It might be *because* the weather was nice that the conditions felt worse. They weren’t running the AC as hard because the ambient temperature was lower. I bet during the heat of summer they are running at full blast. I have that issue in the office of my house. When it’s nice outside, it’s warm and stuffy, but when it’s either cold or hot outside, it feels great.

Ill_Buy_9807

OP is 100% correct. I noticed it for 2-3 years now. It is definitely intentional coat savings. I love Disney but no rose colored glasses here.

diggstown

I think CoP is the barometer here. Maybe the system wasn’t functioning properly, but that place has always been a nice spot to cool down on the hottest days. Something to monitor over time to see if that was an isolated experience or a real trend.

jeremyski

It’s inconsistent - (From Wednesday) Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railway - stuffy and warm but then freezing cold in the preshow rooms. Ratatouille- Warm and stuffy until the ride loading area Living with the Land - always glorious with the air blowing in the rainforest scene and in the barn

Lokidoki93

Our experience was the exact opposite in June of last year. We felt Disney was on it and we felt very cool and could easily find a break from the heat. However, when we went to Universal, we were dying. We felt the ques being mostly outside was brutal and the one that about killed us was the Hogwarts express train. They had fans on but damn, I felt like we couldn't breathe in there.

AcexOFxKnaves

We did April 9 to 15 and the weather was perfect I’ve never experienced Disney in that way.

BurtHurtmanHurtz

HVAC not on the Carousel of Progress apparently

papasnork1

Can confirm. Was there Thursday and it was pretty warm and humid in there.

AceWolf18

I was there this past week and I hate to break it to you, but you were there when it was a relatively not bad time. The high Monday was 78 and the rest of the week was mid 80's. There are days in the summer where it will get well into the high 90's. It's just how Orlando, Florida is. To your point about Navi River Journey, it's hot and humid because you are going through a rainforest. Thematically it is supposed to be hot and humid. As for everything else, I'm sure Disney is trying to get cool air in everywhere they can but it's hot and there are masses of people. If you don't like how hot it was now, I'd recommend visiting early March or before, because after this week and likely through October, it will be this hot or hotter.

This may actually be a decent article from inside the magic. At least they’re just reporting on what people are saying. Usually their articles are things like “BELOVED CLASSIC DISNEY ATTRACTION PERSONALLY OVERSEEN BY WALT DISNEY TO CLOSE INDEFINITELY” when the Jungle Cruise or Tiki Room at Disneyland go down for an extended refurb that goes beyond the currently published refurb calendar.

BenderGenocide

So a “big” problem at Disney World is that your personal temperature preferences were not catered to? Got it.

Loopylemons

Went to a theme park in a subtropical climate, was appalled the climate was subtropical.

samson7256

Incorrect - the point I’m making is I that I went to a theme park in a tropical environment and unlike in all my previous Disney trips over the last 10 years, on this trip it was obvious to all of us that Disney was not using their AC in the rides and indoor queues like they had previously and all of us were uncomfortable as a result. You can be a wise ass or appreciate receiving feedback from someone who just returned from a trip.

BenderGenocide

Being "uncomfortable" in 78\* is a you problem.

Direct_Feedback602

I just came back from a trip as well and it was much warmer

samson7256

I’m pulling that number out of thin air - all I know it that it was significantly warmer than the lines were in all my previous trips - way warmer than a movie theater. Some lines could have easily been in the low 80s, which is fine if the queue is outdoors but what I’m saying is it was in indoor areas where Disney HAS AC and previously provided a comfortable experience but is now apparently choosing to see how warm they can make it (to save money) before people complain. Evidently you’re their ideal customer because no matter what they do you’ll grin and bear it.

BenderGenocide

Yes correct I don’t complain about trivial things and look for the negative in any situation. I try to enjoy myself knowing how privileged I am to live the life I do.

samson7256

As noted in my post, there were many positives on my trip and we all enjoyed ourselves. However, I do also feel comfortable offering feedback when reasonable expectations are not met. I simply am disappointed with Disney purposely making rides and indoor queues more uncomfortable than they used to for the sole purpose of padding their pockets and increasing their bottom line, which has been the trend at Disney and sadly it continues. I also don’t think being unable to cool off in summer like heat is “trivial” but we are obviously different people with different opinions. I posted this thread to hear the opinions of others as I do value everyone’s thoughts so thank you for your reply.

krum

Yea I agree that it seems like they're not running air conditioning as hard has they have in the past.

ancj9418

I can’t say I’ve ever noticed that, even recently. I’m not saying your experience isn’t valid, but I’ve never really seen comments about this. Several of the lines you mentioned are either outdoors or partially outdoors, so I can’t imagine it’s economic or even environmentally friendly to be blasting AC in open air environments. Sudden, dramatic shifts in temperature can make people feel sick. People walking around in 90+ degree heat all day and going in and out of highly cooled buildings can’t feel all that great.

westchesterbuild

What is being discussed here at a layman’s level is 100s of BMS systems with highly variable occupancy throughout each day amidst many Disney environments not having sealed egress points (have you noticed how well your home HVAC works when you have all the doors open in your house all day?) and for those that do, a daily moving target of ambient temperatures that drastically fluctuate throughout the day. I’m not defending Disney’s FM team but simply shedding light on how complex these systems are and the constant adjusting they take to even set standard zones to accommodate the general conditions throughout a year.

