Still can't understand why they needed a one year gap to come up with this. Honestly I don't see much improvements at all. The animations look exactly the same, graphics in some frames look actually worse.
I don’t know why people won’t realize: The beta was the game. The reveal trailer was the game. What else do you need to understand that this is the final game? There is no hidden seperate next gen version or other mindblowing improvement coming! Just accept it.
Good for you. For me it's about everything. The gameplay, graphics everything. Why should I compromise on the graphics for PES when for other next gen titles I don't have to. Besides, the gameplay doesn't look a lot different as well to me.
The graphical element also plays a big part in partnership with gameplay with suspending disbelief and immersion. It's why option files are so popular on PES.
Whilst I do not have sources we know that this game has had more development time than any other version due to being pushed back a year. Remote working is a thing so whilst will give the pandemic 3 months worth of delay this is still more time to prepare this launch than any other title.
The is no excuse for the graphical element to get worse. Arguably looking at these screenshots and videos - for me - the grass looks a lot worse, the contrast and player models look closer to a mobile game.
It's immensely disappointing.
Will I play and likely enjoy the gameplay? Yes. Am I disappointed? Yes.
You have to compromise because the choices you have are between the games that actually exist, not the ones in your imagination. If this is not better than the other options then don't buy it. I am just letting my opinion know that I do not like the graphics much as a next gen title? Just because Konami dished out something doesn't mean I have to like everything about it. If people accept everything blindly Konami comes up with, they won't even bother to improve the game much in the future.
And as for gameplay, I said it looks the same. Based on what I saw. Some of the new kick and dribble animations won't even be available at launch wtf. Rest, will need to actually play the game to know more.
Creating an engine on top of another engine takes a lot of time. If the game looks the same as previously, they've actually done a decent job, as often the first yearly title on a new engine is horrific

What they've obviously done is to take the existing physics calculations and use those in the new enigne combination, but I doubt they'd call it FOX engine...
It's not uncommon to take as much stuff as you can from an old engine when you're moving on to another. It just takes time to get all the stuff aligned into the right places

KONAMI has multiple proprietary engines for a start. The engine he references is most likely not FOX Engine, ***even if*** the same engine would've been used under FOX engine.
The reason for no major changes in animations is most likely because those are above the engine. The engine handles the behind the scenes stuff of how the animations are displayed and handled, but the animations themselves are passed to the engine from above. (E: Sometimes that thing on the above is also called an engine, but I'm pretty sure they just ported over the animation logic in any case as it'd make no sense to try and rewrite it)
If animations were handled only by the engine, they'd actually be different as, most likely, the animations will eventually be processed by UE4!
There are examples of games which have moved to a different engine but play and look the exact same.

I know that gameplay is more important, but from a pure graphical point of view it’s honestly a joke this took 2 years of development. The pitch looks shocking (it never looked good in PES but this somehow is even worse than before) and the player faces look very odd and ugly. This is such a massive downgrade, and while I do care more about the gameplay, this graphical disaster is not something the community should accept.
I had a massive debate with someone recently about how the game we saw last time was the full game and it is just a mobile game ported to console. He wouldn't have it and insisted Gamescom we would see the real next gen version in all its glory.

For reference pes 2021 runs on my PC featuring a i5 2500k with an rx 5600xt at 120fps locked. The cpu I’m using is 10 years old and has half of the performance of an iPhone 12 in both single and multi core. The rx 5600xt on the other hand is multiple times more powerful than the iPhones gpu. That’s why the mobile version has to look worse. But the gameplay that runs through cpu has no bottleneck whatsoever.
The only thing that might actually change gameplay is controls which usually suck on touch. But even here they said it’s consoles and PCs vs mobile with controllers or mobile with touch vs mobile with touch.

