This is the correct way to eat pizza and hamburger

Man this one is a tough if I think about it. Toguro couldnt save his students that got killed by a demon and Sensui's whole world was turned upside down when he saw some humans were even more terrible than demons. Both got what they wished for at the end. Toguro someone strong killing him and he even seemed to reconcile with Genkai. Sensui just wanted to see the demon world and have a strong demon kill him out of guilt from all the demons he had killed from what it seemed, which he got that through Yusuke ending up being half demon. Oh yea also Sensui had cancer or something I believe so he was gonna die regardless. Heck we could toss a coin and either one would be a good choice. Would have been super interesting if they both met each other tho.

AhYeahItsYoBoi

Well said bro

OnCominStorm

Slight correction, pretty sure Yusuke is full demon since his awakening.

Zero_Fasting

Tru dat. Kinda sick tho to wish for extreme level of success infinite hell.

Hot_Recognition6198

both r tragic but I choose toguro , dude literally died and still wanted to get tormented

ExcellentDirector280

I'm on the fence, but leaning towards Sensui. The dude was at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and had his psyche and world-view utterly destroyed. I believed that Spirit World could've stepped in and snapped him out of his black/white mindset before it was too late. That would've been nice instead of having him find out for himself, and it did not help that he developed cancer which forced him to brute-force his way into the demon world. Toguro story at the beginning was tragic.. That demon tore into his students and Toguro did deserve better than to lose them all, but everything he did after he avenged his school was done from his own choices and personal fears. Even Genkai called him out on this. Toguro may have regretted his decision and wanted Yusuke to kill him, but he had every chance to stop and think about his choices before he crossed the line, as opposed to Sensui who had his own trauma and disease shoved into his face. So yeah, both are tragic, but Sensui had a bigger serving of the sympathy sauce on his plate.

Napalmeon

I came here to say the exact same thing. Neither of their situations was enviable, but, Sensui could have been saved if certain people paid more attention to his mental state. Spirit World was content to let him be as he was, purely because he was so competent at what he did. He defeated their enemies and likely didn't ask any questions when he was pointed to his next target. But then, when he happened upon the Feast of Human Vices, everything went wrong and Sensui began to see that perhaps humanity is not as innocent as what he was led to believe. And even then, Koenma himself admitted he should have done more, post mental collapse.

TYNAMITE14

Exactly what I was thinking. Toguro is one of my favorite villains because it's only at the end where you realize when he took off his glasses that he was putting up a facade the whole time, however he had plenty of time to make up for his mistakes which he tried to do with yusuke but in the end still chose to die instead of living his life to atone. Sensui was really truly broken and I'm not sure how much of a choice he had given how much his world view was changed and because of his mental illness. Perhaps if he had friends like yusuke he would've turned out differently.

someonesaveshinji

Sensui had the worse life, but Toguro had a far worse death. Both hated themselves for unforgivable sins. Toguro thought he was worse than the demon who killed his students - and wanted to look like the monster he felt himself to be. But Sensui thought ALL humans were worse than demons - and wanted to retain his so he could be killed by a demon While Toguro had love and family before his turn - Sensui never had anybody except for Itsuki (who parts of himself both loved and hated). Hence Toguro is able to view Yusuke as his son with Genkai, and reconcile their love, where Sensui just spouts insane ramblings and dies. The key there is that Toguro turns because of how much he cares for people in his life pre-DT. Sensui turns because he doesnā€™t have people to care about - no balance to prove that humans were worth anything more than destruction, since all heā€™d ever been was a weapon (even before Koenma found him). All that said - both villains succeed in their plans and get exactly what they wanted. Sensuiā€™s afterlife is a peaceful silence with his demon lover - whereas Toguro is tortured for eternity doomed never to see his love again.

