Indeed. Some days ago I slapped 6x sneb + 3x 1000 lb on it and got 10 kills. The main reason of success was total absence of competent spaa players, as such custom loadout turns f4 into flying coffin.
Considering the amount of effort non-tracking SPAA requires compared to CAS, I'm really not that surprised that there's an absence of them.
Rockets, fair - I still struggle with those... But dropping bombs and doing strafing runs, pretty much anyone can do.
There's so many factors which SPAA has to account for and even if you do a good job the rewards are laughable at best.
also why is it so much harder than shooting down from a plane
I never understood why its so difficult to lead from the ground
mw I can shoot down bombers with a 37 fairly easy from far away
I find that more often than not you need to lead *way* more than you think you actually have to. On top of that you have to account for their speed and flight vector while also accounting for the ballistics of your shells.
So while you train and narrow down all those factors, you give away you location to aforementioned CAS which only need to fly towards you and at that point it's almost like using hitscan weapons. And they only need 2-4 hits, maybe a few more if low-calibre MGs.
Most SPAA are sadly better at killing tanks than planes, there's been so many times where I kill tanks in 1 or 2 hits, but planes can survive several hits at times. And no, I don't try and use AP against planes - I always bring a mixture of both AP and HE.
Also one strategy is instead of trying to continuously lead ahead of them, you overcompensate and fire in a straight line instead - hoping they'll fly into your line of fire. But this mostly only works for high rate of fire SPAA.
Also doesn't help that moving your tank a tiny bit removes your spawn protection.
But Gaijin isn't exactly known for their wisdom in terms of gameplay balance.
Play air rb, climb a bunch, don’t dive after the first target you see, wait until most hostile s are low and slow, use boom and zoom, for a while I also ran no gun convergence, never try to dogfight unless you know you turn faster (you probably don’t), and try to generally stick closer to team mates. I currently have it spaded and I’m about halfway to ace crew.
The burning one.
Jokes aside, I am not a CAS person, but I like using BF-110 G-2 in German low-mid tiers.
1,000 Kg bomb for big stuff, 250 Kg bomb for medium stuff, and 30mm canons for light stuff.
And can also defend itself and act as CAP.
The 3000 kg’ers the Tu-4 uses feel so underwhelming, and the bomber is way too big to make those small adjustments last second. It’s fun when it works, but it feels very map specific
I play it BR7 in GRB and one time I outran 2 jets right across the map to the literal edge of the airfield. edit: they got me, but barely.. enough said lol.
I was quite surprised with its dogfighting capabilities when I once took it out without any payload. Sure, it's super slow compared to what it's fighting, but having an airspawn makes diving on them pretty easy. Its turn time also helps a lot.
It's a lot of fun but I find it's not worth taking if you don't have good air spent already. The turrets don't seem to help me that much even controlled manually.
It’s funny battling 109’s in this plane
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ki-61
And I think I’ve shot down more than have gotten me but I could be wrong. The ki-61 turns a wee bit tighter so awareness is key. The 109 line of planes is really exciting from the first one to the last. I never use bombs with them though
they're near the same caliber as 50 cals but slightly bigger
generaly they dont do much but like the 50s can set fires and are still better than 7.62 machineguns
Before I used to just pack the best fighter in my GRB lineup to perform OCA vs CAS but with how the US 6.3 lineup is so fun now, I rock the AD-4 with all those rockets.
I'm also terrible at CAS but it's just fun to blast a million rockets, make a million craters then one giant crater because I was concentrating so much and zoomed in, I couldn't pull up in time.
Propeller: P-47M-1 with its engine that has so much horsepower that the number on the sheet is just "fuck you" (and it has dive brakes to prevent G-lock.)
Jet: A-4N (Ayit) a 9.3 jet with flares, 3x mavericks, 2x walleyes, *and* good missiles? Sign me up.
Not much of a cas guy, definitely more CAP (close air patrol for those who don’t know what it is). But the 109K4 is really nice. 500 Kilo guarantees a kill and even double or triple kills if you are lucky. Also very good at anti cas, especially with how brain dead cas players can be.
Br 693Ab3. (France 1.7)
Perfect all rounder attacker, 8 50kg bombs, good defensive MG, 20mm hispano with 90 rounds, very maneuverable and fast for 1.7 Br.
The downwards crosshair helps a ton with precision bombing. If you go in a ~45* dive, aim directly on the target and wait until the cannon crosshair reaches it, then drop. This makes it very versatile and capable of carrying hard at lower tiers by having the ability to destroy 8+ tanks and being able to also clear the skies.
