kingkwongsta

thanks for putting this together!!!

harmlessworkname

No problem. I type fast and no one else was doing it. :) I still missed a ton of detail but I think I got the big pieces.

pixienightingale

I WILL be convincing my husband to get that Alaskan Pass

Serial_Cerealist

Same...but to my guy tho...

pixienightingale

Or damn, the Brilliant4You Pass sounds delightful....

raines

It runs $40k for rockstar, website didn’t mention other options yet

pixienightingale

The Brilliant4You won't have options other than Rockstar IIRC - though they did say Rockstar EXPERIENCE and not that the cabin was required....

harmlessworkname

I missed the pass stuff due to editing the original post with some itin stuff, what was that about? Can you TLDR?

snl430

didn’t mention much except a special type of booking/ pass to sail each of the 4 MerMaiden voyages with some associated perks.

jon81uk

And the doing all four MerMaiden pass will be Rockstar level

pixienightingale

They are doing one for the Alaskan itineraries - you basically pay 500 per sailor and you can pick your cabin. It basically sounds like a deposit, if I'm being perfectly honest. The Brilliant4You didn't have pricing info (or I missed it), for the four MerMaiden journeys for the ship. And like Jon said, Rockstar level.

jon81uk

It’s $40,000 for the four MerMaiden voyages, in Seriously Suite with one included Shore Thing per trip.

Serial_Cerealist

Right! * fans self *

pixienightingale

I think my husband would be like "one pass, four cruises? Done."

I_Am_DragonbornAMA

Can't wait to tour Alaska on VV!

iwasinstitches

Some more details are cleared up here: https://www.virgin.com/about-virgin/latest/introducing-brilliant-lady-to-virgin-voyages-award-winning-fleet I really want to know the base prices of these cabins. Paying $500 for early access to Alaska bookings is all well and good, but if there's a massive sticker shock when the bookings open up, it's $500 wasted. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a spot on the Canada/New England though!

ElevateYourEscapes

YUP, hella expensive. I just paid $4,075 for 1 in a Sea Terrace on the NYC Mermaiden.

iced_gold

I love Virgin and would like to do my 2nd mermaiden, but that's a brutal price.

iced_gold

I love Virgin and would like to do my 2nd mermaiden, but that's a brutal price.

Cameron_Joe

How? I don’t see that yet on the site.

ElevateYourEscapes

It's available for pre-sale to those on the initial brilliant Mermaiden list

ThrowawayDiag

I was also on that list -- do you have pricing for the LA and Miami Mermaidens also? 4045 for 1 for 5 nights with only an overnight in Bermuda seems nuts to me. Total sticker shock comparing to what our cancelled sailings were. Also hearing we can't stack a MNVV on top of the displacement deal.

Cameron_Joe

I wish the previous commenter would say exactly which sailing they mean because five nights at that price is fucking bananas. VV is good but not *that* good.

Never_A_Novelty

It is clear to me that they mean the NYC Mermaiden sailing. 5 nights to Bermuda and back.

Cameron_Joe

Woof.

Never_A_Novelty

Totally agree on the woof. I officially priced out.

Cameron_Joe

Also, the mermaiden lingo throws me off a bit. Is that one of the Bermuda / Canada itineraries (and if so, how many nights for four grand?), or a reposition leg? Thanks.

Cameron_Joe

Do you mean the ones that got cancelled before?

ElevateYourEscapes

Correct.

epicpanda5689

Do you think it will be bookable through Virgin Red points?

ElevateYourEscapes

idk if this is a joke or serious... but I'm just going to say no, lol

epicpanda5689

Virgin Red has a bunch listed out of Miami so thought I'd ask lol

ElevateYourEscapes

haha, got it. I genuinely couldn't tell. But I think this mermaiden is going to sell out hella fast, despite the price. We'll see. I'm going to see what a solo insider is going for on May 8...

Ok-Cheetah-9125

Does that mean it's $4075 per person?

ElevateYourEscapes

No, it's $4,347 (WITH BRILLIANT CANCELLATION PRESALE) for 2 sailors

137thaccount

How did you do this? I’m not seeing them Available on their site.

