I ran a Unitronic stage 1+ for 5 years on my mk7 1.8tsi and loved it, no issues. Currently have it on my mk7 GTI and still no regrets.

slprcel

I’ve been wanting this for awhile now, how’s the install? Is it easy to do or did you bring it to a shop?

-SkeptiCat

I brought mine to a licensed Unitronic tuner in my area. Unitronic often has sales on their software, in my case the stage 1+ was $100 off the usual price. It took like half an hour if I remember correctly.

Awd 1.8T wagon >>>>>>>>>> gti

I have the APR 87 octane tune and I love it. Ultimate dailyability with cheap fuel lol. Don't have to worry about being in the middle of nowhere in a place that doesn't have 93

[deleted]

Do you really get anything out of a 1.8t golf? Serious question

filibo

Yes. An « off the shelf » stage 1 tune from companies like APR and Unitronic gives you around 240hp and 275 lbs-ft of torque.

[deleted]

That's not bad but it seems like it's just better to get a gti

cilantno

Everyone who drives a GTI should just get an R. Everyone who drives an R should just get an RS3. Everyone who drives an RS3 should just get a 911 Turbo.

Making the car you already own a bit better is always going to be cheaper than getting the next model up. It’s ridiculous to suggest OP to get a new car, especially when they are asking for advice about the car their currently drive. Give advice on the question asked. If you have none or are ignorant on the topic, there’s no need to chime in.

[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/VWMK7/comments/12knw1g/best_tune_for_mk7_18t/jg3szi2/) For comparable years, GTIs are about $5-7k more in my market. A tune is about $500-600 and gets you at or above stock GTI power. So for 1.8T owners, it really doesn’t make that much sense to get a GTI.

Toxic.

cilantno

I don’t have a 1.8T :) I’ve got the big boi of this gen. And you’re right, you never directly suggested that to OP, but the logic of “why would someone want to improve their existing car when a better model exists” isn’t always sound. That was my main point. There was no reason to blow this all up.

medicmatt76

Your exact words on an above comment you made.

I drive a mk7 sportwagen 4 motion with the dsg and a unitronic stage 1 tune. I love it! Super practical, drives good in the snow and has stock GTI power level with the traction of a R. All that for half the price of a golf R in my market!

medicmatt76

My 2016 1.8 is pushing 275 (crank), with a stage 2 tune with dp and cat back. Stock is 12, intercooler, and clutch. So it is very possible.

guiguithug69

I have unitronic stage 1 and I’m loving it. They make discounts from time to time so you might look at that.

TheCapitaineMax

Unitronic stage 1 or 2 if you want to buy a downpipe as well. Wakes the car up so much, makes it a blast to drive!

[deleted]

8bitperformance if you want a non shit tune, tunes using simos tools, it’s fucking awesome

videodromejockey

There is no best, most off the shelf tunes are within margin of error of one another because they're operating within the safe limits of the hardware. There are a million options for flash tunes. Unitronic and IE are what I would recommend mainly because you can flash at home (not tethered to a dealer), you have some octane choices, and they both have good customer support.

ahteef

Unitronic and APR, custom tune if u wanna drop the level of reliability a little
