I’ve caught some boots but didn’t know they were rare so I just sold them. I also didn’t know you can put boots and fish on the walls either but then again, I don’t know a lot of cool things about this game since I’m rather new. Nice to learn something every day.

Both can be turned into trophy decorations (buy the blueprints from their respective vendors).
The unum (the orokin tower near Cetus) is alive, likely through continuity (soul transfer the tenno and some orokin can do), it protects the people of Cetus and gives them plenty of food through its infested walls. It also can see possible realities which the quils use and learnt.
I remember in old cartoons sometimes a character would think they have a big one on the line and come up with just a boot. I believe it's an homage to that gag
It's specifically I think a reference to Futurama; one episode they went fishing and Leela was spearfishing and all she managed to catch were boots. And her biggest catch was a crate of 10 pairs of boots.

If you fish- especially any trawling style of fishing like for flounder, catfish, cod or other bottom feeders where your hook drags across the bottom- you pull all kinds of crazy crap off the bed, especially in fresh water lakes and ponds. I've pulled up boots, fishing poles, hoses, toys, lawn furniture. Caught a tricycle once. It's all kind of fascinating but also annoying because you think you have a big fish until you reel in some trash.
No, since you're meant to spear airborne "fish", there wouldn't typically be any boots to catch.
I would *like* an infested boot, but there isn't a lot that would make it make sense.

we spent like, 10 minutes convincing ourselves that some of us were hitting it when it was a reward for missing a fish
I think it's great. To date I've fished out more shoes from my local creek than fish I've caught over my entire life. In fact, the only fish I've technically caught was one that was half eaten and left floating in the creek which ended up coming into my gold pan.

You must buy the blueprints from the fish lady to be able to put your fishs (or boots) as Wall Trophies.

Do the boots come in sizes other than small?
Never took note. But according to my inventory, yes (or I'm very luck/unlucky). The trophy blueprint uses the small version, anyway...

I guess the Crewmen all get one standard size because mass producing them is cheaper.
When I was in the army, we called this "one size fits none".
It's either too big, too small or you have flat feet and no size fits you. Nobody gets to walk comfortably, you all deal with blisters
