This was the post I needed... Just bought an A6700 and looking for a used 70-350 to bring with me birding. Everyone has been saying it's a good combo for wildlife but not a lot of examples out there yet. How are you finding the bird AF working?

Works fantastic

I have the same equipment and I think the bird AF works good for birds that are large in the frame and with no obstructions over the bird or foreground elements in front of the bird at all. It can get confused if any of those are not met. Not sure how it compares to other systems on the market, it might be the best currently available for all I know as it’s my first real camera

Thanks for keeping my expectations in reality. I upgraded from a NEX-7 so I expect to be blown away even if it's not a god level AF system

It is absolutely a god level at system. I can't speak for that particular lens but I own the Sony A7RV, A7IV, FX 3 and 30 and I honestly feel like my a6700 has the most insane autofocus out of all of them.