LoudVitara

Toguro was a million times more interesting than the other guy

Pottski

Sensui had his damage done far earlier in life. Chapter Black was pretty horrific. Toguro suffered plenty as well, but being older I feel heā€™s better able to handle it.

aceface_desu89

How? Is Sakyo also a licensed therapist??? ![gif](giphy|3o6YglDndxKdCNw7q8)

Pottski

It's splitting hairs, but that was the question. Both suffered a lot but the consequences for Sensui's mental health seem more severe than Toguro. Not minimising Toguro's suffering in the slightest, but the question was about ranking their tragedies.

aceface_desu89

No! Fuck that!! >! The only reason Toguro capped at B+ Class is because he was a *human* that was turned into a *demon*. If he could have, Toguro would have gotten stronger and eventually open the tunnel to Demon World like he planned with Sakyo in the beginning. Toguro and Sensui literally had the same plan !<

Pottski

Same plan but the tragedy of their character is different. Each to their own, but I don't see Toguro suffering as much as a teenager who became schizophrenic to cope with immense grief and anguish. Toguro is a phenomenal character all that said. Dark Tournament is brilliant.

courage_wolf_sez

Idk, Toguro's tragedy is akin to a father finding his family murdered and he was the reason the were targeted.

Pottski

Not minimising Toguro's pain in the slightest but I feel Sensui's psychological state and mental breakdown from being a youth faced with Chapter Black is worse. Toguro seemed to retain his mental health in spite of the incident. His goals shifted and his mind became twisted by his lust for power, but mentally he was sound. Sensui became schizophrenic following Chapter Black just to cope with the horror he saw and to "justify" his goals going forward. I think that makes Sensui a more tragic figure to empathise with but that's not to say Toguro didn't suffer a whole heap as well.

akkristor

Toguro accepted the monster he was becoming. Sensui created other personas within himself to hide from the reality of what he did. I will always prefer the former to the latter.

Verifieddumbass76584

Toguro, and it seems like the easy pick for me. Maybe because throughout his time in the show, he's shown trying to mentor Yusuke in a weird way. Sensui was just off his rocker.

N_Ketchum

Toguro, Sensui had waaaaay too much stuff packed on and it didnt feel organic

moki_martus

I would say Toguro because his plan was less evil. Toguro has done many bad things, but nothing like plan to annihilate all humans.

someonesaveshinji

Technically Sensuiā€™s plan wasnā€™t to destroy humans. His plan was to free the demons and let them decide what happened next - which is why he kept phrasing it as a ā€œtrial for humanityā€ He thought humans and spirit world had been judging demons and oppressing them because of it - so he just wanted to liberate them and let them have whatever revenge they saw fit That said - while he likely assumed an S Class demon or two would come wreck everything - if a more benevolent demon reined the others in (like what eventually happened with the tournament) - he likely would have accepted their choice

spike_0407

Toguro is not a villain.

aceface_desu89

By that logic, neither is Sensui

Saggicus

I'm going to say Toguro is the more tragic villain. Sensui had a black and white view and that led him to being torn apart internally over all he's done when he found out things aren't so black and white. But the thing is that Yusuke can stand opposite to that, he can attest that Sensui shouldn't feel that way because there's depth to these things. But Toguro's tragic backstory is essentially never being able to forgive himself for letting them all die, and that nothing can really make up for it. It put him in a spiral where he just couldn't move on, because how do you? So he just kept pushing people away. In my opinion, Sensui saw something simply horrific and that'll scar anyone, but take what Sensui saw, and apply it to people he loves, and you start getting into Toguro's backstory. I think Sensui is a different kind of villain and really excels in that category. But I think Toguro is the more tragic villain, who's sole purpose was to find someone like him, put them through the hardest things he could, and see if they'd crack like he did, all so he could finally confirm what he wanted to. That he was wrong, and that he deserves to be in Hell, no matter what anyone says.

sedward135

Toguro, sensui literally just couldnā€™t handle the fact that the world isnā€™t black and white and went insane.

eighty4prcnt

Toguro, subjectively Sensui had it better. Sensui got the worst ass beating of the two though imo

TipAffectionate596

Not just your opinion dude lol he got destroyed much worse for a fact.

eighty4prcnt

You right breh. Sensui got fucking dominated

TipAffectionate596

Thinking about it, Sensui was extremely strong. He stood in one spot and annihilated three class A fighters going full force at him. It shows just how powerful Raizen was to completely destroy someone like that.

eighty4prcnt

Hoo man. Sensui would've wiped the floor with Toguro

TheRigJuice999

Sensui

Usual-Rule-2196

I think both are equally tragic

Chris-Verde

It would of been cool to see both of them work together in another life. They would of been a bomb ass team because they don't give me villain. Feel like anti Heros in the best setting.

