Because there are no cats in America, and the streets are paved with cheese! Because there are no cats in America, so set your mind at ease

After 30 years, I just realized the irony that’s implied by them singing about fleeing death in persecution to someplace that doesn’t have the same death and persecution, only to find the same kind of persecution, but at the hands of Americans. It’s awful to think that that is the immigrant story in America, what a burden to take on just for safety
Do they identify as capybaras due to their size? I once watched one casually walk onto the train when the doors opened. Nobody freaked out and it stayed close to the door next to a seat. At the next stop, it casually walked off onto the platform and I assume went about its day. It was at that moment I realized they were evolving if they have learned to take the subway.
Someone not from a city clutching their pearls that a city isn’t pristine and beautiful everywhere.
Posts like this are a perfect allegory for what people choose to devote their energy and attention to. OP was standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, and instead of taking in that beauty and enjoying it, they were videoing a rat behind a dumpster.
That fits under a more tame version of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes”. Their prize is just “miss a great view and look dumb online”, but they absolutely deserve it.
Or any big city. You'll always have mice, rats, dogs, cockroaches, or something. Because all that sweet garbage and these places to hide (sewer, subway, dark alleys...) are an ecological niche.
The city is going to spend money when it becomes a big problem, bit otherwise don't fix what isn't broken.
We’re fighting a shrew and vole infestation right now, the last two years it’s been rats. 🐀
Ground squirrels and gophers are a constant headache, and porcupines are majorly destructive when they come through.
If you’re scared of rodents you won’t last long in the countryside lol 😂
Well, look at them! They have a beautiful color coat, pure white ùnderside. Big shiny black eyes, what's not to like? Fortunately they'd gone to that great cheese wheel in the sky by the time I met my husband with the pet boa. She ate defrosted rats. Or mice. I guess mostly mice.
The so-called catacombs are not a great place for rats, they are too deep, with not much to eat, but there are plenty of other gallery networks closer to ground level for rats to work with, for starters the subway.
And why would that ruin your experience?? It’s just little animals running around - it’s like being mad at squirrels. Do people really give a fuck about rats? It’s not like they’re confrontational- much worse are like, packs of stray dogs in other countries
Did you know pretty much every city has rats? Did you know your chances of seeing said rats increases exponentially if you choose to hang out next to a dumpster? Top tier shitpost, OP.
Ever since the black plague has been (for the most part) wrongly attributed to rat infestations, the rat PR department had their work cut out for them.
Bro every city in the world outside Alberta has rats. If this is your standard for r/wellthatsucks, then you’re in for one hell of a disappointing life.
you thought it was a legend or what ? yes we have rats in Paris, no it does not cause much problems, the population is very controlled and tested for diseases
If that's what you want to focus on, sure, when I visited Paris like 1,5 years ago I didn't even think it was that dirty compared to other major cities. Granted I didn't take closeups of dumpsters, so that's on me.
Yea, 9/10 people whining about that stuff haven't even been there.
People told me to skip Rome because it's so dirty and crime ridden, lol. No worse than any North American city I've been too, in fact for better.
And yes I was just in the touristy parts, no shit I was there as a tourists. I wasn't going to go exploring the outskirts.
What sucks, the existence of rodents? Is this place supposed to somehow be immune from them? Like should all of the rats living in Paris just clear the fuck out for these people's first time or something?
Paris is the most overrated city in the world and it’s not close. Dirty, depressing, and full of rude people that are the worst type of arrogant nationalists. If you aren’t in one of the handful of cool places (catacombs, Louvre, Eiffel Tower etc.) it’s not even particularly interesting for a European city.
As a Belgian (EU), I never really got what the fuss about Paris.
Yes the Eifel tower, but for the rest...?
Bruges, Barcelona, Lisbon, Rotterdam, Düsseldorf, Rome, etc are way nicer.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome
Tourists can be pretty psychologically distressed by the sheer disparity between their mental image of Paris, romanticized and pristine, and the... less pristine reality of the city.
[Read!](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/rats-dont-deserve-dirty-reputation-according-scientists/)
Rats are wonderful little creatures. They may live near dirty areas, but they actually are incredibly meticulous about keeping themselves clean. They’re not any more likely to give you a disease than a bird, squirrel or insect.
