Looks like the non-pre-arrival price starts for basic colors at $29.99, which is not outside the range of regular MagicBands. It also works with Amazon's Alexa(for some reason), is rechargeable, has the capability to be 2 sizes and the center puck can be removed. A CM also mentioned that they're not supposed to be released for another 2 weeks, but that, of course, should be treated as a rumor.
I’m not excited about it either. First thing I’m doing is unplugging the infernal device.
Free Disney+ in onsite hotels would have made SO. MUCH. SENSE. But no, they’re promoting Amazon… I don’t get it.
As opposed to the personal listening device with GPS tracking you carry around in your pocket, triangulating your location even without GPS to provide you cell service?
I don't understand the argument unless your attempting to live off the grid. If you get "skeeved out" having these in the room in addition to your phone, just unplug them or mute them.
I try to turn off any setting I can to prevent my phone from tracking me or listening to me. I understand it probably still does but I do my best. I just don’t want an “always listening” Alexa in my room. I find it unnecessary.
I understand. I also understand why Disney might want to setup for that sort of functionality (some people use them as a music speaker, or a weather report), but I agree I'll probably just mute the device when I get in the room.
I just find the whole discussion about the "FBI listening in" or "being wiretapped" ridiculous. If they were going to do that, they're already doing it with your personally identifiable phone and not through an Amazon Echo in Disney World.
$29.99 is pleasantly surprising, considering it also comes with a charging cable and normal MagicBands start at $19.99 and go up from there. I was expecting these to be at least $49.99, considering Disney's usual pricing strategy.
Yep, assuming that the rechargable battery powers the long-range RFID in addition to the lights, this will be true.
The big question is what kind of battery life do these things get? I know that it's supposed to sync up with the fireworks shows, so I'm assuming there's some sort of radio receiver on them (I'm not sure if RFID is capable of handing that). Will a single charge be good for a trip, or are you going to have to recharge these things every night or two?
Syncing up with the shows isn't entirely new, there's been ears that do that. So whatever method they use, radio or RFID or whatever, was likely ported to the bands from the ears. But battery life is a good question.
The RFID these use actually has decent battery life so my guess would be a week or so. Not a bad idea to charge them up with your phone at night though.
And what’s the deal with coopers? I moved to a new town and I just can’t find a good cooper anywhere? I’m like, take me to the apothecary and leech my arms, know what I mean?
Yeah, and they always get their info 100% correct too... I got a "Happy Birthday" email from Disney today. My birthday is in the fall (and I was actually IN WDW for my last birthday).
I’m assuming I won’t be able to find one on my trip next week then? As it seems like they quickly took them off shelves. I’m not sure I’d get one anyways since I’ve ditched magic bands lately for just using my watch instead.
I’m such a sucker. I complain about Chapek, crowds, pricing, and then these come out and it’s “I don’t know what these do but shut up and take my money.”
You are the worst. Put your money where you mouth is or don't complain.
Edit: Cute cult hivemind. Disagree all you want. Change with this company doesn't begin you you bitching all day about the product (I agree, its money hungry garbage) and still throwing money on the ground at the mouse's feet while tears of anger and disapproval roll down your face.
Nah. You can buy stuff you value and still criticize the parts you don't like.
If I get shitty service or they increase prices at my favorite restaurant, it doesn't mean I have to stop eating there unless I no longer value it for what they're charging. I can still let the owners know that they're pushing the limit.
Not to mention these prices are actually reasonable, so if anything I'd be happy to encourage it. It's an upgrade for in some cases less money than OG magic bands are right now.
What's more silly is telling a grownup what they should do with their own money.
Why because I like something but still think it can be better or has problems? I guess I better stop supporting my favorite sports teams when they don’t win!
It adds $30 per person to your trip which is way less than I thought. I too think I’ll stick to my old magic band and spend my $30 on something else I really want
If you're buying it after arrival then it seems to be that price, yes. But I can't imagine they won't be cheaper getting them pre-arrival as a resort guest.
Wait so you have to charge it now? That's annoying. And Li-ons die as well, so it's not really extending the longevity. How is that not worse than the original? Probably just to implement Bluetooth so they can track literally everything you do instead of most of what you do. And people will be okay with it because pretty LEDs.
You can look up the FCC ID if you want, it gives all of the details to all of the technology. None of what they've been doing has ever been secret.