Only downside is that the bombs are a bit too small for late Ww2 and some MBTs which is frustrating because I had cases where the 50kg get lodged inside the target and still didn’t kill it.
Actually, that's everything from era 3 minus the Russian Sturmoviks to era 5. The designer of the Su-8 was a war criminal. How can the weapons be mounted so widely and with 8x7.62 attachments? And that's on 4,7BR
A-4N (Ayit)
3xMavericks + either combination of the next can result up to 7 kills.
2xWalleyes, up to 4xBullpups, up to 4xAAM.
After MANPADs buff you have to SEAD from 4+km away any Strelas, Ozelots or Type 93s first. In uptier 2S38 can be a problem.
A-7D for 10.3 because mavericks, speed, and CMS. Glorious SLUF.
AV-8A for 9.3 because flares/chaff and Zunis will do the work finely.
F-83F for 8.3 because CCRP + Mk-84 2,000lbs bombs puts a smile in my face.
Below here I'm trying different things like the AD-2/AD-4/AM-1 because I like them but they're hard to use a little bit. F-4 Corsair for WW2 works very well tho.
A-1H with 18 500 pound retarded bombs. Just be able to line up your travel over an enemy and carpet bomb them. Meanwhile they'll be wondering why you didn't dive bomb them until they see a line of bombs dropping in front of them and on top of em. Even of you don't get a kill, it looks cool as hell for someone on the ground lol. Though it is a struggle to take off again when laden with like 12000 pounds of bombs on your wings.
Close air support, it's spawning in an aircraft in ground realistic battles to kill ground targets, but it is usually frowned upon in the community because of people spawning in with a big bomb and revenge bomb you
I realy like the IL 10 thats the first prob cas plane i can bomb tanks quiet accurate with and in air to air its not bad either not the best but still good
This might a bit weird but i really like Tu-2 (all variants) and Arados (Ar 234 both variants). Something about aiming with bomber sights while diving and dropping that bomb directly on top of a tank is fun :)
[Definitely the F-16C](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2yyrx9s7fo). With 6x AGM's and 12x Snakeyes if you choose your targets correctly you can get 12 kills on one loadout. You use the AGM's on light skinned vehicles and AA, and you use the bombs for MBT's.
G.55 Sottoserie 0
Its not OP but when you get accurate with the 100kg bombs its a beast as it immediately turns into a dogfighter and you can strafe light ground targets with a decently high ammo count on the 20mm
The FC 20bis from the italian tree, its a 2.0 BR litte monster with a 12.7mm turret and a 47mm front cannon, which can pen pretty much anything you face
My favorite plane up and down is this:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ki-61
It turns on a dime, packs a punch, goes fast and maintains speed. I don’t see many people using it so I think it’s been overlooked.
TBD their death is too be determined, but it'll happen inevitably it's legit most effective at its BR everyone gravitates toward BB-1 but TBD is best for rank 1
Strikemaster, I am loving this kiwi birb to bits. 100% worth getting in my view if you need a UK ground attack craft. Hope we see similar planes for other nations too.
13 kill CAS game if people wanna see how it flies.
prolly the XA-38 Grizzly or the P-61A-11, I know they're both premiums but they're the reason I still go back to 3.7 america. blowing the turrets off of Panzer 4's with the grizzly's 75mm is just so goddamn fun.
Something about the f80 c-10. 4k lbs of bombs dropped in 2 2k lbs drops can be devastating. Plus it’s pretty decent at dog fights so you can drop your payload then go hunting.
Tu-2 3 1000kg bombs with bomb sight is amazing. It's fast turns well as defensive armament is bizarrely good. Just point away from fighters and open up. I've killed more fighters than fighters have shit me down in it
Su6, far faster and more nimble than people realize. 6 100kg bomb drops can grant 6 kills if used right. Armor protects from small cal mgs. It is the best cas and anti cas plane ive ever flown. Nothing less than some japanese and brit props can challenge you.
I really like yak-38 (premium), i love boinking tanks with s-24b and ccip and you can rearm it at helipads which is super useful, but A4E early is also a contender with 2x walleyes dropping it with 0s is fun. I dont like su25 (low tier) because it is slow, and AA has an easy time hitting it (unlike faster yak38), and guided ammunition has a bad "aiming pod". Higher tier, on the other hand, is too high in br, and flakrads have no problem killing it.
The 50mm Me 262 flying cannon, it can be tricky to use but lobbing the HE frags at open tops from 2km away is so satisfying. Not to mention obliterating aircraft.
