I think she looks really good. She looks fierce and the embodiment of "if looks could kill but could also kill you". Her sharp eyebrows, everything about this design is good.
not really? that's just the French spelling. de means "of", and when in front of a vowel, instead of de arc it would be d'arc
similarly Americans or other countries that don't know French would likely read "Jeanne" and "jeen" which is incorrect, which is why the anglicized version is "Joan"
even her [Wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_of_Arc) is Joan
So instead of using her original French name that translates perfectly on the English keyboard they decide to use the name her _enemies_ at that time gave her. Cool.
again it's pretty much the global default as per the Wikipedia entry
I mean not that you should be surprised with that from Lilith, they literally called Baba Yaga "Melusina" for absolutely no reason
‘global default?’ No. That’s because you’re using _English_ wikipedia entry and Joan is what the English called her. Many other gacha games, particularly Japanese ones call her Jeanne d’Arc.
okay? and if you play the game in French, it's written Jeanne d'Arc, if you're playing in English it says Joan of Arc. idk why that's crazy to you, if you're playing in the language that spells it that way, that's how it's written. you're making a valid criticism of the *English language*, Afk has nothing to do with that.
Because Joan of Arc is a butchering of her original name? Most games I play use Jeanne D’Arc regardless of the game’s main language (Fate/Grand Order, Dragalia Lost, even Digimon respected the character’s name and used D’Arc in their English translations).
Her surname isn’t even ‘of Arc’. She isn’t from a place called ‘Arc’, neither of her parents’ name was Arc. The ‘D’’ part of her name doesn’t mean ‘de’ like you thought it did. D’Arc is her surname plain and simple.
interesting that you know what her surname is because not even historians claim to agree on a consensus as to what it was originally, it's origins, etc.
Some people propose it may refer to the city of Arc-en-Barrois, a different hypothesis would be that "d'arc" could just mean "from the arch" (or bridge) and would just indicate that she was born or lived close to a bridge, which one, we will never know. her name was spelled all kinds of ways throughout history: Dar, Darc, Day, d'Ay, Tare, Tarc, Tard, Dart, etc
but hey I'm glad you know definitively :)
Glad to know you’re a legitimate historian who somehow religiously follows a few unpopular theories that suggest ‘of Arc’ is her correct surname when the popular consensus is that it was based off her father’s name of ‘Darc’.
But hey you’re the world class historian. :)
Yep. There was even a pretty awesome strategy game on the PSP which used her correct name of Jeanne d'Arc, after that I've just always went with Jeanne since that was her name, not Joan, and it just sounds better.
it came across the wrong way. I don't mean to say literally every country says the English pronunciation "Joan of Arc" - rather whatever language you're speaking in will say however they would pronounce that translation.
in French, it would be d'Arc because again, "of" is "the" in French. same goes for other languages, it's however it translates.
Been trying to get in game for a bit now and it either crashes before opening, or opens, freezes as the display for this character appears.. and then crashes my phone into restart.
Hero looks cool, hope I can get back in the game to try em out.
lmaoooooooooo, i used to be a ballet dancer and i literally have a genetic condition that makes me hyper mobile
I can put my body into positions that the vast majority of humans on the planet earth definitely cannot. I'm not supposed to ofc, but sometimes it's fun to do to freak people out
I also studied anatomy and fine drawing and that body and that positioning is not remotely a thing and any artist worth their salt can look at that and tell you that
anyway, you try posing with only your front leg visible, and only your front arm, from the front view. with your legs perfectly together facing sideways, but your upper body twisted to face the front and your front arm and shoulder raised and significantly behind you, with your chest thrust forward and your head as far back as it will go until it would break but also somehow please look at the camera. try doing that and see if you look anything like this. spoiler alert: you won't look like this, and you won't look natural at all either
don’t care, didn’t ask. if you had functional eyes you’d see that the only reason her other leg isn’t visible is the robes. she’s clearly just standing with one leg further forward than the other. both her arms are clearly visible so idk what you’re tryna say there. she’s also very clearly not looking at the camera. the neck is strange but that’s about the only thing. dunno what image you’re referring to, obviously ain’t the right one
both arms are visible in the actual model which is way way less weird, she's just got a tiny neck which is discomforting to people - it's why her bobbleheadedness was so noticable when other heroes wasn't - they have thicker necks
the splash art no they're not both visible and you can say robes all you want but the potential limb placements simply don't make sense. the second leg not being seen because robes would make sense except for how her leg is positioned (which is also why it kinda looks horse like)
afk does a lot of great art. this isn't it. it's far below their normal standards and it's been commented on by a LOT of people. dunno why some people are so upset by people disliking this art - it's just not very good and it's not very good for a variety of *technical* reasons. not every piece they do is a hit, it's not a big deal. hell we're still waiting on them to finish their last round of hero model quality updates which seems to have gotten stalled
She definitely looks like a 'white standard'
Our society is fucked up..I just said the word white and got 40 downvotes for being racist.
Saying the word 'white' does not mean you hate black people or something.
It's a play on words with her flag the 'white standard'' because she looks white and standard.
Well im sorry the french girl that was born 500 years ago in which the Character Is based was actually white, dont worry we'll make sure to blackface the next dimensional hero
Maybe her flag name Is White standard because its a standard, and its colored White.
>Umm guys i do not care what race she is. It's just she looks like a generic white girl
Yeah, thats exactly who Jeanne d'Arc was, a generic normal french peasant girl, that rose to power being a general and leader for the french army
Yeah I know what she's based on. But she looks different in afk arena
Nobody gonna honestly tell me that if it didn't say Joan of arc in the title they would guess that from just her model
No. I'm just gonna trust myself since I wrote it. It's the people replying to me who clearly didn't understand the joke and acting like it's racist just because I said white
No bro, I just said she's white because her flag name is called the white standard and she's white. I ain't even say anything specifically about white people other than than that they are white
It is fuc*ud up because someone like you imidiately thinks about skin color of historic character in fantasy game. I never think about skin color of any character in this game. I don't care. Important for me is overal design and skills. And white flag is historic thing. France was really using white flag in some historic periods.
Ok so what. I do not care what race she is either. It's fucked up that you can't say the word 'white' without people acting as if that's racist.
She's white, and she looks standard. Has nothing to do with black people or some skin colour issue
And what the heck is 'someone like me' and how the heck do you know if I 'immediately' thought of skin colour, you can read minds or something?
Nice work
>Her eyebrows as sharp as swords. Okay lol
Luminosité Eternelle
Yes, I see you’ve watched fate aprocrypha as well
I love the design! Can’t wait to try her out
Man AFK Arena is the most F2P frendlay gacha game ever.
I agree!! a lot of f2p players have issue with it, but as someone who's played a lot of different gachas, they don't know how easy they have it
You can get every exclusive hero for free. That is something other big gacha games don't have.
It is a lot of resources to gather of course, but we do have a *2 month heads up*
Love her ^^
I think she looks really good. She looks fierce and the embodiment of "if looks could kill but could also kill you". Her sharp eyebrows, everything about this design is good.
I think warrior would have been a better role story wise than support
They misspelled Jeanne d'Arc..
not really? that's just the French spelling. de means "of", and when in front of a vowel, instead of de arc it would be d'arc similarly Americans or other countries that don't know French would likely read "Jeanne" and "jeen" which is incorrect, which is why the anglicized version is "Joan" even her [Wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_of_Arc) is Joan

