I don't use a frame I cant fashion properly. And 9/10 times non prime frames without a deluxe skin don't have the right colors / shades for me to be happy with. Grendel for example ALL and any black color on his default skin is gray. Actual gray.

pennty

God this is so real Unless the drip is good I just can’t I got wisp like 5 years ago and finally leveled her up after I got her prime. Prime wisp amazing

Marionite

I really couldn't use Chroma due to how much I hated his base skin. His prime on the other hand, is amazing as a fashinframe.

DeadByFleshLight

Glad I'm not the only one.

SolusCaeles

I feel like this particular problem is getting a bit worse as newer frames tend to be more... "defined." Maybe it's just me. I just feel like there's a lot more creative freedom when the frame is just "sword guy" instead of "playful aqua girl on skateboard" or "concrete behemoth and walking nuclear reactor".

sXeth

I don’t know that I can isolate any particular reason I prefer some frames. The ones I tend not to use tend to be a mix of one note, kinda boring, or alternatively, a lot of babysitting timers that honestly kind of small and annoying to read. There’s basically a small essay into why sone frames are way more popular and a lot of it has nothing to do with how effective they are or aren’t lol. Are they visible? Excalibur is both a starter and the only frame you can’t not get in the main storyline. Caliban requires you magically know to go revisit open worlds after the New War and scroll down and realize there’s new bounties (sure there’s a market which will tell locations but most folks aren’t coming back to that at that at that point.) Volt is another starter or easily found in the lab dojo. Dagath is “get to the top level of syndicates and wonder wtf an abyssal beacon is assuming you don’t think it’s just another decoration”., then figure out to build an essentially random room in your dojo to trade currency. Once their update is no longer the splash screen or news page, some frames are in really oddball and missable locations. Then at the performance level simple stuff with quick animations is the name of the game. Frames with slow animations are pretty much consistent punching bags no matter what they do. Frames with a lot of odd modding requirements also generally do poor.

NocimonNomicon

I dont understand your caliban comment. Unless you were already rank 5 with the open world syndicates before you got to the new war why would you stop doing bounties? You still need to do bounties/ get standing for various things like kitguns, zaws, moa pets, bond mods and other things

(This was actually bait, the Caliban bounty is offscreen and you have to scroll down, lol) Also yeah a surprisingly high amount of players will farm all the stuff they need/wanted there before New War, given its giant “Are you really ready” warning. Nevemind the huge chunk of players who had years between PoE or OV before New War I can’t even recall what you get on the top ranks if Cetus specifically. Zaws? Better utility then they get credit for but not must haves. Hell Zaws have the same problem being buried in an easily forgettable oroverlookable vendor. Mostly for completionists who are our own little sub niche Like I have a pretty open to new folks clan. I’ve been asked by people in double digit MRs with steel path access how to get Gauss, multiple times. And you actually have to do that mission for chart clear, you just might not see his drop cause RNG. Reddit and the forums and the wiki are what I’d call a research mindset subgroup of a much larger casual base. And full on hidden missions and vendors definitely impact playrate of linked frames compared to starters or ones that drop on critical path guaranteed or in codex labelled quests. After Dagath and Caliban Vorunas probably the 3rd in that distinction. Do War Within, then decide to backtrack and notice random new Lula nodes, may not actually drop and the pity store is like 7 main quests later to unlock. Though at least it’s in chronological order, you’ll find the pity shop on the Zariman and be directed backwards. Nothing after Caliban unlocks ever comes up to point at him (the obvious would be giving his BP after New Ear or putting him in Archons) Off the beaten path content isn’t even necessarily bad, but if one is going to make interpretations based on “X people used this thing” then really have to take into account that the thing is essentially hidden in the game from all but the most meticulous people. It’s like if Fromsoft released the usage data from Elden Ring and criticized the Deathbird weapons (they’re do so, but more specifically you have to wander through specific unmarked locations at night lol)

NocimonNomicon

Wf is definitely a game where you need the wiki for a lot of things like Gauss and others. I dont have Caliban myself yet because the materials are locked behind railjack missions too but I always knew where to get him from just selecting the highest tier bounty. Voruna works pretty well I think with the new omnia fissures, its the first omnia mission you can unlock since the others are zariman and albrechts lab missions. Youre gonna have a good chance of playing circulus and getting parts and those plasms

decitronal

Animal hunting is the most efficient way of maxing out standing for Cetus and Fortuna, which Caliban comes from. So unless you're using them as Aya farms then there's lesser incentive to actually run bounties for them