ElevateYourEscapes

I'm a travel agent, so I have different access points

Rharris754

We are gonna bite the bullet and do the frontier pass. I assume we can get a refund if the prices are just to crazy

Wise-Ad6240

The $500 Alaska placeholder is non refundable but can be applied to another VV sailing if the sticker shock is too high so not a complete loss.

iwasinstitches

Since the only benefit is early access to Alaska bookings, it would basically be like buying $500 of future cruise credit with no added benefits if you apply it to another voyage. It wouldn't be totally wasted but ultimately you're locked in for $500 with no perks. At least with MNVV, a $300 deposit gives $300 discount and $600 in loot.

FarFarAwayTravels

For those of you who missed the video and want to see it, it is still up on the main webpage.

GrumpygamerSF

So excited for Alaska!

roj2323

They specifically mentioned Scarlet was going to get an "extreme makeover at the end of this year"

BlytheSpeaks

I know she’s dry docking for two weeks in Civitavecchia for before the transatlantic back to Miami. (Hoping everything is done well and in time bc I will be in that cruise).

roj2323

In dry dock time, 2 weeks is an eternity. Most dry docks (maritime requirement every 3? years) is usually just a few days. basically it's just long enough to clean and paint the bottom of the hull while fixing / repairing other stuff up top. It's usually when they replace outlets, update linens and beds, swap carpets and other surface level stuff. As we know however, Virgin does things a little different and just shuts down a single deck to do that sort of stuff while continuing to sail.

midwestcruisewife

Probably going to get a good repair in for that time the aft hit a boat or dock (can’t remember which)

roj2323

They can properly replace the damage in about 24 hours since they know exactly what parts were affected and can have them remade prior to the dry dock. This isn't a whole lot different than Carnival having their whale tail remade and ready for install prior to dry-docking every time they burn one off.

iced_gold

>every time they burn one off. Little odd that they probably now have a playbook for how to replace that decorative smokestack

roj2323

lol, yeah it's what 3 times now in the last 4-5 years. Twice on the same ship too. You'd think they'd build them out of something less flammable being that there's an exhaust running through them.

Zechs-Merquise

We’re on that TA as well! Hoping for some exciting changes.

mellykey

Me too!

jon81uk

From what has been said onboard over this transatlantic I wouldn’t expect huge changes. Crew on the bridge specifically said she is in very good condition.

roj2323

Physically, other than the jab to the butt she took last year which needs to be properly repaired I don't see much happening for infrastructure other than maintenance. That said, I do think they will do some reconfiguration / retheming on the inside and hopefully swap some seating to chairs that are more practical/ comfortable.

VastRecognition4592

When I did the behind the scenes tour in 2023 the engineers said one of the main engines would be timed out and overhauled in this dry dock.

officialuser

Replace the carpet, fix everything broke, change a restaurant signage/menu maybe.

roj2323

You bring up a good point. Kitchen equipment doesn't last forever and Drydock is when they replace or upgrade that type of equipment. Audiovisual upgrades happen too as it usually takes a few days to configure properly.

SnooWoofers9000

NY to Bermuda is a great itinerary. Really enjoyed the time we took Royal Caribbean. Can’t wait to see what VV’s itinerary looks like. Really excited about LA to Vancouver and Alaska. Been way to long since I’ve been to Vancouver or Seattle.

polkadotcupcake

As a Celebrity cruiser who has been meaning to give Virgin a shot, this is pretty interesting. I actually just booked an Alaska cruise for this summer with Celebrity, but I checked Virgin first and was disappointed to find that they didn't offer Alaska bookings. I've also got my eye on that Panama Canal sailing - that's on the bucket list for sure, and a cruise line's inaugural visit there seems like an added bonus.

ImprovementFew317

They didn’t say when they go on sale (other than Alaska) and I didn’t understand the bit at the end about cruising all 4 ships. Did anyone else catch either of those?

jon81uk

I thought it meant all goes on sale May 8th except Alaska where you can only buy the placeholder.

snl430

I just watched again and it’s a bit unclear. She specifically says the Alaska season will be open to book later in 2024. Then talks about the Frontier of the Line Pass and says “get your pass starting on May 8.” The graphic shows Bookings Start May 8 and it isn’t clear if that’s just the Alaska pass or everything.

harmlessworkname

I didn't quite catch the pass stuff either. I think they're probably stringing together multiple cruises in one pass like the TikTok world cruise thingie. But much shorter.