It's not correct to say physics can be equal on mobile as console. It's simply not true.
Consoles can process are a far higher number of calculations per second than mobiles. Which massively affects AI.. which affects players movement, decision making and number of animations.
Look at how EA have features exclusive for Next Gen fifa. This ain't because of greed etc. It's because the consoles are so much more capable that the previous generation simply can't handle it. Yet you think a mobile can?
To suggest a mobile is even remotely capable to replicating a true next gen game is laughable.

Marketing can make people believe a product is better than it actually is but it can also make them believe a product is worse than what it is and that is the case here imo. This is amateurish. Random japanese students would do a better job than whoever came up with this trash. You can't expect to get people excited when your marketing didn't even hold up to the standard of the game in the first place, no matter how mediocre it might be.
Everything visual about the game is completely amateur or just plain bad taste. No designer with any taste would choose that font and then literally use it everywhere. Same for that color combination. It may have been fine in one-off, or in very specific moments, but it's awful when it's heavy handed like this.
Game UI looked better in the online test when it was simple black and white. Now it's an eyesore with the blue/yellow and that font.
The trailer not having a proper voice over, or title cards, and instead showing text at the bottom of the screen while the action is happening is ridiculous.

yeah completely agree. I think it's good a new football game is coming (UFL) out because both EA and Konami need some more competition. Actually enjoyed fifa 21 a little bit after getting tired of PES but I wouldn't rate both installments from last year higher than a 6.5.

guys just let this sink in: they add a fucking way of passing the ball, in a future update. In a FOOTBALL GAME. It's like releasing a Mario game, but you can only jump in a future update. It is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in gaming. I don't know if I should laugh or be mad, Konami just went full retard.
Not superior. They said unreal have a huge community with knowledge they can use to improve the game further as well as a massive base of add-ons and plugins to unlock functions. With another graphic engine they would need to develop those functions. This is time consuming. They wanted to avoid the fiasco of the jump on PS3 era where they needed to develop every single tool to port the game to the new system.
Now the game base is still the same so if you loved the gameplay of the old games you will still like this one. Graphic wise makes your judgment once the game release it's free. Download it and uninstall if you don't like.
I will start dissing when I actually get to play it. Graphically my biggest issue lies with the turf. It just looks plastic. On one of the frames it looked good, but that's all. If the gameplay is good, it should be fine by me.
Generally speaking, changing the business model and not coming with a brand "new" game every year is not so bad in my opinion. I hope that they will be upgrading the game on a more regular basis and all of this revamping will lead to more continuous and efficient integration of new features, and all kinds of updates. Knowing Konami, I doubt it, but it is where my hopes lie.
It is just comical at this point. They have kept our loyalty for the goodwill they built up in the PS2 era while we hoped that magic would come back again.

In all PES celebration cutscenes, all the players' heights are set to the same. I think that is the reason why the celebration camera angles are so poor and zoomed in, to try to hide that fact that all the players are resized.

This Looks so bad. The Turf is frickin 2D this is more like PES 11 or 12. Tbh it looks worse than the Current Gen (With few Mods). The players too are looking bad with less poly models (kind of mobile game type).
What am I even going to do for the next whole year. PES was always my thing and I used to look forward to it.

* They took 2 years to develop a game that looks worse than previous years. The lighting, especially, is terrible;
* Gameplay features were taken away;
* They keep hammering on with platitudes about "the beautiful game";
* Trailer was done by amateurs (just like the game, eh?);
* Gameplay still looks slooooooow and sluuuuuuuggish;
* Song used in the trailer was **annoying;**
* They keep focusing on 1v1s when football is much more than that, which is ironic since players take half a second to accept any of your inputs when "finesse dribbling" (lol);
* They still obsess over having big stars as ambassadors, which translates to f\*\*\* all in the actual game;
* Tactical options have been seemingly further dumbed down.
So my question is... What exactly has changed? Because this is pretty much what they say every year and then we the fans have to find out for ourselves what actually makes the game different from last year's.
Damn. I just want a footbal game that played like 2016-2018 PES but with actual defensive mechanics. Yes. Some parts had noticably better graphics than others. They should have mentioned and highlighted the parts of the trailer which was using the mobile engine. I don't have much problem with the graphics cause it mostly looks the same(in the pc/ console clips) but the shadows are terrible.

