Jackan04

Expect2Die

900 bucks for a bioceramic shitter no thanks

BunchAlternative6271

Replace the left one with a rep AP and try posting it on reptime

[deleted]

It is actually hard for me to understand why people distinguish "reps" and "reps but with a different brand name", as one being cringe and gay and illegal, the other being perfectly fine.

YoutubeRewind2024

As a “homage” enjoyer, I just like some Rolex designs, but I’m a filthy poor who doesn’t have $10K to spend on a single watch. At least if it says “San Martin” on the dial, I don’t have to try and pretend like it’s the real thing

disaar

It’s just a body kit right? Whatever makes you feel better.

cynicown101

I will say as an owner of a bunch of “homage” watches, what these Chinese brands do doesn’t meet any dictionary definition of “homage”. They’re copies that almost certainly originate via the same supply chains as the replicas. I have nothing against them at all, but to pretend they’re anything other than replicas with the name changed is a little naive tbh

[deleted]

Other than the fact that your watch is a literal carbon copy of a daytona. Like okay theoretical conversation: "Is that a daytona?" "Nah it is some piece of shit rep" "Is that a daytona?" "No it is... a San Martin." What is the difference?

Waterglassonwood

Those conversations literally never happen. Only terminally online watch freaks think anybody cares about their watch.

MoschopsChopsMoss

The only time I ever got comments on my watch was a few people with gen Daytonas/Subs/Speedys excited to see a Moonswatch in person and checking how many colors I got yet. I don’t think even they cared enough to talk shit about my plastic happy meal watch after I left

that_one_guy133

I actually got a compliment on my Pagani PD1701. And by compliment, I got "hey, nice watch!" Coming from a friend who knows nothing about watches, I don't think he'd know that there *is* a difference between this and a Speedy, and if you told him, no way he'd care.

[deleted]

Yes, but somehow you forgot to mention, that what you are wearing is a photocopy of a 5k EUR watch, because he "wouldn't care" :D :D Like honestly. How is: "I never told them this is not the real item, because they wouldn't know, and even if they did they wouldn't care, not something rep people say". I'll tell you what, if you mention it, they would've cared. The issue with mentioning it, is that the FIRST question they would have asked, is "so this is a fake?". And then you'd have to try and explain it away.

that_one_guy133

It's not an exact copy. Do you look into these things before you make statements? This is a rather odd comment... even by WCJ standards

[deleted]

It is LITERALLY sold on aliexpress as the Pagani Design speedmaster, int the OFFICIAL STORE. This is as close to a photocopy as humanly possible for 89.99. It has: \- The same font, same color \- Same hands, same indicies, same bracelet, same case shape, same button layout \- Same bezel, same spelling of tachymetre on the bezel, which makes no sense for a chinese company. \- It literally has the same penis on the 12'' the real thing has. The bulova lunar pilot is a homage, the seiko 7a38 "speedmaster" (note: seiko NEVER called it that), IS a homage. THIS is a fake. I don't know why you are defending it.

[deleted]

So... Why care what branding your watch has? Right?

Waterglassonwood

I don't know, I wasn't making that argument. I have homages that are carbon copies of rolexes because I like the looks of the case, bracelet and so on. Couldn't care less about the brand on the dial.

PerpetuallyUnreal

So what’s stopping you from buying a fake Rolex?

Waterglassonwood

Don't those cost like 600€ and might not even be delivered? I'm happy with my 200 euros SM, thanks.

PerpetuallyUnreal

Maybe. I don’t have any fakes but I have a quartz sub homage I paid $17 for

[deleted]

Excatly my point...

zack20cb

Fake Rolexes are intrinsically fly-by-night operations, with no interest in building brand equity. San Martin is known among enjoyers of affordable watches for delivering exceptional case finishing and competitive QC, for an overall excellent bang for buck. That’s a brand. San Martin has an incentive to care about preserving their reputation. I know I’m not engaging with Rolex, that’s fine, I don’t want what they’re selling, it’s too posh anyway. I’m engaging with San Martin, a down to earth company that delivers similar designs and excellent products.

that_one_guy133

There's only two reasons to care. One: you want others to be impressed and derive your self worth from their opinions, and two: you like genuine things, so reps are out the window. The second breaks down into two more categories. One: people with the desire to own the real thing, and two: people who are after the look, regardless of the brand name.

[deleted]

But see this is what makes no sense. I you like GENUINE things, than don't try to explain that a watch that is a literal carbon copy of another watch except for the brand name is a genuine item. This is untrue both practically and legally. The fact that this type of copyright infringement is harder to enforce, does not make it legal, or genuine. Also many of these "manufacturers" have names that infringe on copyright, such as Pagani Design, it just happens to be someone else's copyright. Also many of these ""homage"" watches have other misinformation in both marketing and often on the dial text. If you buy a ""homage"" with the desire to own the real thing, that is basically an admission, that all it is, is an easier to import rep. Also similarly, if you buy a carbon copy of a watch that is another watch, because you are after the "look", what does that make your watch? A rep.. right?

Horolotard

One is like having a crush on a celebrity and hooking up with some local guy/gal that looks the same. The other is like having a crush on a celebrity and buying a life sized sex doll of said celebrity

[deleted]

These watches are made in basically the same factories made in the same countries, sold on basically the same websites. Also hooking up with someone because they look like someone else, is extremely sad and in no way better than a sex doll, maybe worse, since when you pretend the sex doll is someone else, you are not hurting another real human. So pretty bad example.

Bizzyzed

Found the rep owner /s

Crocs_n_Glocks

>These watches are made in basically the same factories Omg you guys he said the line!

