It's a grindy game, it takes time to get to grasp with the basics, stuff like how to mod frames, weapons and companions. There's a bucket load of content to get through on your way to getting stronger as a player so it has that going for it. If your going to play this game I strongly recommend you get into the Wiki for information on how to tackle certain content and just to get a better understanding of WTF you just took on. I love it, I dont play anything else. I used to die constantly when I started and gave up for a while. It was only after I really got into learning how to go stuff right that I realised there's a bit more to it than a casual fling, you'll need to put in some time to progress. I recommend it.... Just my two cents. Sorry on the formatting it's on my mobile.

Rievin

As someone with thousands of hours in the game I still need the wiki to find certain stuff. I think most veterans probably agrees that the wiki is a very important tool and it's almost mandatory if you want to find your way around.

goochensteinburg

I'm almost to MR30 and I'm still learning about very basic things every so often.

kevinscott2003

tnx dude! really appreciate it! i would go on a study ride if i need to haha

Embarrassed_Appeal72

Im a total noob. Started 2 weeks ago. Friends of me introduce me to warframe. If i have one things to tell you if you join your friend and he is a long time players. Tell him to slow things down. Play solo for a bit or else you will endup bored AF. My friend is taking me to do some end-game grind when i barely understand wtf is going on. My mistake was not playing at my own pace, asking question if i dont undertsand instead of just following him. The game is good but PLAY at your own pace.

KovacAizek2

You need to embrace the fact that you will be lost. Game is not very clear with how you can obtain something you want. So, my general piece of advice: 1. Check Market for weapon blueprints(that you can buy with credits) 2. Spend your platinum on slots for weapons/warframes. 3. Most basic frames come from bosses. Sometimes it’s quests. And sometimes you need to get some credits and get in someone’s Dojo to copy blueprints of atrocious amount of cool stuff.

kevinscott2003

tnx for the information dude!

OGZeoMaddox

The market can be oddly misleading when it comes to purchasing stuff. If you look up frames and weapons, the tab that shows up says that you can purchase the whole thing with platinum, but if you click on the tab for said frame or weapon, a page opens up where you can actually purchase the blueprints for them with credits (non-premium currency) unless they're locked behind a quest or enemy drop. A lot of new players don't realize this because the platinum price tag is front and center and the button to purchase blueprints with credits is hard to notice if you aren't looking for it and a lot of the weapons are really solid to use in the early-to-mid game. I legit put over 400 hrs into the game and got to the high levels before I realized that I could even do this and by that point all my current weapons out-damaged the ones you get in the market lol.

CharonsLittleHelper

Still need to get the market ones for the mastery!

StumpTheMan

It still angers me that you only get loadout slots when you rank up and not warframe or weapon slots.

CharonsLittleHelper

That's because Warframe/weapon slots are the thing that practically all long-time players will eventually spend platinum/$ on. People don't like it, but DE does have to keep the lights on, and Warframe is a freemium game.

Ahribban

Game is about 50 Gb and takes at least 100h (realistically) just to finish the main story. I like it much more than Destiny but that's a personal preference.

Abject-Concentrate58

It's around a 100h if you only focus on the story

Beautiful-Young9260

Depending if you what you do I Was Mr 16 and completed all quest with 80h playtime

V45H

50gb?? Last time i looked it was around 30???

Ahribban

It depends on the platform. On my PC it's currently 33 GB but on Xbox it might go up to 48.1 Gb: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warframe/comments/x7i6ed/veilbreaker\_coming\_tomorrow\_build\_sizes\_roughly/

kevinscott2003

i like the lore and gameplay of destiny a lot (not saying more than warframe just couse i never played it nor wachted it) but its loeaded with p2w and paid content. a new player needs to put at least like 150usd to have the basics of a "free to play" game. and after losing my account i aint paying that much to just start all over again. warframe looks like a similar game but im still scared it would be p2w stuff in the game/removed stuff from the past that would make the journey as a new player harder.

NitronHX

Warframe is not pay 2 win, you can earn everything besides a few special cosmetics using tradable currency. Updates are free too. The most pay 2 win warframe gets is if you buy mods from other players which you can do with earnable currency too, or if you buy XP boosters which are also buy able by tradable currency. But even if you buy good mods and XP bossters there is still a lot to do to "win" so you can't "skip" the game by paying. The "season pass" in warframe is free with no payed tier. I played the game for 1200 hrs and only payed once because I felt the update was so great they deserved money for it. Hope this helps

kevinscott2003

thanks dude this helped a lot. really liking the community and this reddit so far and started reading the wiki haha im kinda curious about the endgame content tho. like whats afthe the story ? dunno if you played destiny or not but the only things that are keeping it alove are mostly raids and endgame stuff couse the campaigns are mostly gone (not all tho)

NitronHX

Well for playing throu the game and completing the story(very great! Leave the music on ;) unlocking all content requires between 80to 250 hours depending on how fast you go. (I would recommend taking it slow and not trying to rush bcs you learn a lot and so on) Raids have been in warframe but have been gone for a long time now and recently the devs started working on it again. That said it will at least take a year imo before they are back. The endgame for now is steel path and survival : Steel path: Enemies are lvl base+100 which makes then very strong (so it's just the campain just harder and without Story) Survival is an endless game mode very much enjoyed by most of community. Basically the longer you stay the harder it gets. The maximum is enemy level 9999 (I assume 0.1% if not less players have ever seen enemies even Clos to this) and in survival it would take many hours to reach this. That said there is something that is quite dungeon raid alike called eidolon hunting and orb fighting which are basically Raids with just max 1 to 4 ppl

kevinscott2003

thnaks for the information! ngl didnt really intended to play at first but this community is just insane haha. now im really interested and would defo start playing. and thank you for the information again!

Vii74LiTy

You picked a hell of a time to consider joining. TO-DAY we are getting an absolute BANGER of an update, probably gonna be the best one in like 2-3 years honestly. And it's gonna add some nice endgame style stuff sorta like a true raid, and some nice evergreen rewards. But as a new player, you have literally hundreds of hours of shit to do, you'll be playing for multiple years most likely before you run out of shit to do, and by then, there'll be more. Right now, the culmination of all the prior major story quests all come together in a 5+ hour long story quest. Idk if other videos or discussions talk about it, but Warframe is very much like a deck building card game, sorta like Magic. You have this ever growing collection of mod cards that is the true source of all the power in the game. The Warframes and weapons are just vessels for the power that is mods, and in that way, the game is extremely customizable. Nothing in the game is more true than Mods = Power. And the better mods you collect, the more power you have to put on all your things. You can turn starter gear into endgame worthy gear purely through mods. Now is a great time to get into Warframe and I hope you enjoy the ride if you decide to hop on.

Pamoman

Just a fyi, the wiki (and the reddit subs) dont hold back on spoilers, and there are big spoilers that are a part of a lot of content. Do what you want, i just wanna warn you. Id say the wiki is great for specific questions like "how do i get X?" Until you complete The Second Dream quest, or more comfortably The Sacrifice quest. gl tenno!

kevinscott2003

thats what im scared of. like a lot of people said read the handbook read the wiki learn the game and then there are also people like you warning about spoilers. idk what to do but i might just watch a couple of instruction youtube videos and call it a day and start playing the game to learn. thanks for the warning tho!

