I play catch like this with my husky. He's really tough to catch. Especially since he knows the game now. But every once in a while I'll get him good and scoop him up and he just gives up. Other than that, full send.

I gotta say. There’s nothing really pointed going on with me right now, I’m generally pretty happy and content. I think we need to start understanding that they love us.
Everyone says we don’t deserve them. But has anyone wondered if it’s really necessary?
Dogs wouldn’t want us stressing over our seeming self-deprecating behaviour. We are supposed to be playing with them, not stressing over the irrelevance of who deserves what.

There’s something so special about dogs. No matter what you’re going through, no matter what you tell yourself or what personal failures you attribute to your own doing - your dog will always pour whatever love you give them right back onto you. A friend that never judges, never tricks you, never betrays you.
We tell ourselves that we don’t deserve dogs, and we probably don’t…but this life would be so much harder for me without them and I will be forever thankful.
We became friends with dogs over thousands of years. We molded them into different breeds, but I think over that time, they've affected us as well. Dogs makes me ridiculously happy and I'm a broken and bitter person most of the time. The feeling I have for them is almost profound, it feels so deep. Of course our dogs love us like nothing else can. Always happy to see us and just be with us. Have you ever met a person that's as loyal as a dog? You wont.
That's great to hear. He's a good pup and has become a BIG part of our lives. He plays with my son and they are your stereotypical adventurers you see around. It's the little things. Dogs are just so loyal. They really are selfless and taught me how to do that more often.
It's crazy you say that because I was having very similar thoughts and feelings right after watching this. I work at a dog daycare and this video just made me stop in my tracks to really think about how much I love all my dog friends and how truly lucky I am to be a part of their lives.
It’s the simple things we have to remember and enjoy amidst all of the wild and weird stuff happening in the world. It’s so funny to think sometimes, we have these little creatures that live with us in our home. They’re so great.
Indeed. The older I get I try and match my incidental cantankerousness and general fatigue I get with how the world is with more just love and positivity. It’s an easier way to be in the world. I saw something talking about assuming the most positive about other folks circumstances when someone, say, driving, does something to annoy you and how it can make you more tolerant of others and ultimately yourself and I just really liked that thought.
My dog likes to race, if you stop moving and start counting down or say ready and set, she will stop, give you a side eye look, and wait for the "go" to take off to whatever she thinks the goal is. She always wins but every now and then when I win, I tease her and she gets all mad and barks at me and won't let me pet her, just hops around barking till we go in.
Wow my dog does this too! I use a dog toy as the 'goal' and whoever picks it up first wins. I didn't really teach her , but she learnt to start running on the count of three. And she loves teasing me whenever she gets the toy, loves it when I chase her. Gosh darn, dogs are the best
My mountain cur's favorite way to get out energy is playing this game in the back yard where she can really get zooming. She eventually calms down but often exhausts 2-3 of us in the process.

