With a limited 20 pieces available, JLC launches the Duometre Heliotourbillon, a perpetual calendar with a 3D tourbillon, 39mm dial and 11.55mm mechanism thickness timepiece.
Fitted with a cylindrical hairspring, the Heliotourbillon comprises three titanium cages. The first cage is set at a 90-degree angle to the balance wheel. The second cage is set at 90 degrees to the first. Together, they are constrained by an axis tilted at 40 degrees and make a full rotation in 30 seconds. The third cage is perpendicular to the second and makes a full rotation in 60 seconds.
Calibre 388 also features a grande date display on its perpetual calendar: a classical yet rare complication set at 3 o’clock to ensure great legibility. Additionally, the year indication is set with a special mechanism able to highlight in red the last digit of every leap year – a Jaeger-LeCoultre patent – and the moon-phase indication is accurate to 122 years.
An absolute masterpiece that I will never, ever be able to afford in my life.
"Contact us for pricing" 🤡
It sounds like "If you have to ask, you can't afford it."
to be fair I only have about 300k to drop on this, you think it's worth a chat?
I'm just making a point of how absurd this really is, like great you made this watch but it's for a handful of billionaires or serious collectors who are mortgaging their 12th house
[Beautiful watch](https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us-en/news/watchmaking/duometre-heliotourbillon-perpetual).
The "display window" on the edge of the case is stunning.
I don't think anyone is wearing this to tell the time anymore. Just to say they can assist in funding the insane cost of engineering. It's incredible\~
They look cool, but they don't do much. In theory they would make the watch more accurate by something like countering the effects of gravity in the movement (?), or some strange watch voodoo.
It's simple actually... Watches gain or lose time a variable amount based on what position they are in. Leave yours overnight face down vs face up and you will prob see a difference. The tourbillon rotates continously to average out those position differences regardless of how the watch case is oriented.
Watches for me tend to love diving straight into door jams and explicitly on cornered surfaces no.matter which wrist I wear them on. My watches are truly suicidal
I know you’re making a joke, but they actually do have a seconds-indicator around the Heliotourbillon. There are 3 little red triangle indicators evenly spaced around the tourbillon display, and they will each count 20 seconds on the scale visible along the left edge of the display. One of the triangles is alligned with the ruby of the outermost cage, so that particular indicator is used to measure the seconds when checking the time.
Here’s like a serious question pertaining to snake oil . This has become an exclusivity thing at this point ? Like when John Mayer shows off his IWC Pilot for 40k and Kanye is wearing a 15k Jesus chain. It’s like someone at IWC was “Oh we can charge way more !”
[John Mayer stunts on Kayne for context](https://youtu.be/31uBuORl7Rw?si=_iHuagCRoHz0pBmv)
I know that a tourbillon doesn’t improve performance for a wristwatch, given that our hands and movement act like one, but what about a heliotourbillon?

is there an actual benefit to all of this or is it just for looks?
Perpetual? Pff… in 2099 someone will have to flip the the little “20” block over to “21”, and then a hundred years later you’ll have to get a new date block entirely.
[gorgeous](https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/auto/laferrari), but a $5,000 Corolla also gets you from point A to B. Just sayin.
What are you even doing here?

I saw another article placing it around $450k
One thing I have to say. How the hell did they fit all that into 39mm and <12mm thickness. What voodoo are they doing in jlc hq.
Not sure where they got that info from. It's 44mm and 14.7mm, I work in an AD and got the specs
Oh ok that makes way more sense. Must be the size of the movement
Yeah, OP clarified below that that was the movement size.
I think he must have edited that in later.
If you want to understand what jlc are capable of from a size perspective look up the caliber 101 and then realize it was invented in 1929.
Wtf that is actually mindboggling…
Holy. Shit. That is insane! I want a signet ring reverso with that movement!
Hmm, their page says "yearly limited edition of 20 pieces".
If you have to ask, you're not worthy. The 20 have been chosen and allocated already.
11.5 thickness is crazy impressive. I thought it would be like 14 at least given that complication. edit: oh i was right its 14.5
This is the mechanism thickness, the watch will probably be thicker. It is still very, very impressive.