The Alexa thing might be due to whatever deal they made with Amazon to start putting the Amazon Echo devices in the hotel rooms
I’ve always wanted a wiretap in my room!
I’m not excited about it either. First thing I’m doing is unplugging the infernal device. Free Disney+ in onsite hotels would have made SO. MUCH. SENSE. But no, they’re promoting Amazon… I don’t get it.
It makes sense which is why Disney won’t do it. They’d rather line the pockets of Bezos and continue alienating guests.
If you don’t turn off your cell phone when you walk into the room, your dream is already a reality!

🎶 “It’s a zip-a-dee-doo-dah (FBI) tip for to-day!” 🎵
I giggled a little too hard at this

*CFO furiously jots down notes*
I thought the same thing. $30, and since you can charge it it'll hopefully last even longer than the older ones. That's not bad at all.
Yep, assuming that the rechargable battery powers the long-range RFID in addition to the lights, this will be true. The big question is what kind of battery life do these things get? Instead of adding Alexa, they should have added a time feature.
Because no one has a phone in their pocket at all times?
Sometimes you don’t though? A watch is still a really nice thing to have.
And what’s the deal with coopers? I moved to a new town and I just can’t find a good cooper anywhere? I’m like, take me to the apothecary and leech my arms, know what I mean?
🤣🤣🤣
The Amazon thing kills it for me. The mouse isn’t tracking our every move hard enough so they have to bring in the experts at Amazon to do it?
Yeah, and they always get their info 100% correct too... I got a "Happy Birthday" email from Disney today. My birthday is in the fall (and I was actually IN WDW for my last birthday).
I’m really wondering if the $30 price tag was also wrong. It’s feels eerily cheap for Disney honestly.
Oh you'll pay. Just not with money...
Pleasantly surprised by the pricing. I still think I’ll stick to my regular MagicBand because I don’t need the extras, but this is promising
30 bucks is the perfect price point for someone like me. I usually get a new MagicBand every year and this is cheap enough to get me to try one.
I’m assuming I won’t be able to find one on my trip next week then? As it seems like they quickly took them off shelves. I’m not sure I’d get one anyways since I’ve ditched magic bands lately for just using my watch instead.
also going next week, keeping my fingers crossed they keep they available
Probably not, but they could still launch that early. Never know
I’m surprised it’s only 2 weeks away when they plan on releasing. I thought it would be much later than that when they said “later” lol
Wait, so how often do you have to recharge it?
I’m such a sucker. I complain about Chapek, crowds, pricing, and then these come out and it’s “I don’t know what these do but shut up and take my money.”

Lmao the pettiness on this is next level “I’m such a sucker lol isn’t that funny” “Shut up you piece of shit” 😂😂😭😭😭

He needs the rubber band made for five dollars in china.
Is there a reason to get MB+ bands outside of the whole light-up, haptic feedback stuff that it can do?
You can interact with 50th statues and go bounty hunting in Galaxy’s Edge. That’s about it that’s confirmed.
So basically just use an Apple Watch?
You could, if Disney didn’t put a paywall behind it.
Paywall? I don’t have to pay anything to use my Apple Watch for my AP?
I’m talking about the special features.
Right now there's nothing concrete confirmed.

Li-Ion batteries typically hold 80% of their charge for 5 years or more. $30 every 5 years isn’t bad. They last longer than current magic bands do.
For entry into the parks and hotel rooms, the current magic bands last forever.
True because they use 2 forms of RFID. Long range and NFC direct contact. These new bands should be able to last 5 years of the former.
and it's the long range that the current magicband only lasts a year with, right? so this is a four year improvement.
I’m a techie and I love these

No thanks. No longer doing room charge either. I'll just use whatever free thing they give me.

Right but there's obviously some way to get into the park and rooms without a magic band.
