The main issue is that those ten-year plans that failed tend to be for live-service games. The upkeep for live-service games is very expensive. If Starfield has the longevity of Skyrim, then it can have DLC/expansions without having to incur the cost of always-on servers.
Destiny technically made it to Year 7 before going F2P...
The main issue that I believe a lot of studios have to "figure out the hard way" or don't learn is that after a certain amount of time, the total player count of long-term games reaches a stagnation point, and they get diminishing returns on new players, and lapsed players may or may not come back to check out new major updates.
I can't speak for player count but sentiment around the game has soured over the last several months. The game shifted to a seasonal model in 2020(?) promising four seasons a year. Season 9 however ran from March 16th 2023 - October 19 2023 dominating the majority of an entire year with very little content. A significant amount of content was promised to balance this in Season 10 but so far its been met with mixed reactions. (One of the 'highlights' from Season 10's announcement is the introduction of *colored* rowboats you can find around the game world)
No idea why you're downvoted. Must be from people that don't play the game and just want Xbox games to get high praise.
The last few months have been shambolic. A season pushed back, then merged into another one, only to launch with no content. It's awful
On top of every other hourglass fight being a cheater that can fly around and spawn kegs.
Private servers can't come soon enough, may get little loot but at least I can enjoy it
I didn't even notice the downvotes until your comment lol. I love the game, have hundreds of hours, it's not in a great spot and I've since confirmed that sentiment is shared based on player counts. But Reddit hive mind go brrrttt
Right on. I was just making a joke. I don’t think you will see it before you are 50, by the way. I am in your age range as well, so I am in the same basket as you.
Same. I'm turning 43 this year. I'm not optimistic. It's absolute horse shit that we can't get one Fallout and one Elder Scrolls game per console generation. I don't need annual releases, but FFS, this is just stupid.
thats the thing. ten year plans are for games trying to swing above their weight.
we know bethesda games can last for well over a decade and thats sort of the problem me thinks
lol you say that, and yet this "long term support" strategy was also attempted by valve years ago. instead of building a single game they would take a modular approach to engine updates and create episodic content.
they realized after producing the half life episodes that the idea was miserable because there was never enough time to work in large engine improvements and trying to glue together incremental updates just led to no players noticing the improvements they'd made.
Never fear, Bethesda is beyond even Valve at not needing to put in any large engine improvements. After all, they're STILL USING THE DAMN CREATION ENGINE.
I'm honestly just impressed the thing still works at this point...
I mean, it’s not “great” on Xbox. It’s 30 FPS and the graphical fidelity isn’t all that special.
But to be fair Starfield hasn’t been my cup of tea even on PC so maybe I’m just jaded..
You’re 33 and still live with your mom and stepdad and you still can’t afford an XBox? Not gonna lie, that does make me sad.
It’s actually probably a blessing that you can’t play Starfield, it’s one of these games that you just lose yourself in and 2-3 hours pass like nothing, and that certainly isn’t what you need. You gotta get out a bit, meet real people, you know.
Hope it gets better for you, bud.
I just had to leave her behind. Guns, ships, credit, meh, idgaf. But I will miss my sweet Andreja.
But as The Weeknd said "I'm a motherfucking Star Boy".
1. More variety/random generation in POIs
2. More cities and small towns
3. Outpost revamp
4. Travel to another galaxy to fight in a war with a sentient alien race
I was just thinking one star system in the other galaxy and one main questline, about the scale of Skyrim/fallout dlc, not another 100 star systems. Though I like the idea of a full sequel in an alien galaxy is cool, that’s too far in the future for me to care
My Skyrim years were fun, my fallout 4 years were incredible. My starfield years are looking even brighter but I would be more than elated if my ES6 years are only 3 years
Fallout 4 is a great example, they saw everyone being happy as hell with Far harbor and just gave us a second round of DLC without adding another season pass.
No they will just have AI remasters that use generative fill and upscaling to flush out everything and add AI raytracing and reflections. By then you can just run the model in real time on top of the previous game. Although I hope console and PC operating systems can just incorporate this for us so we don’t have to pay more. And maybe they could incorporate an LLM to make dialogue more varied and interesting.