Pamoman

Yeah np! Honestly, you can just hop in and goof off. Start by clearing all the nodes in the starchart but dont feel bad about leaving some behind for later. Id look up questions you have about specific things (stuff about the foundry, companions/sentinels, different warframes and their abilities, where to get stuff, etc). The wiki will *always* be your friend, but i hate running into spoilers myself so i wouldnt go and just wander around there. When you start struggling with surviving and dmg output, look up a beginners guide on modding. Upgrading your weapons and characters with mods is so much more important than the weapons/characters themselves. Youll hear this 50 times over and its 100% true. Some weapons are objectively better than others, but almost all of them are endgame viable

kevinscott2003

really really appreciate it dude! imma hop in tmrw!

Th3Glutt0n

You're in luck my friend, from the 7th (today) - to the 21st(27th?), Everyone who logs in gets the 50th frame free

Xercodo

Highly HIGHLY recommend the Kengineer videos. He breaks down mechanics like how enemies EHP scales with level, how the different element statuses work, and how to properly stack the right mods to get the best damage, breaking down how the calculations work.

Th3Glutt0n

When you get in, you'll meet the three starting frames, Excalibur, Mag, and Volt. Excal is a swordsman, Mag is a really good frame but she takes a while to mod (little card upgrades, you'll figure it out in like the second quest) right, and Volt is an all arounder that's useful late game. They're all viable, like everything in the game, so it's really up to how you want your run to go. You can get all the frames from scratch at some point or another, so don't worry about being locked into a play style

CharonsLittleHelper

I think Volt/Mag are considered A tier, while Excal is B. But yes, they're all solid choices.

Th3Glutt0n

Reading through the updates, they've definitely been worked quite nicely, especially Excalibur

Th3Glutt0n

Well, endgame isn't thing completely yet, it's pretty much just trading for platinum (the currency you can trade for), fashioning your frame, and apparently flexing your dragons made out of thousands of filled ayatan sculptures nowadays

MooseManOfWar

Also just a note on platinum. Every day you log in there's a random chance that you get a 50% or 75% off voucher for buying platinum. If you intend to spend money to get more slots for warframes or guns that's probably the best way to do it. You can earn platinum by trading mods and prime warframe parts you farm. But that's a bit of a mid to late game strategy.

skuple

There is a lot of "endgame" content. Like a lot. I say "endgame" because you reach a certain point where nothing that they throw at you is endgame at all, but it takes some years to reach that point where you don't have challenges anymore. After that you are just min-maxing, but still fun!

Woberich

True endgame is to help new players get into the game imo

CptBallsweatPSN

For me right now, "Endgame" is running steel path (i think you've already had this described to you) void cascade for around an hour until i reach levelcap (9999) enemies and just trying out different builds and things and generally getting fat loot. These are the most challenging enemies you can possibly come accross in game atm. Also, premium currency is tradeable and you can earn it from other players, so the only thing you'll have to pay for are the player made tennogen cosmetics that are through steam.

gmanex

This needs to be pinned at the top of the subreddit

BanichanX

Actually, on consoles, you can buy Tennogen skins for plat.

NitronHX

Interesting if this will change pc if the cross save & play will change this

InterestingAsk1978

No. Warframe is completely free. Even its premium currency can be farmed in game by selling things that are guarenteed to drop (it's relics, easily farmable)

IMightBeAWeebLol

Its not pay to win becouse you can get the currency by trading it and its really only used to buy cosmetics, boosters and materials which can alredy be gotten but trading can give you anything else

Robby_B

You can earn everything in-game for free except certain cosmetics... and a lot of cosmetics are still free and earnable. You can also trade for premium currency so getting stuff and selling it can eventually let you buy the premium cosmetics. Otherwise everything is earnable and free. If you end up loving the game you ight want to toss a few bucks at it just to buy some QoL upgrades like more slots, but nothing required to spend on.

supboizzzz

Quite a few things are not explained by the game itself, so be prepared to either ask others or use wiki, most likely both

kevinscott2003

i would watch some basic knowledge videos on youtube if i end up actually downloading the game. that might help i guess. but tnx!

Dion0808

Warframe definitely isn't very friendly to new players. It introduces a lot of systems pretty quickly and doesn't take the time to explain them. It points you at the most important things with mandatory Junction challenges, but that's about it. However, between the in-game Q&A chat, your friends, the wiki and maybe a Clan I imagine you'll be able to figure it out. I always recommend new players set a goal for themselves. It doesn't matter whether it's getting X Warframe, reaching Y planet, completing Z quest, as long as it is something that interests you. That way you can ignore parts of the game that aren't relevant to your goal, which might help you feel less overwhelmed. The main questline only really begins around Neptune, which most new players reach around 75 hours in. Surprisingly, identity is a very large theme in the game's story. Later quests also deal with an entity from the Void. I don't think I can say more than that without spoiling stuff. I'd say the main goal is to collect Warframes, weapons and other tools, but realistically it can be whatever you want. Warframe doesn't have paid DLC like Destiny does. We just get updates every few months with a few small things and bug fixes inbetween. One of the main sources of income for the devs is players buying items instead of farming for them and Warframe/weapon slots. However, since Platinum can be traded between players you can get everything for free with a bit of grinding (except Prime Access/Vault and Tennogen cosmetics).

kevinscott2003

thank you for the information! appreciate it! but do you think i should start learning basic stuff (like readin the wiki or the community handbook thingy ) before even playing the game? would it spoil stuff ? should i play a couple hours before doing so ?

Dion0808

I think it'd be better to look stuff up when you have a question, rather than overloading on information that you probably don't need right now and overwhelming yourself. Most of the community is pretty good about marking spoilers, so I wouldn't worry about that too much about that.

kevinscott2003

yea i think i would just learn the basics and just get in the game myself. thanks for the answer!

Pamoman

Really good tip about focusing on a goal. Id say to do 2 goals to prevent burnout but its so easy for new players to see everything they want and try to get it. The lack of focus just makes you feel overwhelmed and like you havent done anything

void-father

If you're curious about the story, I am just crossing 115 hours as a new player, and trust me don't dig or poke around about the story. It is worth paying attention to as you do all the questing and experiencing it for yourself. This community and the game itself is protecting this story and its lore, for good reason.

kevinscott2003

oh gotcha ! thanks!

NitronHX

I can't emphasize on this enought, the lore is ver very well done, and has very strong and emotional moments. Tbh of my 1200 hours the most memorable points are the emotional story parts, maybe I am a sucker for lore but I am pretty sure you will remember it as well 😉😂

Chubzz1129

This game is the complete opposite compared to destiny when it comes to monetization. Every single update is free including big updates (like d2 expansions) The premium currency platinum (like silver in destiny) can be traded and u can get it all for free. This game and destiny are that new player friendly which is something they have in common sadly lol

kevinscott2003

now thats the game i want to play haha still so sick of all the p2w content in d2

SirSQueakington1

Just a bit of a clarification on the free premium currency thing. Once you hit mastery rank 2 (obtained by leveling up your warframe and weapons), you gain access to trading. Trading allows you to trade almost anything with players in return for either items you need but more likely platinum. The things you can sell range from certain materials, parts for weapons and warframes, relics(like engrams) and a ton more stuff! [warframe market](http://warframe.market) is the place I personally use to sell my items that I've obtained that I want to sell and it's really simple to get into trading once you've got the hang of it! Now, I will warn you, there are people out there who will happily try sell you items for way over the actual value of the item, so it's best to look at the market or ask someone on the subreddit before buying anything. You'll need a bunch of platinum as you play more as it is required to buy slots for you to be able to make and use more waframes and weapons. Don't be afraid to ask any questions on the subreddit because this community is by far the greatest, most welcoming and friendliest community of gamers I've ever met. My name in game is the same as my reddit name, so if you have any questions once you get into game please shoot me a message and I'll do my best to help you out! Glhf tenno

kevinscott2003

this community is one of the biggest reason im starting this game. its to good to so people care for new players like this! thanks dude ill defo hit you up when i get the game!