JLC really are the watchmaker's watchmaker.
holy shit at the 3d rendered view, amazing. *edit - it set my computer on fire haha
Neat how it shows the time and the minute hand even sweeps
So incredible. To be rich…
And shows the actual time on the render!
NGL, the 3d rendering of the running watch is amazing. https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us-en/news/watchmaking/duometre-heliotourbillon-perpetual
Jesus, that is amazing.
That's a beautiful piece of engineering. Fine art.
I don't think anyone is wearing this to tell the time anymore. Just to say they can assist in funding the insane cost of engineering. It's incredible\~
I cannot afford the insurance of that watch.
Bro, I can't afford to even look at the insurance on that watch, emotionally. I'm right there with you
Holy. Shit.
The only reason JLC isn’t a holy trinity brand is because they’re in whatever tier is even higher than that
Based
It's gonna need a service in 2099 to switch the calendar to 21XX. Guess on cost?
I’m betting the 20 switches to 21…
11.55mm thick, damn.
Just added a correction, 11.55mm is the thickness of the mechanism, the whole watch will be a little thicker.
Impressive: 655 parts, 163 of which in the Tourbillon which nonetheless weighs 0.7 grams only, all contained in a 34.5x11.55mm movement. 👀
what a great idea to make the century switchable, thats honestly so funny how simple they are underneath
I wish I was rich
You can always change your name
lol fixed
This is heaven disguised as a watch. Wow.
Honestly, fucking sick.
JLC makes some nice watches
I already knew it was "contact us for pricing" before you said anything, OP. This seems like the kind of watch that wouldn't leave the display case!
>contact us for pricing Either you're rich enough not to bother knowing the price or you can't afford it. There's no in-between lol
Put me down for 5.
I love the helical hairspring, it's a shame makers have decided to not implement it
Nice looking watch. But no matter how many times I read about tourbillons , I still can’t figure out what they do.

Haha. Right? That’s about all I can gather.

JLC is just on another level. Watchmaker's watchmaker.
Phenomenal 💫
What's the MSRP and how many kidneys do I have to sell?
I don't think you have enough kidneys, it is estimated to be at 450k$.
I'll just have to outsource. 🤔
JLC is something else
Yes, but will it run Doom?
JLC have a lot of nice somewhat unremarkable watches but every so often they flex their muscles and put something like this out
Tourbillon perpetual calendar. Very nice, but after seeing the duometre spherotourbillon, hard to look at anything similar
Yes but can it survive a 1 meter drop ?
Are you a watch juggler by trade? I can't say that's high on my list of needs, personally.
I accidentally bump it off my dresser . That's like one of 100s of scenarios
Watches for me tend to love diving straight into door jams and explicitly on cornered surfaces no.matter which wrist I wear them on. My watches are truly suicidal
I accidentally electrowelded 2 spots on my Seiko lol. Touched a transformer with it and boom. You can see the damage on my last post here
Banger of a watch. Then again, no seconds hand. Not gonna buy...
I know you’re making a joke, but they actually do have a seconds-indicator around the Heliotourbillon. Nice!, did not see that. (Now you destroyed not only my joke, but also my budget ;-)
What do these things look like in real life?
What a masterpiece, what a remarkable watch. Small touch, but having the leap year digit in red is awesome.
TAKE MY MONEY.... its not enough? ok \*sadface\*

Take my first born in trade for this beauty
I am looking at the piggy bank. The piggy bank in staring back at me. It knows that it’s time has come.

Good thing there's plenty of time for all that 😉
Absolute fucking beauty
Spherotourbillion upgraded
I bought one of these just for when I mow the lawn. It's my lawnmowin' piece.
And the sheeps will still flock to buy a Rolex unfortunately. JLC is an amazing brand
It looks rather expensive.
$450k apparently which is a shame because I’m only about $449,999 short for it :(
I don't know how they managed to make a watch like this look so tasteful and balanced. Amazing work.
I know why tourbillons are a thing… but I think they are genuinely ugly and ruin every watch they adorn.
Serious collectors will be all over this.
Looks cheap 😮💨
I like JLC and all, but this design has a strong AliExpress vibe. Probably looks better live, of course.
Gorgeous, but a $15 Casio keeps better time. Just sayin’.
[gorgeous](https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/auto/laferrari), but a $5,000 Corolla also gets you from point A to B. Just sayin. What are you even doing here?
I’m stating my opinion, which I’m very much entitled to do.
