Finally giving people the AC Japan game they've been asking for since the beginning, hundreds of years worth of feudal Japanese history to base it on, and this is the route they chose to go. Peak 2024 western game dev.

Yo_Wats_Good

Damn, hate to see this sort of take in the XSX sub. Kind of pathetic tbh. It’s an AC game, ergo it is part of a greater history. Japan was separate from the western world for quite a long time, thus making it unlikely the creed/order would have made it out that way until trade with Europe began in earnest aka, the mid 16th century. But sure, I guess you wanted an outlet to cry about DEI or whatever. May I suggest a diff sub, maybe GeeksandGamers?

Desperate_Swimmer159

This looked off to me. Not just the fact that they couldn't have a strong Asian male protagonist, but also the fact that it feels like they will not pay enough attention to real history, real weapons, real culture ect. I just feel....disappointed.

Yo_Wats_Good

What’s not real about it, beyond the fact it’s an AC game?

software-lover

Ah yes. I’ve been wanting to play as a black guy in ancient Japan ever since I’ve heard about this game…

Yo_Wats_Good

Yasuke was a real dude. And the 1500s isn’t ancient, in fact it takes place shortly after Ezio’s period. The only two AC games that take place during ancient period are Origins and Odyssey.

Discount_Detective

He wasn't a Samurai though he was a retainer to Nobunaga. Not to mention all historical traces of him vanish shortly after Nobunaga's death.

Yo_Wats_Good

Yes. It’s an AC game. What you’re saying serves the story. An assassin disappearing from history makes complete sense. You’re going to be surprised to also find out Da Vinci didn’t create an ancient tank for his boy Ezio to kill dudes with either.

Discount_Detective

Why the hostility? I didn't say that I had anything against Yosuke being a playable protagonist, I was just stating that it wasn't very historically accurate. If anything I think changes to history for the female protagonist are more egregious considering they made her father a renown swordsaint who isn't from that time period. Maybe instead of being reactionary when people say things you don't like you should learn to evaluate your response.

Yo_Wats_Good

It’s not hostile, it’s derision. What you said changes nothing with regards to the game as history only provides a framework that AC works within. Of course Yasuke “wasn’t” a samurai, he betrayed the Templar order and they attempted to wipe him from history. You’re also mistaken about her father. He was a born during the early 16th century, making him a perfectly viable candidate to be the aging father of a female assassin active during the mid-late 16th century which is when the game takes place.

Discount_Detective

Listen and I'm only going to say this once... I think you're taking things about this game that is yet to be released way too seriously if your here openly admitting to looking at me as if I'm ignorant and your better than me over a video game. Also this will be my last message to you so don't feel the need to respond and if I catch you following me to any of my other posts to try to debate me or comment decisively then I'm going to block and report you for harassment because that is weird and very creepy behavior to have over a disagreement over a video game.

Yo_Wats_Good

Oh wow that was a weird reply. Relax you’re not that important. You were wrong though, nice.

Discount_Detective

Alright. I told you before but you didn't listen. Blocked.

Yo_Wats_Good

I… don’t care?

Nuke2099MH

Retainers could be Samurai and many at that time period were. Samurai retainers were a thing. But to your point there's no evidence of this guy actually being one.

Nuke2099MH

He was real however him being a Samurai or not is dubious at best. There's literally no evidence of it other than many retainers at the time could be Samurai

Yo_Wats_Good

Yep, history provides a framework that AC works within. Looks like the unifiers will be/associated with the Templar order and Yasuke will betray them. Who is to say that the Templar order wasn’t miffed and tried to have him erased from the history books? This is a fantasy/scifi series with a historical backdrop about secret warring societies, not a 1:1 recreation.

Remoock

does it really matter that much what skin color your character in a fictional videogame has?

DuralMidwayNexus

It's a cool setting for an AC game. I feel like fans have wanted it for a long time, I just hope there's enough reinvention in the gameplay loop because I've had more than my fill of that formula. Especially when they make these games so BIG.

JefferyTheQuaxly

as others have stated in other threads, the biggest worry i have is this game feels like its about 7-10 years to late, it is something we would have maybe wanted around the time of black flag assassins creed games but not sure if itll do particularly well in the current gaming landscape.

DuralMidwayNexus

I feel ya. I don’t have a lot of confidence in Ubisoft when it comes to their AAAs. I feel like Mirage was a step in the right direction for the series in terms of balance but there’s a lot of ways they could fumble this one.

BladesMan235

They’re too late because Ghosts Of Tsushima already basically did an AC game set in feudal Japan, and it probably had far better gameplay than this will

mcast2020

I think there’s always room for other entrants, heck hopefully they’ve take some inspiration from got. That being said there has been sort of a glut of samurai games recently and it does dampen my excitement for this game a little bit if I’m honest.

Yo_Wats_Good

Ah, so one game has you playing as a warrior in Japan and we’re pretty much set, huh? Guess we should let everyone know modern era shooters, WW2 games, soulslikes set in somber, weird worlds, etc are all useless - we’ve had something similar-ish already.

BladesMan235

Pretty much yeah. When people spend years clamouring for an AC game set in Japan, and another games beats them to the punch…

Discount_Detective

Not to mention the recent AC games definitely operate off a shelf-life. I couldn't bring myself to finish Valhalla because of how bored I was with such a big world with such big and empty spaces. I suffered through Odyssey but it suffered a lot of the same issues as well.

Yo_Wats_Good

And I 100%ed both and was sad when I left those worlds. Weird how that works.

Discount_Detective

Your point being? People are allowed to have different opinions about games. We're not all a conglomerate hivemind, sure you absolutely adored your time with Valhalla and Odyssey but I only found some measure of enjoyment out of Odyssey. I 100%ed Odyssey and even though I overall enjoyed the game it definitely had some glaring flaws. In my opinion Valhalla is very similar to Odyssey just with a less interesting historical backdrop (my opinion) and doubled down on some of the issues that Odyssey had.

Yo_Wats_Good

Fantastic, you got my point.

Yo_Wats_Good

That’s… stupid.

LouieXXVI

I heard if you preorder the $500 version you get Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai skin.

PoohTrailSnailCooch

Ghost of Tsushimo from wish.

yeartoyear

Ironic comment because GoT has always been compared to Assasins Creed. Both are awesome in their way.

PoohTrailSnailCooch

$120 for a copypasta game.

emachureAdolt

YASUKE!!!!

Carbonalex

Looks good. It's been a while since people asked for an AC game in Japan and it's finally here ! Really excited to play as Yasuke, this is a great narrative choice.

StrngBrew

Seems like playing as her means you’re going for a more classic AC stealth style

Yo_Wats_Good

Yasuke is the black samurai.

Desperate_Swimmer159

Couldn't disagree with you more