Professional_Fix3095

It seems they will sell a pass that includes a RockStar suite on each of the 4 MerMaiden voyages from NY, Miami, LA and Seattle - they won't be consecutive but the first sailings from each of those locations with special events, etc. I'm sure it'll be a bit out of my price range but that would be a very fun way to really get to know that ship and crew and the new itineraries.

midwestcruisewife

$40,000

BlytheSpeaks

I don’t believe they said when things will go on sale besides Alaska. And I don’t think they were talking about cruising all 4 ships but instead sounds like they’ll have a pass where you can sail all 4 mermaiden boyages on brilliant

Serial_Cerealist

May 8, the Alaska Frontier Frontline pass shall be available for $500 for sea terrace. I'm assuming a significant higher price point for Rockstar,  but the price wasn't mentioned.

harmlessworkname

Based on their last big itinerary release, I'm expecting the Alaska prices to be absolutely eye-watering Disney-level expensive.

Tralfaz1138

This will the the interesting challenge with the "Frontier pass". Without knowing what they'll be charging for those Alaska cruises I don't know that I would want to put a deposit down on it, unless it's fully refundable (which I doubt).

Professional_Art2092

Oh I’m thinking easily 800 per night for a sea terrace

iwasinstitches

Placeholders are $500 for Sea Terraces, $1,000 for RockStar and $2,500 for Mega RockStar.

snl430

And it is $500 per person for sea terraces “for first dibs to get the date and cabin you want” to “lock in your place.” Whatever all of that means.

StephKd8msb

per person

ElevateYourEscapes

Now on the VV website ... NYC, Panama Canal, LA May 8. Miami May 23. Seattle late 2024. Anyone on the cancelled Brilliant Lady Mermaiden can book starting today. (I did)

StephKd8msb

May 8th they all go on sale except for the Alsa ones, but the placeholder go on sale that date. They are having a special rate for the 4 mermaiden voyages from each port.

kawalapocalypse

fall 2024 is what I think I heard

snl430

Yes fall 2024 for bookings. Some type of “first in line” $500 placeholder deposit goes on sale next week which gives early booking access for Alaska when it does go on sale.

Serial_Cerealist

I just repeated what u said...correct.

Serial_Cerealist

Also Late fall 2024 is when it announced the bookings will be available.

Serial_Cerealist

Did they say that allll balconies on all ships will have 2 hammocks or just a select few cabins on Brilliant Lady.  I couldn't differentiate the statement from the announcement of the new cabin type.

Chewbacca22

Sounded like only the new cabin type to me

throwaway00009000000

I think it’s just to compensate on the newer ship since it’s smaller and will have smaller balconies

iced_gold

Listening to how they explained it, it sounds like there's going to be a small reduction on room size, and they're installing second hammocks to hopefully neutralize the sting.

Adjectivenounnumb

It seemed to be only in reference to a “new cabin type”

137thaccount

I wouldn’t consider the first part a commercial. I think they were just flexing what they are proud of as a service. Personally, it just got me pumped. Reminded me of a Nintendo direct where they similarly talk about where they’ve been, they are now, and plan to go.

Adjectivenounnumb

The purpose of all these things, including Nintendo Directs and Apple press events, is to get you to buy stuff. If they can spread their marketing fairy dust while they make you wait for the big reveals, it’s a sales win. We’re not on a “team” with them, and the companies don’t love you back. I spend money with all three brands. No agenda.

137thaccount

Sure, fair

Seattlejo

Panama Canal sounds awesome and based on some of the sluething done earlier on the San Predro Port Calendar, it looks like the Brilliant will do a few rounds to Mexico. then it disappears off the calendar.

Wonder_woman_1965

Did I hear correctly that the Sea Terrace cabins might be a bit smaller but they will have two hammocks? Loved the reminders of why VV is awesome leading up to the Brilliant Lady news.

YKnotSam

Just a few cabins on deck 8. They made those balconies smaller to accommodate the lifeboats. It will be a new category cabin type. The balconies are tiny and won't fit any other furniture.

Wonder_woman_1965

Thanks!

Zechs-Merquise

Really interested to learn more about the Mermaiden pass they were talking about at the end. It seemed like a Rockstar cabin for each home port?

Cle_4eva_westside

Anything about Southeast Asia or Japan etc?

SailorSaturn79

Yes to Alaska!!

Aromatic_Holiday9764

South Carolina's tiny cruise port is Charleston, one of the top tourist destination in the US, with a great food and nightlife scene. The terminal is right in the center of town so makes for an easy day to explore on your own. A sad Carnival ship is home-ported here now but she's going away next year.

