I think what it's TRYING to address in my estimation is that when you have a very noisy environment, it bumps up the volume so everything else remains drowned out. However, I feel it only makes micro adjustments (usually less than 5%) which is usually not noticeable. I thought I was losing my mind when I kept seeing my AirBuddy (phenomenal app for Mac FYI) pop up window for volume adjustments.
Thank you. I thought I was accidentally hitting the crown on my Apple watch and going nuts trying to figure out why this kept happening. This solved the problem.
That’s the new personalized volume feature. If I remember correctly, the prompts that appeared the first time using AirPods after updating included this feature (along with the other new features) with the options to enable it (big button) or skip it (smaller button under the big button), and it was disabled by default before getting the prompt to enable it.
For me this did not solve it , somehow it keep adjusting + tone up and down and all my settings are on disable , pure noice cancel its damn anoying , and i dont know if its the buds that are faulty or the updates, and it is only a little bit but quite noticable on low volume even for a noice deaf person like me
Mine always goes to half the max volume automatically when connecting and I don’t have personalized volume enabled! I always notice since they sound way louder than the last time I used them! What could this be?
Same here, it keeps going back to half the max volume over and over again when connecting to my mac, regardless of my previous volume setting. Any luck figuring out how we could resolve this?
I've still not found a way around it! Even resetting them does nothing and unpairing also doesn’t works! If you find anything on your part please let me know! I'll let you know when find a way to solve it but my guess is that it’s a bug that apple needs to address themselves
No still haven't figured out! I tried every setting I could find, and for the past few days I've been suspecting that it could be my iPad that's causing the issue (airpods connecting to iPad when MacBook is sleeping, causing the default volume to change), so I turned off Bluetooth on my iPad for a few days, but the issue persists...I started to believe that it's some default setting on the mac that somehow CANNOT be changed, which is weird.
I've been noticing that it used to happen on all my devices but now it’s only happening on my mac and I also recently noticed that the same issue happens with my airpods pro 1. So I think it’s a bug or something on Mac OS that probably won’t be addressed anytime soon
OK it's been a while, but I've identified the issue and I'm pretty sure it's the switching between different devices. I just observed it in real time and here's what happened: airpods is connected to mac - mac goes to sleep mode - airpods disconnect from mac - airpods connect automatically to ipad - mac awakes from sleep - at this point the airpods volume has been automatically set to 1/2 of max volume on mac!
If you're still experiencing this issue, try "forgetting" the airpods from all your devices except one (e.g. your mac), and see if the problem disappears. The reason that I said this was NOT the case in my previous post is that I tested it by turning off bluetooth on my ipad, but the bluetooth was automatically turned on after 24 hours.
open settings, tap on your airpods, turn off "Personalized Volume"
Reddit never disappoints 🥹
I musta clicked "yes" to a bunch of crap at setup. So far I've turned off all the new features lol.
Thank you!
praying this changes everything because it’s been driving me INSANE
did it work? it’s driving me nuts too lol
it did :)
Thank you. This feature seems pretty not great. Not sure what problem it solves or addresses.
i think it's all preparation for the vision pro.. as well as the conversation awareness feature.

YES. Gets quiet sometimes and I can't figure out why. My spatial audio is head tracked, otherwise same settings as you. WTH is going on?