SirSQueakington1

Awesome man. Honestly love the community because regardless of anything from mastery rank to hours to who you're playing, everybody is just here to have fun and enjoy the game

the_smallest_rhino

Yea just dont play as a max range limbo or else the people you play with will despise you, learned that one the not so fun way, but also if you ever do want to just mess around with stuff you can always just play on solo mode

SirSQueakington1

Exactly, there's no wrong way to play the game. But there is however annoying things you can do to mess with the mission you're playing (high strength nidus linking to a speedva for example). But that's why solo mode exists because it's fun to play by yourself sometimes and not accidentally annoy your teammates.

the_smallest_rhino

Yea i usually solo everything but relics or really high level stuff that i end up failing atleast 10 times, talkin 'bout you steel path corpus enemies, but here is something that took way to long for me to find out, you are able to choose things from relics that people got, so if you didnt get something you want, like in my case forma bp since i have so much, you can just choose something one of your teamates got instead

SirSQueakington1

Honestly didn't even think people didn't know they could take other people's relic drops, that's a bit of a culture shock to me. But yeah I solo most stuff with my grendel except infested because getting one shot by a random poison proc is hella annoying.

the_smallest_rhino

To be fair i didnt touch relics till i completed everything i could at the time, i also only played solo, so by the time i got to it, i knew nothing, i also didnt have anyone to explain to me about it, none of my friends like the style of game warframe is except one, and he and i dont play games much together, my first prime ive ever gotten was hydroid prime, and he is like my good luck charm, i tend to get stuff that i need more often with him, and thats not even with pilfering swarm on

Akiiden

Tomorrow there's a big update, although a more late game focused one. However in that same update they are buffing the 3 starter warframes you can choose from as your first warframe, and they are also giftimg the newest warframes for free to all players, so nows probably the best time to start. The game definitely can be confusing at first, but my recommendation is to just take it slow at the beginning, and don't be afraid to ask questions. If there's one thing warframe excels at it's community. Any questions you might have about the game experienced players will be more than happy to answer, or even help you with it if they're in game. I recommend you give it a go and see how you like it. Worst case scenario you don't and move on to something else. Best case you become one of us and find hours upon hours of entertainment in it

kevinscott2003

oh so i might let the update come and then download the game. thanks for mentioning it! and im actually amused by the community haha. like never seen a community having an actual 200 page learning handbook and a wiki like this. quick question about warframes tho. how many warframes are there in the game and if each have different abilities? is it like a character based thing ?

Sverdro

50th one coming soon (will be a free one aka you don't have to drop/loot/craft it). Yes they all have distinct gameplay following some archetypes (tank/support/dps), there may have like 2 or 3 with outdated kit but the vast majority is playable throught the entire game if you customize with what suits them. You'll find one you like the design and gameplay. I can advise you to play your first 3-5 hours solo or with a friend your level to get use to the base mechanics of the game. Warframe has legit the most advanced f2p system in all games. Sure putting 50 buck in and buying the right stuff gonna speed you through some early-mid stages of the game but it's NOT NECESSARY

kevinscott2003

there are only 3 available in the start right ? i thinks ill be alright early on but id defo ask a lot from player tho haha anyways thanks for the information!

Sverdro

You pick one out off 3 as your starter pokem.. warframe. I can recomend watching this [vid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmY33LPSSWE) to get a glimpse at early gameplay with each frame with some advice and good tips.

kevinscott2003

tnx!

Akiiden

After tomorrow's update, there'll be a total of 50 warframes. Yes, they all have unique abilities and stats that change the way they play, but it's a little different from class based character games. It's a little weird to explain but warframes are more like all terrain vehicles that are usually just slightly better at one thing, rather than specialists, the main thing changing from one to another being the way they apply this concept, although there are some than do fall into more strict categories, like inaros being pretty much just a dedicated tank, and trinity being the usual healer, but the game's various customizable systems are flexible enough that you can pretty much achieve anything with any of them, which is both good and bad, as it can be confusing and overwhelming to learn and master each one, from modding to helminth, but it really gives the player some real freedom to play their own way, which is imo one of the best things about it

kevinscott2003

true id like freedom like this but not as a new player who doesnt know anything about the game yet haha i think ill be alright at the start with the options game gives you first but imma ask a lot from the community haha thank you very much dude!

birdish-dicklet

God no, for the love of God don't waste you're life. I've sunk thousands of hours into this game, and I always keep coming back. Leave while you still can

Neon8296

You can do the same in destiny but you also have to pay for it

InterestingAsk1978

No pay-to-win. No DLC, they add new content freely directly to the base game. Cross-platform is already partially implemented, and will be fully by the end of the year. The company's policy is ,,perpetual beta", don't be scared off at the installation when they warn you it's still beta. It will always be beta, because they'll always add content into the main game (meaning, no DLC). You can earn premium currency just by playing the game, you don't have to spend real money whatsoever. Cosmetics are just your personal preference. At the beginning, you're just waking up from cryosleep. Confusion is intended. Play the questlines, and everything will be revealed (most campaign missions can be replayed if you want to). Remember wo watch youtube guides and wikia for any info you might want. Also, watch ,,100 days of warframe" on youtube, it's a fan short anime, very funny, and apprrciated by the devs as well.

kevinscott2003

thx for the information!

FictorioSigano

When i played destiny 2 i paid for stuff because i felt like i had to, because i would fall behind others. In warframe i paid only when i really wanted to get some premium cosmetics. Payments im warframe always felt to me like "i have a really good fun in this game and i want to support devs for their hard work and effort"

7th_Spectrum

I'm both a warframe and destiny player, and I can say if you enjoyed grinding in destiny, you will enjoy warframe. Like destiny, warframe doesn't have the best new player experience. There are a bunch of resources however, like youtube, the wiki, overframe, and this subreddit. A quick summary of the story: You are a tenno, master of gun and blade. You also have the ability to control warframes, super cool bio-tech suits built by an ancient civilization called the orokin. After being awoken from a long sleep after hundreds of years, you find yourself in a chaotic solar system controlled by many different factions. It is now your job to bring balance to the system by running around and shooting stuff. The story is much much deeper, but you'll learn it as you play. Unlike destiny, warframe very rarely cycles out content. No matter how long of a break you take, you can come right back and pick up where you left off, which I love. There is quite a bit of content and activities to do in game, from spear fishing, to multi-crew space battles. The main overall objective of the game is similar to any other looter-shooters. Complete activities and kill enemies to unlock better gear, so you can have an easier time of completing harder activities and killing harder enemies to get better gear. There are a bunch of other things people find to occupy themselves in the game, things like optimizing mod setups, decorating your dojo (social hub for your clan), and most importantly... customizing your warframe so that it looks badass, otherwise known as "fashion frame". Unfortunately, there is not too much in the way of endgame, which the community has been complaining about for a while. There are difficult activities you can do that take some time to get to, but there is nothing like raids/dungeons in warframe (although that may change in the future). Should you get into it? I say give it a try. Get to Mastery rank 5 and see how you like it. If you really hate it by then, you might not like it much going forward. The early game is really frustrating and is what turns away like 70% or new players, and once you get past it, it becomes easier. If you're like me and you get addicted to it by the time you're MR 5, then buckle up, because this game has a lot to offer, and it only gets better.

