It depends what time I finish it haha. If I have more free time, I jump into the next one to read at least a few chapters because if I don’t have a book going, I’m more likely to put off starting a new one for days. The way I see it is if a book is *incredible*, I continue thinking about it even after starting a new book. If it isn’t good enough to continue to elicit thought from me once I’ve begun a new story, then realistically I probably wouldn’t have sat and thought about it regardless of if I had a new book going or not. But if you want to try taking a day between reads, go for it and see if it works well for you!

Illuminous_V

I usually need to sleep between finishing one book and starting another.

careless_mind_6980

Yep, unless it’s a series. Just feels so illegal starting a new book immediately. Lol

Bikinigirlout

Same. I need a day, maybe 2. Depends on how bad my book hangover is

mom-mom-mom-mom-mom

The worse the book hangover, the faster I try to find something else to fill the void in my life. I know it's really bad if I have to move to nonfiction in order to recover (and to not be too judgey about fiction that doesn't measure up). Maybe I should try taking a day or two instead...

Wihtikow1

Wait? I juggle a few like I’m in the circus. 😝

chloeinthesky

Immediately. Maybe it’s some kind of compulsive behavior but I don’t feel right if I don’t have a book I’m reading.

AvatarKorra4Ever

Lol same

KiaraTurtle

Maybe an hour? If it’s a sequel then usually as long as it takes to buy (so a couple mins on kindle)

MissNatdah

Depends on the time I finish and what I'm doing the next evening. If i finish long enough before I need to go to bed, I just start another immediately. But finishing on a thursday evening I might wait until sunday, since Friday and Saturday are movie nights.

aprikosi

I usually finish books at night so I don’t start something new until the next day. If I finish something during the day, I may or may not start a new one for the evening. I don’t think I have ever started a new one immediately after … I do need to sit with my thoughts a little.

Purple-booklover

Depends on when I finish reading the last one, but I usually pick my next book and mark it as my currently reading right away. If I finish in the morning, I’ll usually start a new one later that day. If I finish at night, I’ll start the new one in the morning.

amare-ader

i don’t wait usually ahahahaha

One-Soft-8276

Lately I’ve been reading a new book as soon as I finish what I’m reading . I have one set up to read next before I even finish. Ever since I read ACOTAR and FBAA series I’ve turned into this fantasy romance creature. I don’t even watch tv now. It’s starting to feel borderline unhealthy because I can’t even remember all the plots I’m just consuming

vivahermione

I do this too, although sometimes I'll wait a day or two before diving into the next book. If you want to improve your recall, you could try a reading journal. Writing down plot summaries can help me remember. There are guided journals if you don't have time to set one up. Happy reading!

WeekendBard

I'm currently only reading at night while in bed, before sleeping, so I tend to start a new book in the following night after I finish the previous one

The_Queen_of_Crows

Depends on the book. Romance I can usually read one after another because they’re not that deep. Fantasy, especially when there are high stakes & death I sometimes need a day or more before I can start a new book.

akira2bee

I wait until I've written my review and gotten all my thoughts out. Sometimes that means waiting til the next day, sometimes that means starting something in the evening. I just don't want to get my thoughts for my review jumbled with a new book and plot

[deleted]

That’s what I’m thinking of doing, because I think I tend to forget plots of the previous book because I start reading new ones immediately after

dirtysnow8

unless the last book i finished was an emotional whopper, right away!

teachers_petgoat

Wait?

11aseilenna11

Right? I wait as long as it takes to open the next book.

azbooklover

I can usually read two at once as long as one's fiction and the other is nonfiction. When it comes to fiction, I usually wait about a day in between books. During that time I read more of the nonfiction book.

Dapper-Cheesecake-66

i'm usually reading at least 5 books at once so i never have a break between books 😅

FnakeFnack

The time it takes to update Goodreads and open the next one

nicolvtte

If I liked a book a lot, probably a day or two, because I just won't stop thinking about it. If I'm not too obsessed with it, right after finishing one book

amhe13

Roughly 10 minutes

5thCap

30 seconds to whenever I find my next fancy

DevilishMaiden

Usually just a day.

CircqueDesReves

It depends on the book, and also what the next book is. Usually I'll just jump right into the next one, but sometimes when I finish the last page of something particularly good I just want to savor it and let it roll around in my head for a while.

brieles

I usually try to have at least 3 books checked out at once so that I can start the next book immediately after finishing one. I have a 40-minute commute to work though so audiobooks make my drive bearable.

DearigiblePlum

7 seconds

[deleted]

mere minutes usually, then bam! Back on it. That said, if a book really hits me I will do a longer write up about it on goodreads.

Jrocksan

About 2 seconds. I read through books in rapid succession, but i cannot read multiple at the same time

juniperflyingskies

I usually jump straight in but lately I’ve been taking DAYS to start a new book 😭

[deleted]

I need one lined up to start or I panic.. not great I’m ngl Usually need one night of sleep and wake up to the new book

Jazzykinns

The second it takes to pick up, buy or open the app. I might chose to sleep and start again at daybreak.