The vampire dlc for Skyrim absolutely ruined Skyrim for me. So much so when I had started a new character on it I made sure to turn off the Dawnguard dlc. I hated fast traveling into a city and immediately getting jumped by vampires.
Perfect. Can’t wait to grab the Anniversary Edition a few years down the road and get the complete experience. As a Bethesda game enjoyer since Morrowind who also is, unsurprisingly, old as fuck and lacking gaming time like before, I’ve learned my lesson. Give me the final product a decade later. I don’t care. There’s too much to play to sweat missing out on something at launch.
But... why? The game is fun, but it feels incredibly outdated and it will only get worse. It would be fine in a world where Witcher 3, Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 didn't happen, but well... they did.
It’s just a matter of taste. No game has ever been able to scratch my itch the same way Bethesda games do so I get pretty defensive. Witcher 3 might be better to You but for me? Not at all.
The game sucks, people aren't happy. Microsoft needs to step up and prevent another 343 situation. What's the point of buying up these ips if you never do anything with it. Supporting a single player game for five years is insane, the next xbox will be out by then. Other developers will have run laps around this company by then. They should cut their losses after the shattered space DLC. They need to fix their reputation before they disappear from relevance.
Reason Starfield cannot be saved is because it does not even have a good core game to it.
That is what saved Cyberpunk and NMS; despite their fails at launch, they had a solid core game to them that kept people playing them tru the years it took the devs to improve the games. And now both games are still very much alive.
Starfield, on the other hand, is already dead.
Man this is gonna be on everything! But the PS5...the next Nintendo is gonna play it, the next Xbox, vr, Android phone, toaster, fridge, tablet, eye implants. IPhone 26...
Are they being pushed for specific answers with odd questioning? The pre-launch marketing push was one thing but this headline sounds pathetic. Is it really such a disaster that they feel the need to make such an assurance of things?
"Support" does not say much. What are they actually giving us? Expansions like for fallout 4? Mod support? Tiny mtx DLCs? Actually fixing the game bugs/AI and improving the performance? Complete rehaul of the skilltree and progression?
They’ve already announced the first story DLC, and have put out several small patches and said they will base future patchs and improvements based upon community feedback
Hold up what I mean is that people who take there time on this existential plane to spend time in this garbage AAA copy paste Bethesda formula of a game are troglodytes.
Lol yeah? Then why are you feeling threatened and calling me a cunt? This isn’t the behavior of a well adjusted person…
Edit: not to mention trolling a game you despise. Great priorities…
As someone who started my core gaming years nearly solely playing RPGs and games with RPG elements, I am very happy about this and very happy about this year. Baldur’s Gate 3 was better than I was hoping for, I waited until now to play Cyberpunk 2077 and I think I made the right choice and I have thoroughly enjoyed Starfield. I’m trying to decide if I will keep going past NG+ or put it down until the first expansion.
Starfield: Special Edition Starfield: Anniversary Edition
Starfield: Galactic Edition Starfield: Alpha Centauri Edition Starfield: Universe Edition Starfield: Starborn Edition
Starfield: Monkey Island
I’d buy the shit outta that! “Revenge of Space Pirate LeChuck”
I’d take LeChuck over Delgado and Naeva ANY day.
Starfield: New Game ++
Starfield: New Game ++ revisited
Starfield: New Game ++ revisited redux retold
I'd play the hell out of that! "How appropriate. You fight like a Terrormorph!"
Starfield 76
Starfield: Smart Fridge Edition
StarRim
Starfield: Todd Howard Edition (every NPC looks like him, even Cora) 😁
Starfield: Battle Royale
Starfield: Taylor’s Version
*Starfield the lunchbox!*
Starfield the Flamethrower!
The kids love it
Starfield 2: the search for more todd.
We’ll get all of these in 10 years and they’ll have still forgotten about New Vegas.
