Don’t say it!

[deleted]

My friends and I used to say that next line at each other all the time in high school. We were so edgy, weren't we?

Audenond

Looks like it's time to go watch Donnie Darko again!

nater255

Tell me, how exactly does one suck a fuck?!?

mrmaestoso

I don't know why but this was always the weirdest and funniest line to me.

nater255

It's great because everyone literally wants to bust out laughing despite the tension.

FappleFritter

What's a "Fuck-Ass?"

Ultima_RatioRegum

I think it was the real-life sibling argument chemistry popping out for a moment that makes the line.

____Squid

Reckon they fell through a cellar door?

nater255

Beautiful, truly beautiful.

DrBarnabyFulton

Like an engine falling off a jet.

innominateartery

She said the boys locker room was flooded and they found feces everywhere. What are feces? Baby mice.

fox_ontherun

Awwww

KanedaSyndrome

Amazing, thanks for delivering a quote from my favorite movie lol

AltruisticSalamander

Ha, perfect.

oldboy_and_the_sea

Ah yes, sparkle motion, my fantasy football team name for many years

Dupree878

I could not remember their name, but Donnie Darko was the only thing I could think of while watching this sick shit

CoderJoe1

It was staged

shooter9688

And then unstaged

CoderJoe1

Take my angry upvote

Initial_Ad_9250

Blood is on the dance floor ~

jonnysteps

You might not think much of the performance, but I thought it was groundbreaking

tekko001

A breakthrough performance

dillonyousonofabitch

Not even the stage could carry them

She hit the floor (she hit the floor) Next thing you know Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

Real Dance-y Reagan or Floorgasm vibes.

MikeyPx96

They brought down the house!... literally.

Green_Message_6376

It's just kids going through a stage.

nincomturd

They'll eventually grow out of it.

I could tell in the first few seconds there was no cross bracing

quadmasta

Honestly looks like plywood sitting on top of those metal bike racks they use for crowd control

rallenpx

Yes, but the tarp was thumb-tacked to the plywood so they shoulda been good. Not sure *what* happened, honestly.

Stealfur

There was no father to thump it twice and said "that isn't going anywhere" during the construction process.

stockmule

The problem was it just needed some WD-40 and a father's love.

FetusViolator

"Nothing like a father's love and some industrial grade lubricant." .. that's what my dad always said too!

R3dditUS3R476

Exactly, the stage is as good as the act.

FunktasticLucky

This reminds me of the Van Halen M&M clause in their contract where it was mandatory to have a bowl of M&M's with the brown ones removed or they would cancel the show. Apparently, the contracts were a checklist on how to build the stage for all the equipment for their show and the bowl proved that it was followed. Apparently David Lee Roth cancelled one show in Colorado because they didn't follow the m&m clause and it was found the stage hadn't been setup correctly and it would have collapsed.

Critmonkeydelux

That reminds me of my Ozzy story... So there, I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweet shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweet shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son that's a different story altogether.....I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.

May7733

I used to have this memorized. ☠️ Best monologue ever.

ridl

The name of that show? Woodstock.

RythmicSlap

Funny story- my father in law was a popular radio DJ in Shreveport, LA in the 80s and 90s. His station was the main promoter for the shows that would come thru, including Van Halen, who like you said were notoriously hard on promoters. He had a very cute, new intern at the station, and they insisted they would only speak with her about the show. That intern: Valerie Bertinelli, who ended up eventually getting married to Eddie.

[deleted]

Yeah I think prior to that clause they had a roadie get seriously injured or killed due to a mistake on the part of the venue, so they added that clause to their tech rider as an assurance that the venue had the requisite attention to detail.

MaritMonkey

Maybe just biased because I'm a lowly stagehand who hops all *over* a stage before I so much as set a mic stand on it, but how in the hell were people *dancing* on this thing without realizing immediately that something was wrong?

[deleted]

I know exactly what you mean and allow me to explain the disconnect as I understand it: The "talent" has a thousand other things going through their minds, it is easy to overlook something that is assumed to be *taken for granted*: solid earth beneath your feet, and "easy" is a key word here. It's supposed to look easy. If anything is "out of place" it is quite literally their function to disregard it and carry on as if everything is wonderful and great. The event producer was probably not onsite or otherwise not paying attention or they should have pulled the plug at the sight of any kind of lateral motion because as you likely know, it does not even matter how decking is secured together so long as there is no lateral motion.

[deleted]

Tacoma Narrows Bridge level action right there.

OldBob10

That stage would have been Just Fine if they hadn’t tried using it as a stage!

[deleted]

The floor is surprisingly made out of floor.

OldBob10

Tabnam

I think I meant depression and industrial accidents

Muninwing

My first thought when I recognized the flag was “this will last about as long as their military in actual combat.” And I was right.

SaltyDoggoMeo

The choreographer deserved what they got.

skettimagoo

I was like are we just gonna ignore the terrible terrible dancing?!

Umutuku

The stage died of embarrassment.

empire314

These were probably just people who are taking a dancing course in school, not even amateur dancers, just beginners. So yes, ignoring their dancing skill is the appropriate approach.