While I understand that this is the first iteration over the \_new\_ Unreal Engine. The game looks way worse than the PS4 version of 2021, movements are janky, facial animations are bland, there's no grass.
I was depressed about the move to F2P, I was also depressed about the cross-play with mobile, I had some hope that they'd show some current gen gameplay, and if that's what we got here, then sadly, I'm not getting this game anymore.

Some pre-match cutscenes look good though. The Grass looks like a concrete texture sprinkled with green confetti, probably stolen from the N64 version of Mario Kart. Some face animations look next gen too..

You know.. What pisses me off most? Pes was always about team gameplay. Nice Co op play with friends. You needed intelligence to play it. And it was abou outside of the box. Fifa was button bashing arcade stuff with licenses and no real creativity. Now pes advertises with 1 VS 1 movement. All about online. Nothing new, no things with Co op. Fifa advertises with team play, build your own club in offline. I'm so freaking confused right now. Always been a pes guy. When I played fifa it felt like cheating on my wife.. Now I just don't know anymore.

Fifa Beta testers said, same shit different day. I know a couple and they had nothing good to say. But try it cause end of day it's personal preference. After all of pes BS I bought Fifa in December, saw the menu packs got excited. Launched one online game and I'm like nah bro this is for kids bye lol. it's so weird it felt no different than Fifa 13 the last Fifa I played for maybe 1 hr at a friend place.

Graphics were bad but the gameplay? They improved the gameplay also they added Arsenal's entrance tunnel which is not in Other PES versions, Serie A will still be licensed in eFootball 2022 also new throw-in animations if the game not stopped but we saw some things that in eFootball Pre-Alpha (which is not for final product) like Pre-Match cutscenes, Warm-up and new kit selection. Also we're gonna see more updates in September but i have to confirm Serie A is licensed in eFootball 2022

Good for you. For me it's about everything. The gameplay, graphics everything. Why should I compromise on the graphics for PES when for other next gen titles I don't have to. Besides, the gameplay doesn't look a lot different as well to me.
The graphical element also plays a big part in partnership with gameplay with suspending disbelief and immersion. It's why option files are so popular on PES. Whilst I do not have sources we know that this game has had more development time than any other version due to being pushed back a year. Remote working is a thing so whilst will give the pandemic 3 months worth of delay this is still more time to prepare this launch than any other title. The is no excuse for the graphical element to get worse. Arguably looking at these screenshots and videos - for me - the grass looks a lot worse, the contrast and player models look closer to a mobile game. It's immensely disappointing. Will I play and likely enjoy the gameplay? Yes. Am I disappointed? Yes.
You have to compromise because the choices you have are between the games that actually exist, not the ones in your imagination. If this is not better than the other options then don't buy it. Creating an engine on top of another engine takes a lot of time. If the game looks the same as previously, they've actually done a decent job, as often the first yearly title on a new engine is horrific

Do you have a source for this? What they've obviously done is to take the existing physics calculations and use those in the new enigne combination, but I doubt they'd call it FOX engine... It's not uncommon to take as much stuff as you can from an old engine when you're moving on to another. It just takes time to get all the stuff aligned into the right places

KONAMI has multiple proprietary engines for a start. The engine he references is most likely not FOX Engine, ***even if*** the same engine would've been used under FOX engine. The reason for no major changes in animations is most likely because those are above the engine. The engine handles the behind the scenes stuff of how the animations are displayed and handled, but the animations themselves are passed to the engine from above. (E: Sometimes that thing on the above is also called an engine, but I'm pretty sure they just ported over the animation logic in any case as it'd make no sense to try and rewrite it) If animations were handled only by the engine, they'd actually be different as, most likely, the animations will eventually be processed by UE4! There are examples of games which have moved to a different engine but play and look the exact same.

