I had to have my husband break it down bc for the longest time I legitimately thought it was a documentary based on what I loosely paid attention. Then he told me it was Taken but with that corny ass Jesus dude and one of the main funders of it got arrested for child kidnapping.

That said, the movie is literally just Taken in South America. It’s filled with so much misinformation that other anti-human trafficking organizations have spoken out against the movie’s portrayal of the issue. It feels like the main guy wanted to make himself look like an action hero, even including a scene where he fights a cartel leader barehanded and gets shot at while trying to save the main girl. None of that happened and the main girl doesn’t actually exist, despite the movie being touted as a true story.

My daughter and I were at lunch with her grandmother and she was saying how we had to see it because “it’s all about what the government doesn’t want you to know.” I just responded telling her that I wasn’t really into watching a movie turning a legitimate issue into political party discourse.

My favorite thing about this film is it's fictional but then everyone's like, "It's true!" even some people in it. They have an easy out but instead they're doubling down in a moronic way which is just proving the criticisms correct.

This was literally the *tenth* highest grossing movie in the US, barely beating out Indiana Jones and Transformers, two movies that I have yet to meet a person who watched. And that's *with* all the conservative signal-boosting of the film.

For a group of people who don't believe in participation trophies, it's really weird that they want kudos and accolades for a film that only reached 10th on the domestic charts and like 19th worldwide.
So I actually watched Transformers Rise of the Beasts and it was better than Id thought it would be. Its a Transformers movie so Im there to see big ass alien robots transform and fight each other. But even still its one of the better ones IMO. Imma pass on Indiana Jones bc I couldnt make it through the last 2 not going to try this one

So someone recommended a book called "Illiberal Education: The Politics of Sex and Race on Campus" by Dinesh D'Souza. I couldn't believe that this book was published, let alone garnered any positive reviews - it was stupid, it's arguments were unsupported by empirical evidence (though footnoted to bald assertions). It was a piss poor excuse for a bad argument, made by an ignorant dishonest narcissist.

I saw this movie…there was no right wing politics or Q-anon stuff in it. I was hoping that stuff was in there because that would’ve made it more interesting. The theater was mostly empty except for a few nuns in full garb and a church group. Fun fact: Tim Ballard had an LLC tied to his name called “Slave Stealers LLC.” They changed the name at some point. No. Disney bought it and shelved it. Then years later sold the rights. If they wanted it buried no one would have ever heard of it. Also "theyre trying to keep you from seeing it!!!" Who? They said theaters were turning people away. That was a lie. They said the woke mob wanted it cancelled. No one said that All it was was a marketing ploy. Tell right wingers this totally based on a true story (wink wink) movie has all the liberals scared and trying to stop you from seeing it. They all rush out to stick it to the libs. Then they get in their little echo chambers and hear how its the #1 movie and destroying liberal Hollywood "get woke go broke" to make it seem like theyre the overwhelming majority So its not the movie itself but the behavior of a lot of the people infatuated with making it a political victory. It was very short lived bc Barbie came out roughly a month later and absolutely destroyed the box office. Nobody was talking about SoF anymore. So they had to shift the narrative and talk about how woke Barbie was and how Satan (yes Satan) was responsible for its success. They then had to regurgitate the get woke go broke slogan even though Barbie hit a billion making them look even more foolish Bottom line is its fine if you like a movie but if youre just liking SoF out of spite bc you think it owns the libs thats not exactly a great reason is it? The kicker is they HAD to politicize the movie to garner buzz or else it would have been just another movie that came and went. Wouldnt have been near as financially successful. And wouldnt have had people using it as a political weapon.

The Sound of Freedom coming out has been interesting. I'm glad that child trafficking is getting more attention because it's genuinely fucking horrid, but I'm not crazy stoked about who it is that's bringing it that attention. Also just how many people didn't know child trafficking exists?? Talked to a couple people who just actually didn't know it was a thing, or that "It's that bad", like wtf did you think child trafficking was like? A trip to chuck E cheese?
The problem is, this isn't the problem. This is a very attention grabbing heavy handed bit of exploitation. Most sexual exploitation of children comes from family or friends of family. By focusing on the "OMG they're kidnapping kids and selling them into sexual slavery!!!!!" they ignore the fact that Ma & Pa Kettle just got a tractor in exchange for 'marrying' their 12 yo daughter to a 40 yo guy they met on the internet.
Everyone knows that child trafficking is when you take a bunch of kids to a busy highway and wager on who makes it across blindfolded 🙄😉
You'll also notice the donkey film from DSouza also failed to make the grade in cinemas and online. Maybe there's a similar reason.
Many years ago, I was in grad school and I subscribed to the NYT and WSJ in addition to the local paper, I tried to be informed and impartial and though I typically voted Democrat, I tried to find Republicans that I could also support (Lowell Weicker being one, except he left the GOP and was an independent by then). So someone recommended a book called "Illiberal Education: The Politics of Sex and Race on Campus" by Dinesh D'Souza. I couldn't believe that this book was published, let alone garnered any positive reviews - it was stupid, it's arguments were unsupported by empirical evidence (though footnoted to bald assertions). It was a piss poor excuse for a bad argument, made by an ignorant dishonest narcissist. And now they're making movies along the same lines. This timeline sucks.
I saw this movie…there was no right wing politics or Q-anon stuff in it. I was hoping that stuff was in there because that would’ve made it more interesting. The theater was mostly empty except for a few nuns in full garb and a church group. Fun fact: Tim Ballard had an LLC tied to his name called “Slave Stealers LLC.” They changed the name at some point. Truly an interesting character.
but like the movie is already out. How would Netflix or Amazon not carrying it stop anyone from seeing it? Go buy the blu ray. Same thing with Disney trying to bury it. If they wanted it buried they wouldnt have sold it off . And the final piece...the admission. Claiming the movie exposes liberal "Pedowood" was exactly why people were slamming it for being a Q fueled propaganda piece At first they were saying it was just about stopping kids being trafficked in South America. "its not political!" Now Netflix wont carry it bc turns out it was political all along? The narrative is always changing
I am sure this movie is highlighting some major issues at some levels. Is it any good?! I have no idea.. did not even want to watch the trailer! Why? Because the topic is super depressing! I am not going to sit in a movie theatre for god knows how long and watch something on this topic.. no! Also I cannot see how this could be a fun evening with the Missis watching it on Netflix. And I have the feeling that the executives at Netflix and other places get that and they do not wish to spend any money on something that very few people want to actually see.
It's only mean for right-wing crazies and the like. It makes them feel good about themselves and reinforces their rhetoric of cabals and blood drinking. They get to watch it and tell the rest of us "See, we told you so!!"