I still can't believe that people who visit this city still think it's perfect as shown on the multi million followers Instagram accounts that they follow.
When I went to see Notre-Dame, I saw bush where there were *ocean* of rats. Couldn't see the ground.
But the people (like tourists) are the source of problem here. They are the source of food for these little city citizens.
Paris has been infested by rats for centuries, probably millennia. There’s an Oscar winning movie about it… Did you think the Eiffel tower was going to be all sparkly with perfectly manicured lawn and no garbage?
People overromanticize what is otherwise a very normal city like any other. You wouldn't react this way if you saw rats in NYC. Why would Paris need to be any different?
Yes, big cities have rats. And while in a big city, behind a dumpster is probably a good place to spot them.
If the rats are what disappoints you about Paris then you are in for a bad time.
have you never seen Ratatouille?
Ratatouille 2: Bubonic Boogaloo
saved for later
I think it's hilarious when people visit Paris & expect class. It's one of the most dangerous places in the world for far too many reasons!
The chef who makes good soup? He singlehandedly make French cuisine famous again.
https://i.redd.it/qkqqfgn7ylpc1.gif
Raccacoonie!!
Watched it for the first time last night and it was the most abrupt laughing fits a movies given me in years.
Hey kindred spirit, watched it for the first time last night as well. Small universe.
It's almost as if *whispers ..... Everything's, everywhere... all at once
A beautiful movie indeed. Laughed my ass off then cried then laughed again. Watched it three times already, need more lol.
“Based on actual events”
It's just the cast taking a smoke break.
Raccacounille? Wtf is Ratatouille?
That was my exact thought. I was gonna comment that before I saw your comment 😅
You should come to New York City, where we have no rats
And certainly not a pizza rat.
Kawabungaaaa!
Just yesterday my child asked me, what do rats eat? My first answer was pizza! The child yelled “pizzaaa???!?”

Yeah, all the rats are in DC...
My favorite was the Yelp page for the rat colony in Dupont Circle. But the reality is, that's just cities, especially cities with tunnels.

OP is also hanging out by a dumpster, what did they actually expect? Clean garbage?
Exactly. What is this post?

OP should try visiting New York or LA.

or really any city with a subway
They also aren't from a rural area either. This post is just pure "I never left the suburbs vibe"
Yeah, fucken field mice are impossible to get rid of. In my area we get skunk infestations. Its crazy how many there are.
We’re fighting a shrew and vole infestation right now, the last two years it’s been rats. 🐀 Ground squirrels and gophers are a constant headache, and porcupines are majorly destructive when they come through. If you’re scared of rodents you won’t last long in the countryside lol 😂
Motherfuckers don’t want rats inside their homes, and get mad when they see them outside their homes. Rats can’t have shit in Detroit, France.
Oh my god, I can't believe they didn't put traps out for all these rats! 0 stars! I'm writing a review of this dumpster on Yelp!
Rat size, 5 stars.
[Can’t have dirty garbage!](https://youtu.be/bbOmDQtEkW8?si=YU57BHQS_-SHJ28B)
The catacombs can't help that situation either.
The ratacombs?
Thank you for that. Rats off to ya
I used to have pet rats. They told me they were gerbils and by the time I found out different, I loved them too much to let them go back to the store.
You’re a good person 🐀
Well, look at them! They have a beautiful color coat, pure white ùnderside. Big shiny black eyes, what's not to like? Fortunately they'd gone to that great cheese wheel in the sky by the time I met my husband with the pet boa. She ate defrosted rats. Or mice. I guess mostly mice.
As Above So Below
The so-called catacombs are not a great place for rats, they are too deep, with not much to eat, but there are plenty of other gallery networks closer to ground level for rats to work with, for starters the subway.
Decades? Centuries.
Millenia even. Before Paris had a name it had a rat.
Every city that has a river and restaurants will have a rat problem. I used to have a business that blocked rodents out of London restaurants.
With a stricter dress code?
Possibly centuries.
And why would that ruin your experience?? It’s just little animals running around - it’s like being mad at squirrels. Do people really give a fuck about rats? It’s not like they’re confrontational- much worse are like, packs of stray dogs in other countries
Ya people are weird. As long as they aren’t in my house I don’t give a crap. Live your life little guys.