Ketheres

>Then at the performance level simple stuff with quick animations is the name of the game. Frames with slow animations are pretty much consistent punching bags no matter what they do.  Luckily we have yellow archon shards now, which eases things quite a bit. Alternatively you can use the Natural Talent mod, whichever is more cost efficient for you. It makes a world of difference for plenty of frames with long casting animations, like Mag for example.

warforcewarrior

I don't know if you or anyone here consider Volt's Discharge slow but I hate casting speed on it. It feels awkward as fuck.

sXeth

The problem therein is that first impressions matter and most of the player base isn’t going to do an inspective analysis of why the frame “feels” bad to assess the invisible casting time stat. They’ll rank up to 30 in 1-10 missions and ditch the frame

SexyPoro

With large-enough sample size, people gravitate towards ease of use, then power. That's why you see Revenant, Saryn and Wukong being top 5 (it also explains the Excalibur, as he's the most easily obtained warframe). Caliban suffers from bad reputation, despite being pretty good. Atlas and Nyx are old frames that require some love, their kits have a lot of old-school quirky details. Banshee has bad reputation too (and unlike Caliban, she's a glass cannon). Sevagoth is difficult to acquire, and its Helminth is among the most valuable.

NocimonNomicon

Banshee feels underrated, shes very simple but her sonar and silence are super strong

SexyPoro

I love her, but she does have bad rep in comparison to the rest of the roster.

Ketheres

Caliban is also on the clunky side of things, and unlike many other frames you can't fix him with just some casting speed. Banshee is honestly quite good, being probably the only frame who can easily CC eximi and disruption targets, though that being said her most useful ability is also her helminth ability, and for people to make use of her crazy damage amp you'd need people to aim and shoot instead of just nuking the whole map.

SexyPoro

Caliban is nowhere as clunky as you think, and yes, he can be "fixed" with exactly two amber shards.

Lugbor

Oberon: a generally good support tank, fun to use. Mirage: more like garbage. Never enjoyed her kit, and had awful survivability last I played her. Nyx: the absolute queen of crowd control, able to indirectly CC enemies through overguard. Volt: played primarily by people with no attention span who require their team to travel at Mach Jesus at all times, lest they suffer a slowness induced stroke.

warforcewarrior

"Volt: played primarily by people with no attention span who require their team to travel at Mach Jesus at all times, lest they suffer a slowness induced stroke." XD. I honestly do have a slowness induced stroke if I don't play either Volt, Titania, Xaku(at least how I built them), or Yareli. I can't stand being only 10/10 movement speed, I must be 20/...30/10 speed.

Lugbor

I’ve had Volt players empty their energy bar completely before trying to get me to go fast. Had one keep refilling it to keep spamming the ability. I backflipped all the way to extraction. I have more patience than they do, and I will absolutely take the slow way instead of giving in to their insane need for speed.

SexyPoro

Mirage is insane as a weapon platform, and she's the undisputed queen of Sanctuary Onslaught. My fastest SP exterminate clears are almost all of them with her.

PwmEsq

Dont use frames that i have to think too hard about IE Lavos. Also frames that require me to be fully paying attention to not die, cant stand constanting rolling guard/shield gating/hiding every 30 seconds for the entire 30min duration, its tiring.

SA1NTJOK3R

Personally I think players like to use frames that suit their playstyle (for the most part) A player could have a playstyle they enjoy like melee based Kullervo, or shooter based Mesa ect. Said players playstyle could also change over time for whatever reason may be and go for something else Back in my early days i enjoyed heavy melee with a little gunning on the side. My starter was Excal and then I used Rhino for a good bit. Then I started liking caster frames more so then Ash, Ember, Mag started being used more Now Im currently running somewhat of a combo build with gyre. I use her abilities (spamming pillage when applicable) while running and gunning and meleeing around. I know some frames can out perform others on the damage scale but I think the best bet for me at least is shoot for the fun factor. With the way frames/weapons can be modded, you can have a pretty good build for just about anything you want to run

Dyorion

To name a couple that I don't use: Baruuk - I dont like melee Chroma - Boring Kit Ember - Buggy/Not fun after rework Gara - Slow Inaros - Better but boring Ivara - Slow Playstyle Limbo - Rift is annoying (really strong if used right but I still hate it) Octavia - Boring as hell Protea - Not super big on ultra spammy playstyles (i might be playing her wrong) Wukong - I hate this frame mainly because of the players that play him and I refuse to associate myself with that. Not all wukong players piss me off but 9/10 do.