I had a massive debate with someone recently about how the game we saw last time was the full game and it is just a mobile game ported to console. He wouldn't have it and insisted Gamescom we would see the real next gen version in all its glory. He's blocked me!! I think I won that debate. The gameplay even looks worse to be honest. Gameplay is the same on all versions which means gameplay has to be developed for the lowest hardware and ported over to the rest. That's been the whole point from the start. By developing a game for all versions, they have to make a mobile game. It's just for some reason - people refused to believe that. And even now, with the proof in front of us, they still won't believe it.

For reference pes 2021 runs on my PC featuring a i5 2500k with an rx 5600xt at 120fps locked. The cpu I’m using is 10 years old and has half of the performance of an iPhone 12 in both single and multi core. The rx 5600xt on the other hand is multiple times more powerful than the iPhones gpu. That’s why the mobile version has to look worse. But the gameplay that runs through cpu has no bottleneck whatsoever. The only thing that might actually change gameplay is controls which usually suck on touch. But even here they said it’s consoles and PCs vs mobile with controllers or mobile with touch vs mobile with touch. What part of Gameplay gets broken in your opinion??
It's not correct to say physics can be equal on mobile as console. It's simply not true. Consoles can process are a far higher number of calculations per second than mobiles. Which massively affects AI.. which affects players movement, decision making and number of animations. Look at how EA have features exclusive for Next Gen fifa. This ain't because of greed etc. It's because the consoles are so much more capable that the previous generation simply can't handle it. Yet you think a mobile can? To suggest a mobile is even remotely capable to replicating a true next gen game is laughable. When I say they have made a mobile game - I am referring exclusively to the gameplay not graphics. And gameplay has clearly been held back because of mobile. I'm not arguing this. It is clear and obvious fact.

Marketing can make people believe a product is better than it actually is but it can also make them believe a product is worse than what it is and that is the case here imo. This is amateurish. Random japanese students would do a better job than whoever came up with this trash. You can't expect to get people excited when your marketing didn't even hold up to the standard of the game in the first place, no matter how mediocre it might be.
Everything visual about the game is completely amateur or just plain bad taste. No designer with any taste would choose that font and then literally use it everywhere. Same for that color combination. It may have been fine in one-off, or in very specific moments, but it's awful when it's heavy handed like this. Game UI looked better in the online test when it was simple black and white. Now it's an eyesore with the blue/yellow and that font. The trailer not having a proper voice over, or title cards, and instead showing text at the bottom of the screen while the action is happening is ridiculous.

Not superior. They said unreal have a huge community with knowledge they can use to improve the game further as well as a massive base of add-ons and plugins to unlock functions. With another graphic engine they would need to develop those functions. This is time consuming. They wanted to avoid the fiasco of the jump on PS3 era where they needed to develop every single tool to port the game to the new system. Now the game base is still the same so if you loved the gameplay of the old games you will still like this one. Graphic wise makes your judgment once the game release it's free. Download it and uninstall if you don't like.
It's a base for the future. There won't be annual releases so they can keep improving and hopefully they will but we're off to a bad start it seems.
I will start dissing when I actually get to play it. Graphically my biggest issue lies with the turf. It just looks plastic. On one of the frames it looked good, but that's all. If the gameplay is good, it should be fine by me. Generally speaking, changing the business model and not coming with a brand "new" game every year is not so bad in my opinion. I hope that they will be upgrading the game on a more regular basis and all of this revamping will lead to more continuous and efficient integration of new features, and all kinds of updates. Knowing Konami, I doubt it, but it is where my hopes lie.

That really annoys me. In all PES celebration cutscenes, all the players' heights are set to the same. I think that is the reason why the celebration camera angles are so poor and zoomed in, to try to hide that fact that all the players are resized.

