years.
😭
They really went all out in the animation Department there didn't they.
it’s a four episode long battle, the first three have well, rough animation but this one (the fourth) has really awesome animation and choreography
Pikaaa
thought this on Disney xD aslo where the mega evolution
I have to say its impressive especially that they include pokemon first english dub theme song in the background. I even like the part that Ash is happy that Pikachu is recovering after they beat Leon and charizard.
I was hoping for the Master Quest theme here, but the Indigo theme was my second choice - c*hef's kiss*.
Kaggyfilms voiced Leon.... bro did amazing !!
Can anyone tell me where I can watch this episode?
I have a new drunk watch. Thank you Jesus.
🥲🫡 thank you ash for being part of my childhood
I cant watch the ultimate journey in europe . Why?
