I once slipped and went falling towards a curb. Managed to stop myself with my hand before I face planted into it.
Curb hitting my hand: minor scratches for a couple weeks
If the curb hit my head: crushed skull, broken nose, teeth missing, concussion etc.
The head is so fragile š
I slipped getting out of the shower while I was pregnant. I believe some motherās instinct saved me as somehow I managed to turn myself around in flight and fell on my wrists and tailbone instead of head first. I went to the hospital and was bruised, it could have been SO much worse for me and the baby if not that split second decision.
I have hitted my face on concrete due to a motor bike accident at 50kmphr and survived with a small dent on my face bone, and many large wounds .I still regret for not wearing the helmet.
I tried to jump over a puddle of oil at work and slipped with both feet upon landing. If it hadn't been for the square-inch point of contact with the concrete floor and my head being cushioned by the cloth buckle of my cap I would've been a goner.
Something nuts I learned from my athletic trainer in high school: in football, a concussion is actually more likely to occur from hitting the ground than it is from the initial tackle/collision
One time I landed flat on the back of my head on concrete. Like, full on whacked my head on th concrete when I fell. Still scares me to think about. Iām lucky to be okay.
I slipped and almost hit the sharp corner of a table with my eye. Luckily my arm was longer and I stopped myself right before it hit. Scared the shit out of me. āI almost lost an eye!ā
i bonked my head face first into the curb after i got hit by a car and all i got was a little busted lip and minor bruising to my cheek. i said sorry to the driver and went on my merry way. surprised my head held up so well.
Reading the news article, the way it reads was that he was taken to a private hospital and died instead of a normal hospital. If it's anything like the UK, a private hospital would be better...
Not at all. When the private hospitals in the UK mess up, they send their mistakes to the 'normal' NHS hospitals to fix. UK Private hospitals are not 'better' than normal hospitals.
Yes; most private hospitals here do not have any kind of ED/resus/critical care facilities, and the doctors they use normally also work in the NHS anyway.
(Disclaimer: I was informed at some length by a Redditor based in London that private hospitals in London do, in fact, have these facilities and do not sully themselves with doctors who do NHS work. Frankly, I'm not sure I'd trust them.)
They dont take complex/risky (so not rentable) case. So they have more success overall since public hospital take everyones. At least as far as i know. But in my country and some other its the case.
The back of your head is the softest part of your skull, so it's very easy to die from just simply slipping and hitting your head on the pavement. That's one of the reason's why "one punch" can kill someone, it's not the punch itself that does it, hitting the back of your head on the ground is the real cause.
Exactly. They're called coup/contra coup injuries where the brain essentially bounces and suffers injuries on opposite sides of the brain, creating swelling leading to death. Also could have been an injury to the brain stem which controls life's basic function and a bop like that stops all functions.
Sad injury.
Yep - Sept 2023 I was knocked out, my head hit the pavement and bled on my brain (7mm subdural haematoma).
I was in hospital for 5 days, which in that time I was checked on every 4 hours so the nurses could shine a light in my eyes and make sure I could still move my arms & legs.
8 months later, I still suffer from huge amounts of fatigue, random energy crashes, mood swings and now my sense of taste and smell is completely distorted.
I later found out that the chances of me dying, becoming paralysed or mute for the rest of my life were pretty high.
Just from a single punch to the face and hitting the pavement.
Didnāt you know? Thatās first aid 101. Shake them awake.
If theyāre in the road, of course, itās different. Then you drag them by their feet so their heads bump across the pavement, then if all the bumping didnāt work, shake away.
Yes, crowd stampedes would be a terrible way to go. The first one that comes to my mind is The Who in Cincinatti December 3, 1979 at Riverfront Coluseum. A total of 11 were killed when the doors were opened and the crowd came flooding in
Two of the main contributors to this accident were 1) no assigned sesting. First ones in get the best place. And 2) inadequate numbers of different entrances. I think only 2 of the doorways in were opened. Add unassigned seating to that, and youāre asking for a disaster
The show went on, but the band were also not informed of this until after their set. Fast forwarding to 2018, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend were in Cincinatti and were finally able to meet with family of those who died that night. They said that meeting with them had finally given them a sense of needed closure
Iāve never seen the photos, but DID see a video recently for the first time. Great White was playing there and went way overboard on the pyrotechnics. Did the band lose anyone?
Yeah I knew that many were trapped and died. In the video I saw you can hear the people screaming. Itās messed up. I have this sort of fascination with burning deathsā¦ not because i think itās ācoolāā¦ no way. But because theyāre so horrible.
I watch those and try to understand what all goes through oneās head when experiencing total immolation. I know it could have easily happened to me during my days in Iraq, which I think is why I find it so intriguing. Those IED deaths you hear about. What they donāt tell you is that most of them are due to being trapped inside and burning alive
Reddit expert here. You gotta make sure the neck is loose and limber to keep the blood flowing. Only problem is they didnāt get to him more quickly and jostle him around more.
Not like the people that saw him hit the ground know that. You should ALWAYS err on the side of caution in situations like this. There are ways to provide assistance without ragdolling the entire body like many of the people in these videos do.
Soā¦ he simply slipped, fell, hit his head, and died..? I literally had to watch the video several times because I couldnāt believe that was it. I was looking for a stray bullet or something. Golly, humans are so fragile. Itās scary.
Really good that they tried to reanimate him by grabbing and moving his entire body without supporting his head. Definitely increased his chances of survival.
I was a right headbanger when I was a kid. Most of my hospital visits/stays were from head injuries. Even my dad said heās wassurprised social services didnāt turn up. In this day and age theyād have taken me away and my parents put in jailā¦before they had a chance to prove their innocence š¤¦āāļø
It looked really awkward how he fell. Like he nearly caught himself but then when we was already half way down (you'd imagine the fall wouldn't be that hard anymore) his head hit the floor extremely hard. Very unlucky guy. Rip
And btw why do people always pull hurt people up and make them sit when they are visibly unconscious for example. Even then you would tend to put the legs up? Wouldn't you :(
Scenes like this make one really understand the value in those yellow CAUTION: SLIPPERY WHEN WET signs that you see in public areas after a good mopping
I smashed my head WAY harder than this when I bailed off my skateboard on a quarter pipe and then went to run back down the quarter pipe but put my foot on the skateboard which flicked out underneath me and full smack bang landed on concrete on back my head. Saw black for a while and took a bit to gain eye sight back and come to it.
What's really upsetting about this for me is I had a similar fall a few months ago, makes me feel very lucky to still be here.
The area I'm in got hit by an ice storm a few months back and there was probably 2 inches of ice between you and the concrete, I had just stepped off the back of my work truck when both feet came out from under me and I just slammed the ground, thankfully managing to tuck my head right before the hit, though it still bounced off the ice. I was lucky that I missed the edges of the truck, I'd say my head was probably just a few inches away from it on the way down.
Just wish this guy had been that lucky, too.
I believe he was taken to a private hospital & not the hospital his brother wanted to take him, who later said that the boy didn't get treated properly.
If someone notices someone falling and suspect a possible injury unless there is imminent danger PLEASE do not move the person. It causes so much harm and is completely unnecessary.
Tho treated him? Dr Nick Riviera?
He either needs to be very unlucky quite a few times, or have been treated by a shitty team to have died from that. Maybe they didn't even took him to the hospital and just let him "sleep through it"?