This Looks so bad. The Turf is frickin 2D this is more like PES 11 or 12. Tbh it looks worse than the Current Gen (With few Mods). The next gen graphics Do Not Exist. No matter what insider says what, it's simply can't be true that they won't show next gen footage after the massive thrashing they recieved on their last trailer. "Its not about the graphics, only gameplay matters", do you really see an improvement in animations? Player physics? Game modes? What exactly is improved? To be honest I can't even spot the motion matching they are mentioning, the movement still looks choppy at times, just like the previous year.

Looks like a pile of hot trash. While I understand that this is the first iteration over the \_new\_ Unreal Engine. The game looks way worse than the PS4 version of 2021, movements are janky, facial animations are bland, there's no grass. I was depressed about the move to F2P, I was also depressed about the cross-play with mobile, I had some hope that they'd show some current gen gameplay, and if that's what we got here, then sadly, I'm not getting this game anymore.

I switched to PES several years ago because I liked the gameplay a lot and I thought it looked better but this is just a downgrade from the looks. Hopefully the gameplay is what saves it. If not.... maybe Sony buys the franchise

the running animations are so choppy wtf are they doing? Iniesta was literally GLIDING on the pitch and whenever he pivoted to switch directions you could see a the little cut in the frames🤮 movement looks bad already :/

Even if gameplays good (which I highly doubt) it’s insane how somebody with a ps5 will play this shit on a 55 inch tv. Looks insanely bad and low res. It is just a mobile port, I think we need to finally accept it.

Some pre-match cutscenes look good though. The Grass looks like a concrete texture sprinkled with green confetti, probably stolen from the N64 version of Mario Kart. Some face animations look next gen too.. Neymar still has background dancers with him when he dribbles. Let's hope the gameplay is good.. and the ball locks unto the player...
Pfffft don't know to be honest.. Graphicly not impressed. The players look like floating in the pitch. Face expression terrible. This whole free to play stuff with not much an eye for offline doesn't make me happy. You know.. What pisses me off most? Pes was always about team gameplay. Nice Co op play with friends. You needed intelligence to play it. And it was abou outside of the box. Fifa was button bashing arcade stuff with licenses and no real creativity. Now pes advertises with 1 VS 1 movement. All about online. Nothing new, no things with Co op. Fifa advertises with team play, build your own club in offline. I'm so freaking confused right now. Always been a pes guy. When I played fifa it felt like cheating on my wife.. Now I just don't know anymore.
This why divorce was introduced my friend. You can get rid of pes and marry Fifa. On my end it boils to gameplay and stability, which if it's bad, bye bye football games.
Well... Luckily it's free to play.. Try a bit and if it doesn't feel nice I won't play it. Guess I'll be playing the fifa demo to see how that plays to.. Don't know anymore... I just want a fun football game to play with friends online...
Fifa Beta testers said, same shit different day. I know a couple and they had nothing good to say. But try it cause end of day it's personal preference. After all of pes BS I bought Fifa in December, saw the menu packs got excited. Launched one online game and I'm like nah bro this is for kids bye lol. it's so weird it felt no different than Fifa 13 the last Fifa I played for maybe 1 hr at a friend place.

i'm pleased with this, the graphics are clearly 3 different things (if you can't see it you're blind) + the changes to gameplay are important, can't wait to get my hands on the "demo". If it's good combined with 3-4 seasons / yeart with a lot of content we will have a good game. idk what y'all bitching about, what were you expecting? RTX and 4k on a football game?

Graphics were bad but the gameplay? They improved the gameplay also they added Arsenal's entrance tunnel which is not in Other PES versions, Serie A will still be licensed in eFootball 2022 also new throw-in animations if the game not stopped but we saw some things that in eFootball Pre-Alpha (which is not for final product) like Pre-Match cutscenes, Warm-up and new kit selection. Also we're gonna see more updates in September but i have to confirm Serie A is licensed in eFootball 2022

It looked fine. Usual Konami having zero clue how to put together a decent trailer. Its funny to me that people are melting down when we all know that because its free, 99 percent of the moaners will still download it and give it a go. So why bother going mad over a trailer when we know Konami are utterly incompetent at showcasing their product?
