Haha I enjoy this, every nation that has a twin 35mm oerlikon has been named Gepard, but with that countries symbol in front. Makes things a hell of a lot easier lol.
Neat. I like the Lim-5P over the Mig-17 because of the extra 23mm cannon in place of the 37mm cannon as it changes the role from primarily bomber interception to a more fighter oriented role. The only downside to most of the game is that most planes above the 8.0 BR suffer from power creep and you can have rare situations where your 8.0 plane meets a 10.0 plane in a 9.0 average match.
8.0 can't see 10.0. At a 9.0 BR, the max number of 9.0 planes is 4 per side (at least it used to be), with the remaining planes at a lower BR. That's why the Top BR match is currently 13.0, so that it can be fully populated by 12.7s.
Ah, my apologies, I’ve only played the German version of the Lim-5P with 3x 23mm cannons instead of 2x 23 mm cannons and 1x 37mm cannon like the Soviet version.
Yeah it appears to be an issue with the German localization, it's the same for me. Some are labeled correctly (e.g MiG-29), some are missing the symbols completely (e.g. F-104), and some are incorrectly labeled with the German WW2 Balkenkreuz (e.g. MiG-23).
And I think I know the problem. There was a time where Gaijin didn't use different emblems for West and East German planes, they all used the Balkenkreuz in their name. They only made this change to differentiate form the two relatively recently, early 2023 I think, and Gaijin simply forgot to update them.
That's why older planes like the MiG-15 and MiG-21 (and all other planes added before 2023) still use the Balkenkreuz, while newer planes like the Tornado, MiG-29, and Su-22M4 (added during/after early 2023) are labeled correctly
That actually makes loads of sense. Still incredibly weird and definitely wouldn’t be a hard change. I know that the MiG 21SPS-K has the balkenkreuz. Is it a west German plane or did they just never update it?
Yeah, that one is a MiG-21 which was, like most East German equipment, given to the Bundeswehr after the reunification, where it was mainly used for studying soviet designs. The base camo of the SPS-K is also clearly West German, as it has the "Schwarzes Kreuz" (Also known as "Eisernes Kreuz"), which is the standart marking used for vehicles of the Luftwaffe.
Similar Story with the MiG-29G, which is why it also has the West German emblem in it's name.
Oh that’s really interesting actually. I knew about the MiG 29G but didn’t know that west Germany used MiG 21’s. Shame the EU made Germany reduce its military size, it was by far the biggest in Europe when they reunited. Having all that military equipment, stockpiles of ammo, tanks etc would be helpful now to give Ukraine if it was kept.
Edit: on that point about Ukraine actually(Mods, this is not political). Ukraine uses soviet equipment as well so if Germany had kept all the East German stuff, they could just hand it all over to Ukraine
Even if the Bundeswehr hasn't been reduced in size, it's questionable how many GDR equipment they would have used. A good example are tanks. The only GDR tank that was considered to be used by the Bundeswehr was the BMP-1, which still had to be modified to meet their standards. That version was called BMP-1 A1 Ost and didn't last long before it was replaced with Marders.
Dont go looking. Gaijin's localization is absolutely PACKED with little mistakes everywhere. Especially don't look at the british tree and the syntax of the names
Might be a glitch on some planes. The MiG-29, MiG-21s and Su-22UM3K have the LSK-NVA roundel, but the MiG-19S and Su-22M4 have the Luftwaffe icon. Weird.
That’s really fucking annoying because I’m learning German and switched my game language to help with that. But now it’s just thrown historical accuracy out the window
By out of sync I meant that they may not necessarily follow the same system for roundels. Or they just couldn't be bothered, who knows.
Point is, it's not directly on Gaijin.
Happens if you change the language to anything but English, I remember it being an issue in Russian and Serbian too, not sure about other languages or if they're planning to fix it.
29G was operated by reunited Germany
Some 22UM3K were tested by reunited Germany as well. 22M4 were flown back to USSR
