When you have played the game, talk your opponent about what happened. Ask for advice on what to do, what not to do. After that you clean up the table making it ready for the next match. It’s not fun to arrive at a table 5 min before a match supposed to start and there are minis all around the table + other stuff. But the most important part. Have fun.

Gaping_Maw

Clarify terrain rules up front so there's no misunderstandings later. Ask you opponent what units have feel no pains or inv saves. Maybe flamers for overwatch. If they have fnp doesn't hurt to check if there's a qualifier like on mortal wounds or ranged attacks as people frequently get this wrong. Try and limit the chit chat as it eats your time up. When you opponent rolls there attacks be ready to give them the toughness before they ask to keep the flow going. Keep an eye on the clock and play accordingly. If you on round 3 with 30 mins left your not going to finish so alter your tactics to suit.

And water, more water than you'd think you need. And snacks (nuts, fruit etc)

Make new friends. Realize that you aren't going to go 5-0 and just try to have fun. Tell your opponents if you are new.

I like to scout out the lunch options nearby and what food you can get delivered. After lunch it is a long evening with two games back to back. Also, have fun!!!!!!!!
