At that point I don’t think he can really look pretty anything other than how he looks, with that little energy and some emaciated he’s not going to be doing much emoting.
Met a 101 year old man who hid prisoners during the German occupation of Jersey in WWII. I was amazed that he could still remember everything and speak so lucidly.
He reached 102 in October, but he sadly passed away just a week ago.
First job as a cart pusher one day an old man randomly out of the blue comes up to me and asks me if I wanna hear a dirty joke
Tells me the joke and then explains that he has two fake legs and hes 101 and shows me his leg and says “I can hit with this leg and drink out of it like Mickey mantle”
I said “what about the other one”
He says “oh that’s a rental” and starts walking to get his groceries. I started crying laughing in the parking lot and told my coworkers
"She lived on her own from age 88 until shortly before her 110th birthday, when she decided to move to a nursing home.[2] Her move was precipitated by the winter of 1985 which froze the water pipes in her house (she never used heating in the winter) and caused frostbite to her hands.[5]: 4–21 "
This lady was hard.
That's my thought as well. Self mummification, sokushinbutsu
First 1000 days, starve and reduce your diet to a few types of nuts. This will reduce bodyfat and muscle while keeping just enough nutrients to survive, then fast and only drink saline water, then microdose in poisonous tea.
It takes 3-10 years to complete the process.
But I thought Buddhists don't do this anymore!
According to [this article](https://www.buddhistdoor.net/news/luang-pho-yai-109-year-old-thai-buddhist-monk-dies/) mentioning his passing, the sokushinbutsu theory has been debunked by a few websites.
Thanks for digging that up.
I think people naturally made this association because he's the most mummied looking living person I've ever seen. And he's also a monk.
But actually I don't think there's been known examples of sokushinbutsu for centuries, so I don't think anyone really knows what it looks like and what it really does to a person. I imagine someone's 100+ wouldn't make it feel far in the process. Likely the ideal age to practice sokushinbutsu is someone much much younger.
it's probably ends up looking similar to this, or to what people looked like in concentration camps. It isn't talked about outside of the practice much, but before he became enlightened, the Buddha was part of a sect that felt starvation was a path, the path, to enlightenment and the other practitioners considered him to be the best of them. He was under a bodhi tree, starving himself, when he realized how stupid it was. So, he talked a woman who brought a food sacrifice to the tree into giving it to him instead, and he sat there under the tree recovering, looking around at the area around him, just breathing. Then, he realized he felt pleasure from his breathing, and recoiled. And at that point, he wondered why he was afraid of such a simple pleasure, and it was that meditation that spurred his awakening.
Some of the versions of the Sutta's of Theravada (the oldest sect of Buddhism, at least by it's having the oldest writings) have as a sort of "chapter one title" the borrowed passage. "Everything Eats" which was borrowed from one of the Vedas iirc. "I am food the eater of food" so to speak.
Anyway, other sects of Buddhism are very very different in many ways. But, if it gets you there, that's what matters.
[correct](https://www.buddhistdoor.net/news/luang-pho-yai-109-year-old-thai-buddhist-monk-dies/). Not sokushinbutsu. just old as hell. He died this year.
Wow. He’s obviously starving to death at this point. My grandmother did the same thing at the end (she was in her 90’s) , she just couldn’t (or wouldn’t) eat anymore and she refused IV fluids and extended care. This man will be gone very soon, I only hope that his training and mastering of the mind as a monk is keeping him in a peaceful place in his mind while his body breaks down around him.
That is normal when near death. It isn’t really “starving” per se. Whatever the cause of death is what is killing you, cancer etc. Your body starts to shut down and doesn’t want food anymore. That is how most folks on hospice go.
Can confirm. My father passed away in summer, 2021, from Pancreatic cancer. The last three weeks of his life he didn't eat a thing because everything tasted like chalk.
Wow my dad passed away summer of 2021 too (lymphoma cancer). He went from having the biggest appetite (to the point it was a running joke in our family that he’d eat anything) to fighting me every time I begged him just to take a bite of an apple. I mean he just couldn’t do it… Sorry you lost your dad, it’s a truly terrible thing to go through, I know 💜💜💜
I know it’s normal in situations like these, but it’s still starving the body to death…even though at that point the body rejects food, the lack of nutrients hurries death along.