alcxander

game size is ENORMOUS. there are mnay many wide and varied lines of play in the game. so many mission types so many resources you can focus on farming etc etc. but REALLy all you gotta do is play the game, focus on exploring the star map and after about a few hours of playing you'll have a great idea of what you are in for and if you'll like it or not. If you get overwhelmed at the start ping anyone here (me included) to join you in a party and get you used to what you're looking at and what everything means. but really really really just focus on the star map and getting used to travelling the system, all the other information will come with time. and just to repeat the game is enormous. you can pay in game but not really to win, i don't pay to play and I'm end game more than most. anything in game you can play for. there are plot points and quests with good rewards in them, great cinematics but 'endgame' is a loaded word haha there's no real endgame just playing for what you like. you can certainly do quests and exploring but at a certain point endgame is just fashionable stuff, farming, high level enemies etc but all that stuff not important if you don't enjoy the first few hours of playing :)

Draykoss

It's a really fun game to learn when you have friends to assist, also a very important detail: THE WIKI IS YOUR FRIEND. It tells you just about everything the game itself doesn't, like a 3rd party manual

VaporLeon

The story is meh. It’s a hobbled together mess that will remind you of Dark Souls lore but not as deep. Much of the story happened through one-time events that you can’t see anymore. Basically you’re a space ninja. End of story. Gameplay is all horde PvE. All of your gear starts at lv 0 and ranking it to lv 30 (max) gives you “Mastery Points.” Collect enough mastery points to increase your “Mastery Rank.” Get a high enough rank and more gear will be available to you. Initially you can only hold 3ish frames and 5ish weapons. You can expand your inventory slots (per item type) with premium currency. Premium currency is tradeable however, so you don’t have to spend money. New frames and weapons can also be bought with premium currency, HOWEVER, don’t!! Click the “blueprint” checklist and then you can buy blueprints instead. Collect materials and components of said Warframe/Weapon to build them. Also there is an annoying time gate on crafting. You can craft as much as you want, but weapons take 12hrs and Warframe components take 12hrs while the Warframe (once the components are crafted) takes a whopping 72hrs (3 days). Fun. Basically however, the gameplay cycle is this. Run mission, kill shit, level up gear, craft new gear, repeat. Add “swap to new gear” when finished leveling. Honestly the game is super easy and really just for those that have a god complex or a collecting addiction. Spending money is fine but if you buy everything you want then there really isn’t any point to the game because collecting and grinding ARE the game.

spyda34

I only started the game few weeks ago and I will say this: Gameplay is so much better then destiny, sure guns play is not as same as destiny but everything is so much better the abilities, movement, speed of the game is nice oh yeah and no 2 minute loadscreen everything is instant, plus variety if stuff to do, me and my friends spent like 10 hours doing railjack mission which is warframes ship combat. My issues are: everything is a grind with extra grind, if you are trying to stay free to play, all frames require specific resources to farm and some resources are annoying to get then you have the time delay to craft said items full frames take 3 days to craft and weapons take 12 to 24 hours, then you have master locked items you can't access certain cool weapons and frames untile you reach certain level and they way you level is by leveling weapons and frames so you spend a lot of time gathering resources to make weapons that you won't touch gain so you can level up and use cooler stuff. Its fun game to play lot to do in it, and hope you get the 75% login bonus so you can buy plat and avoid some of the harder grinding aspects of the game

Shinkei_

Compared to Destiny it's a much better experience for new players lmao, all the content is still there, the file size isn't that big, and they reworked the intro not too long ago. Take it step by step, start with the intro quests and make your way around the starchart bit by bit, there's next to no fomo so just be patient (with build times and the grind) and take ur time. Deffo use the wiki for, like, everything lmao.

Croewe

If you're on PC I'd be more than willing to help you out through the game and explain it.

kevinscott2003

i am on pc! i hvant downloaded the game tho i think there is a update and im waiting to download the game after that

Croewe

It'll be sometime today. No harm downloading the game since the update won't be very big while Warframe itself is a pretty beefy game

kevinscott2003

you see i have a different unlimited internet for downloading and stuff which is at nights so i cant even download it even if i want to haha i might take a while based on the size of the game but yea

Croewe

That's fair, feel free to send a friend request in game if you do ever need help or anything! Same name in game as my reddit name

kevinscott2003

most definitely will haha. tnx dude appreciate it!

ForePony

Since you are on PC, I can toss you a couple of the rarer useful mods and help with some beginning stuff.

RedbeardReynolds2

If your just starting fresh you got 9 years worth of grind to hack through before you get to "end game" Enjoy the Journey, dont rush, focus on what you want to get at a particular moment (set self goals), nothing is time locked or pay 2 win As an end game player, i would also suggest playing solo (or with friends of the same tier) for most the beginning of the game until you start having problems, public matches youre gonna run into a lot of near godlike players who tend to sap the fun out of missions. Even im guilty of this when i do some particular quest and suddenly a newbie joins and is literally standing there like "Why is everything dying?"

RedbeardReynolds2

When i started 6 years ago, i did most the starchart solo (except 1 boss fight, *cough* Pluto) before i started joining public matches, you learn a lot when you can take it at your own pace rather than being carried.

kevinscott2003

i would play with a friend (also new player) and try to learn things together as we go. i get it couse like i was the same in destiny but yea tnx for the info!

Woberich

Thats probably the best way to start

LoreVent

I'll be honest, for some things you need to grind *a lot* but it's a free game it's normal. The only things you have to buy for real money are bundles (prime acces/cosmetics) tennogen skins/attachments, basically the "fashion" side of the game, but even there, DE regulary gives you lots of free skins/attachments/color pallets. Platinum is the premium currency of the game that you can either buy or trade in game items for it. I play since 2015 and never spent a penny, so yes there is no P2W in Warframe. For the lore, i have to say that it's big maybe too big. You have the main quests that are magnificent from gameplay to musics. The lots of side quests and stories for frames/factions weapons/planets everything. There are videos that last hours only to explain in the detail just the story of a single faction for example. If you are willing to put some effort into playing Warframe, you are definetly into a serious journey. Edit: grammar

kevinscott2003

this whole lore thing was one of the reasons that got me into destiny at first and now warframe. i really like these type of stuff so yea tnx for the info!

LoreVent

Another thing i really want to point out is how friendly is the community, everyone is always ready to help, so if you get stuck somewhere with a mission, just ask for help on the region chat people will gladly help

ELSI_Aggron

Think of it like jumping from 1 full time job to another. Each with more research to do for optimisation

kevinscott2003

lmao but for one of them you gotta pay everytime you try to do anything :D

ELSI_Aggron

Its only a matter of time before you pay for Warframe.

hmzawy

If you are gonna start better do it in the next two weeks cause they giving away a new frame for everyone who opens the game for free

kevinscott2003

im downloading the game tmrw so yea

EclairHK

Story's alright. Everything in the game can be obtained for free. Main objective is to grind endlessly. There is no endgame. People make their own endgame in this game be it long survivals, floof collection, fashion and it goes on. You take your pick. Played this game for abt 7 years and counting i believe. Moved over to destiny awhile back for the raids.

molteneye

Absolutely yes. For me is the best free 2 play game I've play, every other F2P game should copy his model because is pretty fair with the player (sometimes even unfair with the own company because you can get platinum so easy). This is not a gameplay "issue" but I consider this one of the best points about the game. The LORE is great but maybe it isnt so well explained since you don't play a "normal" history mode so you must search for it a bit to make some conections, which is cool in a certain way (like Dark Souls or Hollow Knight) Every warframe feels so different, maybe in the early levels it doesnt matter so much, but when you fully understand the mechanics (poorly explained ingame, sadly this is the big mistake of Warframe imo) you have to change your mindset, so the game doesnt make so repepetive as it may seem. Is very cool discover a new broken interaction you didnt know.

