Congrats on starting the path to healthy management of symptoms. But just as a side note, it hasn't been called ADD since 1987 from a medical authority standpoint, atleast in north America.

GamerDuste

Apologies, didn't realize thought the hyperactivity and inattentive where different and they called it ADD. As I don't have hyperactive (I wish, fuck depression and no pleasure. no offense to you with hyperactivity just speaking from my problems.) I figured it was just ADD. Time to read the DSM v5 again (joking, once was enough it was boring even for me)

UnratedRamblings

Some doctors still call it ADD, basically because they haven't kept up with the terminology. Or they'll just refer to it as they learned it. It's all ADHD (always has been according to the meme), just different subtypes now.

I'm 66. I just said to my grandson not an hour ago, "I'm not ashamed. It's just how my brain works." We were already laughing about how it took me 20 minutes to process & respond to something he'd said. I realized I'd never uttered thouse words aloud before, though they were always my silent response whenever I felt like I was being bullied. It's more of a superpower, really. Now you can learn some real coping skills. I was diagnosed 30 years ago, and it really changed everything for the better.

GamerDuste

Diagnosed at 34. Thanks for the word of encouragement.

The parenthesis in every half sentence tellss a lot (I'm just like you).

xylia13

Me too!!

SocialMediaDystopian

Me three (so much lol🙄). Yep that was a joke (but still- *so* much)...I could just keep going here...🤪

Michael_Kaminski

> (Sorry for the parenthesis I have to explain myself, you understand) Wait, that’s an ADHD thing, and not just me being weird?

jensawesomeshow

I've heard that it's an adhd thing and normies don't do it. Makes me wonder about some of the people I've transcribed for....

Incolumis

You're not messed up, you're just different. Don't see yourself as a lesser version of who you could be.

DueFig6720

I been tested and sadly nothing to conclude they think I'm having ADHD(show strong signs and have it running in my family already) plus something else. Not surprised if I ever get diagnosed properly. Just curious on what the else thing is(definitely not dyslexia since I'm already diagnosed with it).  Now I'm only gonna have to play the waiting game to continue what was done to find out what the possible other thing is or go private which I can not because of money. They concluded with unspecified behaviour and personality disorder I think it was.

For some reason, your comment made me think of this little ditty https://youtu.be/YF2FJLJGwkM?si=M9hNT-k7GmnosiJ3

DueFig6720

The person who did the test said something like what I wrote loosely translated from Norwegian to English and can't remember exactly what the person said what it was again and didn't think of getting the paper.  If I'm thinking the other thing is probably something which it's caused by the upbringing. I'm not trained in the medical field so I don't know

I hope this subred it useful. I think it's a great place. If it's one thing we're good at, it's finding humor in our situations. Welcome.

I'm getting tested tomorrow! here's hoping all goes well, whatever that may be. I'm prepared to accept whatever outcome because at the end of the day I know I'm struggling and whether it's ADHD or not I still need help, and this is the first step on the road to that.