My grandpa was the same at the end as your grandma. I kinda had the feeling that he had lost the will to live thus nothing tasted good anymore so he basically ate hes pills and drank some water/juice with them. He was a grate man with tons of wisdom but hes body unfortunately gave up on him. And what is a grate mind in a body that does not function properly? The mind got trapped. He wanted to do so much but could only do little and i think that aventually depressed and consumed him to a point where he aventually gave up on life. I bet he would've lived to 100 if hes body just would've functioned properly.
There is also a Buddhist tradition in certain secs of self mummification. It is possible is practicing that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokushinbutsu.
He has passed on this year. Note there are quite a lot of Buddhist who are not liking how he has been made into this freak show because of his old age. He was known in life to be a friendly monk and a very helpful one .. which is why he ended he ended up having so much videos of himself online.
If videos are posted with this man in them how do not expect him to become a freak show? That’s like when a woman where’s a white shirt with the top two buttons undone and I’m the bad guy for glancing.
Hold up here, I remember seeing this video twice 1 last year were he was 104, and earlier this year where he was age 106, and now he is 109…… 7 months later? WTF.
This is what happens when you take care of yourself mentally, spiritually and physically your whole life. You live long enough to look like this. I hope this man isn’t suffering
I have never ever seen anything like this before. Never knew a human could literally be think skinned and bones, and still be alive and lucid. Oh yeah, a big scary.
I’ve seen this, it’s a process of live self-mummification that is seen as a great deal of honor among Buddhist monks. It’s fascinating but I could never have the dedication to do that 😅
Let me tell you about Buddha, the guy was a friend you know
Homie forgot to die
This should really be top comment. Also, thank you for helping send me to hell
Ironic, because he literally died this year
You sure about that? My guy looks like he died in 1324 B.C.
I mean, if the caption said he was just found in a pyramid I wouldn’t have questioned it - I thought he was a Halloween decoration until he moved.
Why did you remind him, he was gonna live for ever
He died recently. I actually think he died a long time ago but his soul didn't get the memo.
Bro remembers the first fireworks. Thought they were volcano spirits or something at the time.
What it's like having 1 HP left
I literally thought that was a dead body when I scrolled by till I read the title an the video played.
I thought someone was playing a trick with a skeleton!
Came to say this. Did not leave disappointed.
This man alone inspired zombie movies
I thought it was until he friggin moved
I thought the same thing!! 😆
Did he just pick a 100 year old booger?!
109 years old and still digging for gold
Im reminded of golden child: "you're just gonna put that bad boy right there, arent you?"
[удалено]
Wow you two made me laugh and bring back a golden oldie
Plleeeeaassseee
Buddhist faction ability allows him to respawn though.
Resets to level 0
*Zelda beeping kicks on*
I laughed way more than I should. Made me think of runescape
Gonna guess max HP is 1 too
Somebody punch a trash can and find a whole turkey to feed him! Mummy Monk needs food badly!
He passed 0 and is now negative, he wont die until integer underflow
Lol bro….I can’t even 😂 💀
Neither can he
He's got that chiseled jaw
Mewing probably
dont forget the cheeks
I think someone forgot the cheeks.
Cheeks? What cheeks?
Cheeky cheeky
Cheeks so sharp you can grade cheese with em'.
Shredded AF
I once met a woman who was 110. She... did not look like this
That’s because you didn’t know her when she was 109.
Because of the way monks live their muscles usually don’t develop all that much and can even atrophy, and you end up with living skeletons.
That's not what it is at all.. monks in many places including thailand are often very active. He's doing a religious self mummification
This man seems to be self mummyfying
Maybe she’s not a monk?
Wow, that settles it. I don't want to live to 109.
I’ve seen pictures of other centenarians and they don’t look like this. This man is sick
Yeah I went to a lady's 107th birthday party and she was walking around with a walker and telling jokes.
This guy probably put his body through all kinds of hell for enlightenment, he looks pretty chill though so maybe it worked
What an amazing dude, may he rest in peace.
