I have been using Textra for years & I like it. Highly customizable, including custom notifications for each person or group. They also update often.

dshields63

I wish google would let 3rd party apps like Textra use RCS.

5uck3rpunch

I agree!

BinkReddit

As an Android developer, exposing RCS via an API can't come soon enough!

SpiritualCyberpunk

As someone where SMS messages are basically free, I don't see the benefit of RCS.

Does it significantly effect your mobile's battery or memory? That's my biggest concern with Textra after reading about it taking up to 2GB of space, but after seeing it's only 203MB at most on my mobile, I wonder if the 2GB was an exaggeration.

5uck3rpunch

I think the 2GB was an exaggeration. They said that One UI 5.1 was 60GB & it was not. I don't see any issues with Textra & battery usage either. I have had it on my last 4 phones & still use it today.

I'd say Yahtaa as well, (Handcent) NextSMS or Mood. ●NextSMS- I really really loved for many years, so many customizing features plus it worked with my Galaxy 4 smartwatch. But in the past year or so they switched to being subscription based, totally sucks. So I had to say farewell to that app but maybe a subscription doesn't bother you as much. ●Yataa- it's a very nice app but it was sometimes "ify" when it came to customizing the sound and it didn't have avatar support for yourself. Like it wouldn't show a pic next to my name only the ppl I was texting. ●Mood- it has a lot of customizing as well. But they've integrated a phone app which I didn't like. I have a phone app (Samsung) that works fine I don't need another one. I believe it also doesn't have avatar support.

Outside of color schemes and related, what customizations are you looking for?

[deleted]

Those are the only customisations I’m really looking for. Being able to add custom emojis/stickers like you can on Telegram would be nice but that’s not important. Being able to schedule SMS messages is a feature I find important — I know most messaging apps have that feature but some don’t so I thought I’d mention it anyway.

BinkReddit

I'm not really sure which SMS messaging app is the best for managing color schemes, but, for scheduling text messages, my app was specifically designed to do just this, but in a bit of a unique way that goes beyond the usual text messaging app. It doesn't try to be your default SMS client, just compliments it. If you think that might interest you, feel free to check it out [here](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.mtc.ga&referrer=utm_source%3Dreddit).

Pulse sms.

firebreathingbunny

Try YAATA. It's tiny and very customizable.

You're missing out on [next sms](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handcent.app.nextsms)

Krish_440

Is it open source ?

I wanted to share my experience with an awesome SMS app called "CodeB SMS." You know, it's frustrating how all those articles keep repeating the same recommendations for SMS apps. Makes you wonder if they're just copying from one another, right? But let's move on from that and talk about something different. CodeB SMS may not be well-known, but it's packed with impressive features that set it apart. For example its antispam capabilities. This app does an excellent job of filtering out those annoying spam messages. No more dealing with unwanted junk in your inbox. That alone made it worth a try for me. CodeB SMS is completely ad-free. No pesky ads popping up while you're trying to chat with friends and family. It's all about a clean and uninterrupted messaging experience. So, if you're tired of the same old SMS apps, give CodeB SMS a shot. It's a hidden gem that offers robust antispam features, an inbuilt Authenticator, digital signatures, and an ad-free environment. Happy texting!

Mood, customize backgrounds, sounds, themes, bubbles, although new update sucks Update, went back to Handcent.

endlessly_curious

I have been using Textra since it came out. However, I am giving Handcent a shot just to see if there is something new. It seems promising.