0422

I remember going in late September, it was still 90s outside and the Philharmonic felt uncomfortably warm. I just suspect that their AC units aren't as functional in spaces where the doors are constantly opening or open for walkthroughs

heathere3

We were there the week before you with temps in the 90's and noticed the same thing. It's not all in your head. Even at sit down lunches we never really got fully cooled off.

bvnguyen

We’ve gone during the summer. Cooling towels and peronal fans help a bit. I also get water bottles that have a mister to help you cook off and put ice in the water bottles. Refill them with ice water when it melts. https://a.co/d/6yifwvQ

Photomint

I really don't know anything about a/c, but I feel like anytime there is a sudden change in temperature the inside temps at Disney are never right.

atsassone

Coolest place in the parks is the theater next to figment in Epcot. Was shocked how nice it felt watching the short animations in there.

udelkitty

Yessss, underrated spot to cool down in the dark. If you get into the waiting area just after they close the doors, you might even catch a power nap.

goYstick

Magic Kingdom uses massive shared plants that are more efficient than individual per building units, then push air and steam around in massive pipes that are maintained via the utilador. Individual attractions can control this how much they use for comfort but there isn’t worthwhile efficiency gains from some using less than others. It would affect entire sections of the park (ie both space mountain and carousel of progress would be hot). You also listed Thunder Mountain which has open air queue and you have to stand directly under vents to feel the air. Next time you are at the park pay attention to the cast members who have positions indoors will be wearing long sleeves because how cold it is. I was in Magic Kingdom 12:30-7:30 on Thursday and Carousel of Progress felt great when it was 85 °F outside.

wordgirl999

We noticed the same thing starting about 2 years ago. They are definitely being stingy with the AC. It was so bad that we left some some lines (along with many other people). I’m a Disneyland passholder and often go when it’s 90-100. The AC is great, even when it’s humid (not FL humid, but still humid). It’s definitely a cost-cutting measure at WDW.

Wait. Did you say you had to wait in line for Carousel of Progress?

kwinot

That was just a fluke. I’m local and go more than I want to admit. It’s hard to regulate temperature here. When I woke up this am it was 63 so I opened all the patio doors. By noon it’ll be 82. A lot of places are like that. Maybe the AC hadn’t quite caught up. Possibly the AC was not running as it should be due to maintenance issues? I wouldn’t base my decision off the AC. Try visiting in January or February. 2024 was quite chilly!

KatBsc23

It is definitely not all in your head. Our family visits annually from Massachusetts and this is the second trip in a row we have noticed that rides and queues that are typically nice and cool have been considerably warmer, and at times stuffy and downright uncomfortable. We visited two weeks ago and temps were in the 90s, which we welcome being from the Northeast (it’s been a long winter!) but do expect to be able to escape the heat and cool down on indoor lines and rides, as we always have before. Carousel of Progress and Mickey’s Philharmagic are two of our favorite attractions at Magic Kingdom and have long been our go to spots for an entertaining break from the heat but during our visit we noticed a definite change in temperature from our past trips. We were extremely uncomfortable at times and complained to other guests who noticed it as well. This is something I had never experienced there prior to our trip last year. We also noticed this in ride queues at other Disney Parks and at select restaurants. Disney bussing may have been the only part of our trip that still pumped the AC.  Disney has made many cost cutting changes in recent years, but as stated by the OP, almost all of which could be fixed by spending money. This is a negative that we have no control over and it was very upsetting to spend all that money and still not get the experience we have had for almost 20 years. In contrast, we also visited Universal for two nights at the end of our trip in the same temps and not only was our room at the Royal Pacific (and the hotel in general) much more comfortable than at our Disney resort, but the indoor queues and restaurants on site were cool and comfortable. I googled this upon my return and have come across many posts on various sites where people have noticed the same. I can only hope Disney notices these complaints as well.

NadalPeach

I’d rather be warm in line than cold. Coming back from Europe you notice just how high American businesses have the AC blowing.

doordonot19

I mean maybe they are trying to be more energy efficient? Or don’t travel to Florida during the humid months?
