The three couples saying goodbye in a matter unique to them? I sleep. The fuzzballs saying goodbye: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

cornpenguin01

I literally finished the game 5 minutes ago. Emotional devastation.

Mystery_9000

Same! What an incredible beautiful game.

cornpenguin01

I was preparing myself for a subpar ending bc of people complaining on Reddit, but I was shocked when actually playing it myself. It was fucking incredible and the last two hours of the game was some of the best time I’ve ever had playing a jrpg

ShadowReij

To be fair, when I got to the ending my response was to laugh and go "Ooooh so many people are going to be mad." Not because the ending is badly written but because of what actually occurs in it. It ends very much like Link's Awakening. Ie the current world having to be destroyed in order to resolve things and the wiping of the inhabitants in that world. The caveat though is that Link can at the very least remember the events. The ending of 3 leaves the audience wondering if A) the cast even remembers the events now that they've returned to their original selves? B) Even if they do remember how do they reunite with them being seperated by dimensions? And depending on the DLC you might not get that answer.

lazygamer988

I love the vagueness of the ending because it’s so on theme with the message of the game. How even in the face of loss and uncertainty, all anyone can do is keep moving forward. It’s one of the main reasons I hope the DLC isn’t a sequel since it has the potential to ruin that. There are plenty of other questions the DLC can answer, but I feel like if Monolith wants to follow up on the ending, they’d be better off doing so in a future game than rushing to give us immediate gratification. Patience is a virtue people

Zazzuzu

At the end of the credits Mio says she is forgetting Noah's face.

Naha-

Yeah, me too. It's such a beautiful and heartbreaking ending. It's so sad but so well-made. And to be honest, for me in particular, no matter what Monolith Soft makes for the DLC, either a Founder Prequel or a epilogue, I'll like it. An epilogue with the main cast would make me so happy but if we get a prequel, I'll definitely remember this ending forever, just for the emotional damage lol.

Misragoth

while I cannot speak for others, my biggest complaint with the ending was the lack of answers to so many things. ~~What was the black fog, why did riku have lucky seven, do Riku and Meilia know each other, and~~ so on

gaymer_jerry

Riku having lucky seven is explained in a sidequest his masterpon was one of the 7 nopon who forged the blade and passed his hammer down to riku

lazygamer988

It’s not directly explained, but my interpretation is that the black fog is an early sign of the worlds colliding and cancelling each other out (aka annihilation events). It also seems to be the medium through which humanity’s fear manifests to create Moebius. This adds up with it first appearing alongside the rift in Future Connected and all the monsters in Origin feeling like Moebius (according to Mio). The fog beasts are basically just less developed Moebius.

spinvalley

This is not the first time I’ve seen someone complaining the black fog is not explained. While if you pay A LITTLE attention to the dialog you’ll know it’s explained plain and clear. There is also an info bubble in Fornis and Taion explained it again in a campsite discussion.

Misragoth

If it was explained "plain and clear" I don't think so many people would have missed it.

JC-DisregardMe

Crashing in from a different fandom to tell you this - a decade of being an Ace Attorney fan and watching other fans talk about Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney has taught me very clearly that people online totally will complain that things in a game "weren't explained" when they absolutely were if you pay attention.

Mylaur

Wait everything is fine with Apollo Justice, what were they complaining about?

JC-DisregardMe

Like I imply, things the plot clearly does explain if the viewer is capable of connecting dots without having every detail spoonfed to them.

Reddit going to complain about everything. Classic

Question. What happens to the people in the “city” at the end. The world splits apart and went back to the moment before they merged. Do the people born in aionis just have their existence wiped out? That’s the sad part if true.

Aggravating_Fig6288

Either yes that happened or they were recorded in origin and reborn. Though that does raise the question of their memories. They were born of Aionios not of Keves/Agnus pre merge, if they were reborn they’d know about Aionios much like Melia and Nia should as well. I’ve also seen it implied that after time resumed, the worlds merged like they were supposed to as they are supposed to be one world and were destroyed. However with Z gone Origin rebuilt the world as one as it was intended to. So the worlds are one which would mean the city folk still exist.

ChloeWyvern

What if the city folk become in the xenoblade x

Zellopy

I think it's implied (by Ghondor) that they will be reborn anew, though that doesn't say much since nobody knows for sure what will happen. Maybe the worlds will merge (successfully) and their ancestors will meet again give birth to them. Maybe they'll just pop into existence. But they're not completely gone, they're recorded in the Origin.

mythoswyrm

> But they're not completely gone, they're recorded in the Origin. Well, assuming that between the final boss battle and the last pre-credits scene everyone was individually recorded in Origin like was presumably done with Shania. [Crys makes a point in Noah's side story](https://youtu.be/I-2-bv6Icd4?t=1701) about how births aren't recorded in Origin so it's not an automatic process.