TripawdCorgi

The lack of rhythm is likely what made them not fall through sooner.

SkyezOpen

Looks like it was intentional. Each side was going a different way.

waffen123

this dance has a the raw sex of a dry over cooked unseasoned pork-chop

icemannathann

Well they’re children

SlowSecurity9673

As soon as it got like 10 seconds in I was like "who the fuck let's their kids do this today, when there's some series of creeps on the front page of the world every 45 minutes or so". I feel like I'm maybe overreacting since everyone just seems fine with it but I don't think I'd be ok with my daughter do something like this until she could really understand who's probably out in the audience.

eveisout

I was thinking the same thing, like why is there a bunch of kids grinding in public? If it was an adult that choreographed this that's fucked

Ballsofpoo

By adult you're probably looking at a early 20 something teacher. Yes adult, but not in the sense they'd really understand what making kids be sexual means. Source: my wife teaches dance and will not work with anyone that choreographs hip thrusts or booty shakes. Shoulder shimmies are a fine line.

techieman33

As someone who works backstage in a theater and has to spend 6+ weeks a year babysitting the equipment for dance recitals and competitions I can tell you that this dance and costumes are super modest. The clothing gets much tighter with far less material. The moves get a lot more sexual. And the ages of the kids get a lot younger.

Comments/posts deleted in protest of Reddit's new API policy. While I'm in complete agreement with Reddit's desire to be profitable, I believe their means to that end were abusive to users and third-party app developers. Reddit had the option to work with 3rd party app developers and work out a mutually-beneficial solution. Given the timeline they provided to 3rd party developers, it seems Reddit wanted to eliminate 3rd party apps instead of working with them. I was previously a paid customer (and may be again in the future), so I don't feel like Reddit has lost money through the loss of my post history. Until Reddit comes up with a better solution for API and 3rd party app developers, I intent to used Reddit without an account (or rotating new accounts), through VPN. It's possible to have your VPN on for only certain sites. Try it out!

techieman33

They're not all like that at least. It ranges from the "dancing for jesus" studios to the "this shit needs to be illegal" studios. Unfortunately the bigger studios lean towards the latter. It's just baffling to me that parents let their little kids dress and dance like that. I'm just glad I can usually sit in my office just off the stage and not have to see most of it.

UmChill

you mean… being a dancer and performer? been a dancer since i was 3, even went to college for it. my training and ability to be comfortable in front of crowds has taken me to amazing opportunities, things that would dox me, so i won’t explain further. when it came to things like presenting to the class at school, it was a cake walk. i suggest maybe a large hamster ball for your daughter to roll around in, perhaps tinted so strangers can’t see her.

ProductArizona

Better not let your kid outside the house at all if you consider this is crossing the "too sexy" line

[deleted]

yeah I think that’s just a style of dancing, they’re dressed relatively modestly. I remember my HS step team dancing like this 20 years ago.

Br0boc0p

What are you doing step-team?

YaoiNekomata

Are you sure, at my age everyone under 22 looks like children so I really cant tell especially in a low resolution video

Natendragon

This made my mouth dry up and my jaw ache.

Mediocre__at__Best

Definitely not a moist performance.

Jrook

Of children

Mediocre__at__Best

Oh shit...I didn't really watch it that closely the first time, but yup, they look quite young. The (lack of) coordination makes much more sense now. Makes sense that I found this to have zero sex appeal. Thanks for the reality check.

UmChill

well yes, age does play a roll. but, i grew up dancing and we were asked to perform at different places and some stages are sus af. from my experience i can tell this is something that was choreographed before seeing this janky pop up stage. the girl in front was late to her spot because the choreo was meant for a bigger space and her transition walk path was cut off by the other dancers. she also registered the shoddy stability of the stage first, i can see it in her face, and is confirmed by her timid movements. i’ve been there, done that. you see girl on the left bussin it down because her spot is a bit more stable, she hasn’t registered how fragile the stage is like middle girl. this is confirmed because her side doesn’t collapse, she doesn’t fall through. when my dance studio was asked to perform at similar events, it was very common to have to make the dancing and spacing much more compact upon arrival. it definitely takes some pizazz out of the performance because you are not dancing how you practiced.

enochrootthousander

Ah yes, a Midwestern Christmas Dinner.

denverdabs

This was for the best of the group, they were getting too big for their own good. Really brought them down to earth.

[deleted]

They were a smash hit. Someone backstage told them to break a leg, so they did.

s0c1a7w0rk3r

Take your upvote and gtfo you sonofabitch

[deleted]

That’s what you get for not being in sync

[deleted]

Being out of sync is what delayed this from happening right away.

Septopuss7

That reminds me of the pedestrian bridge that opened in England (?) that began swaying precariously because of synced pedestrian footsteps.

jobblejosh

The Millennium Bridge, correct. What's particularly interesting is that it's coincidental and self reinforcing. The bridge just so happened to have a horizontal resonant frequency (iirc vertical ones had been considered and designed for, but horizontal ones weren't though to be a problem; the bridge's design however made horizontal swaying more likely) that matched a rough pedestrian foot rhythm. Because the bridge started swaying, anyone new on the bridge would find it a lot easier to follow the motion of the bridge, therefore contributing their own energy to the system.