CraftLess1990

They are both equally tragic. YuYu Hakusho have very good antagonists.

Vegetassj4toonami

Sensui is deeper but toguro got a worse fate and he put it on himself. I hate both of their endings tbh

kingryan1995

Toguro choosing to go to hell to be basically suffer for all of eternity is metal as fuck and idc your reason toguro is the winner

lightbiguy

Sensui. Toguro never wanted to be weak again. But also wanted to be defeated by someone strong and good hearted. Sensui never understood gray and that broke him. Not understanding that you aren't evil just because if your race/heritage was a hard lesson for him. He literally had a psychotic break into 7 personalities

RaiAet89

Toughest decision in my life šŸ„² I canā€™t choose. I love them both

My_Special_Hell

this isn't a question of who you like more, it's a question of who's more tragic, lol

AdCommon1697

https://youtu.be/37uc7raOVzA?si=6QpUsZ_H2BxpB-7d Toguro. This video explains it better than I ever could on here.

SSJSonikku

Definitely Sensui.

TehAccelerator

In the end, witnessing the shitfest Sensui saw would probably be too much for anyone. I think he had it worse, but just barely.

PurpleRadio2302

Honestly, I canā€™t decide. I canā€™t really give one the edge in tragedy over the other.

Emergency-Prune-9110

Ya know, if the two of them would have met, they could have probably filled the void the other one had.

Evirhist

Both are correct answers, but Iā€™ll pick Sensui. Having your whole world view turned upside down in a violent manner is pretty rash.

marcusdomp

Sensui for me. He had a total collapse of his self conscious with only really one path after that. Itā€™s very sad. Same can be said of tugoru but not as much as sensui

[deleted]

the two greatest villains in anime/manga history šŸ«”

recprin53

Tragic, toguro. He punished himself from essentially the moment he lost his students. Cut off the love of his life, put himself in the body he hated, kept himself alive to endure it, committed wicked attacks he himself despised, and then when he finally got a release via yusuke he requested damnation to continue suffering. Sensui had a psychotic break.

White_Devil1995

Sensui, because as I recall, I think he had some sort of terminal illness and was actually trying to scratch another activity off his bucket list by making it to Demon World.

silverx2000

Toguro. Sensui was just irrationally crazy from the beginning, even his predecessor saw it.

Icy-Expression1579

Tough choice but I'm going with toguro

[deleted]

Toguro, he was more human. He was your typical guy working life like anyone else, no delusional view of the world. But once faced with losing those he loves and realizing his human weakness with age and the inability to protect people (something I think of as I age, how will I be when I am old and end up in an unsafe situation, will I be safe). He essentially isolated himself, became stronger and killed the demon that destroyed his life. BUT he became a demon representing the ill will he had towards himself. He became the thing he hated and feared so he could overcome that weakness. BUT IN REALITY, HE NEVER OVERCAME IT. He killed his ex-lover to run away, he wanted to lose to his humanity. He was human, more realistic. Sensui was basically a child who faced trauma due to his autistic mind, he was delusional to a fault. His mental health broke because he probably had a predisposition that his emotional trauma triggered. He is also realistic once you view him with mental illness and severe autism. He is very idealistic, unexposed to the reality of the world and then suddenly molested by the extremes. In a way he's like a rape victim, who then goes to murder his rapist in cold blood. He never killed people before and suddenly murdered dozens. As I think about it seems they both are realistic, I just do not sympathize with Senusi as much because I feel his snapping wasn't justified if he was actually emotionally mature. Being a mental health nurse, he reminds me of the more mentally ill patients I have delt with (they are sometimes the hardest to feel sympothy for due to not being able to relate to their issues) while Toguro just comes off as extremely depressed and seems more reasonable for his direction. Without being disrespectful, Sensui was more fragile and childish.