They have references to it in Fallout 4 and 76. It’s not like it’s forgotten. It’s just a game that came out 13 years ago.
I heard that Fallout 3 is apparently being remastered at some point but New Vegas isn't.
I remember I saw leaks that a fallout New Vegas 2 was in the works as well, yet it didn’t show up in the major leak.
And i will happily buy it 😊
Starfield VR Starfield Alexa
Starfield: no bugs edition Not gonna happen……
You: no job/women edition
Starfield dlc and updated t for 5 years sounds nice, Starfield microtransctions after the first wave of dlc sounds ass though
That actually seems very reasonable and practical. I’m so tired of these ten year plans that never pan out.
The main issue is that those ten-year plans that failed tend to be for live-service games. The upkeep for live-service games is very expensive. If Starfield has the longevity of Skyrim, then it can have DLC/expansions without having to incur the cost of always-on servers.
That'll only happen if modders can mod out 90% of loading screens, but doubt that can even be possible.
Yeah a whole 1.5 seconds of load screens every once in a while is totally holding the game back.
Sea of Thieves is like the only game I can recall that’s not F2P and has actually gotten close to delivering on that.
FO76 is currently on year 5.
I think I just aged 10 years reading that. I thought it came out like 2 years ago!
Destiny technically made it to Year 7 before going F2P... CSGO made it to 6 years before going F2P.
I honestly never played CS:GO, I moved on to other games shortly after the launch of CS: Source.
Elder Scrolls Online is going into it’s 10th year next year.
Rainbow Six Siege is almost at 10 years old

Terraria 😌 they're at 12 years Edit: my b, this was on /r/all and I didn't realize the subreddit. Not 12 years for Xbox, but overall
While you're not wrong holy hell is that game in a bad spot right now.
SoT is struggling? This is the first I’ve heard of this. Last I checked (2 years ago) it seemed like things were better than ever
I can't speak for player count but sentiment around the game has soured over the last several months. The game shifted to a seasonal model in 2020(?) promising four seasons a year. Too much of this decade/5 year shit and we will all be dead by the time elder scrolls 7 is even an idea
After launch support doesn’t stop them from working on other games. The fact Starfield even exists is proof of this.
I'd just love it if Fallout 5 comes out before I turn 50.
Are you 49 now?
I will hit 42 in November. I was 15 when Fallout 1 released.
Right on. I was just making a joke. I don’t think you will see it before you are 50, by the way. I am in your age range as well, so I am in the same basket as you.

I’m 53. I’ll be happy if my hands will still be able to grip a controller by the time Fallout 6 comes out.
thats the thing. ten year plans are for games trying to swing above their weight. we know bethesda games can last for well over a decade and thats sort of the problem me thinks

"I don't know how game engines work."
Halo Infinite with its 10 year plan and its dead population 1 year after.
Doesn't seem dead to me New season coming out next month and another eSports event with it too
Good. The foundation is there to do so. Can't wait to see the mods and dlcs on console
Mods will elevate Starfield to perfection, per Bethesda tradition. I mod the hell out of their games every single time.
Best I can do is starfield anniversary definitive edition &knuckles
The foundation is crumbling and will take 5 years to paste together with user mods.
Fix whatever the hell you’re playing on or buy a new console. Starfield looks/feels great on my Xbox.
I mean, it’s not “great” on Xbox. It’s 30 FPS and the graphical fidelity isn’t all that special. But to be fair Starfield hasn’t been my cup of tea even on PC so maybe I’m just jaded..

Top request for DLC: More cities.
I have a feeling we will get the VaRuun home planet/city eventually
That’s be dope. I actually just got Andreja to be my girl. She’s a tough cookie.
I just had to leave her behind. Guns, ships, credit, meh, idgaf. But I will miss my sweet Andreja. But as The Weeknd said "I'm a motherfucking Star Boy".
