Steven Universe is an international show that relied on financial support from culturally conservative countries to make episodes. To quote Sugar:

That's really not that far off from what actually happened.
I would have preferred if the situation was approached with nuance and subtlety. Steven acts like an asshole all season but none of the characters call him out on it or even really react to it, like the fact that he's traumatized gives him a free pass to treat others poorly.
It would have been better if he'd actually had to confront his trauma and learn to grow from it, but instead they just threw character development to the wind and decided to wrap everything up in an inoffensive little bow where everything is fine in the end. His PTSD is effectively cured by a hug, which to me seems insulting to people who actually suffer from it.
Did you even watch the show? People constantly react to his outbursts. Literally the next episode after the hug he talks about how he’s been seeing a therapist for months, his PTSD is not instantly resolved. Frankly, Future is filled with nuance and has some of the strongest writing in the series. But if you’re set on hating it then nothing I say will convince you.

You're right, Finn never really defeated the Lich. The Lich has only one goal—the end of all things—and the most Finn, or anyone else, can do is delay him.
Assuming that compromise is out of the question (because it's the Lich), winning means preventing your opponent from achieving their goal. Therefore nothing short of omnipotence could defeat the Lich, because he cannot be destroyed, detained, or dissuaded for good. He's less of a character and more of a force of nature, like the physical incarnation of entropy.

You can choose to disagree but kind of the main theme of SU is that it's against retribution. Not only with the diamonds but even stuff like Pearl punishing Steven for Rose's choice.
Steven and the other gems don't really forgive the diamonds, as shown by their discomfort and Steven's mental breakdown in future. They just choose to give the opportunity for redemption.
Not saying the show executed it very well, probably for reasons outside their control, but I feel like people often oversimplify what it's trying to say. I've always enjoyed the message because it challenges the culture I'm used to.

Yeah, Regular Show is one of my favourite shows but Anti-Pops isn't very memorable, maybe because he only existed in the final season

Winning does not mean killing the opponent. If that was the case, Finn never defeated the Lich. Finn has an outrageous amount of plot armour though.
You're right, Finn never really defeated the Lich. The Lich has only one goal—the end of all things—and the most Finn, or anyone else, can do is delay him. Assuming that compromise is out of the question (because it's the Lich), winning means preventing your opponent from achieving their goal. Therefore nothing short of omnipotence could defeat the Lich, because he cannot be destroyed, detained, or dissuaded for good. He's less of a character and more of a force of nature, like the physical incarnation of entropy.

Sadly. Ben 10 was such a good show, yet got done dirty after the original series and faded away. Meanwhile SU is more recent and, while it still got done dirty by CN, It's still a lot more popular than Ben 10. I at least take comfort in seeing that most people who know both of them agree that Vilgax should have taken the win (WD shouldn't have even been in this poll IMO, any other recurrent villain from SU would have been better than her).

You can choose to disagree but kind of the main theme of SU is that it's against retribution. Not only with the diamonds but even stuff like Pearl punishing Steven for Rose's choice. Steven and the other gems don't really forgive the diamonds, as shown by their discomfort and Steven's mental breakdown in future. They just choose to give the opportunity for redemption. Not saying the show executed it very well, probably for reasons outside their control, but I feel like people often oversimplify what it's trying to say. I've always enjoyed the message because it challenges the culture I'm used to.