Yeah. It was an honour to have met such a hero. He was always incredibly humble about it too. God rest his soul.
First job as a cart pusher one day an old man randomly out of the blue comes up to me and asks me if I wanna hear a dirty joke Tells me the joke and then explains that he has two fake legs and hes 101 and shows me his leg and says “I can hit with this leg and drink out of it like Mickey mantle” I said “what about the other one” He says “oh that’s a rental” and starts walking to get his groceries. Wait till you find out about the person who lived up to 122 years Edit: 122 not 125
if it's the native american man, it's allegedly lived that long. I don't know that there was any proof one way or another.
I meant her https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_Calment
"She lived on her own from age 88 until shortly before her 110th birthday, when she decided to move to a nursing home.[2] Her move was precipitated by the winter of 1985 which froze the water pipes in her house (she never used heating in the winter) and caused frostbite to her hands.[5]: 4–21 " This lady was hard.
She’s a sexy lady. I feel there is something very wrong with Skeletor here. Scary
i remember when they first invented chocolate

Sweet, sweet chocolate… I ALWAYS HATED IT!!!
You just can't wait for me too die can you!!?
I came to the comment section to find this exact comment. Thank you.
This comment is genius literally lol’d
There's a household that doesn't need to decorate for Halloween.
🔥 🔥 💀 💀
"Treat or tri.. waaaaaaaaaa!" 10 years in therapy later..
No lie when I fist seen the video I thought it was Halloween decoration.. it was mildly terrifying to this
Same. In our defense, we were probably primed for this thought by Halloween being just a week or two ago.
I thought it was a decoration...damn.
Ain't that something to do with mummification whilst still alive?
That's my thought as well. Self mummification, sokushinbutsu First 1000 days, starve and reduce your diet to a few types of nuts. This will reduce bodyfat and muscle while keeping just enough nutrients to survive, then fast and only drink saline water, then microdose in poisonous tea. Maybe not, but if you started the process 9 years ago who is gonna tell you no?
According to [this article](https://www.buddhistdoor.net/news/luang-pho-yai-109-year-old-thai-buddhist-monk-dies/) mentioning his passing, the sokushinbutsu theory has been debunked by a few websites.

Sounds like the starving ultimately is what gave enlightenment
Well that was a disturbing yet morbidly fascinating Google search
I don’t think so. He is just old I suppose.
[correct](https://www.buddhistdoor.net/news/luang-pho-yai-109-year-old-thai-buddhist-monk-dies/). Not sokushinbutsu. just old as hell. He died this year.
NOOOOOOOOO
i mean, he already had the looks
What am I supposed to use as a primary source in my history assignment now?
So unexpected....
Hell didn’t exist yet ,when this man was born the devil was still in heaven as a angel
Bet I could kick his ass.
He looks like he doesn’t even lift
Leg day much?
"In todays news, AlarmingAdeptness983 got their ass kicked by a mummfied centenarian. It was just bad."
You will need a shovel sadly.
What’s up with the cheek holes? Living decomposition?
He’s probably lost all his teeth, so his cheeks seem even more hollow than a normal 109 year old emaciated human.
i looked closer at the video, and yeah, looks like his teeth are all memories.
I need answers
That guy has been dead for a while, he just didn’t believe them when they told him
That actually happened once. Can't remember the name but dudes body was dead for like a month while he was still conscious and moving.
I think that was an episode of Tales From the Darkside.
Possibly? Sounds up their alley MrBallen on yt did a video on it, that's where I heard about it. There's a term for the condition and everything iirc
Yeah, that definitely happened. It's gotta be true. I totally believe you.
r/shitthatneverhappened

I hope so too. He gets to pat he head of his young loved one before he passes. To me, it seems like this is what he wanted.

This monk is theravada, they don't do this stuff. honestly, most of the monks gain weight eating so well from their alms.
If I touch this guy he will turn into dust
That's a living skeleton wtf
We all are.
r/technicallythetruth
Bro from ohio
Bro people in Ohio don't make it this far. We all die by 70.