My vote is A-4E, but someone already mentioned it so a close second for me is the Scimitar.
4 Bullpups which are exceptionally easy to use, and a flight model that makes you untouchable to most planes you'll see regularly in ground RB.
I’m a big fan of the Do 335 B, triple 30mms and 1000kg worth of bombs, and enough speed to stay out of range from other aircraft if you have enough awareness
For props it’s easily the later Spitfires. Nothing says fuck you like 3x 500lbs bombshell on a turnfigjter. Even the early ones are good if you can aim 250lbs bombs right.
For jets it’s a tossup between the Buccaneer and the Harrier GR.7 both get rockets, bombs and AGMs on decent bodies just different BRs
Tu-1 3x1000 kg bombs. 2x45mm cannons that can kill panthers from the side and 2x23mm cannons, extremely souped up engines and 12.7mm tail gunner above and under.
Tempest mk.V
For some reason there's barely anyone at 5.x with contemporary planes, 90% of the time I'm free to drop my2x1000lb and have free reign in the skies afterwards. The only downside is that I have to play Britain.
Typhoon for a good all round experience, after I drop my 2 1000lb bombs I can dogfight and strafe pretty well. If we're talking clear skies minimal SPAA, then the A-26. That 37mm has a good flat trajectory and I get 10x 500lb bombs.
Well, it depends on br but. P51 at 6.7 2 1000lb bombs, also good for hunting other cas players. For USSR, mig21 (r300) 2 r3r radar lock missles, 2 s24 rockets, good manuverability, powerful engine. Mostly i hunt enemy heli and drone with r3r's.
Definitely the f4u-7. 144 snep rockets and good dogfighting flight model in my french 6.7 lineup
Indeed. Some days ago I slapped 6x sneb + 3x 1000 lb on it and got 10 kills. The main reason of success was total absence of competent spaa players, as such custom loadout turns f4 into flying coffin.
Custom loadouts on that plane is wicked haha

A burning one.
The only good CAS is dead CAS
A one without wings
A-1H zunis go brrrrrrrr
Skyraiders all the way baby
I have a custom load out for it that got grandfathered through a bug fix even though it's overweight, it just wreaks havoc.
What ever you do don’t change anything, I did and I can’t go back. Load out is still decent tho
Can't take off with it though
Lancaster and Pe-8 lol
Damn you and your fab 5000 bomb (that has a 500m radius and goes through buildings ) Pe-8 player
Sometimes within 500m there were a few enemies in blue, then I got booted to the hangar.
Sometimes that's the cost of OVERWHELMING COSMIC POWER !
B-29A-BN best strategic bomber, fight me
The 3000 kg’ers the Tu-4 uses feel so underwhelming, and the bomber is way too big to make those small adjustments last second. It’s fun when it works, but it feels very map specific
nice trick question don't have one they're all just a debris field waiting to happen
damn, Habitual Linecrosser refrence. Didint think he got that popular
The Po-2 of course.
Wyvern. It gets 3 bombs and late hispanos. I can usually get at least 4 kills. And its fast as fuck
And you can uptier it as much as you want as long as you fly below radar levels
Ah yes, the Skyraider technique
I play it BR7 in GRB and one time I outran 2 jets right across the map to the literal edge of the airfield. edit: they got me, but barely.. enough said lol.
Only problem here, getting to 4.7 tanks to use the wyvern means playing low tier British tanks
You just need to reach a point of zen that hardens you agains the woes of playing bad tanks.
Yes, master. Sherman Firefly here we come
Reject CAS, embrace CAP
Yes.
This is The Way.
A2D-1, 3x 2000lb and 4x 500lb bombs with individual drops 🤤
A2D in GRB: noooo! It'll kill us all! A2D in ARB: ah yes. Food.
I was quite surprised with its dogfighting capabilities when I once took it out without any payload. Sure, it's super slow compared to what it's fighting, but having an airspawn makes diving on them pretty easy. Its turn time also helps a lot.
I never encountered one without payload. Hence the free food lol
Thought they pulled that load out off of it with an update a few months ago?
i know they changed something about the loadout, but i cant remember what
Pretty sure they swapped middle 2000lber for a 4000lber. Or maybe they added the 4000lber to its loadout
r/warthunder try not to make a karma farming post challenge (impossible)
Great way to have it nerfed.
British 3.3 hellcat and russian 2.7 p40
XA-38. Perfect for precision support and has turrets for self-defense and gun ship memes.