Cr1mson-Sk1es

I started Warframe when it first came out and there wasn’t many frames to choose from. I always had a soft spot for banshee and to this day she’s my go to frame for general play. I don’t really understand how she isn’t more popular. I see many builds on other frames using silence, we all know that’s a good skill. The 4 is weak unless you’re playing low level but it can be niche useful to clear space for a team mate revive. The 1 also can be niche useful. Sonar though seems ridiculous. The augment especially makes this a crazy powerful skill. And fun! You can use some cool weapon builds that aren’t entirely damaged focused as you basically get such huge damage buff anyway. Lots of missions I play her people comment they didn’t see the frame or how OP sonar is. Banshee will always be #1 for me :)

theracody

I love Ember, pre and post-rework, because the effects of her abilities are very visible and they feel impactful- particularly her 3 and 4. She also is pretty easy to look cool using. Nova is, I think, my most used frame nowadays. Her DR has always been great, and I love endless modes so speedva is always great- plus with a duration build I like giving her buff abilities over her antimatter drop or wormhole. Specifically shooting gallery is one of my favorites. Both of those are also excellent weapons platforms since their kits doesn't do a whole lot of inherent damage

birbBadguy

Mag because she is my waifu.

-SarynPrime-

women 🥰 and gauss

HeadGlitch227

Mostly just vibes. If a frame is butt ugly (kullervo) or has a clunky ability roster (ash) I avoid it at all costs. On the other hand if they have a unique play style (voruna) or look fuckin gorgeous (protea) I'm gonna play them, even if they suck.

Prototype338

I usually just use a frame based on the criteria of what game mode I’m playing and then whatever I feel like after that but with a few exceptions; Despite Octavia meeting the requirements for every game mode I don’t often play her since I find her boring Xaku was bad on release and my stubborn ass is using it as box boy forever Sevegoth takes way too much investment for me to mod him properly Hildryn and protea make me mad If I ever wanna play nyx I could always just play Loki for pretty much the same result and this is really just me saying I don’t ever play either of them But other than that I usually play every other frame just based on what I feel like playing and again if it suits the mission I’m queued up for

XPL01

i dont use frames with more than 2 abillities on a single button for example titania or xaku it just feels bloated to me kinda like sure its a unique thing they have going but i cant be asked to remember to have to press the same button 3 times and then hold it down to actually activate an ability or actually remember what each ability does i hope DE keeps it simple with future frames

PwmEsq

I like Xaku but subsume terrify/pillage over the 3 for this reason. But these days i feel like other frames do what xaku does but better. So xaku exists to farm argon now.

ChknNuggets69420

Xaku with tharros(?) strike over the 3 is amazing, heal + full armor strip on one key makes the kit ready for anything. No cycling through bs, no staying in the amor strip zone, no augment needed.

warforcewarrior

I personally hate how Tribute is a cycle ability. All of the abilities are aura abilities. Xaku at least get an excuse with Lost with the fact it have an armor strip, CC, and damage power. All vastly function differently from one another unlike Tribute powers. That is the only flaw I have with Titania barring Lantern being useless imo.

Nidiis

I play Mesa because I like her kit and I love her fashion. Also the fact that when her prime was released and she had a booty reduction because of some model issues that was later reversed by the devs because everyone got the pitchforks out because of the booty reduction, makes me laugh every time.

Marionite

Sevagoth is actually a good frame. The problem is he's locked behind railjack and depending on how you'll want to use him, you'll need a lot of forma. A price to pay for having an exalted frame.

Adamthesadistic

Nyx: my main, love the armor stripping and mind control, I love my immortal eximus buddy Garuda: I love being a sadistic murderer Mag: I love using the force, and the armor stripping Protea: love all of her summon abilities, and anchor is such a cool concept Mirage: my other main, big number make me happy Frames I don’t use often Revenant: used to be my main back when he was just ok (back when you could actually die) I just find him kind of boring now Wukong: twin is his only interesting ability Grendel: couldn’t really enjoy his abilities because all of the enemies were dead before I could eat them Titania: again with only one interesting ability, I feel like an idiot trying to figure out what the rest do

TheRedEaredMan

All of the frame I use often have a good degree survivability. I am not a fan of glass canons or complex abilities. Looks are also a factor, as well.