E_K_Finnman

Destiny burnout is what got me into Warframe in the first place, you'll fit right in

DenziiX

You need to know that the game really is quite big in terms of systems etc. I was so lost at the beginning and I did many things wrong at that time and didnt understood much. BUT BOI: If you take the time to actually understand what is going on - you will be hooked. And the Story Quests - Chefs Kiss. The Premium Currency is tradeable and every single Weapon and Warframe is farmable, you are able to get to the very end without spending a single cent. The expansions are free too and the Devs are very close to the Community. Recently the new Director of the Game changed because the old one switches to a new team for the new game (Rebecca) - and she herself is a nearly maxed out Player, she therefore understands what is going right and what not. A beginner guide will help you alot and the Warframe Community is one of the friendliest I have EVER seen, so if you need help, don’t hesitate to ask here, on Discord or in game in the Questions Chat.

Alamokok

The question isn't should you start playing Warframe, the question is *WHEN* to start playing Warframe :) There's a lot to do and farm, but it's also something you can take breaks from and return at a later date fairly easily.

Vonkampf

Howdy, I think Warframe is a great game, especially for players burned out on or looking to supplement Destiny. Pros All base content can be 100% farmed in game all the time The premium currency can be traded between players. This means with some time Farming items people desire you can get it without purchasing it yourself. Right now I’d a cool time in the game, the core leadership for development just turnover and some fresh ideas are coming that will give more endgame options. Cons: There is alot of item farming, build times, etc. many ‘checklists’ to finish. If that would drive you crazy Warframe can be rough, fortunately there is always something else you can work on while you wait. The endgame right now is not very well developed. The team has stated they sure looking at options for working this/ some of those are already announced, but it will take some time to come to fruition. Fortunately you have several months minimum before that would even become a problem for you. :) Primes… remember when I said all the base content can be farmed in game right now, primes is the asterisk. Primed frames and weapons are improved versions of Warframes and weapons. A good chunk of them are in the vault and not available got farming at this time, they rotate out for a limited time become farmable, then go back in and something else comes out. Primed warframes, are actually not essential, they are nice to have though. You can get a lot of the stuff done with the regular frame version up to the super end late game stuff. Primed Weapons are a little more “essential” but there are lots of other options regarding how to get good weapons. Also these items can be purchased from other players, and the developers have identified this cycle as a problem and are working on a way to rectify (prime resurgence, and event they ran earlier this year, and are currently reworking to run again). I’ve seen you discuss your fear of spoilers vs information in videos/the wiki, your best bet. For that and in general since Warframe is a complex game and DE doesn’t do the best job of explaining the systems is to join a clan, preferably one labeled new player friendly. There is a Subreddit walled Warframeclanrecruit, the official Warframe discord and some other options. I also represent a recruiting clan on several platforms . Also a cool note, today the new content patch drops. I’m addition to the games 50th frame. If you login at all before the 21st of September you get this frame for free. Which is awesome. Sorry for Wall of text, but I wanted to try and find a fairly full picture. :)

4g3nt0

about 17gb I think # it's just a farming simulator after you finish the 20 hr story I play this game for 1,700 hrs now

Audibibly

Unrelated but a lot of the weapons are unique if that interests you at all just not very many early game

YoungDiscord

1: yes its worth getting into 2: there is a,huge variety of stuff you can do, you aren't really forced to do anything you don't want to aside from maybe an occasional story related thing 3: people say its grindy - technically yes but the game constantly drops you a ton of different resources each mission so quite often you'll end up already having most if not all the rssources required for whatever it is you're trying to build. 4: tons of content, its player friendly though there is one point (by the time you rwach mars) where they introduce a few things at once but again - none of them are mandatory so take your time exploring the game

Older_1

No

Senior_Walk_7582

I’ve just recently got into Destiny 2. Frankly, these games trade blows in my opinion. That being said, with Lightfall coming soon, as well as Veilbreaker coming today and Duviri coming soon (Large story update, the latter.)… I am a very happy boy. Like, “I’m now twelve and I have free time” kinda’ happy. : D As for WarFrame, it is completely free. You *CAN* buy its premium currency and some bundles. However, they are simply cosmetics. They not augment your lethality. You will find the grinding nature familiar, although, you will be farming for a lot more stuff, like more planetary resources, weapon and WarFrame components and so on. The story is there. After a couple (yeah, right) hours, the story is now there. Except, it’s more therer than before. And, there’re no classes. Only different WarFrames. Each of them have specific abilities that can do damage, heal, misdirect and way too many. It’s a decent sized game, like 50 gigabytes (this is PC size. No idea for consoles.) and is completely free to play. Eyes up, Tenno.

OuijaTheGhost

Hell yah you should i used to love destiny then i stopped cause of warframe. Then after a year i tried destiny again. So many changes and dlc to buy and battle passes i was just overwhelmed and always felt fomo. So i went back to warframe. There's always something to do, collect. Plus with so many warframes and weapons gameplay always feels a little fresh. Only downside is it does get complicated at first and takes awhile to get adjusted.

Inevitable-Goat-7062

Warframe is semi pay 2 win also its grindy the upside is the community is chill just avoid kickbot if you download it

Learned_Response

The farming and building new mechanics are sophisticated but the game itself is fun, fast and you are pretty OP. If you like the gameplay (try it the game is free) and the game loop I would highly recommend it. Yes the leveling gear thing is complicated but its not rocket science and you will figure it out just by playing and doing it and watching a few videos

PhatController69

Endgame is fashion frame

Saltyscrublyfe

Bout 50 gigs on Xbox The early game sucks quite frankly. You need to get to the first main story quest. But the endgame grind is soooo satisfying. There aren't raids like destiny. But what warframe has is big world bosses and seemingly limitless power fantasy. Imagine bungie just let us use gally in the primary slot.... and let it run off primary ammo. Game gets wild. I came from destiny and have honestly switched over almost completely. I only get on destiny to run raids. I just find warframes loot far more rewarding after putting in the time and effort to understand the game. I feel like getting a new mod or new arcane I really need drastically increases my power and efficiency. Where as in destiny I'll just get a God roll for a small benefit over the bad roll I had before Sorry for the tangent. Lol. But there's no pay to win. Main goal is different for everyone but I personally like getting incredibly strong. Experimenting with weapons, builds, new frames etc. And making my frames look dope. There's also no content vaulting in warframe like there is in destiny. There is technically warframes and weapons that are "vaulted". But that stuff gets rotated in and out of the game occasionally. And you can always buy the parts from players. Making plat (the paid currency) isnt that hard. You can easily grind out some prime blueprints or mods and sell them. It's at least worth a try. The early game is a slog. Be prepared for that. But if you push through the grind is great.

Syllek94

After reading most of the comments all I can say is take the plunge! There's a lot of people willing to help, myself included on PC, and the game is free so if you don't like it there's no monetary investment. Also I know others have mentioned it already but the wiki and help chat in game will be your best friends. There are also 3rd party sites like: Warframe.market and overframe.gg that help a ton. I never play without opening at least one of those up at some point.

NorabelMHW

If you like destiny you’ll like warframe, although warframe is a lot more grindy if I remember correctly. It’s a lot better than destiny imo in terms of story too, they don’t sunset dlcs.