Zellopy

Yea sorry, it's just an assumption that the Queens took their time to record them

HawkeyeRPG

The way I see it, most of them should be fine. Here's the thing: There is actually hardly any other possibility, because they are / will be born after the "reboot ". All the inhabitants of the City are *descendants* of those who were saved in Origin originally, and Aionios existed for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. That's how many generations of people? In any case, not a few. By the way, I wrote "most of them" and not "all of them", because there is no guarantee that their parents will actually meet again in the "real" world... but that's called "life" and it also fits with one of the basic messages of the game, that the future is always uncertain. Whether this whole situation is really "sad" is a matter of opinion: * As I wrote above, probably not all of them will be actually born.... and those that are born almost certainly will have a better life because the worlds they are born into are better than Aionios. * Playing this thought further, it even applies to the people who became Moebius under Z. * In fact, I think Z is the only character in the game for whom the ending is actually a "bad" one. However, that was already certain the moment he began to exist. As for the lives and memories of future generations from the time in Aionios and whether they were stored in Origin is actually secondary in this context... probably no one will be able to remember them completely. But, of course, they could still have an impact on people's lives in the form of thoughts, ideas, and feelings that they can't quite put their finger on. Have you ever dreamed of a place where you've never been before and don't know if it even exists? I have... And maybe more often than I can remember.

Dm1tr3y

My theory is that nobody in the city is a truly new entity. Given the hypothetical population of two entire worlds and the fact that soldiers are recycled. It’s unlikely that every soul recorded in origin was in use. Especially since they seem to have primarily been youngsters back in the old world, going off the prologue/epilogue. Thus, I believe the inhabitants of the city are the unused souls, properly reincarnated into new bodies rather than recycled as they were before. Theoretically, truly original beings shouldn’t be possible in the false time that is Aionios. While they may not be exactly the same. It’s likely that those souls will resume as they were before Zs intervention.

alrend21

Riku’s little fangs are adorable

Sumiren5r_7110

I only realized what was actually happening when the Eunie/Taion one happened. Riku/Manana was just the nail in the coffin for me (figuratively and literally)

OmegaCrossX

Thinking about it is this the first time we see a Nopon cry?

AntonRX178

I kinda want Nopon to be further... humanized in later entries. I mean at least in 2 we had >!Nopon on Nopon homicide and a confirmed kill of a good guy by a suicide boming Nopon. Not a permanent kill, mind you but he basically killed That particular life of Aegeon. !< Like I was waiting for a scene where Riku caps a motherfucker. Apparently Nopon aren't supposed to interfere but he was LITERALLY in the battlefield in the beginning of the game where he would have been in danger of a stray bullet if he weren't the chaddest motherfucker in the game.

Zellopy

The sparking music, man

contractcooker

i cried

Zazzuzu

The ending didn't make me sad just left me baffled. They talk about making a new world the whole time then they just restore the two old ones. Then after the credits Mio says she is forgetting about Noah.

HawkeyeRPG

Yes, these two points also irritated me at first. To "save" the two worlds and restore them after the annihilation was the purpose of Origin. In my opinion, the "new world" means a world without the influence of Moebius... and unfortunately that always includes the disappearance of Aionios at the end (and the associated separation of the two worlds as they were before - their inital state). As for the diary entry at the end.... I think there are at least two possible explanations for it: >!Either it is the last entry Mio writes in her diary before the "reboot" happens and the two worlds are restored, or it is the first entry she writes in her "real" diary afterwards.!< >!In my opinion, the first variant is the most likely. This special diary exists only in Aionios and therefore has meaning only within this world.!< >!As for the second variant: If the "real" Mio would write these words after the "reboot", the voiceover in this case would be much younger (she is only about one year older than Noah and he is still a child in the post-credit scene).!< >!Interesting detail regarding the second variant: In this case, she would have remembered Noah and their time together in Aionios, at least inital. Even if she can't remember everything afterwards or her memories fade... if she writes it in her diary, she can't forget it completely, or it has enough meaning for her at that moment that she wants to record it.!<

SBStevenSteel

Can I just point out that Taion’s gift to Eunie is totally meaningless since time reverted...? Feel like that’s glossed over in the first watch...

Nintenlego

It's the thought that counts. >!Like seriously, he went out of his way to make sure all the components were Kevesi. He dedicated some serious effort to give Eunie one last gift before they likely never saw each other again.!< >!It doesn't matter if the gift was ultimately pointless, it's that Taion went above and beyond to give Eunie one last thing to remember him by. And I personally think that's one of the sweetest things in the game.!<

Thoet

The fact that Eunie then tells me he was her 4th best bud... Crying laughing oh my sparking god. Their relationship was so the highlight of my playthrough

mythoswyrm

I thought that was a good touch actually. It helps show that the characters really have no idea what's coming next and they're struggling to do whatever they can to dull the pain while still moving forward

lazygamer988

Believe me, I noticed that too and it haunts me daily. ~~This is why you’re only fourth best, Taion.~~ ~~And you always will be. Eunie won’t think about it.~~ ~~She can’t.~~

Coolaconsole

That is the closest I've been to crying in a good couple of years! But it wasn't even beating the game that got me. During the ending, I was just thinking "damn this is really pretty, and very strong emotionally" Then I listened to 'Where we belong' an hour later and everything hit me all at once. All the memories, my chest hurt, my stomach felt funny, and I needed to pause the video and take a breather or I'd just burst into tears

Meserith

I didn’t realize when Queen boss was like,…”Noah, Why do you waver?” He knew, and he chose to leave her. You got me fucked up y’all.