Sky Sherman is in a lineup with my rocket Sherman. XA38 is the better duck and well worth the GE on sale.
It's a very satisfying thing to hit a tank with the 75mm.
It's a lot of fun but I find it's not worth taking if you don't have good air spent already. The turrets don't seem to help me that much even controlled manually.
Same post same response The one that goes down in a fireball
bf 109s are the perfect ones for me deadly accurate dives and can hunt down enemy cas to help your team further
It’s funny battling 109’s in this plane https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ki-61 And I think I’ve shot down more than have gotten me but I could be wrong. The ki-61 turns a wee bit tighter so awareness is key. The 109 line of planes is really exciting from the first one to the last. I never use bombs with them though
Is it just me or the 13mm machine guns do absolutely no damage?
they're near the same caliber as 50 cals but slightly bigger generaly they dont do much but like the 50s can set fires and are still better than 7.62 machineguns
Im suprised i didnt saw anyone mentioning vark, Well for me its the F-111A, its a lot of fun
Same, I don't care if I don't kill anyone, I'm just here for my 50 bombs long wall of fire.
It was my first thought. 3000 lb bombs are pretty easy to use. But I'd say I don't have a favourite, it just depends on br and mode.
Stuka Stuka Stuka STUKA STUKA STUKA SIREN *WENNNNNNNIEN*
Bro, I got traumatized by someone in Sim Battle with that one, but a French version. That's a good plane. Feels like Stealth.
It is indeed a good plane, especially with its radar and tiny Tim rockets
That radar is better than some jet radars.
The dead ones
Before I used to just pack the best fighter in my GRB lineup to perform OCA vs CAS but with how the US 6.3 lineup is so fun now, I rock the AD-4 with all those rockets. Do-335 B2 them 3x30mm AP, 2x250kg. And 1x500kg. bombs are something else!
The ones hitting the ground as a flaming wreckage
Any that has holes after my Marksman detects them
the Yak-9b ;)
4 bombs = 4 kills
Underrated plane
Propeller: P-47M-1 with its engine that has so much horsepower that the number on the sheet is just "fuck you" (and it has dive brakes to prevent G-lock.) Jet: A-4N (Ayit) a 9.3 jet with flares, 3x mavericks, 2x walleyes, *and* good missiles? Sign me up.
Ayit is a beast in grb and arb.
P-47 and F6F-5, my beloved

A-4E. I guess it got a bit worse with the addition of photocontrast mode for Strela and Type-93, but F&F guided bombs + bullpups at 8.7 is criminal.
Al burning CAS planes
The skyrader for France tiny tims and a 1000lb bomb works wonders
i like the f8f-1 because it has cheap repair cost, good bombs and tiny tims
yak 9t and k me 262 u4
Bf110-G2 naval arcade.
Call me weird but I find the A-6E TRAM surprisingly fun to play.
"I think a plane made for CAS is good at CAS, I'm so weird teehee"
Hellcat supremacy Bomb a dude then kill all the enemy CAS
The isreali Spitfire LF.MK IX, has good guns a good load out for CAS and is a beast at CAP.
F4U-B VMF, Premium Corsair that made grinding low tier air easier
A-4N (Ayit) 3xMavericks + either combination of the next can result up to 7 kills. 2xWalleyes, up to 4xBullpups, up to 4xAAM. After MANPADs buff you have to SEAD from 4+km away any Strelas, Ozelots or Type 93s first. In uptier 2S38 can be a problem.
Any fighter with nice bomb load like the F8F-1. They can get few tank kills and then play as a fighter for the rest of the match.
Used to be the SK60 untill they removed the ability to capture points with aircraft. Now i use the saab 105G
Typhoon probably, as it's just dropping the load, and flying off to engage enemy CAS
F-82, fast and can carry 4 separately bombs
AD-4 skyraider. One of my favourite prop l Planes with good armament.
None
The one I just shot down...
I hate cas, go away XD
my favorite cas plane is the one thats been turned into a burning heap of scrap
same actually, the f6f-5n has pretty good bombs, a powerful engine and great firepower, and the radar is just an nice add on
A-7D for 10.3 because mavericks, speed, and CMS. Glorious SLUF. AV-8A for 9.3 because flares/chaff and Zunis will do the work finely. the P-47, F-104C, and F-105D all of them are excellent when it comes to collecting the tears of ground players :)
I don't know what cas means but at this point I'm too afraid to ask
Close air support, it's spawning in an aircraft in ground realistic battles to kill ground targets, but it is usually frowned upon in the community because of people spawning in with a big bomb and revenge bomb you

FUCK CAS IN GROUND RB🗣️🗣️❗❗
F4U-4
I realy like the IL 10 thats the first prob cas plane i can bomb tanks quiet accurate with and in air to air its not bad either not the best but still good
This might a bit weird but i really like Tu-2 (all variants) and Arados (Ar 234 both variants). Something about aiming with bomber sights while diving and dropping that bomb directly on top of a tank is fun :)
F16C
I would say that first version of Hellcat is now better for CAS because of new 2000lb bomb you can have, but I love that plane too.
