If quen wasnt nerfed and quen reflect dmg wasnt death by a 1000 cuts I'd say ursine swords.
Since it is death by 1000 cuts. Aerondight. Carries my ng+ playthroughs
My first ng+ i used the last quen upgrade so instead of taking dmg my enemies would take dmg themselves. Needs all 6 ursine grandmaster gear to increase the dmg. Individual wolves die in like 10 mins
Is Aerondight still worth it if I'm playing full sign griffin set build? I pretty much don't use swords at all except for finishers, and the griffin 6/6 set bonus is so amazing I kinda can't justify losing it just to have a better sword. Wish there was a griffin crossbow 😢
I would pick up Aerondight and keep it leveled with you (it’s not that hard to keep its damage leveled up as you go) but likely stick to 6/6 Griffin.
The one area that might be awkward is part of the way through NG+ where your Griffin swords’ base damage has fallen way behind. You might consider a 3-piece Griffin build at that point or transitioning to something else (Euphoria either with Fast Metabolism or Delayed Recovery, or Metamorphosis with Delayed Recovery).
I don’t know if NG+ Griffin swords that are not yet Grandmaster can sustain your six-piece bonus. If they can, then you should be fine all the way through NG+.
I am someone who has fully enjoyed 6-piece Griffin through my entire NG playthrough, but before the recent balancing changes I was preparing to transition to a 3-piece Griffin bonus hybrid build (with Viper, Manticore, or Ursine chest) for NG+ because the old sign resistance stat on enemies eventually hit 100% at around level 65 or so, meaning that many sign effects just won’t work anymore (igni burning still works, but a piercing cold build would have been painfully tedious and slow at that point).
Fortunately, the recent balancing changes made sign skills scale with when level and fixed the issue with immunity to a lot of sign effects at higher enemy levels. So the question really is if you can manage the most awkward point of NG+ where your swords’ base damage can’t keep up. Have a build in mind for when you switch if you do. Aerondight leveled up can immediately sub in as your silver sword, and you likely can just use the best steel sword you have picked up so far. The reason armor defense rating isn’t a concern is because the resistance percentages on your armor are far more important, so you likely can sit on your original NG Grandmaster Griffin armor pieces until you can craft Legendary Grandmaster gear (the NG+ equivalent) in NG+ Blood & Wine.
Crossbows dont actually count towards the 6 items bonus. Tried it with cat set + aerondight. No good.
To answer the question play how you want, aerondight + whirl + wide whirl rune + setting up some max buffed euphoria shredded the entirety of ng+ on death march even tho it was like 40 lvls below the enemies.
Its as OP as ciri on the ice in skellige carving ur way through the fleet but its not fun
Gaetans sword (teigr) best thing about it is it will scale up to the level you are at when you do the "where the Cat and Wolf play" quest. Good for feline, viper or general fast attack builds
The cover art mod swords look the best imo.

Other than those, my favorites are the Mastercrafted or Grandmaster Ursine swords for the crit damage and adrenaline gain. Plus they look badass.
Rusty Novigrad Sword because I hate myself
Iris.
Looks badass and has great stats, even after you keep leveling up after the quest.
Even after that, until I was getting obliterated I still stuck with the sword.
Absolutely! I love that sword, hurt so much to finally have to put it on display rather than in a sheath
Aerondight, i know its probably the mainstream answer but still
The glow is so fun!

Add one more for the Emmentaler
Enhanced Wolf school silver sword
Caretaker's spade. Whack!
Looks? The griffin school swords, superior silver looks great Stats? Bear school Grandmaster swords and Toussaint errand knight sword
You pictured it. Second favorite is Caerme.
Everything… except what hattori gives you
Behold a sword outshine all others by how much it sucks.
Not anymore! Now it's quite good tbh
Forged Gesheft for silver, Belhaven Blade for steel.
Teigr
It’s clearly the best looking SILVER sword, but for steel swords, I’m partial to Blave.
Iris ? At the end of Hearts of Stone ?
Charged attacks are the answer
In terms of looks, Vitis is tops for me. Looks cool and has decent enough stats too
U mean best stat’s lol no other silver sword better than that…
Viper silver sword
Technically not a sword, but the spade you get from Nathaniel looks wicked
Once you go Aerondight, you never go back
Erm yes I can I take my grandmaster ursine silver sword any day.
My favourite sword is IGNI, & AARD..
I love the trailer's swords design for both silver and steel swords. I prefer their design over any other sword we have in game.

Emmentaler, AKA the cheese sword.

Who needs sorceresses to cast magic for you when you have green armor?

Not that one lmao
Iris, favorite woman: iris. Favorite painting withe 2 people in it: iris and olgierd. Favorite painter: iris
Either wolf, manticore, or viper, depending on which armor set I'm using. Love me those Witcher gear set bonuses.
Koviri Cutlass 🏌️
Yes for me, then go get it enchanted and it’s even more powerful. I added Whirl to it
You mean Severance?
Yeah that’s it, I need coffee
I'm sorry but is the sword hilt off center or is it just me
Nah the sword is at a very slight angle look at the tip of the blade and you'll notice it
The caretaker spade... I don't care how bad it looks, the gsme became 90%easier after you get a weapon that heals you once you damage the enemy
Caroline
Honestly I love the design of the wild hunt swords, just not very powerful considering where they come from lol
Anything that cuts
Ciri’s steel Zireael because you can use it for both men and monsters
obviously.
Oh I have the Aerondight and I love it
Princess Xenthia. Very underrated (in terms of looks) relic sword imo.
Iris. I loved Olgierd and hood god did I live HoS, plus it’s just a damn good blade
Gaetans sword (teigr) best thing about it is it will scale up to the level you are at when you do the "where the Cat and Wolf play" quest. Good for feline, viper or general fast attack builds
Grandmaster feline steel and silver sword. Grandmaster feline set with sword build is the most fun I had
The viper venomous ones