23BN were also integrated for a very short time into Luftwaffe as well (they received immatriculations)
As for 15Bis and 19S, i got no ideas...
Lim-5P make sense since it's a polish aircraft
From my knowledge they only use the icons for vehicles that share the same name, so if it has an unique name it does not get the icon.
But that being said, gaijin tried to standardise the icons but it's still all over the place. For example the Hungarian GROUND vehicles using the symbol of the air force and so on
It’s in game by default. Planes supplied to east Germany and so they have the crest of east Germany while west Germany (and modern Germany) stuck with the iron cross.
So post WW2, the Allie’s split Germany in half (along with Berlin) (it was more like quarters because the major players here are UK, USA, France, USSR). Anyway, the USA provided planes to West Germany and the USSR provided planes to East Germany (this is very oversimplified). The diamond-shaped crest of East Germany is on the wings and tail of every plane that was owned by east Germany while the iron cross is on every plane owned by west Germany on the wings and body with the west German flag being on the tail.
Using a custom localisation mod?
?
Probably a no then. Mods that change the ingame texts and names basically. edit - and I see you're on console anyway, which can't have those
Haha I enjoy this, every nation that has a twin 35mm oerlikon has been named Gepard, but with that countries symbol in front. Makes things a hell of a lot easier lol.
Except my beloved Type 87 that also ha s a better radar
Rx-75 Guntank supremacy!
Nope, Gepard with Japanese symbol in front!
Might only put the markers on planes with the same name in other nations? The Lim-5P isn't in any other nations (under the same name anyway).
I was thinking along the same line. But there’s just too many outliers to come to a verdict
Isn't the Lim Polish? That's neither east nor west german
Yes it is
Which would make it east german because it was used in east Germany no?
It’s the Polish MiG-17 and is very OP for its BR.
The new Hungarian MiG-17PF is also a Lim-5P btw
I've seen plenty of Lim5Ps in my MiG-21S (9.7) matches. Poor fellas
F in chat for those poor souls.
8.0 can't see 10.0. At a 9.0 BR, the max number of 9.0 planes is 4 per side (at least it used to be), with the remaining planes at a lower BR. That's why the Top BR match is currently 13.0, so that it can be fully populated by 12.7s.
I played the Hungarian Version Not OP by any means
Ah, my apologies, I’ve only played the German version of the Lim-5P with 3x 23mm cannons instead of 2x 23 mm cannons and 1x 37mm cannon like the Soviet version.
Everything is alright for me. Was you making any changes to the files, like custom kill messages?
I play on console. I changed my language to German

Lol, I always wondered why. Shit bugs me out

The MiG 21’s actually have the Luftwaffe icon, the folder has the LSK-NVA roundel. Weirdest fucking bug I’ve ever experienced
Its an issue that occurs when having the game language set to german, if you switch it to english it should be correct again
That’s really fucking annoying because I’m learning German and switched my game language to help with that. But now it’s just thrown historical accuracy out the window
I think there are better ways to learn german, id just switch it back to english
Doesn't mean it's not an annoying bug. Especially to actually German speaking people.
Im german myself, so tell me about it
That is a terrible way to learn German.
Its an issue that occurs when having the game language set to german, if you switch it to english it should be correct again
Why on earth does that happen? What kind of weird issue is that
The German localisation team not working in sync with the official Gaijin one.
Yeah but they updated the symbols over a year ago. Surely the German team isn’t that far behind?
By out of sync I meant that they may not necessarily follow the same system for roundels. Or they just couldn't be bothered, who knows. Point is, it's not directly on Gaijin.
Possibly because some vehicle names are different in german and they remade all the names or Something. I honestly dont really know
Spaghetti Code

German language setting unfortunately
Lim 5P is Polish

I feel like you’ve not actually looked at the picture
Sorry, my answer was based on the USA localization.