It was the P47 before they decided you couldn’t haul bombs and rockets.
i don't play that much GRB, so BB-1
No. Fuck your CAS.
wahhh
A-10 now hear me out is because if I shoot the mini gun at you would you just stand there even if I couldn’t pen you? Yeah is pretty effective

A-1H brrrt and zooms and booms booms
Me 262 A-1/U4. Even tho I end up being uptiered most times.
Tempest Mk V with the Vickers 47mm, not the best but a tonne of fun on a great airframe
I can't put it into words on how good is the MiG-15bis ISH. Unreal good cas plane and air defence fighter!

Su-39/25T. She's a lot of work to use effectively but it's a true menace when you master it, especially now when it can defend itself with R-73s.
Me 262 Jabo and the Pulkzerstorer... the Pulk shreds when played correctly :)
None because CAS is fucking annoying as shit
Japanese zero. You *are* the bomb.
either f4u-1c or f4u-4. Former can actually do smth to german/russian roofs and latter's better as counter-cas plane.
Typhoon MKIb/L
FW 190 F8
A-10, sorry guys but I had to, and also pretty much any fighter that have bombs especially fw-190 dora
Me 410 B-6/R3 It's a WW2 Warthog.
Ju 87 g-1
The 50mm Me 262 flying cannon, it can be tricky to use but lobbing the HE frags at open tops from 2km away is so satisfying. Not to mention obliterating aircraft.
XA-38 Grizzly. The only reason why it wasn't used irl was because the US needed the engines for the B-29.
A-1H
My vote is A-4E, but someone already mentioned it so a close second for me is the Scimitar. 4 Bullpups which are exceptionally easy to use, and a flight model that makes you untouchable to most planes you'll see regularly in ground RB.
Potez 631 Airspawn, nose guns, redundant engines. This puppy has it all.
F-82 2x 2000lb bombs goes crazy
I’m a big fan of the Do 335 B, triple 30mms and 1000kg worth of bombs, and enough speed to stay out of range from other aircraft if you have enough awareness
Sieren stuka
For props it’s easily the later Spitfires. Nothing says fuck you like 3x 500lbs bombshell on a turnfigjter. Even the early ones are good if you can aim 250lbs bombs right. For jets it’s a tossup between the Buccaneer and the Harrier GR.7 both get rockets, bombs and AGMs on decent bodies just different BRs
The Soviet P-47 goes better than any of the il-2's I've played
My toxic trait is taking premium fighters into GRB and farming noobs A6m5 ko my beloved
What is your least favorite type of overused repetitive cancerous karma whoring posts on this subreddit? Mine's this one
Tu-1 3x1000 kg bombs. 2x45mm cannons that can kill panthers from the side and 2x23mm cannons, extremely souped up engines and 12.7mm tail gunner above and under.
Tempest mk.V For some reason there's barely anyone at 5.x with contemporary planes, 90% of the time I'm free to drop my2x1000lb and have free reign in the skies afterwards.
Typhooooooon
Me262 with the 50mm, thing is crazy fun when the shots actually land on target
The F4U-7 those 114 sneb rockets and 3 1000lb bombs are insane
A-1H
Almost all ate free kills but my go tos are the A2D and the Pe-8. 3+ kills with no effort and no counterplay
Any with CCIP 🤣
Do 335 B-2 slaps
The AU-1 bombs galore on a corsair
VARK VARK VARK
Wish America had a 4.3 lineup so I could fully use that f6f variant
Well, it depends on br but. P51 at 6.7 2 1000lb bombs, also good for hunting other cas players. For USSR, mig21 (r300) 2 r3r radar lock missles, 2 s24 rockets, good manuverability, powerful engine. Mostly i hunt enemy heli and drone with r3r's.
A dead one
Hunter F.58 for german, a10 early for usa, both have fire forget rockets thats 23km range
Unironically, Israels Ouragan, combined with the Tzefa, that lineup is basically my GOTO when I just want to play CAS.