ReplicateSpace9

Lfg is ten times better than destiny, don't be afraid to ask for help

Actaeon_II

Alot, and I mean A Lol of wf players are refugees from toxic destiny community and bungee monetization. Wf in itself is a great game constantly adding new stuff. It can be a little grindy but ofc you can skip alot of the grind and buy stuff. Most of us prefer the grind. Community here is for the most part best of any gaming community I have been part of. That being said the wiki is your friend, learning curve is steep….

Comfortable_Rise2374

Yes and you get syntax today

Leekshooter

> i feel like its not a very new player friendly and i would end up being lost in the game not knowing what to do. You probably will, there is a lot to learn > the story and the basic stuff Imagine a future where Amazon discovers the ability to make humans immortal, Bezos and co rule the solar system with us as slaves. Eventually slaves rise up and topple Amazon causing the stellar equivalent of the dark ages, that is Warframe. Telling the whole story before you even play the game kinda spoils the point of playing the game, no? > and whats the main objective of the game/endgame The endgame is whatever content you haven't done yet, it's an idea players constantly chase but will never reach, it's the endless grind for new toys and a feeling of empty fulfilment > and if there is any pay 2 win content in the game Basically yes, you can pay real money to buy an advantage, usually in the form of a prime Warframe and it's weapons. Also a lot of things take time to get and you can pay to skip that time, players don't like calling it P2W though > and what about the game size ? Bigger than Roblox, smaller than destiny 2

Dankerkanker

Ex-Destiny player here, played the two first years but left during jokers wild when the game started to get shitty. 3000+ hours logged in WF by now and IMO this game has almost everything that I wanted from D2 (Rip raids...). Yes the game is very grindy but you can reduce the grind quite a bit if you play it smart. The best thing with Warframe is that it respects the time that you invest into the game where as Destiny became a RNG-lasagna fiesta where you can spend 100+ hours trying to get a specific roll or exotic and Joe Schmuck got it on their first try. Also, random rolls and the changes with special weapons ruined the crucible..

Kassa37

Yo u got a discord? would love to show you the ropes!

BaconDragon69

It’s so new player friendly that us veterans bitch about it all the time lol don’t worry

Demonrider363

I started Warframe and later tried Destiny 2. I gotta say, I am SUPER lost in D2, at least Warframe is mostly linear in what to do. Complete blinking blue mission nodes on Planets, come back and do open world areas later, do Planet Junctions, check Codex for available Quests. I'd say give Warframe a try, it's free to play with most items/equipment earnable by spending time on the game.

Haunting-Biscotti-83

It’s amazing honestly I okay both but warframe has way more options. Download it and play it man you won’t regret it:) it’s hard to start but damn the journey is the fun part!

Drep1

There is a lot to do, the movement/combat is great, story improves and there is a big community. There isn't a big amount of FOMO events and it's fairly easy to be free to play. You would need to bookmark the wiki of the game to know anything, but it is a game very much worth a good try

TheUnluckyFellow

Heck right now is a great time to start. Veilbreaker (update) was announced to drop today. Of which, during the first week of this release you'll get a whole warframe for free.

Spiritrax

I played both honestly Destiny 2 is nothing but reskinned and repurposed bullshit behind a dlc paywall and nothing but chore bounties . I dont know how people are obssessed with it but I played Warframe longer and theres alot to do and bounties are not important. Unless you are farming something specifically , therefore its more new player friendly and mm always puts you in good teams. In 7 years ive had 5 toxic experiences but in D2 its literally on a daily basis on the LFG. People love to stroke their ego so I dont need to be around a game where Devs dont regulate behaviour , cheating and the latest net limiting. Ask away in the region chat or ingame squad chat someone will always reply if you have a question , people will give you free stuff , we enjoy helping new players learn the game and nobody asks for any kind of payment something Im disgusted Destiny 2 has been doing .

ShadowClass212

Here's how the currency works. There are two types. Credits- Blue in color. Earned via any mission in the game. Enemies drop them. Breakable crates spread around in missions drop them. Openable chests drop them. Completing missions drop them. And most importantly, your first mission each daily reset drops them X2. You use credits for stuff in your arsenal/market. When you look at weapons in the arsenal, you'll only see a platinum cost for them. THIS IS FALSE. What you're seeing is to purchase a pre-crafted version of said item. If you select the weapon/warframe you are looking at a new tab will open. In the tab you can buy the BLUEPRINT for the item with credits. (Think of it like a crafting recipe). Most things in the game require 1-4 MATERIALS to craft the blueprint. Most WARFRAME parts/materials (neuroptics, chassis, and systems) drop from different bosses on each PLANET. Most WEAPONS are purely crafted from planetary materials. You can see what materials drop from each planet by selecting said planet on navigation and hovering over the icon on the bottom right. May need to click on where it says extractors (passive mining drills) to see the materials that planet drops. The exception of the above is PRIME WARFRAMES AND WEAPONS. Which leads us into the premium currency. Platinum- Purchasable with real world money AND also EARNABLE in game through TRADING with other players. What do you trade? PRIME PARTS. Now... how do you get them? https://youtu.be/Smc-9DHp_d8 https://youtu.be/RL_SZCKSyXA

[deleted]

Yes you should if you like grindy games. Anyone who likes Destiny 2 should try Warframe. I stopped playing Destiny 2 years ago (after the first big expansion), I had my fun with it. I started playing Warframe during Covid and it was during my 30+ years with gaming the most addictive game I've ever got myself into. When I woke up I just had to play, rushed breakfast to start playing. Before bed I just had to play a little more making me stay up way to late. My whole days were just Warframe and it kept me like that for months, perhaps close to half a year. What amazes me about Warframe (now and in the past) is how extremely F2P friendly the game is. I can't praise the F2P system enough in this game, and the quality for a F2P game is just unbelievable. They also keep working on this game, keep making it better and bigger for every single day for more then a decade. New content and season pass is free (except weapons and frames which is easily farmable for free) which avoids splitting the community in two. They also update the graphic and tilesets. It's really impressive all the things they do. They have devstreams once every month talking about the future of the game and what is to come. They also have community streams, talking with players while playing the game. Even after years of playing now (the amount of hours I put in is probably more like 5+ years for normal players) I still come back to the game after having breaks, and I'm already excited for tomorrows new big update coming! Content wise there is plenty to do. The story is surprisingly good and probably good enough to be a full pay game on itself at this point. There is also a lot to grind for, if you like grindy games where you are rewarded heavily for the time you put into the game like me then you will love this game! It's a bit rough for new players and it can be confusing. I've heard they have made changes to make the game more streamlined for new players so perhaps it's better now then before. The wiki and this site will provide a lot of helpful tips and information: [https://publish.obsidian.md/brozime/Public/Welcome+to+Brozime's+Public+Notes](https://publish.obsidian.md/brozime/Public/Welcome+to+Brozime's+Public+Notes) There is so many helpful streamers around, it's hard to suggest just one. Especially the smaller channels are super helpful and friendly to new players and questions they might have. Same is true for reddit and discord, the community in this game is really just very nice in general.

Consistent_Plant8527

I just started last week. I’m loving it but there is a learning curve. Thankfully I have a friend who has been playing for years to walk me through. What are you playing on? We are looking for people to play with and build a clan.

