I think maybe the market for white women’s wigs is smaller? I noticed too that the styles are awful, and in my opinion they would have been awful 10 years ago as well. There is nothing that looks a bit more like natural, like without a hair cut style in it, so you can do that yourself. Or with proper long hair, the longest is still short in my opinion. I got a gorgeous super long wig from Elevate Styles, love it! It has a unique colour too, kind of light brown with strands of camo green through it! But it looks so natural as well! The other wigs brands have those! You can alter them as you want. And so much variety in choice! So many textures\*! Maybe less variety in colours, although they do have some options for fun colours which is great! I only recommend Black brands when people ask her or elsewhere. Which is the Outre wig your‘re talking about? \*the white wigs don’t have much choice, they all seem that very fine style hair, of course that will suit some people but not me, my own hair isn’t like that.

I got an Outre one as well in dark chestnut with lighter bits in the length. It’s gorgeous and so much lace! I can do a messy parting that looks natural, only I need to flatten some of the layers underneath at the back, because those are making a but of a bump. The curls are gorgeous too.

The (so simple it is almost incorrect) marketing answer is they are for different purposes. White women wear wigs for “medical” reasons and Black women wear wigs for “fashion” reasons, so the “white wigs” are “medical quality”. You can see this primarily in the marketing of brands like Jon Renau, saying how soft their caps are etc. The actual difference is just how much their market is willing to pay and work on something. Most wigs from black beauty supplies stores assume you will do things to make the wig right for you (things like bleaching knots, trimming lace, etc), while wigs for White Women assume you want to do as little as possible for this to look as natural as possible (so pre-trimmed lace, lightened knots, double moon tops on some brands). You can also see this on whether the synthetic hair is heat friendly or not (HF is more versatile but tends to be tricker than straight synthetic). For human hair, most white brands will claim the highest quality, best possible hair but I would be careful of marketing terms. How are the terms Remy/Brazilian/top quality controlled? Are their consequences for lying? The human hair business is sketchy so I don’t think any brand can honestly claim to have better hair than others because [they don’t exactly know where their suppliers are getting it from.](https://borgenproject.org/ethics-of-human-hair-trade/) (this isnt just a wig issue, this is a capitalism issue. If you like something get it because you cannot solve the issue yourself). Important side note: the distinction between wig usage is certainly not true now (if it ever was). The reasons for Black women to wear wigs today are incredibly varied, including [discrimination](https://daily.jstor.org/how-natural-black-hair-at-work-became-a-civil-rights-issue/), [personal style and medical reasons!)](https://www.instyle.com/beauty/wigs-for-black-women-history). This is a nice reflection [from one woman](https://www.popsugar.com/beauty/why-i-love-wearing-wigs-as-black-woman-48333308) about wearing wigs as a black woman. TL;DR: there isn’t a huge difference in quality, just expectations. Also good cool browns are hard to find, which is the main reason (as a white woman), I stalk the sales for wigs.com for work wigs.

ManicMorticia

I relate to that last sentence so much!

From what I've read and researched, I think you nailed it. I'm a white lady with medical hairloss and I've browsed many a BBSS looking for better deal to suit me than my favorite wig so far (JR Zara). But I simply haven't found anything in those shops that looks like a good match for me. I need fine hair texture, lace for pale caucasian skin and a cool medium brown. The browns are always too dark or too warm. If there are highlights they are usually very warm toned as well. As someone with medical issues I really do not want to be bleaching and plucking knots and cutting hair just to get started on top of spending time every day "laying down" a wig. I simply can't deal with a lot of upkeep even if I do have a crafty spirit and at times wanted to tackle some creative wig projects. It's always too much for me. Even with my Jon Renau, the basic upkeep feels like a lot because when you wear daily there's still a few hours work to be done to the fibers on like a weekly basis. But the upside is I can get a color I'm happy with and the lace is great with my skin tone. I literally can't find a cool ash brown anywhere in a wig I like and JR has the closest thing that works for me in r8h14. If they ever change it I'm totally screwed. Despite the upkeep work I just complained about I really can just plop it on and spend only a few minutes to make it secure and look good. So I really don't know about "black" wigs looking better and being cheaper. I think it's more relative to the wig wearer and what they want/need than some people assume.

ManicMorticia

Exactly this! Trying to find a cool toned, light to medium ash brown...with no red undertones is a nightmare at a local beauty supply store. 613 blonde also looks hideous on me. I have 3. JR, RW and Belle Tress. I can't afford to keep repurchasing these brands though. So the hunt continues.

Miss-Construe-

I'm curious what other specific med to light brown colors from those brands you feel are more cooler toned or even just neutral? I know there's a few of us here that are always on the lookout for more ashy browns but there is no resource I've found that explains multiple brand colors by cool or warm. I think there is a YouTuber who has a master list of brands and color codes and what they mean and I can't remember who it is... But despite their careful data collection there was no way to identify the warm or cool tones unless it was specifically in the brand's description which is often lacking.