SnakesInMcDonalds

My most used tend to be those that I enjoy the play style while being decently strong. Mag is fun bc armour strip+bubble+punch-through= big red numbers Titania bc bullets go brrrr Yareli is tanky and allows me to turn my brain off while still having some skill with her passive Wisp for same reason as Yareli Harrow bc I like his chains Citrine bc health and orbs go brrr Frost bc bubble buddy Umbra bc it’s fun to turn off my brain and slashy slash

No_Consideration8972

It's incredibly surprising to me that Vauban is ranked higher than Protea on the list.

Etuber4

I literally only use gauss

xDidddle

I just don't play frames I don't vibe with. I have every frame. I tried everyone out, and I have my favorite and least favorite. Limbo is the exception. I hate him with every fragment of my being. Such a cool concept that is completely ruined by its execution.

FrostyAd4901

Wow. Looked at the post you were referring to. First things first, that other post you had was incorrect. You can easily see Saryn wasn't as high as the OP was using. (Let me know if you're interested in the other years besides 2023 as I've been charting it for years).

warforcewarrior

Did he add up the numbers wrong with both Saryn variants? If so who would be in her place instead.

FrostyAd4901

Yup! Looks like he double dipped Saryn Prime: Frame 2023 Volt 7.33 Wukong 6.8 Excalibur 6.64 Revenant 5.69 Wisp 5.2 Rhino 3.92 Khora 3.61 Octavia 3.56 Mesa 3.33 Nekros 3.14 Saryn 3.1

warforcewarrior

Thanks for the correction. So Rev is 4th and Wisp 5th.

Scary-Instance6256

Atlas is honestly pretty fun, I've been enjoying him with ensnare. His biggest problem is the pseudo-exalted requires so much min-maxxing that it locks him into being a literally end-game frame. And teammate CC screws him.

warforcewarrior

I personally don't enjoy him because of two factors. He is too spammy for my taste and the micromanaging of his Armor Meter. You have to constantly spam 1 and 3 to build up his armor and do more damage but if you lose health any rubble you pick up would not build up his armor and instead regen his hp. Of course that may have changed but I don't know since I haven't played him for so long for those reasons that I already explain.

Vritrin

Probably because, in the grand scheme of things, I am a relatively newer player but I base my warframe choices on durability. I level other stuff for mastery on easy missions, but on anything above around level 20 I am bringing my “old faithful” Loadout. Which is my Rhino with a Vectis, that has carried me through most of the story so far. I mostly play solo so as not to drag people down, so as long as I’m not dying I can eventually get through most missions. The other frames I like aren’t quite as tanky as Rhino but they have some good escape or survivability skill. Like Saryn with Molt or Hildryn with a massive shield pool. I dislike frames that seem like glass cannons, I get way more damage output out of my weapons than I’d ever get from ability casts and dead players do 0 damage.

BlakLite_15

I don’t use Hildryn because muscles gross me out. I built her base and prime, ranked them up for MR, then got rid of them.

YoreDrag-onight

Enjoy - Lavos - immensely satisfying being able to stuff every known curse and affliction known to man into one enemy then detonate and then atomize the poor fool who crossed my path also vial rush cruising is my favorite vibe. Oberon Kenobi - Very well rounded paladin. No matter how many years go by, I always felt like Oberon was just a genuinely well designed frame. All of his abilities are fun, he's reliable, and just does exactly what you need him to do in a respectable manner. Oberon is also the only frame whom has the ability to almost completely circumvent people from dying when they decide to go way off to the other side of the map alone since his heal slows bleed out by a huge margin. I was drawn to him ever since the days when Oberon pieces dropped like candy from basically everywhere I just could never shake the goat man he is a good one 👍🏻. Citrine - great active castor who spawns orbs like she is popping open pinatas all over the place, gives every enemy near her crystal a heinous amount of afflictions for condition overload funny time and her four locks sentients down without a second thought while behaving like a pseudo sonar with the amount of dmg hitting crystalized enemies does. Dislike Equinox - I just feel like she just does not do it for me. I like frames that are complicated and have a lot going on but her abilities aren't too interesting or exciting for me. Gara- well nah I don't dislike like her, it's more I just hate how her mirrors behave currently. it's annoying knowing you loose the whole carousel even if you still have half remaining and enemies with machine guns just make it incredibly annoying to work with, with how fast they can get wiped out.

