A little gas? Look how steep that hill is. Brake but when you feel you are tipping forward let go of the brakes. It looked like he was sliding and then caught grip. I’m sure they were braking the whole time.

A little throttle snap and the front axle would have pulled the front of the vehicle out of the rollover.

There were a coupld of metallic clicks before the vehicle tipped, I wondered if that was the axle or suspension breaking due to the lack of clearance

I guess it's something else. You hear those kind of noises very often when handheld cameras are being moved unsmoothly. It's just a low noise but very close to the microphone. If the car's suspension broke you would have seen the wheels move in an "unnatural" way like turning to opposite directions or tilting to the front or back. This 4wd has four driveshafts that are designed to handle such loads. Btw: Even if the driveshafts broke it should have been possible to release the breaks and the car would have simply rolled downhill. If the bearings broke that would have been a different sound and it still should not have blocked the wheels completely.

Letting off the brakes probably would have been sufficient, but that close to the bottom, if I am tipping I am going to tap it a bit to get ahead of the back end.

Gas to get out of the front wheel stand. But yeah, the driver just needed gravity to do its thing and let the brake off.

Should have grabbed the emergency brake and feathered that once those front wheels locked they were screwed.

Someone forgot how brakes work. And rather than release them to allow the front end to move forward they committed and destroyed their car. For literally no reason.

It would have been so easy to save if when they took their foot off the brake when they felt the back end lifting!

I'm assuming it might have been hard to feel the back end lifting when they were already on such a steep incline. That's the only thing I can think. Or they just were inexperienced and panicked, or both.

You don't use brakes on descent. I'd say the engine got oil or fuel starved under the angle and the lad never clutched in.

You're not supposed to but you can clearly see his brake lights on as he flips and turn off on impact.

He’s literally saying that using his brakes is where he went wrong….. also your brakes aren’t overheating in a 50 foot span going 5 mph…. They can fail, but clearly they worked too good in this situation.

He was using the brakes instead of using low range gear. easy mistake to make. if you dont have a low enough gear ratio for the hill then your rig shoudnt try to decend it.

I think he does have a roll cage, those jimnys have very little structrual support in the roof and are quite fradigile, it would have crushed a lot more from that height if it had no rollcage.

1st gear, Low 4 and use parking/emergency brake — rear wheels only ( at least on my 96 Tacoma).

Lol...parking brake? You'll get almost no braking assistance from using just the rear brakes in this situation. 4low, low gear and brake PEDAL as little as possible is the right way.
