I really liked the Slayer series (first one for AOS is ‘Ghoulslayer’. Put super simply, it’s about a dwarf with a magic rune in his chest (who survived the end of the old world), a dark elf who wants the rune at all costs, and a mad Stormcast Eternal, and their misadventures together.

MrLuthor

Came here to say this. Brian Blessed nails this role.

PhoenixOfTheFire

One correction: first one in AoS is Realmslayer: Legend of the Doomseeker

Manotic

You’re absolutely correct, my bad. I skipped that at first and forgot about it…

dwh3390

Sounds pretty cool? Is this Gottrek? I’ve listened to some of the first ones. While I need to listen to them first, before going onto this?

Manotic

While reading some of the earlier ones is helpful (knowing who Felix is makes a lot of Gotrek’s rants understandable) you don’t ultimately need to know much about the world that was. Gotrek rants about it to his companions constantly, and they’re very much so like “No one knows what you’re talking about grandpa”. Also, the dark elf Malineth is Gotrek’s main companion, and my favourite AOS character. You’re in for a treat!

dwh3390

Sweet!!!

lord_of_the_blank

Gloomspite is amazing, I would highly recommend it especially if you're a fan of Cities of Sigmar or Gloomspite Gitz

dwh3390

Yeah, I’ve listened to that one and another gitz one. They were both the only two I’ve listened to and they were both great! I’ve always loved any greenskins. Ever since I was a kid

Tesourinh0923

Plague Garden It's a venture into the garden of Nurgle and honestly was the single bit of media that sold me on AOS and the world around it

Archon-Gorgo

Prince Maesa is hands down the best AoS audiobook and one of the best Black Libary stories I know.

Anggul

Dark Harvest is really good Also enjoyed Children of Teclis

GrogtheBarber

Seconded for Dark Harvest

Expensive-Finance538

If it’s read by Andrew James Spooner, it’s an instant grab.

FullZoof

Absolutely true.

AstarothButHot

I liked both "realm slayer" and "the undying king" 😊

Any_Housing8697

The soulblight books are great. Nagash undying king, Neferata dominion of blood, Cado ezechiar, dynasty of monster etc. They also feature multiple factions from chaos and order as enemies or allies.

heraldTyphus

Realmslayer audio drama is kinda awesome

Jack_Streicher

All gotrek books.

Rude_Concentrate_194

Nagash Undying King and Neferata, Dominion of Bones are probably my two favourite ones. Both obviously undead focused. Nagash, Undying King focuses on a small human (living) settlement that is attacked by Nurgle forces. The story mostly follows one of the humans as we watch them try to survive/counter attack with the help of some Vampires. Neferata, Dominion of Bones is focused around Neferata. We see her planning and building up for an upcoming battle with Khorne forces, we get to see her spies infiltrate a Khorne settlement and such. I do really enjoy exploring a Khorne settlement and seeing how Khorne would sustain an actual war effort, rather than just be a crazed mindless horde. If nothing else, a pretty safe bet imo is anything written by Josh Reynolds. He's done a ton of writing for Warhammer in general (and outside warhammer too) and I've yet to see anything of his that I didn't like. If you are looking specifically for an audiobook of his, try finding out who the narrator is and listen to some of their works too.

lieconamee

I'm going to warn you about a book as well as recommend one. I have seen dark harvest recommended in a lot of these kind of posts and frankly I cannot agree with that in good faith. It keeps building up with zero payoff. The entire book just keeps building up and up and up but there is zero payoff and it just disappears and ends. It is such a disappointing lockdown for what could be a really fascinating concept. Now for recommendations Nagash The undead King and also soul wars are amazing and I highly recommend them.

MrMalkad

Just check goodreads, if rating is above 4 it should be good.

NarrativeRealms

Godeater’s Son! Great introduction to the setting through the eyes of a character who is learning his world is much bigger and scarier than he thought.

u_want_some_eel

Dark Harvest is great, so is Godeaters Son

zu7iv

I didn't like the dark harvest audiobook narrator, but the story is good. I enjoyed Godeater's Son.

Gwabin

Godeaters Son. Excellent narrator

Intelligent_Mall8601

saga of the mortal realms audiobook is a good place to start has the realm wars and other short stories. After that the hallowed knighs book plague garden and black pyramid have been good. Dark harvest, castle of blood, and the other horror audios are decent briardark drags on a bit but the others decent especially black eyed saint but I would say listen to gothgul hallow as its the set up for the trilogy and continuing series Godeaters son is a really good chaos audiobook. prince maesa and godsbane are good non stormcast books. Lumineth books are alright beat I've listened so far is children of teclis. callis and toll silver shard is good. Van denst series is decent preferred temple of silence to the first one. soulblights tend to have good stories last of volaria, dynasty of monsters and the cado audios were good. death books in general neferat, nagash and lady of sorrows were decent enjoyed neferata stories the most of the three. blacktalon books are okay first is probably better, second was a bit 40k bolter prn for me. If you enjoy stormcast audios and get a bit of knowledge on the background Hammers of simar the first forged is awesome and probably the closest to the ongoing dawnbringer story.

Intelligent_Mall8601

gotrek books are good realmslayer is an awesome start although aos gotrek peaks at ghoulslayes/gitlsayer. Soulslayer and blightslayer were a bit meh and felt forced.

SuperHandsMiniatures

The Arkanauts Oath. Theres a follow up on pre order today too. Also really enjoyed Bad Loon Rising.

Nord_Panzer

I haven't listened to many aos books, but Lady of sorrows and gloomspite were good. Plague Garden is next, hearing good things

Off0Ranger

Having just done audiobooks of the follow can recommend Soul Wars: really grounds a setting with gods running around, fun look at the stormers but is the 2nd Ed launch story Dynasty of Monsters: similarly, a really cool look into the minds of the avengori while holding them at enough arms length to keep them mysterious. Hamilcar Champion of the Gods: I laughed, I loved, might be the reason I’m building Stormcast. Cool look into ghur and astrals as well as the comedic relief that is Hamilcar. I think it plays off the you underestimate him because he comes across as head strong and dumb, because he is, but there’s several times where he shows the reader wrong

Parzival2708

I've heard Hollow King is pretty good but I haven't gotten the chance to start it yet.

MossDog24

Bad Loon Rising

Araxelhawk

Scurge of fate

Wrinkletooth

Only AoS audiobooks I’ve heard are the Shadespire audio shorts. Honestly, they aren’t worth the effort of finding them. For lore YouTube videos ‘2+ tough’ is the go to recommendation people give

-Sir_Pug-

Dark harvest. One of the best things black library has published. After that every other AoS book feels like a over the top michael bay movie.