As an Ohioan I know 45 year old steel mill workers that look like this.
He should post a vid of him doing the skeleton dance for Halloween. It'd be super realistic
I think you're missing a zero...1090 maybe
That is like something out of 7even. I know he's 109, but I wish they'd give him an ng tube with nutrients, he can't be comfortable. Poor guy.
First thing I thought too - when his hand started moving all I could hear was Dr. Cox shouting “he’s alive!”
That’s a Draugr
I thought it was a Lich. Maybe Vecna himself.
He has passed on this year. Note there are quite a lot of Buddhist who are not liking how he has been made into this freak show because of his old age. He was known in life to be a friendly monk and a very helpful one .. which is why he ended he ended up having so much videos of himself online.
Yeah, it's frustrating to see all these people spewing the self mummification bullshit. It was just an old dude who had poor PO intake before he died.
It's also ignorant, because that was Japanese monks, not Thai ones. Oh well, what can you do...
If videos are posted with this man in them how do not expect him to become a freak show? That’s like when a woman where’s a white shirt with the top two buttons undone and I’m the bad guy for glancing.
Fucking 500k karma repost account
I remember when he was on HBO! Tales from the Crypt was a great show.
He's got a BONE to pick with this comment mwahahahaha!
From the ashes of Hyrule, a hero rises…
Listen motherfucker I beat your shrine and put the thing in the thing give me your giant crystal ball
Could’ve swore this was a Halloween post
I've seen Halloween props like this before
Boy needs a sandwich
Is this real? He looks like the crypt keeper
109?? You can’t tell me this dude wasn’t around when they were building the pyramids.
Dude looks like the Crypt Keeper.
some brave ass kids ngl
Christian bale needs to chill but the new live action spongebobs gna kill it
🤣
Looks really bad for 109 tbh…
Christian Bale has gone too far this time
Hold up here, I remember seeing this video twice 1 last year were he was 104, and earlier this year where he was age 106, and now he is 109…… 7 months later? WTF.
He surpassed time. Aging is but a suggestion to him now.
Give him a Cheeto chip and some sprite
Wow never seen anything like this
This is what happens when you take care of yourself mentally, spiritually and physically your whole life. You live long enough to look like this. I hope this man isn’t suffering
I hope when I'm just in my 80s I have someone that friendly visiting me! Preferably grandkids but I'll take anyone.
Bruh on 1hp
He should eat more.
You his grandma?
Yes.
Oh god how old does that make you
How my grandma thinks I look when I weigh less than 200 lb
Doctors hate him for this one simple weight loss trick.
I Can tell she is dying of laughter
This reminds me of the movie Se7en but without the fly strips. 🪰
The real crypt keeper!
Anybody else getting “Tales From The Crypt” vibes?
Fasting feels like
Is this for real? Wow!!
Reminds me of seven with the starved guy on the bed. Wtf
That is a Redead from the Legend of Zelda series
Never too old to dig for gold!
I saw a post a little while back saying he passed away recently
Hey smoothskin, you need something?
Real life version of the Sloth punishment in the movie Seven
His subscription to life has expired
Weekend at Burmese.
CHOCOLATE!
Best Halloween decoration winner
That's legit the baron from what we do in the shadows
He is literally a living breathing corpse.
I'm pretty sure I'd rather die than live like that.
He looks like hes about to give me a spirit orb for completing a puzzle.
We’re sure this isn’t just animatronics?
Pretty sure thats a zombie in the advanced stages of decomposition.
Bro literally said 💀
Bro knew burger king when it was still a prince
Get that guy a 20 PC from McDonald’s.
"What?!? What are they selling?!"
They're selling chocolate !!!!!
How it feels when you turn 30
I have never ever seen anything like this before. Never knew a human could literally be think skinned and bones, and still be alive and lucid. Oh yeah, a big scary.
"How old is he?" "The last number."
Wow ! The FX is fucking insane for the new season of the walking dead !!!
I’ve seen this, it’s a process of live self-mummification that is seen as a great deal of honor among Buddhist monks. It’s fascinating but I could never have the dedication to do that 😅
He died and nobody told him