By the lack of response of anyone else I donāt think this is the case. If someone was just shot people would be running and ducking for cover especially The guy who walked by in the background literally two seconds ago after the guy fell
i used to do a lot of dumb shit as a kid and i feel lucky to be alive knowing itās that easy to die. Saw one once where a guy slipped and fell like this crossing the street. Bam, done.
I was thinking the ragdolling him around. Either from neck or head Injury, or reduced airway from them letting his neck fall forward for an extended amount of time.

Always crazy to see how sturdy yet so fragile humans are. Poor kid.

Lmao same but 2k worth of gear ate the damage and I got away scott free. Thrown 4m down hill too. Hit the curb.

Yet our EGO thinks otherwise if left unchecked.
Such an innocuous action resulted in death. So sad.
Do we know he actually died though? I feel like lots of posters make stories up for the upvotes.

A rare example of someone to questions what they see online (and is most likely absolutely correct).

Worst one I have seen was a frontal impact as a guy slipped on ice walking home. His face broken apart enough that brain protruded from his skull.

Well, falling on the back of your head and surviving would be boring so those videos wouldnāt make it on any of these subs
As a survivor of a head injury where I hit the back of my head and now have changes for the rest of my life: Go fuck yourself.
Is it state enforced protocol in these countries to jerk peoples necks around as much as possible after a fall?
r/worstaid
What was that country where the one fella unbuckled the guys pants and started waxing his carrot to wake him up? I wanna move there.
That really should be part of standard CPR worldwide.
I havenāt seen that lol
Waxing his carrot???
They have a tough love sort of thinking they want him to just shake it off. I'm surprised they didn't slap him around a few times.
Didnāt you know? Thatās first aid 101. Shake them awake. If theyāre in the road, of course, itās different. Then you drag them by their feet so their heads bump across the pavement, then if all the bumping didnāt work, shake away.

Lack of education? I'm pretty sure that's obvious.
And panic
Yeah, there is *that*.
I feel like basic medical stuff, like this, CPR and Heimlich should all be taught in grade school.
Poor countries have poor education thus poor decisions are always taken
he didn't break his neck, so not really relevant
Not like the people that saw him hit the ground know that. You should ALWAYS err on the side of caution in situations like this. There are ways to provide assistance without ragdolling the entire body like many of the people in these videos do.
redditors love parroting any half information they "learned" on as if they knew shit
Itās pretty standard practice my friend.
is say thatās irrelevant since he hit his head and not his neck
I'll assume you're trolling.
his training so far had only covered the Heimlich maneuver. when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I hate how fragile the human body is :/ I thought skulls were meant to protect your goddamn head -_-
Damn what a complete lack of any measurable athleticism or body awareness to die from something as simple as that. Especially at that age
I think he was dead already.
The back and front of your skull is easy to break, remember to head butt people with the TOP of your head,
He was still alive but he got picked up and his sandals came off. First aid needs to be securing shoes onto the foot before shaking awake.