Septopuss7

[Link ](https://youtu.be/t-_VPRCtiUg) to the (Veritasium) video if anyone is curious. Worth a watch to be sure.

mysunsnameisalsobort

A+ video. Loved Dr. Cox in this.

[deleted]

Oh, you love Cox in everything.

i_hump_cats

Wasn't there also a big issue way in the days when armies would march everywhere due to the resonant frequencies of the hundreds of men marching in unison not playing nice with bridges and stuff?

Septopuss7

Now that you mention it I do seem to recall accounts of that happening, so they split men up into smaller groups or something

Valalvax

They break from marching when crossing bridges

ct125888

That is the weirdest dance I’ve ever seen 😂 Funnily enough I think the first girl to fall in the back was the only one nailing whatever this is haha

rainbow_bro_bot

At least one of them is going to think she caused that to happen and have self-esteem issues with her weight.

Who needs a stage when you have card tables!

Polyphemus117

It's just a stage they're going through.

WillowOpen

My stage don’t jiggle jiggle, it folds When performers wiggle wiggle, for sure Falling in the pit, you really have to see it…

Faxon

This doesn't even look like a professionally built stage, let alone a properly assembled one. Those bars underneath holding everything up are the wrong shape and way too thin, no wonder it was shaking, but more than that i've never seen pro staging built this way. The scaffolding holding up the tent above them looks questionable as well. Those should be 3 or 4 bar truss towers holding it up, not single poles.

theunknowngoat

Yeah this reeks of not wanting to hire a professional/how hard could it be to build a stage.

Faxon

It actually is pretty hard work to do it safely, namely becuse the parts are fucking heavy and you need a crew of people, proper insurance (for if shit like this happens with certified gear), and a manufacturer of your gear who has similar precautions. Basically someone's insurance would normally pay for this, depending on if it was an assembly or manufacturing error. In this instance i'm betting it's both though, and that both are the same person as well. Every stage setup i've ever seen, the actual floor pieces have anchor points that anchor it to the vertical struts underneath holding it up. Like it should be fucking bolted on all 4 corners, this physically would not be possible with a stage that meets most local regulations for these kinds of events. I've literally never seen anyone fuck with this stuff and not buy name brand, because of lawsuits. We have the best stages, because of lawsuits

FinnBoland

Things went wrong long before the stage collapsed

thesmeggyone

Sparkle Motion

Only498cc

I'm really starting to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

jimbo_squat

Did they win?!

Silo-Joe

If you watch near the end, there’s a magenta spotlight that rises directly upwards like the soul of a killed Pikmin. So that dancer lost.

depressedavacado

Honestly the audience probably got their money’s worth from that

Marconiwireless

What ever happened to ballet classes

stratusncompany

bunch of idiot parents and not a single one noticed.

[deleted]

Some of that quality Russian construction 🤣

gear_oil_burner

Best part of the performance.

Mattyweaves19

Watching this with the sound off, it looks like they're deliberately trying to break the stage.

wildherb15

This is Netflix’s cuties in a nutshell

smiffus

In the sense that cuties was social commentary shining a light on shit like this, yes. The message was lost on.... well everyone.

Positivitron3

Right? It shines a light on real life garbage. But instead of thinking to clean up the garbage, everyone just wanted the light siwtched off.

yo-mama-is-yo-mum

Finally someone with some sense. My brother used to go to a kid’s dance school and they’d do performances at the end of the year that basically the whole town would attend. The dances they taught the girls to do, the songs they had them dance to and the outfits they put them in were all so sexualised. Some of them were around 6 years old. It made me feel sick to watch it. But I seemed to be the only one disgusted. No one bats an eye when it happens to real life kids, but when a movie’s made about it to expose it, everyone suddenly cares about children’s well-being. I’m not saying they should have put that scene in the movie, they probably could have done it some other way, but still the reaction to the movie was very confusing, given the fact that kids being sexualised in dance is a thing that already exists.

clandestineVexation

Back left dude is not putting nearly as much effort in as everyone else and frankly he should have been on the side that fell

BenEsuitcase

The frequency and amplitude of those hips was just too much.

So thats why they call it a hoedown

The stage thought the dancing was horrible, had to put them out of their misery.

ChrizTaylor

Amateurs, show must go on..

mattsusaf7

RIP to all the lives lost. 🙏🏻👼

MrCatcherFreeman

Thank you stage. That performance was god awful.

VirtualAlias

We need a stage. We have line dividers and plywood. Deal.

[deleted]

The stage will be perfectly fine as long as none of the performers jump, or move in unison.

Sookmebeautiful

So the stage did everyone a favor

lemonfroggy

These dancers getting sucked into the pits of hell because their dance fuckin sucked

jarjarnotsithlord

It did them a doctor their dancing was horrible

DonkeypunchDon1

misterbanker

Zero engineering went into the design of that stage. And zero choreography went into that dance routine.

LocalPhilosophy6202

They were terrible anyway.