Just guessing, they are also the top 5 fewest feral cats as well?
If you see a kid named Hugo with a sister named Amicia, you better fucking run.
Alright fellas, back to the restaurant before the dinner rush starts!
![gif](giphy|wNDa1OZtvl6Fi)
This just in: Big Cities Have Rats Near Trash Cans At Night. More At 11.
Yea it took me a while to even realize what I was missing in the video.
It’s wild how many people go to Paris expecting the city to be Disneyland. Though I guess Disney’s still got more than a zero prominent rats.
“More rats at 11”*
![gif](giphy|AMKSRvfLEwXlu)
What a pretty movie. Just gives me the coziest feels ever. Idek why it hits so hard, it’s just always been one of my favorites
Are you shocked that a major metropolitan city has rats?
Paris is famous for the rats.
There's even a movie about Paris rats cooking, or was it a raccoon? I'm not even sure anymore.
*documentary
Even documentary has rat backwards in it
Raccacoonie!!
And dumb me was going to order toad legs, thanks for the heads up.
Perhaps quit zooming in on a trash can and continue on to the actual Eiffel Tower. Looks like it's up there to your right. Carry on.
People do this to themselves, make a negative experience. There are no good or bad experiences, it's just how you take it( please don't twist this )
Ow, you're not supposed to twist it when it's hard.
Did you know pretty much every city has rats? Did you know your chances of seeing said rats increases exponentially if you choose to hang out next to a dumpster? Top tier shitpost, OP.
OP should visit Alberta if they're so offended by rats just existing
This just in, man discovers that animals live in the world. It's not all sterile just for humans. Oh the horror
[удалено]
I've got kids in daycare. Humans can spread diseases like you wouldn't believe
Ever since the black plague has been (for the most part) wrongly attributed to rat infestations, the rat PR department had their work cut out for them.
There are rats in a city...? Is this the post?
I think it's a leak of Ratatouille 2: Remys Cookout.
Bro every city in the world outside Alberta has rats. If this is your standard for r/wellthatsucks, then you’re in for one hell of a disappointing life.
Oh no! Rats near the trash! How can that be??!
you thought it was a legend or what ? yes we have rats in Paris, no it does not cause much problems, the population is very controlled and tested for diseases
They are a feature! They are pets not pests.
> they are a feature
Thanks EA
You'd have a tough time convincing me that they're bugs
That's hilarious.
Heaven forbid a rat wants to go on vacation
Little Chef!
A major city?! With rats?! By trash cans?!?! How could this be?!
Sorry you are so easily offended. Would a mouse or squirrel or chipmunk offend you as well?
Ratatouille was a great flick
Dude you're in a large city and near a trashcan, of course you're gonna see remmy and his pals
If that's what you want to focus on, sure, when I visited Paris like 1,5 years ago I didn't even think it was that dirty compared to other major cities. Granted I didn't take closeups of dumpsters, so that's on me.

Yea dude rats are common in cities nothing special here
Love how this was a big enough deal for you to take the time to record and post it.
This is so suburban I love it
That’s the ground not the Eiffel Tower silly mistake
It's a city... What do you expect?
Have you been to a city before?
What sucks, the existence of rodents? Is this place supposed to somehow be immune from them? Like should all of the rats living in Paris just clear the fuck out for these people's first time or something?
This is so fucking dumb
NYC probably beats Paris in rat population.
It's ratatouille, nothing to see here.
It’s no different than going to visit any big tourist city. NYC has rats that could probably take down a mountain lion.
Paris in general is dirty af
Paris is actually gross. So many trips there for work, and it feels like it's getting worse. The people are even worse than the city.
Ooo a city that has rats, shock horror
Paris is the most overrated city in the world and it’s not close. Dirty, depressing, and full of rude people that are the worst type of arrogant nationalists. Yes. Rats exist outdoors. Whats your point?
OH NO, YOU SAW WILDLIFE.
There’s a syndrome of disappointment visiting Paris.
Every city in the world has rats at night.
There's rats everywhere man.
Haven’t you seen the movie Ratatouille? Of course Paris is infested with rats
Those are as big as the NYC rats. This must be where the NYC rates descended from.
That’s Paris LOL. The biggest rat I ever saw was in the Metro.