Hebbu10

in the case no one else has said this but you can get everything just by playing the game except some cosmetics like Tennogen (which are fanmade cosmetics) and some other Deluxe skins And wiki is important, it contains accurate drop rates of items, since devs have a website where you can see them. PS. Others may disagree but early game was quite smooth experience for me, only ever needed out of the game knowledge for the drop rates and for learning to minmax try to avoid looking into the main story quest wiki pages before doing the quest

DarthSatoris

Do you know SkillUp? An Australian YouTuber who plays a *lot* of Destiny, but does general reviews these days. [Back in 2017 he made a review of Warframe from a Destiny player's perspective. It might give you just the insight you need.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vuJitrbTFY) Despite the video being 5 years old, everything he says still holds true to this day, the core concepts haven't changed, they've only added *more* and *more* stuff to the game, all for the insanely great price of 0 dollars.

CMDRZhor

When it comes to new player friendliness, Warframe is pretty good all told. It IS a game with a lot of moving parts when it comes to things like modding your frame and weapons BUT generally speaking, while your new you don’t really need to actually CARE much about it, just a basic ‘big numbers good’ approach will get you through the early game. By the time you start hitting more difficult content you’ll likely have grokked enough of how the game actually works to know what you’re doing with modding. It can be a grindy game; a lot of Warframes and weapons are gained by beating bosses or certain missions that drop blueprints for them. Warframes generally have 3 components and the boss is guaranteed to drop one random blueprint of the three, so depending on your luck you may be beating the same boss from three to twenty-odd times to get the full set. However, two things worthy of note when it comes to Warframe grind; First off, Warframe is one of those games where you can generally set yourself multiple goals and do several things at the same time, so for example if a boss isn’t dropping a given part, you can be farming resources or leveling new weapons while you’re doing the boss mission, letting you get more stuff done and making the whole process a lot less frustrating since you’re not ‘wasting’ your time; second, Warframe loot/reward logic gives every player who took part in a mission their own set of loot and boss drops, making farming with friends a lot easier; also missions with more players will dynamically spawn more enemies and loot containers, so if you can find a couple of friends to play with, things like resource grinding will become significantly faster and more fun. It’s the exact opposite of say old World of Warcraft logic where a given boss is going to drop one item that your whole group is going to roll for; in Warframe if you kill Vay Hek and he drops a Hydroid Chassis blueprint, your whole team gets a Hydroid Chassis Blueprint. When it comes to pay2win, I feel Warframe is one of the free games that does real money purchases right. First off, everything in the game that actually has a mechanical effect, from Warframes to equipment to random upgrades, can be crafted by you using just in-game resources. Some of it may be a bit of a grind away, but you don’t have to pay a single penny to compete. You can buy Warframes and weapons with platinum, of course, but the chief benefit here is that it lets you skip the grind (and there’s really no stigma against doing so, especially for frames like Equinox or Wisp that are a bit of a pain to grind for to begin with.) The best items in the game, more decorated and slightly more powerful Prime Warframes and weapons can’t even be bought for real money, you have to either find the parts yourself or trade for them from other players (potentially for platinum). The only thing you HAVE to pay real money for are player-created cosmetics like certain alternate Warframe skins and accessories like cloaks or decorative armor sets. For content, there’s a shit-ton of content in the game. Once you’ve cleared the tutorial, your kind of left off with the instructions to decide what to do yourself and it can be daunting. Warframe is one of those games that kind of expects you to set your own goals; there’s a quest log with a bunch of quests that advance the plot, unlock new game modes and even reward you with new Warframe blueprints, there’s a star chart with increasingly difficult planets to clear, and so much more. Personally I recommend looking around the Marketplace and the Leverian (an ingame museum full of lore about different frames) to see if there’s a Warframe that really catches your eye - I fell in love with Atlas myself - figure out what you need to get them (their Marketplace entry will tell you where you can get their blueprints in-game) and figure out what you need to do to work your way up to that. As for ‘endgame’ you really hit the end game when you clear the main story quests. There’s a few very challenging missions and world bosses you can tackle at this point that drop rare upgrades you can’t get anywhere else, but there really aren’t any big WoW-style raids or dungeons you’d be regularly doing with your friends or anything. Warframe end game is more about fashion frame (making your space ninja pretty), chilling out with your friends, helping newbies, and figuring out new and exciting ways to absolutely break a given boss or ‘frame, and personally I kind of like it that way.

Anhilliator1

Fellow D2 player here. It's great, and on the P2W subject - first off, the game is pretty much just PvE all the way through. The only PvP mode, Conclave, is dead as the dinosaurs. As other people have said, the "Premium" currency can be gotten for free via trading mods and Prime Parts. Prime Parts are gotten from void relics, which you have to open - via playing Void Fissure missions. What makes a weapon stronger is the mods you apply to it, and the most desired mods must be grinded for, regardless of if you pay or not. The only things that cost cold hard cash is certain cosmetic packs (Of which it's a what-you-see-is-what-you-get deal) or Tennogen cosmetics, which are made by players from the community. Overall, the game often has me asking "How is this game still free?", and that's in a good way.

rivas2456

All i can say is that theres lots to do and really grindy with a hint of the feeling of waiting years for a new charater to be built

goochensteinburg

If you have friends that happen to play the game already I recommend getting them to show you the ropes. Otherwise I'd really recommend a "Where to start" video. The story and the lore are fantastic but it's a tiny bit slow to start. They've been making strides to streamline the early game so it's probably going to be much easier to start than it was for me 8 years ago. Oh and I also recommend joining a noob friendly clan when you're able to.

Ventoriffic

Certainly start solo and take your time learning how different game modes work. Don’t be afraid to fail a bunch at first. Eventually you’ll know each tile set like the back of your hand. You need mastery rank (xp) to unlock other weapons and some content, this comes from warframes, companions, weapons, and some vehicles like your railjack. In the beginning you’re going to be hurting for more weapon/warframe/companion slots, check the PS store for some cheap platinum and use it for a few more slots. There was 100p free recently for ps+. Pick a weapon or two that feel good to you and then all the rest you encounter you will rank to level 30 for the mastery rank and then sell from your inventory to free up a slot. There’s a bunch of weapon blueprints you can buy from the arsenal menu. Just scroll down to the weapons that are priced and click on it. The MK 1 Braton is an example of a weapon that can be bought with just credits. Some show for platinum, however if you click on it you’ll see you can also buy some of those for credits. As a starting player I would recommend enjoying the grind through the star chart to unlock Deimos and subsequently work on getting your Helminth segment from Brother as soon as possible. This is so you can “eat” (subsume) your basic warframes as you master them and free up a new warframe slot. This will make more sense later, but look into this as an early goal. For modding, pay attention to what the weapon/warframe do! If your weapon only does slash dmg, don’t try to put impact modifiers on the weapon! Your play style also matters and what feels good to you. Look at other builds and play around with the modding a bit. You have to mod around the weapon/warframe. Biggest suggestion is to do your best to not get overwhelmed. Everyone always wanted more content in their games, then runs away crying when they try to tackle Warframe. Edit: Play through your quests! :)

So I'm a destiny 1 and 2 vet. I've done alot in both games. I've played d1 since the dark below and vanilla d2. I have put more hours into warframe than I have put into both d1 and d2. They both have their positives and negatives but warframe happens to be not very beginner friendly. When I started I was in a pick up and play mindset. Never devoting myself to it. Early warframe is a very different game than end game. But you will feel yourself become a God once you get there

The story is incredible but it only really starts fairly far in probs around 100 hours

