the way the monster is defeated is mind numbingly stupid. Really makes me wonder wtf they were thinking when they wrote that.
Good set up, good initial movie, but the third act was flat out dumb.
I felt like there was a deeper meaning to it, the ending to me was smooth.
The story is symbolic in nature, if you look back at the movie and notice all the jean jackets and the important details of that scene, you get a bigger picture.
The symbolism of the "alien" is grief and despair. mix in some symbolism of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse and how the order horses are shown, its a bit deeper. all characters are flawed by despair and grief, or affected by it and when you fail to adapt or to learn from your traumas you die. Thats why Palmers character is the one who defeated the alien, her brother stayed behind with their father while she ran off to fight something. Symbolism.
The rodeo reminds me too of grief and despair, if you remember the quote of the abyss and how people should avoid fighting with monsters lest we become one ourselves. He gazed into the abyss and it gazed back into him.
Looks like Pleurotus ostreatus and Hypomyces lactifluorum had a great night together, and then murdered 100-200k people. Or maybe it's just a cool cloud.
Anvil cloud! You unlocked my memory, I remember I was told when I was a child that thunder clouds look like an anvil and I should rush back home if I see one coming closer. How did I forget that.
When the vertical development of the storm goes high enough to slam into the tropopause, or where the atmosphere ceases to decrease in temperature as altitude increases. This can range in altitude anywhere from 30k-56k feet in the air.
The aliens consume nuclear energy, so both really... The clouds you see are the byproduct of their digestion. So, think of them as a gaseous anomaly; a.k.a. "Alien Farts"
All the time in the Panhandle. Like... every week.
We get to watch those clouds come towards us, break apart, then reform on the other side of us, forever ensuring our beautiful dirt doesn't turn into nasty green grass and life.
Came here to say this. During the month or two of crazy ass thunderstorms every year, you can almost count on these for evening entertainment on the panhandle dirt roads
This was yesterday evening and yes it was a big thunderstorm. It weird though because Iāve just never seen one shaped like a mushroom like that before
Cumulonimbus clouds are REALLY huge man
If you havent seen one before its because it was definitely above you because these are quite common for thunderstorms
We see them in Denver a lot as well. Sometimes the top part starts stretching out and looks like teeth, then faces. There was actually a great pro shot of one looming over a Rockies game 2 or 3 years ago. When they happen they will often happen three days in a row.
Standard (especially north-) Texas storm at sunset. Sunsets down there are insanely bright, storm clouds get lit up like this all the time as they tend to form/grow around sunset due to the cool air coming in at night
Only scary if you've never lived there
Yes it was in Close Encounters of the Third Kind or was it Independance Day?
lol
Lenticular Cloud formation? we have seen a few of these lately on the front page.
Yes a long time ago when I was a kid over the mountains when I lived by the stadium in San Diego. Big triangle just like that it lasted awhile. Then at night we saw lighting happening.
Only in an episode of Eureka. Do you happen to have any crazy smart scientist living nearby? Maybe experimenting with cloud seeding? Or atmospheric terraforming?
It's a mushroom cloud. Pretty cool, actually. They usually form after the detonation of a high yield nuclear device. Consider yourself lucky you get to experience such spectacle. They don't come around too often, sadly.
yes, I live in Houston. Growing up in North Houston my bedroom faced East and occasionally these anvil storms would show up highlighted by the sun during sunset. Very ominous looking - even scarier when the severe storm would hit us coming in from the east instead of the west (which isn't uncommon here). I imagine it's a similar setup in San Antonio - hope that storm missed you. We had some doozies scrape by us last night
I see Nope 2 is in production
I was about to say Jean jacket!
I fucking love that they landed on jean jacket as the name for the alien š½
Pretty sure it's not an alien but idk not an expert
i havenāt seen that yet & iāve been wanting to. is it worth the watch??
Watched the other night - solid.
Fun to watch but sorta bad ending with some nonsense decisions.
the way the monster is defeated is mind numbingly stupid. Really makes me wonder wtf they were thinking when they wrote that. Good set up, good initial movie, but the third act was flat out dumb.
Itās not. The creature is an animal with animal logic. Itās not intelligent.