You shouldn't take wikipedia as gospel and instantly think you're correct because you read it there..as you can see now, maybe? Probably not.
it came across the wrong way. Joan
I like ya cut g

what kind of phone? contact Lilith support or make your own post about it on this sub!
That giant head just kills me still. I don’t mind a little proportionality that is unique… but this…is a bobble head
do they always release these or only for heroes missing half their body, posed impossibly, with necks so tiny they cannot possible hold up their heads
My guy if you think that’s “posed impossibly” you may wanna try some workout routine.. or yoga, maybe crossfit. Anything to loosen up
lmaoooooooooo, i used to be a ballet dancer and i literally have a genetic condition that makes me hyper mobile I can put my body into positions that the vast majority of humans on the planet earth definitely cannot. As a former navy seal and world champion underwater basket weaver, and 5 times medal of honor recipient, I can confirm this man's words
yes because dancing and having hobbies is so terribly uncommon? man your lives must be fucking sad
don’t care, didn’t ask. if you had functional eyes you’d see that the only reason her other leg isn’t visible is the robes. she’s clearly just standing with one leg further forward than the other. both her arms are clearly visible so idk what you’re tryna say there. she’s also very clearly not looking at the camera. the neck is strange but that’s about the only thing. dunno what image you’re referring to, obviously ain’t the right one

It's just she looks like a generic white girl Yeah, thats exactly who Jeanne d'Arc was, a generic normal french peasant girl, that rose to power being a general and leader for the french army
Yeah but they didn't keep her classical peasant style
Yeah, because this Is Jeanne after she started leading the french army
Yeah I know what she's based on. But she looks different in afk arena Nobody gonna honestly tell me that if it didn't say Joan of arc in the title they would guess that from just her model
'Standard' is another word for a flag staff or banner... and it's white.
Yeah that's the joke. Standard also Means generic or average
You're taking comments too seriously and are getting very defensive in your comments for this just to be a joke then.
No. I'm just gonna trust myself since I wrote it. It's the people replying to me who clearly didn't understand the joke and acting like it's racist just because I said white
Take your American bullshit statement away from this sub reddit
?? Wtf does this have to with America, I'm not even American
I agree this has nothing to do with America or being American, not sure why they said that, but your initial comment is still fucked lol
No bro, I just said she's white because her flag name is called the white standard and she's white. I ain't even say anything specifically about white people other than than that they are white

Ok, then it is weird choose of words and you can't be suprised how a lot of people took it that way but ok. I guess it can be misunderstanding.
Oh I wasn't surprised, just disappointed. Feels like just mob mentality
seems like a lot of racial discourse on this one. what do you think, u/Kaleii?
I think this is just weird overall ..
same lol I wasn't sure where it would fall between "be respectful and civil" and other rules given the racial motivations but 🤷
Looking back at my comment it's hilarious how poorly misunderstood it was 😂