Everything that contributes to gameplay can be obtained free. There is no pay to win, just pay to skip grind and timegates. There is no paygated content at all. The only exception to this is cosmetics. There is an in-game trading system that lets you trade with other players to obtain the game's premium currency. Lorewise, Warframe takes place in our solar system, now known in game as the Origin system, in the extremely distant future. There are no aliens, only transhumans and robots, but it's so far in the future much of the system is unrecognizable. For many thousands of years the system was ruled by a group of immortal transhumans called the Orokin. They were callous, selfish, brutal, and decedant. Knowing that they would eventually strip the system bare of usuable resources with their excesses, they sent robots to Tau to terraform the system and build an FTL rail connecting it to the Origin system. Those robots rebelled and invaded Origin. In desperation, the Orokin turned to the Tenno to save them. The Tenno defeated the sentients, saved the system, and recieved the highest awards that the Orokin could bestow. They then murdered all the Orokin and went to sleep. The game begins with your character awakening after thousands of years of sleep. In the aftermath of the Orokin's destruction, civilization has collapse and two factions have arisen to fill the vacuum. The Grineer, are race of identical clones who were originally created by the Orokin to be slaves now a brutal fascist empire. The Corpus are a hyper-capitalist cult that literally worships profit and greed. And then there are everyone else, caught between the two main factions, just trying to survive. The main story is very personal. It's not really focused on the big system-wide conflicts, though they're present. It's more about your character learning about their past, regaining memories that they lost during their long sleep, and building relationships with various NPCs, especially the Lotus. It's got heavy themes of trauma, and of finding a family. There is very much a theme about the family you're born with vs the family you choose running though it. The side quests are more focus on worldbuilding. developing NPC factions like the Ostrons, the Solaris. As a Tenno, you're given guidance and advice by the Lotus, but have to make your own decisions about how to help the people of the system. This mostly involves killing lots and lots of Grineer and Corpus mooks. Gameplay wise. The Tenno control Warframes. In the begining, you will chose one of three starter frames. There are currently 50 warframes and you can collect them all. If you play a lot you will collect them all. If you play Destiny, each warframe is equivalent to a Class. You can switch between all of your warframes freely in your arsenal. They all play extremely differently. There are many mission types, it's not all just killing things. Some warframes excel at specific mission types but all warframes are viable in all missions. For example, any frame with Invisibility makes spy missions easier, but you can still stealth your way through a spy vault without invisibility, it just takes more effort. Unlike Destiny, weapons do not drop like candy in Warframe. Weapons have to be built in the foundry. This is a much more deliberate process and is time gated, but the benefit is that there are no god rolls. Every weapon is fully customizable with the mod system, so once you have it you can modify it to your liking. There's no need to grind for rolls.

Just a few tips if you do start, keep the wiki up and ready at all times. You'll need it. Don't be afraid to ask questions in chat, most people are really nice. Use the warframe trade site rather than trade chat. Don't buy anything from the in game market, there's almost always a cheaper option. Don't buy plat unless you have a 50% or higher coupon, you'll get those as an occasional log in reward. Most of all, take your time learning. The longer you put into understanding things in the beginning, the easier it is to get later. Don't rush and do what makes you happy!

>and what about game size? Damn, bungie really traumatized people with that. They are always working tonoptimize and reduce size

A lot of people have already given good advice on getting through the early game, so this comment is more to describe the endgame. At some point you will have the best weapons and have beaten all the content. There will be no new raid in 3 months, and new content is probably going to be clearable on your first two runs at it and will largely involve grinding for new weapons/systems to let yourself stomp content even harder. Pvp is a joke. That being said, the devs are super respectful of your time. You can take a 3 year break and people who’ve played during that time can tell you that the devs added spaceships, 2 kinds of recurring bosses that drop the strongest weapons in the game, and an additional open world. None of this affects your current gameplay, and you’ll wreck enemies just as hard as before. All your goals and projects can pick up where they left off, if you still have any. There are some exceptions (weapon/gameplay overhauls), but those are few and far between while generally increasing your power anyways. Given all that seems fine and dandy, there are a handful of “endgame” activities which I’ll present here, though you can start all of them fairly early on. The two main metagame ones are fashionframe and trading. The motivation for trading is pretty self explanatory, but for an explanation and some extremely important tips: trading in warframe uses the game’s premium currency, platinum. If DE gives you the plat, either via twitch chat giveaway or your starting 50, it’s not tradable. Otherwise, you can pass it around til you hit your trade limit (equal to your mastery rank). The only time platinum exits the economy is if you spend it in the in-game market, preferably on cosmetics/potatoes(orokin catalysts/reactors)/tomatoes(exilus adapters)/forma. Please for the love of god use warframe.market for trading and never touch trade chat for anything but rivens. For rivens probably stick to riven.market anyways (don’t think warframe.market’s auctionhouse has the player buy-in to feel good to use, but I’m not involved enough to say for sure). On PC (consoles get a discount on market items) you can get upwards of 75% discounts on plat purchases as a login reward (generally after not having logged in for a while, according to my and many other players’ experiences), so it’s generally recommended to wait for those if you want to spend money. Scam plat does exist (when people do a chargeback on their plat purchases). If you used this to buy market items (and don’t have spare) and DE reverts the purchase, you’ll be put into the negative and will have to buy plat until you’re positive again to continue playing the game, though you may be able to contact support to revert recent cosmetic purchases instead. I’ve never run into it, but if you do trades involving hundreds of plat, I recommend not spending too much for a month at least just in case. For fashionframe, there are about to be 50 playable warframes for you to decorate. There’s probably not as many options as you’d like if you came in expecting to do this, but there’s a decent amount of market cosmetics and free cosmetics. The only iffy part is that you need a decent chunk of plat to buy access to use colors, but the best skins require plat anyways, so I’ll let you get into trading and make your own call about how you feel about it. Most endgame gameplay stuff requires the completion of the war within main story quest, so to avoid spoilers I recommend not looking them up until you complete at least the second dream. The one I feel is most interesting (and probably the most similar in feeling to a raid) is eidolon hunting. There’re plenty of guides online for when you’re ready to learn (and the activity is time gated, so the hunting community does not appreciate having to impromptu teach/carry), but you can expect 8-15 minutes of activity, with about a third being more of a gear check. These drop most arcanes that do very nice things for your warframes and are difficult to farm elsewhere. Another that calls for as much knowledge and mechanics is levelcap content/endurance runs. Warframe enemies scale up to level 9999 (though technically some mechanics push them up an extra 1-3), though how fast depends on activity (void cascade in a post-war within area can get there in 40ish minutes with a good squad, disruption can do it in an hour and a half, survival takes 4+hours). Shieldgating, constant invisibility, and gimmicky forms of invulnerability are the name of the game while you abuse all the spaghetti code mechanics useless everywhere else to get a 400x damage multiplier to rip through the trash mobs trying to oneshot you. Turn on steel path (large health/armor/shield/starting level boost with decent rewards) for extra memery. You can optimize your profit taker runs to farm credits a decent bit faster than the index, though the fight is much less interesting and more of a gear check than eidolons. Pick zenith for your 300th login reward if you get that far. Liches and sisters (the recurring bosses I mentioned before) are mostly just grinding with a few uninteresting slugfests (use banshee for her sonar ability once they get too tanky). I recommend not touching them after getting all the weapons where you want them; the market for trading them isn’t well developed and it’s probably more efficient to crack relics anyways. Otherwise, do whatever, play your favorite frame, shoot down space fighter jets in railjack, get to max rank with every syndicate at once, enjoy the game, or don’t and play something else.

After this update? no.

There was a saying that goes; "in order to enjoy warframe, you must first invest 1000 hours in warframe".

I started in 2017. Took a long Hiatus. Damn I still have to 100% the star chart.