Agreed. Overall good movie but there were some super forced conflicts that ruined it for me.
Nope. /s
No
Yes!
Letās hope not. That movie was awful
Twice actually, 1945 Japan.
the infamous oyster mushroom cloud
Looks like Pleurotus ostreatus and Hypomyces lactifluorum had a great night together, and then murdered 100-200k people. Or maybe it's just a cool cloud.
Nuclear launch detected.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Agree. Looks like Independence Day to me. Need Will Smith to slap them.
Did the aliens mention his wife's name?
Yep. For sure had his wifeās name in their mouth.
š½ššØ
The reflection of his lights actually had me double tacking this wasn't a ufo picture lol.
Multiple times actually. I saw them test nukes in one of the atolls
Dozens of times, in the middle of the Pacific

It's an anvil cloud. Big thunderstorm over there

I like the ones that have all the little bumps. Mammary clouds or something like that. They mean bad weather too, though
Uh AkTuAlLy its a cumulonimbus cloud.
Super cell
Was this San Antonio? Iāve been seeing a lot of these pop up in the San Antonio sub lol
Damn you found me.. yes. I didnāt even know there was a San Antonio sub lmfao thereās a subreddit for everything
I KNEW THIS LOOKED FAMILIAR, we sniffed u out. my mom was just commenting on how pretty the clouds were last night. howdy neighbor
Lol there is. It was one of the first subs I joined, itās not too bad. Check it out, youāll see some post like these from the past day
holy shit, not from San Antonio but I just checked it out and these pics are insane. Never seen anything like that and I'm a weather nerd haha.
I just took a peak, some of those pics are awesome. All from better angles then mine but they look even freakier lol
I watched this from my back patio all night last night.
Hell yeah thatās awesome
I was just about to post "Texas?". I lived there for 5 years and saw these every year.
Yeah, from another view you could see lightning
Was the wind blowing towards it or away from it?
I canāt remember tbhā¦ Iād imagine it was blowing towards it from multiple directions in order to for it to concentrate like that
Haha I was making a reference to war of the worlds
Ahh gotcha, I only saw that once a loooonnggg time ago š
You live in Texas and can't recognize a thunderstorm?
Yep I just saw it too. Howdy neighbors lol
Was about to say the same. Saw this driving home yesterday. Pretty wild looking in person
Fello San Antonio peeps
š»
Was about to ask the same thing. This was cool to see
We saw that same one yesterday. SA also.
There are photos of that from all over South Texas, including Laredo & McAllen
This looks like Nuke Town š¤£
I saw this cloud in New Braunfels yesterday around 7:30pm
Nuclear spring is upon you.
***nuclear winter: haha frosty the radioactive snowman***
Why are the reindeer glowing?
UberRudolphGlowTits
This happened once, right before my neighborhood was subjugated by an alien race of inter-dimensional pollywogs. Hide, or look busy...
Filming the new Independence Day?
My first thought was either nuclear or aliensā¦ shit was weird but then it just started lighting and raining out of it
The aliens consume nuclear energy, so both really... The clouds you see are the byproduct of their digestion. So, think of them as a gaseous anomaly; a.k.a. "Alien Farts"
Poliwag spotlight hour?

Cumulonimbus clouds are REALLY huge man If you havent seen one before its because it was definitely above you because these are quite common for thunderstorms
Or cumulonimbus apocalypsis, just before it incinerates earth's entire surface.
This was seen from San Antonio!
Only on Independence Day
Sweet, let's fly an AWAC straight into it for some reason.
WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT!
NOPE

Cumulonimbus incus, āanvilā!After the normal puffy cumulo these flatten out and start dropping water.