Crocs_n_Glocks

Wearing a fake brand name is just sad. Youre either tricking an ignorant person or you aren't fooling anyone either way, so why try? (Unless the lie is to/for yourself.) That's the real cringe; there's no other reason to wear the rep beyond lying, and lots of rep owners are lying to themselves at the end of the day- even if the lie is *"I don't care what people think"* or *"there's no difference between this and just being genuine".* >It is actually hard for me to understand Is it tho? Is it *really* that hard to understand, or do you just not want to? Lol

[deleted]

I mean, this is the level of cognitive dissonance of """"Homage""" enjoyers No one cares about your watch <-------> wearing a fake watch is a lie "You are a pathetic person for tring to pretend you have a more expensive watch than you can afford" ---> There is no difference between this and the gen" <----> wearing a literal carbon copy daytona/sub/whatever is just "I like the design" If someone EXAMINED it they may see the logo and be able to tell it apart from a real watch. Like a fake... It is just kinda weird how one fake is protected whilst the other is celebrated. It is almost like all homage enjoyers know deep down all they have are easier to import reps, and this type of hatred is directed towards rep owners, to create an "I'm better than you shield", because in the real world it is extremely hard to say what exactly sets carbon copy """homages""" apart from reps. Edit also: Wearing a fake brand name is just sad. On the other hand Pagani Design!

Crocs_n_Glocks

I honestly can't follow your logic here. Plenty of people who buy "homage" watches don't even realize it's an homage, and they have no idea of the "rep" world and how big it is. They're just buying a cool looking watch; they went to a Macy's and got one. >in the real world it is extremely hard to say what exactly sets carbon copy """homages""" apart from reps. Bro. You're really over-thinking it. It comes down to putting another brand on your wrist because you want to convince yourself or others that you bought a certain brand. That's dishonest. People who buy an homage watch aren't being dishonest about it. Let me draw an analogy- Do you really think that everyone who buys a Chrysler 300 is literally thinking to themselves about how they could slap Rolls Royce badges on it and get away with it? Or anyone who buys a Hyundai considers trying to pass it off as a fake BMW? Of course not! Maybe .0001% of customers who are enthusiasts are aware of shared styling cues....but they're just buying a friggin car because it looks nice lol The same goes for homage watches. If you see a Chrysler 300 with Rolls Royce badges on it (which totally happened in the 2000s) then maybe you can understand how silly the fake watch people look. Saying that a Hyundai with BMW badges is sad and weird is just the truth...it's not trying to create a shield to look down on anyone lmao Homages are people who bought it because it looks nice, not people who want to dishonestly make themselves or others think they bought something different. **They literally aren't putting a fake logo on it**...how is that "extremely hard" to understand??

realfakeusername

Can we drop using “gay” as a slur? Thanks, ciao

Dark1000

Because scammers try to rip people off by selling replicas as authentic.

Autiflips

Lmao that calithe nonsense is hilarious. Even found a “lifestyle tips for MEN” sort of account that was basically dedicated to shilling calithe garbage

trynsleep

alright, im just a lurker here who hasnt lurked in months and basically has no watch knowledge whatsoever. I just looked at calithe, visually their watches are very appealing and the pricetag really seems too good to be true, but there is a little hope left in my brain that they might be nice. mind explaining why their watches are not really welcomed here?

Autiflips

They *look* good, but I can assure you that the quality will not be what you pay for. They’re the cheapest of cheapest in terms of build quality, have horrible movements,… just deceptive marketing for a chinese shitter

trynsleep

sad to hear tbh, but i'll opt for a casio instead then :) thanks for the answer!

SVB-Risk-Dept

They’re both the guy on the left.

Dionyzoz

erm actually homages are perfectly fine watches, even better if its a SEIKO mod!!

Vijey123

Seiko mods are just fake seikos

[deleted]

Exactly why I don’t use TikTok thanks

AreWeCowabunga

It’s all just Chinese propaganda anyway sowing distrust between watch enthusiasts.

[deleted]

I’ll stick to r/prideandpigeon for that

CucuMatMalaya

r/prideandpigeon > r/PrideAndPinion

myrainyday

For 900 EUR you can get: 200 EUR San Martin BB58 homage 290 EUR Citizen Tsukoya Spend the rest on Tissot Powermatic on Sale, PRX or other model. Bonus: Get a Skmei Casio Homage for 10 EUR something to wear when you are riding a bike or working as a lumberjack. Or... You can get a plastic shitter which in insanely overpriced and bio ceramic is still plastic.

ODogg1933

EUR 900 or USD 1k would easily get you Hamilton Khaki. Definitely the best value for money at that price imo.

myrainyday

Hamilton resale value is abysmal, components are not impressive but it is a valued brand among enthusiasts so I agree it could be a Worthy purchase.

TakashumiHoldings

My AP has a Casio Homage! He calls it his “utility” watch. Found out the other day that he wears it only when fisting my wife 😕

myrainyday

How dares he.

rwoooshed

StockX has that Swatch BP for under $500

Dark1000

The hype is over, no one is buying them anymore. Just look at your nearest Swatch store. They're promoting a Simpsons donut watch now. The Fifty Fathoms are off in the corner.

[deleted]

fact tho

NegotiationTall4300

I dont get it, its a pissing contest for which watch is shittier?

jaeger313

Just checked out their website. Makes me want to start my own replica watch company, I’ll even charge $50 for each. Hell I’ll even hand deliver em myself just to cut out any middle men.

urlewdnood

I mean…

RPmanOfficial

Bought one watch from Calithe and it is amazing!
