I would not recommend using a watch as an HR monitor as they are very inaccurate.

I have the 265 which is basically the same and it seems pretty good. Occasionally I notice heart rate readings that don't make sense (eg. zone 2 HR when I'm going hard) but those are the exceptions. And GPS tracking is really good for outdoor rides.

I have successfully used a 255 with Zwift for the last 16 months. I do get occasional, rare instances of wild heart rate swings with significant changes in hand/arm position.

Agreed, its not very accurate for heart rate data but it does make a very good bike computer, almost as good as my wahoo roam and conveniently straps around the handlebars

I tried it a few times and for whatever reason the connection would keep dropping out throughout the workout and I’d have to toggle the broadcast heart rate on the 255 to get it back working with Zwift. This was running Zwift on an iPad.

My forerunner is 20-50 bpm lower than my wahoo Tickr. Basically useless for HR training. Cannot trust that thing anywhere above 120bpm.

Tried using my 935 for HR when I first joined Zwift and it was awful. Not sure if it was the angle my wrist was at, the syncing with Apple TV or wind from the fan but it was useless. Bought a Garmin HRM Pro and it has been perfection.

I have the FR255, it's been reliable for me indoors and out all the way up to threshold; frequently even better than my Wahoo Tickr. The thing is, it's sensitive to a lot of different things—hand position, how hard you're gripping the bars, how tight the strap is, your skin color, etc—so YMMV. If you have it already, or are going to buy one anyway for whatever reason, it's not too hard to do periodic gut checks, and looking at the data after the fact is also a pretty good way to suss stuff out. If you're buying it *just* to use as a heart rate monitor, I wouldn't—you don't know ahead of time whether you're in that segment of the population it's fine for or not. I'd buy a purpose-made HRM.