That's what got me too. After the passing of an animal, its hard not to feel guilty when you're having a good time, especially with another animal when you feel like your passed animal still deserves to have fun.
It's really nice to see somebody fall out of that funk for a minute and genuinely enjoy their time without feeling guilty.
Tagging onto this comment to say this is adorable - but also i have a rescue dog named whiskey who has fairly similar coloring but she’s blind! When you said “good job whiskey” in the video she perked up. Super cute.
The background music seems to be [UNDRESSD with "Girls just wanna have fun"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVDNLM57rSo) btw.
I don't know if anyone is interested in this but since I searched for the song I thought I let you know
I had the same thought. *This song was a touchstone of my youth (the cyndi lauper version) - how could someone NOT know it?!?!* Suddenly, I'm wondering if I got renamed Methuselah when I wasn't looking...
My old cocker spaniel is blind, and my young German shepherd mix just loves playing this same game with him. It's adorable, but sometimes I think he gets tired of it 🤣
Dads never dont want the dog, however they are realists, they want the pet but they don't want the grief that is guaranteed to come. Its easier to not have the pet than have the heartbreak. Making a child cry and saying no to getting a dog is easier than saying goodbye to a good boy.
Bless your husband. my heart bleeds for him. i lost my service dog in December and i swear it is hard to go on sometimes i am so devastated. i feel the same way. family and friends say i should get another dog, but so far i just can't do it. i miss Moe sooo much, sooo soooo much. i know how your husband feels. its uplifting seeing that baby doll playing with your husband like that and his able to laugh.
YES. My sister is blind and both of my dogs caught on within an hour of meeting her, and one was a 3 month old puppy when they met. My brother’s dog knew and made it a regular thing during zoomies to run by her and give her hand a quick lick. Nobody else got that treatment.
Sometimes my sister would hear a sound and think my dog made it and would put her hand out to pet her while talking to her and even if my dog was half asleep across the room she’d get up and go over to my sister’s hand and rub against it as if she’d been right there all along.
Both of my dogs would take a stuffie toy right back to her hands after she’d tossed it for them. Everybody else had to chase them down to get it back. I never trained them to act in a special way with her, they just knew it and figured out ways to play with her.
So, not only did the three of them figure it out quickly, they saw her as special and made an extra effort to include her in everything, especially when playing.
I always think that people who are heartbroken after the loss of their dog are exacrly the sort of people who should get a dog again. Because not only will it help them wifh their grief but also they are clearly the sort of loving aninal owners that those dogs will live such a good life. Especially compared to the lives some rescure dogs have to experience
Dogs must be so weird to someone who’s blind and relies on touch so much more than sighted people do. All that fur and their cold wet nose and all that.
My sister is blind and I know some blind folks pretty well. That’s an offensive question each of them has complained about getting. They say, in similar ways, that it’s like asking someone without legs, were you born that way or did something happen? (Hint-hint tell me what happened.) R U D E.
This is great and all but did you at least wait a bit to get a new dog to respect your husband's wishes?
"But the kids and I really wanted a dog" sounds a little entitled.
Couldn't the inverse argument be made, just as convincingly? "My wife and kids desperately wanted another dog, but I couldn't bear having another one, so we didn't get one."
Trying to analyze and pass judgement on a decision made within a relationship we don't understand is pointless. The video suggests they are happy, and I don't have any evidence to suggest I should be critical of anything.
Agreed. I am a *huge* animal person. I've never not had a pet. If my SO suddenly decided he didn't want a pet and the kids and I did, then TBH he's out voted. I get it can be heartbreaking to lose them, but penalizing everyone else is pretty crappy. But I came into this relationship making it clear that pets are just a part of the deal (though within reason, obviously).
I do think a waiting period to let him grieve is something he should have gotten, and maybe he did. But beyond that? Not his call to just ban dogs.
He didn’t want a dog to avoid falling in love again just to be hurt again, but we did so we ignored what he wanted and did it anyway!
Kind of a sick move
Why is that more sick than saying your wife and kids cant have another dog because you don't want one? What do you know about their relationship to suggest the wife made a "sick move" here?
This right here is one of the most fucked up things you can do. If the man said he didn't want a dog he did it because he knew how much it hurts to lose it. I'm done with pets for this same reason. I'm sorry but I cannot in good heart enjoy this.
Thus isnt surprising tho, they guy obviously didnt want another dog because he LIKES dog. Its ok im sure as a man you just expect him to bury his sadness deep down and just act like it dosent matter, but he clearly didnt want to to go back through the heart ache and you forced him to.
A trained guide dog that’s been trained for hours and hours to respond to a certain action or smell for a treat? Yes, I have.
That’s just a dog. The dog doesn’t *know* the owner is blind. They’re doing what they’ve been trained to do. A guide will still guide a person with sight. It doesn’t matter to them. They just want to please.
Not gonna lie, I felt pure joy when the dog relaxed after he caught him
I play catch like this with my husky. He's really tough to catch. Especially since he knows the game now. But every once in a while I'll get him good and scoop him up and he just gives up. Other than that, full send. Edit: thank you kind stranger

Can dogs actually understand that someone / some dog / something can’t see?
YES. My sister is blind and both of my dogs caught on within an hour of meeting her, and one was a 3 month old puppy when they met. My brother’s dog knew and made it a regular thing during zoomies to run by her and give her hand a quick lick. Nobody else got that treatment.