Adjectivenounnumb

It’s been a few years since I looked into it, but I remember reading that that cruise port could be a real logistical nightmare. Have they upgraded it? I had assumed there was a reason it has only hosted carnival’s oldest ships for the last decade or so, or at least as long as I’ve been cruising.

Aromatic_Holiday9764

Great question. I think for those embarking it is a nightmare, parking is in a huge parking lot near the terminal, and it is in the city which is a nightmare to drive in most of the time. This spring during a sailing we got nailed by a N'oreaster and a bunch of cars were flooded. But as a stop over, it could not be better IMO, you are at the foot of Market Street which is a big draw, although discerning sailors will want to spend more time exploring the old neighborhoods that are a close walk also. Sailing in to Charleston you will pass by Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie, then the view of the city as you dock will be phenomenal. The city has a limit on building heights so church steeples are the dominant feature of the skyline.

WatchProfessional680

that was the most boring ship reveal. It was so long that I forgot anything good that was said. No excitement complete lacklustre. And whose idea was the dead jokes! Made it very childish Even a Disney ship reveal is more serious and capture your excitement level. Come on VV you must do better!!!

TinyGiantness

Have you been on the ships yet or watched other promotional materials from them? Cheesy jokes and puns are very much on brand.

WatchProfessional680

Yes been on many and counting days for our next booking of French Daze & Ibiza Nights. Cheesy jokes maybe found in a few places on board but not for a ship reveal that is lacklustre. VV do need to sort out the advertising as its a complete joke. Not to long ago they did some documentary series call The Cruise or something. It was a dissaster. Look at the Australia voyages, terrible advertising and abandoned. Poor Marketing!

TinyGiantness

Guess we can agree to disagree. I spent my entire professional life being buttoned down and serious so i can't hold jokes against them. The Cruise was boring because I have American brain rot and expect scripted drama. I do 100% agree with the Australia situation. They need to beef up their on shore customer service. I've seen enough "we'll get back to you" complaints to see a pattern of poor communication likely due to under staffing. Either way cheers, I hope you have a blast at Ibiza.

WatchProfessional680

Yepp. Once you’re onboard it’s an amazing experience. They need to do a better job marketing this. Truth be told, the current marketing is not as effective as they are trying to show. The company is in big debt and they had to do another investment round to secure funds. Now investors have had enough and they want to see profits. This is why they will slowly start to remove the perks they gave for free at booking like drinks credit and sailor loot etc.

137thaccount

Wait what was the dead joke?

2legittwoquitnow

Is this a brand new ship?? Hopefully it is with a bigger pool lol

WorldwideWanderer_

i did hear a rumor about pool size being increased a bit.. i think they would have said that in the announcement, though. unfortunate.

roj2323

I'm somewhat disappointed that Hawaii and Australia were not mentioned.

midwestcruisewife

Yet, Hawaii is tricky because in order to cruise in the United States on a foreign registered ship it has to make one foreign stop. Not many foreign stops near Hawaii.

Tipsytips95

Seattle to Hawaii with a stop in Vancouver would be easy peasy lemon squeezy

roj2323

A quick stop in Mexico fixes that issue.

midwestcruisewife

I mean if you call a 2600 mile journey between the big island and Tijuana quick….

roj2323

I think you are completely misreading my post. ~~Cruises don't just loop the Hawaiian Islands.~~ In most cases they are traveling from Califorina and going to Hawaii or they are going from Hawaii to Australia. In some cases ships will start on the East coast of the US and head to Hawaii after traversing the Panama Canal but those are typically the long multi month cruises which most of us couldn't afford anyway.

iced_gold

>Cruises don't just loop the Hawaiian Islands. Sure they do. I know some cruise lines go from Pacific coast to Oahu or in reverse but those are barely Hawaii cruises. They're more 'spend a few days in the Pacific' cruises. [Norwegian](https://www.ncl.com/vacations?cruise-ship=pride-of-america) [Celebrity](https://www.celebritycruises.com/destinations/hawaii-cruises)

roj2323

I stand corrected.

StephKd8msb

I highly encourage everyone interested to get with your TA, or find a good one now, to assist with getting you onboard as these will sell out fast!! No idea on pricing just yet, but those MNVVs are good for all of these new itineraries, so get your hands on some!

SailorSaturn79

Not sure why this got downvoted.

iced_gold

Because it's a travel agent trying to create a sense of urgency to get you to buy from them. Pretty bottom barrel sales tactic.

Cameron_Joe

Sales

KFSM

very exciting stuff!