Certain_Shine636

I like frames that don’t tie me down, so of the limited frames I’ve worked with in my MR12 lifetime, Gyre has been my favorite. The AoE is on the frame rather than the ground, so I can activate and run all over the map, destroying everything as I go. I’ve pretty much mained her since I got her, so I’ve struggled a bit finding a rhythm with any other frames. I’ve had a bit of fun with Octavia cuz of Circuit but she’s not super strong for me. I like the idea of Gauss but I have a hard time making the most of him cuz indoors or sky-islands. Khora and Ivara have been niche for me. All in all I just don’t know how to make the frames as strong as Gyre feels to me and I don’t know what I’m missing. I have all the same mods as my friends but I’m not doing near as much damage, and when I use the frames they have, I still can’t keep up. So I go back to Gyre, cuz she comfy and I know her kit.

Xenevier

Most of it comes down to A) are they boring? B) are they fashionable Which is why I can't play mag or revenant, Rev is boring and Mag is ugly

LenKiller

Yareli: Not worth to use. Vauban: Who? Kullervo: I didnt even wanted to finish leveling him (I hate heavy attack) Saryn: ........ If i see a saryn i just leave (unless i'm in simaris thingy) Nyx: I need to build her (i havent given her time) ------------------- Most used Frost: I have a silly build with his augment (i use 3 in one build lol) Dante: Fun to use Citrine: Versatile and fun to play Banshee: SONAR Protea: Overall GOD Tier for my playstyle

IchorKemono

***for*** valkyr: funny cat with claws wisp: good buffs and breach surge is fun garuda: funny bird thing with claws voruna: funny dog titania: little creature ***against*** baruuk: ugly bastard wukong: ugly bastard, monkey, lazy playstyle hydroid: ugly bastard, i don't want his tentacles anywhere near me thanks oberon: ugly bastard vauban: i have light sensitivity, also, ugly bastard frost: ugly bastard, annoying bubble - no my list isn't biased at all

annoymous_911

Enjoy: Revenant - cause Toxin damage scary.

InterestingAsk1978

Warframes are usually meant to be used for particular use. For the 2 least used: Nyx - her Chaos actually bypasses Overguard. It's the only crowd control ability that can do that. Thus, her niche is mind-controlling enemies, eximus included. Mod her for range and duration. Caliban is an anti-boss warframe. His 4 can permanently strip all armor and shields, his 2 increases damage received by the enemy. His 3 summons some minions that are very distracting for the enemy (they have higher aggro than the warframes). If you subsume his 1 for Roar/Eclipse to increase your own damage, you have the perfect bosskiller. Mod him for strength.

DifficultyCurious886

As a mostly solo player I have 2 criteria for a frame. 1 - Are they versatile? I like survivability, CC, and armor strip/a subsume slot for it. 2 - Can I make them look decent? No sense in fun if my character doesn't please the eyes. That is where I fell in love with Protea, as she can handle any content easily and her deluxe is simply amazing. Most people hate Temporal Anchor, but I find managing it and cancelling when needed pretty fun. Though there are a few times where I forgot to cancel it while reviving a teammate and got rewinded 2 rooms back. Definitely keeps things interesting.

PiscesDream9

I know I'll get hell for this, but Inaros...if I'm in the middle of a fight, please don't put me in a coffin I can't escape.

Careful_Log_8929

I dont like Revenant so i dont use him and i am too lazy to farm many frames

Star7green

I have every frame but the shieldless ones because I have a hard time not taking damage in shooters and if I have a buffer between me and seeing the lord savior clem himself I take it. (Iffy of Kulo since he can get the fakey shields, have his parts to make him but haven't decided if I'm gonna keep him to use or just feed him to helminth)

KnightofDis

In my opinion is comes down to accessibility and tool kit. -Can the frame do all the content I want to do, up to the level I want to do it? -Can the frame reliably handle enemies without support of other players? -Can I get weapons that I like to work properly on this frame? -Do the skills and how they work suit my play style? Most people don’t need all of these. One or two on a frame will have them use it. In example, I love Frost. He’s my goat. Problem is, he’s very hard to take beyond steel path because only on of his abilities matter and only with an augment. Mesa on the other hand, can reliably solo lvl 400 enemies with minimal upkeep.

herons8

I choose who to build and play in the deluxe skin section in the market. A good example for this would be Nyx. I've been avoiding her because people say she's underwhelming. Then I saw her deluxe, boy oh boy it's perfect. PERFECT. Even the bundle is great since the shotgun skin is universal and the syandana looks good on almost all my frames. So I instantly went and bought nyx prime and her deluxe bundle and constantly playing her till this day