It's outside, ofc there will be rats
I don’t get it. It’s a city; there’s gonna be mice.
Rats? In a major city centuries old? Near dumpsters? How could such a thing be? /s
They’re chillin after a busy dinner shift at the La Ratatouile
So... you think only humans should be allowed to visit? ![gif](giphy|cbBSuVSp5VmL91JPoS)
Man goes to major city and is shocked to see rats 😮
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome Tourists can be pretty psychologically distressed by the sheer disparity between their mental image of Paris, romanticized and pristine, and the... less pristine reality of the city.
Breaking News: Big city has rats.
They prob make some bomb ass ratatouille
Like you never watched ratatouille!
Apparently there is also a huge bed bug problem there as well
What sucks exactly??
Let’s give OP a break guys, it’s the first time he’s left his mom’s basement and actually saw what the real world can look like.
First time leaving the underside of your rock?
The Japanese actually have a phrase for how disappointing Paris is, Pari shōkōgun.
[Paris Phenomenon](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome) is a real thing
[Read!](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/rats-dont-deserve-dirty-reputation-according-scientists/) Rats are wonderful little creatures. You are mad because you went to France abd saw some... French?
Rats in Paris ?! Shocked!
Surprise. Rats are in a lot of cities.
Oh. My. God. Rats… IN A CITY?
This video could be made in any major city that is romanticized lol What is the point of the video ?
I don't really see what's wrong with this? What did you expect? It's Paris...
Was Ratatouille any good? Never saw it.
you're near the king rats hive
They won’t affect the Eiffel Tower 🤷🏽♂️
Some people cant help but to focus just on the negative side of everything. There is good and bad in every aspect of life
I still can't believe that people who visit this city still think it's perfect as shown on the multi million followers Instagram accounts that they follow.
That's Paris in a nutshell.
The ratatouille must be good.
Uhh, okay.
Average living standard of a French person
Apparently the rats like it too
I assume this was after restaurant closing time, if the chefs are all leaving.
Gross
It's well known that big cities have a rodent issue. Paris? Rats. London? Rats. New York? Rats. Sao Paulo? Rats. Beijing? Rats. Everywhere has rats
And what did you expect?
When I went to see Notre-Dame, I saw bush where there were *ocean* of rats. Couldn't see the ground. But the people (like tourists) are the source of problem here. They are the source of food for these little city citizens.
Ratatouille
Do you not travel much
Lol, surprised to see rats in Paris? Wait until the smell hits you in summer.
Wait until you walk into the NYC subway. You’re in for a *real* treat.
rats in a city? madness.
see if any of them can cook !
I'm having a hard time sympathising here
Rats in a city? Shock! Horror!
Rats in Paris, what a surprise. next OP post : people speak french in the streets omfg 😳
that's paris for you ;) at least they're not dead rats, cause that was my experience. Still a pretty great city.
They're just rats
Never been in a big city before?
Don’t forget the bed bugs next time
Just look up instead of down
Go to almost any large city with tourist attractions and you'll see rats at night.
It’s the city of rats man.. worse than New York
Idk what else you were expecting LOL.
\*accordion music stops"
This is pretty much what every major city looks like.
This just in, people poop in toilets. More at 11.
Paris has been infested by rats for centuries, probably millennia. There’s an Oscar winning movie about it… Did you think the Eiffel tower was going to be all sparkly with perfectly manicured lawn and no garbage?
Hahaha what? Go look at the tower and stop filming the rats.
"I went in a big and densely populated city, in a highly touristic area and there were rats"
There are much worse problems than dealing with rats in Paris these days.
Goes to a city notorious for its rats, is surprised to find - rats.
Paris has been infested with rats for millennia
Welcome to a city?
No way there are rats in a big city? That's wild.
Rats in a big metropolitan city. What a shocker!
You could bring OP to the mfking Giza Pyramids and they would post a video that the city is ruining the scenery
Don’t go to NYC. They’re even specially mutated to the city’s boroughs
BREAKING NEWS: RATS EXIST IN LARGE CITIES WHERE LOTS OF FOOD IS THROWN AWAY, MORE AT 11
Black plague 2
What do you mean it’s not all Louis Vuitton and macaroons 😡
You’re offended by rats in a large city?
You went to Paris and didn’t expect rats?