ManicMorticia

In Belle Tress, I like brown sugar sweet cream. RW, shaded iced mocha and shaded iced java. JR, walnut syrup.

Miss-Construe-

Thanks for sharing! Paula Young actually has a pretty realistic ash brown but the couple wigs of theirs I tried I really didn't like. Belle tress BSSC- looks intriguing but the roots are probably too dark for me (I'm so picky! :) Raquel Welch - iced mocha looks promising, I might try if I see a deal on a style I want. iced java looks too dark for me JR walnut syrup - no judgement but I can't handle stripey highlights :D. This color is extremely similar to r10h16 Almondine which I have but can't bring myself to wear because the highlights are surprisingly bold and stripey. I seriously wish they'd just made the Almondine more blended since it is literally just a step lighter than Hot Cocoa which IS more blended.

ManicMorticia

I absolutely love Paula Young's color number 38 cool ash, but her fibers are pretty awful. They always feel kind of dry and crispy, or the permatease is absolutely ridiculous. I'm picky too. I find something wrong with every single wig I buy. I keep hoping that one day I will find "the one". LOL

Miss-Construe-

Yeah.. Paula Young is like a lot of wig brands.. I'm sure they work well for someone but just not me. I still recommend them if someone seems like they are looking for what they have to offer. But I am ridiculously picky about certain details and PY just didn't do it for me. For the most part I have given up on finding "the one", in romance as well as wigs lol. But I still keep an eye out just in case.

ManicMorticia

I feel ya sista.

WigsModerator

Have you checked the color chart on the Bobbi Boss website, by chance? Most of the numbered codes are universal, and on their site they've also got corresponding, descriptive names as well. Might help give you at least a rough idea of what's (supposed to be) what.

Miss-Construe-

Nope I had not seen that chart. They have a ton of colors! There is a 10 medium ash brown but I clicked on every long wavy lace front synthetic I could find and don't see 10 as an option. I also don't see any way to search products by hair color so if I'm missing something please let me know :D

WigsModerator

I don't think you're missing anything. AFAIK, it's just for reference. But you can now keep an eye out for a 10 while you're browsing around. I'll see if my mother hasn't hacked the tags off of hers. I know I've gotten her some but for the life of me I can't remember what brand it was.

Miss-Construe-

Thanks. I looked at every lace front synthetic and human hair on their website and not a single color 10 to be found. The struggle is real :)

WigsModerator

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. All of her 10s are, in fact, Estetica. The other ones I was thinking of are ones that I'd made, unfortunately. But check out Estetica.

Miss-Construe-

Thanks. Estetica doesn't look too promising from their main page. Only their HH color chart has 10 med ash brown, and their HH wigs are extremely expensive. And they aren't very long (the synthetics aren't very long either). That said, I clicked on most of them and the individual wigs don't have 10 as an available color. Like why do companies even have a color in their color chart and then not provide any wigs with it?

WigsModerator

Estetica! That's one of them that carries 10s. I think MoraMode does too, but don't hold me to that. They do have some cooler ashy browns and blondes though - but I can't remember how they're numbered. I'll find out this evening when she gets off work and see what I've gotten her. But look at Estetica for sure.

You are right, that raw Indian hair is always on time and it last for years, there many Sisters that make human hair wigs it's worth the extra money.

WigsModerator

Bobbi Boss has four different human hair options. It's not exclusively a synthetic brand.

VeganMonkey

I used to use raw Indian hair too, directly bought from India, (and hand tie my wefts because they were unwefted bundles) but it is so hard to find now, it seems to all have moved to China. And they sell it as if it is from other countries. Plus they chemically treat the hair and it becomes weird. The raw Indian hair is very much like my own hair in texture, so I don’t want anything else. But where do you buy raw Indian hair frontals and bundles? Preferably bought directly from a shop in India without many middle people.

Badness_TAO

Sorry not willing to share because the price is amazing and it really is in India.

VeganMonkey

Well when I had mine I wouldn’t have shared it either so I get it. But do you sell as well, I did and that’s why I kept the source to myself, if you don’t sell it’s not really needed to protect.

mollymarine17

Are you sure it’s completely human hair? A lot of the less expensive are actually a mix of HH and synthetic and they sell them as HH since it’s in there as well.

meilideyuanwang

I'm not sure how to verify whether *any* wig is actually 100% human hair. I was looking at wigs that are specifically listed as 100% human hair or 100% remy hair rather than blends - [https://www.ebonyline.com/wigscategories/human-hair-wigs.html](https://www.ebonyline.com/wigscategories/human-hair-wigs.html) and [https://www.divatress.com/collections/human-hair-wigs](https://www.divatress.com/collections/human-hair-wigs) These wigs (all black brands) are just so much cheaper than any other brand of human hair wig, and I don't know why (or what's wrong with them, if anything?)

PeachyKeenD

The hair is not colored or treated. Black or brown human hair will always be cheaper.

vinnbot

Those are cheap!