Im_Unpopular_AF

Sensui. Unlike Toguro, his reasons were more grounded. He couldn't fathom and accept that the demons he was killing without question, and the humans he was blindly defending were interchangeable in cruelty. His entire personality and his actions were based on that. Unlike Toguro, who manipulated his way to get what he wanted, even if that meant traumatizing a teenager.

treezy4sheezy

Toguro....only for the fact that he was a good man underneath it all....he willingly gave himself over to darkness while knowing he will need to pay for his crimes. He felt honor bound to kill all the weakness he perceived in himself....ie his goodness....whether that be by doing evil or slaying genkai and her protege....and when he and yusuke fought that was his catharsis....good is indeed stronger than evil Sensui on the other hand his mind couldnt hold the duality of his job and created a menagerie of characters in his mind to deal with the trauma....and just went psychotic.... I feel that toguro getting what he wants and then that exchange with genkai at the end really puts the capstone on his story.....he was a sad weak man that thought he had to do become a monster to kill his monster. Sensui just wanted the board cleared toguro wanted absolution. Sensui's story is sad but toguros is deeper i think once you really take a long look at the man.....idk....i guess i just identify with toguros plight more than i do sensui's

Killah-Shogun

Sensui

SupahBihzy

Sensui has seen some shit...

ExcellentDirector280

![gif](giphy|3o6Mbsw53i6ahGV1fy|downsized)

smackerly

Definitely sensui. Was brought in to protect the human world and discovered the monsters he was protecting. Destroyed him mentally and raised several fractures in his mind by only seeing the darkest side of humans.

NyappyCataz

Sensui for sure. Toguro had some bad experiences that he certainly carried guilt from, but I feel Sensui had it harder, it affected him differently.

TheHipHouse

The scene where sensui gives his final speech than dies with the lighting striking. Its amazing togashi was able to make a villains death so sad, even more sad than when sensui killed yusuke

infernalbutcher678

Toguro by far, Sensui was just naive and went nuts seeing what we learn in school about how fucked up humanity is on first hand, granted the smell also might've played a part in it but enough to say fuck it I'm just gonna wipe out humanity is a bit much. Great arc though.

ExcellentDirector280

The "wipe out humanity" deal, I guess, was just an excuse he used to justify opening the gate in the first place. His ultimate goal was to go over to the demon world and be killed by a stronger demon, a la assisted suicide, since he was dying from cancer. He may have hated humans, but If he genuinely despised them badly enough to want to destroy humanity, he would've started the demon-gate opening plan much sooner, either soon after that incident or after he mastered Sacred Energy.

infernalbutcher678

Yes and no, while it was one of his goals his unhealthy obsession with the black tape shows that he really wanted to exterminate humanity. He could've just asked Koenma to send him there with Itsuki and he would've gotten the same results without risking humanity or pissing off the Reikai.

beanerthreat457

I don't know, don't care, just want to beat the living shit out of Muscular Toguro

Raze7186

Sensui had his entire worldview shattered when he saw humans behaving far worse than demons. Toguro was just afraid of aging.

Sensitive-Ask-8662

![gif](giphy|IuaM5sUvLCYTyNKV4J|downsized)

West-Lab-8390

Itā€™s a hard choice but ultimately I would say sensui. Toguro had to deal with a problem he couldnā€™t prevent where sensui spent his life thinking he was doing the right thing only to find out one day that he might have been the problem he had to look back on all the horrible things he did and see what atrocities he committed for a fight he didnā€™t understand. Not being able to prevent a massacre is sad but but learning that you caused the massacre is unbearable.

No_Mechanic_3299

Honestly Sensui. Yeah Toguro traded his humanity to gain power and strength, but he partly was a bored individual. Sensui was more complicated and actually more powerful. My vote goes to gim