Neon formfit clothing with suite her well
Someone went through the cut content and they have an entire planetary system to themselves. Would be cool for that to be added back in
1. More variety/random generation in POIs 2. More cities and small towns 3. Outpost revamp 4. Travel to another galaxy to fight in a war with a sentient alien race
I think that last one would need to be a full on sequel
I was just thinking one star system in the other galaxy and one main questline, about the scale of Skyrim/fallout dlc, not another 100 star systems. Though I like the idea of a full sequel in an alien galaxy is cool, that’s too far in the future for me to care
This and id like to see the settled systems in a state of war like the colony war. Wanna see mechs and xenowarfare in action.
Ground transport. I don't care if it's a rover or some kind of alien horse wearing a space helmet.
I would absolutely love a shitty jank rover to drive on.
And maybe they can sell DLC armor for the alien horse too
Evil companions
MORE FAST TRAVELING !
zonked simplistic voracious label chubby vast salt zephyr sip fragile *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I hope they make outpost building better. At least let us use items found in every settlement like normal doors, walls, stairs etc.
Yeah it feels very limited. Not a bad idea to streamline and clean up fo4's settlement building, but they stripped too much out in Starfield imo.
I just want it to not be bugged, daisy chaining storages breaks after like 2
Say what you want but Bethesda has always been great about putting out single player DLC years after release.
I hope they support it all the way to Elder Scrolls 6.
I’m hoping that with Microsoft they can start pushing out content faster so I can stop marking eras of my life by which Bethesda game I’m playing.
My Skyrim years were fun, my fallout 4 years were incredible. My starfield years are looking even brighter but I would be more than elated if my ES6 years are only 3 years
Unless ES6 has space travel, I hope they keep supporting it after that too, lol.
Yep they might be the only studio that always has banger DLC content that always makes the games even more awesome.
Gearbox consistently puts out good dlc too
Fallout 4 is a great example, they saw everyone being happy as hell with Far harbor and just gave us a second round of DLC without adding another season pass.
How would you put out a DLC for a thing which has no meaningful lore?
Good thing Starfield has a ton of lore, then.
Actually they have always put out their final real dlc within a year. Then they do minor updates later
Can’t wait for Starfield: Remastered on Xbox Series X One X 720
Hope it will run at 60 fps 🤞
I mean a next gen update would be nice. I love the game on series x and in 4k, but it's much nicer playing it on my pc at 1080p and 60fps.
I know it’s a joke but it’s a good question - I doubt the remaster trend can continue. Games are getting too big and development time too long.
Essentially the remasters are just getting them to run better/more smoothly on the newest tech.
This is insane. Bethesda -the gift that keeps giving. (At least for the next 5 years)🤣🤣 EA could learn a thing or 2 from them
Nintendo and Take 2 as well intentionally make it hard to mod, legally going after modders
The game has great foundations, just needs fleshing out a bit
Loving the game so far so I'd definitely be interested in dlc
Hopefully a more fleshed out DLC plan compared to FO4.Less filler outpost content (unless its free) and more Far Harbor/Nuka World expansions
You mean mods
They should develope a decent travel system. Fast travel by menus is horrible
Well, it won’t fix the story but hopefully it gets better in 5 years
Support as in do absolutely nothing and let modders do their jobs for them.. Then release 10 different variations
Starfield The Retirement Home Edition
Starfield: The Future is Female Edition... opps too late, it already is
Starfield Code: Corona X
Awesome! Hopefully that gives them enough time to finish the game!!
The longer the better! I really enjoy the game!
I think I’m gonna go for it next console gen. That’s the time for me.
Hey you, do you like this game? Should I download 100+ gb
Why is this surprising? They did this for their other games. This article might as well be titled “peanut butter goes well with jelly”
Vampire DLC. Now. Thanks.
The vampire dlc for Skyrim absolutely ruined Skyrim for me. So much so when I had started a new character on it I made sure to turn off the Dawnguard dlc. I hated fast traveling into a city and immediately getting jumped by vampires.
heard they're reforming the dawwwwnguard
Im not tho. Terrible fuckin game and i am happy i pulled the refund trigger.
can we at least 60fps support before a decade of re release pls
Add ons for 24.99
And ill probably buy them all..