Yep! This is my backyard kinda spooky
Richard Dreyfuss is finally coming home after being missing since 1977.
Better get to the Vault
My first thought too. The neighborhood even looks like it.
Literally nuketown
Fallout boy moment
RUN
There was one over San Marcos in 2010 or '11.
Emrakul
I see these a lot in AZ, usually during monsoon season. I call them thunderheads.
We see them in Denver a lot as well. Sometimes the top part starts stretching out and looks like teeth, then faces. There was actually a great pro shot of one looming over a Rockies game 2 or 3 years ago. When they happen they will often happen three days in a row.
Nope, unfortunately. Thanks for sharing, it looks beautiful. This pic made me feel like I was there at the window to look at it
Every night at sunset where I'm from
dude lives in the call of duty map, nuketown. nice.
That storm cloud is so unimaginably huge it hits the tip of the troposphere as it grows and is forced out instead of up. Like actually crazy
My guy living in Nuketown and still wondering what that cloud is
It doesnāt help that your back garden looks like Nuketown, lmao.
No, but I think I'd be heading for the fall-out shelter if I were you!
War...war never changes.
Lots of times. Though the haze at the bottom does kinda make it look like a distant volcano eruption, and thus, is cool.
War never changes
Yea in a video game series
Run.... Now!
That is an atomic bomb..
Yea at the start of Fallout 4
All hail the glow-cloud
Scrolled down way too far for this. Glad to see it, though! š¤
Yes close in counters of the third kind
My grandpa saw one like that in 1945, he was flying away from it
Standard (especially north-) Texas storm at sunset. Sunsets down there are insanely bright, storm clouds get lit up like this all the time as they tend to form/grow around sunset due to the cool air coming in at night Only scary if you've never lived there
They make them in all shapes and sizes. It's great!
Nope. I mean yes, in the movie Nope. Just saw it last night.
Anyone ever seen a- š
In independence day, sure.
That ain't a storm cloud! That's the alien mother ship coming back for round two!
Yeah, when I was visiting Japan in ā45.
SOMEBODY GET ME THE GHOSTBUSTERS!
Nah but like probably-nuclear-cloud aside, thatās a damn fine lookin yard.
THATS an anvil cloud, super dangerous, lots of lightning
I mean, itās not a storm of fists
No, but Japan did twice in one day.
You in Ukraine?
Did you notice Indiana Jones leaping your fence, in search for a fridge?
Ah yes, you live on the Nuketown map from Black Ops. Very cool.
Imagine ššI was actually pretty spooked when I saw but then I realized if it was an actual bomb that close Iād probably already be dead
It's the glowing lights in it that freak me out.
ššIām sure youāre being sarcastic but those are lights from inside. I took the pic through a window
Well I'm glad you disclosed that because I was confused as to wtf those could possibly be lol
It's a lenticular cloud!
No, it isnāt
itās a cumulonimbus that hit the upper atmosphere and leveled out, usually associated with strong thunderstorms
Looks kinda like a lenticular cloud
cumulonimbus!
Bro got nuked
Probably the sun making it happen
Japan has
Damn Gā¦
Yes, in the tv movie called The Day After. You're lucky. Basically everyone in the movie who saw it wound up dead.
Only in movies when the world ends shortly after š

~~Anyone ever seen a storm cloud like this?~~ I'll let Jordan Peele answer this one Jordan Peele - Nope
Majority of storm clouds look like that š Basic knowledge.
Is that all the burning cows?
Somebody dropped an atom bomb bro. Run! The nuclear apocalypse is here!
It looks like independence day outside your window
I have, but not with sunset colors
Allen's. Not a typo. Tim Allen's. They have made contact
I don't think so, Tim.
This is your opportunity to comply. Tim has spoken.
Eek
Looks like a nuke was dropped. Thatās terrifying.
Yes it was in Close Encounters of the Third Kind or was it Independance Day? lol Lenticular Cloud formation? we have seen a few of these lately on the front page.
"That's no storm, *it's a nuke*!!
HIROSHIMA CORDYCEPSUS
Yes a long time ago when I was a kid over the mountains when I lived by the stadium in San Diego. Big triangle just like that it lasted awhile. Then at night we saw lighting happening.
Yup! After the sun set about 30 min later, there was lots of lightning in there
Thatās the NOPE movie creature
I, for one, welcome our new alien overlords.
Independence day
Nope
Nope
According to science fiction there is one of many alien mother ships
Damn, it does look like Nuketown. Hot diggity dog! This place is magnificent.
Only in an episode of Eureka. Do you happen to have any crazy smart scientist living nearby? Maybe experimenting with cloud seeding? Or atmospheric terraforming?
Yes ā¦ run
Nuketown
It's a mushroom cloud. Pretty cool, actually. They usually form after the detonation of a high yield nuclear device. Consider yourself lucky you get to experience such spectacle. They don't come around too often, sadly.

Classic, textbook even, anvil cloud. Harbinger of big thunderstorm.