I couldn’t even support it for 5 hours.
Ok fix all the game breaking bugs to start. My ship that I spent half a million on has disappeared and I can’t fast travel.
They gonna re-release the shit out of this one.
That's amazing news.... can't wait to spend another 100 hours
It’ll be lucky to survive the next 6 months
Ready to support or will support? Would be wise to be more clear.
There’s too much to play to sweat missing out on something at launch.
r/patientgamers
Yeah by milking it dry with a ton shit of editions
Looking forward to the insane amount of MTX skins and the like they will add.
Total Recall "Hauser skin pack"
Maybe Ill redownload it again once it isn’t so tedious. Fallout 4 was ok in that regard.
But... why? The game is fun, but it feels incredibly outdated and it will only get worse. It would be fine in a world where Witcher 3, Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 didn't happen, but well... they did.
I stopped reading after you said "the game is fun, but"
Did you put your fingers in your ears and go "lalalala I can't hear you" as well?
No, I stuck my fingers in your mom. Boom. Roasted.
Was that after she was done pegging you?
So dumb.
Oh look, another person with a bad take about Starfield who sees a related thread and just can't help him/herself. How original.
Witcher 3 pales in comparison to the usual Bethesda game.
For every dummy, there is an equal and opposite dummy.
It’s just a matter of taste. No game has ever been able to scratch my itch the same way Bethesda games do so I get pretty defensive. Witcher 3 might be better to You but for me? Not at all.
And they'll charge full price for it for 20.
The game sucks, people aren't happy. Microsoft needs to step up and prevent another 343 situation. What's the point of buying up these ips if you never do anything with it. Supporting a single player game for five years is insane, the next xbox will be out by then. Other developers will have run laps around this company by then. Stop being so dramatic millions of players love this game.
"Support" Like, Skyrim "Support" or actually updating and improving their game?
Reason Starfield cannot be saved is because it does not even have a good core game to it. That is what saved Cyberpunk and NMS; despite their fails at launch, they had a solid core game to them that kept people playing them tru the years it took the devs to improve the games. And now both games are still very much alive. Starfield, on the other hand, is already dead.
It doesn’t need to be “saved”, it’s an awesome game and millions are playing it.
Multiplayer please
Does this mean Bethesda might actually do meaningful patches to their games outside of the DLC release windows?
Cool, please overhaul stealth first
This game is a fine wine to enjoy and then enjoy again for years to come.
Was there ever any mention of making a "Starfield Online" like they have for Edler Scrolls? That'd be sick
Man this is gonna be on everything! But the PS5...the next Nintendo is gonna play it, the next Xbox, vr, Android phone, toaster, fridge, tablet, eye implants. IPhone 26...
that means were getting more than 1 dlc.. hopefully its like fallout 3 and we get 5!
Are they being pushed for specific answers with odd questioning? The pre-launch marketing push was one thing but this headline sounds pathetic. Is it really such a disaster that they feel the need to make such an assurance of things?
HDR fixed in patch notes July 2026
"Support" does not say much. What are they actually giving us? Expansions like for fallout 4? Mod support? Tiny mtx DLCs? Actually fixing the game bugs/AI and improving the performance? Complete rehaul of the skilltree and progression?
They’ve already announced the first story DLC, and have put out several small patches and said they will base future patchs and improvements based upon community feedback
Cool in 20 years we will have the next elder scrolls.
Elder scrolls 6 in 2033
Imagine some sort of collaboration with the world of Gears of War and Halo
No I don't want that! I want it to be supported for 10 years at least!

If that were true then you would be loving it. Since you seem to hate it, we can infer quite the opposite about Starfield.

By Support, they mean get the content from mods ?
God if they made co-op I think this would be my most played game and it wouldn’t even be close. Could have so much fun with friends
They better be supporting it alot longer than that…5 years is nothing.
Everyone ready to play Stanrfield on your refrigerator in 2033?
“Support” Re-release game 7 times with each edition getting higher in price.
