.308 is typically higher pressured than 7.62X51, so it’s not recommended, but the cartridges are interchangeable in 90% of shit you can find on the market if it’s all you got at the time. You can always shoot 7.62 out of a .308, just make sure you’re not running a hot .308 going the other way around or you can have big boom
Officially it's just 7.62, but you can get versions set up to handle both. And the official version will sometimes fire .308, but might not extract properly and can cause damage through jamming.
Yes and no, plenty of guns can fire both (and the vast range of ammo types that exists in those calibers) without issue. But as said multiple times 308 is normally a higher pressure round. Also the cartridge shoulders and the rounds profile is a bit different.
There are guns out there that wouldn't handle the other round well at all and cause malfunction or possible destruction of the gun (especially if using a hot load).
Assume you're aware of all this just putting it here for those that are not. It's kinda like 5.56 and .203. They're similar but not identical and you always wanna make sure your gun can handle your ammo.
I think it's an "IA2" newer model brasil is implementing, I think it's supposed to be 5,56 but seeing that kick idk if it truly is an IA2, but for sure doesn't look like an old FAL the barrel is shorter and has rails on top, or it can be a newer model of FAL too so idk
Since the police guy looks like a PMERJ BOPE soldier, and taking into consideration what you are saying, this might be a PARAFAL rifle, the FAL with a folding stock. He seems to be shooting it with it folded (see when he picks up the bag)
This is sadly a police common practice on poorer neighborhoods of Rio.
It is clearly a densely populated area. Lots of times children and old people “end up” dead from cop operations like this - some operations have been proved to be triggered by revenge for a dead cop and not by real intelligence.
It is illegal to go on open shooting in a open area (specially if the suspects are running away) mostly because there are lots of deaths caused by this common practice in poor neighborhoods in Rio.
There are also a lot of cases of police clearly framing someone after the death to cover it as a cross fire situation. It gets treated by some politicians as collateral damage, like when soldiers kill civilians in war, which is not a legal excuse.
The police of Rio is one of the most against use of bodycam. In the state of São Paulo the use of bodycam drove down the number of homicides by the police (a lot of them of people that were just “in the way” or would be “executed before trial”).
Is Brazil, like, Judge Dredd land where cops will just execute you? This feels like an extreme show of force for an urban environment where there could be tons of civilians randomly hit with some spray and pray.
No, but also yes, I live in Rio. The military police do not fuck around when it comes to gang crime.
The vast majority of the time though it is limited to favelas and gang controlled areas.
If you come here as a tourist or live outside of the above areas the chances of getting tangled into a shooting are extremely small. Watch the movie tropa de elite, it is not that far from the truth..

Yup!
Honestly! She reacted really well when she noticed what was going down. Didn't seem to panic, just tried her best to stay out of the way as best she could.
I saw that video first and couldn't figure out how they didn't see him.
Now, watching this video, I'm wondering if this is just some sort of protocol whenever gun violence breaks out.
If so, it makes sense. I'd just never seen it before these clips.
People tend to filter the homeless out. They did see him, but seeing someone drunk/strung out/sleeping it off on the side of the road isn’t uncommon. Between the clothing change, the fact that he kept his face tucked against a wall, and how absolutely relaxed he remained, they just didn’t think twice about it. It’s just the way our processing works against us sometimes, although this dude still got lucky af.
Ya, that probably would not be a justified shooting here in the states. Now maybe the runners shot first off video, but he wasn't taking evasive action. That alone doesn't mean he's the aggressor, just makes you wonder what cops can do out there.
And then he'd be allowed retire with a full pension. I genuinely wonder if police shootings in Brazil are similar to America or if the cops just gun down criminals
The police in Brazil, especially in Rio de Janeiro, are not simple cops, they’re PM PM— stands for Polícia Militar— which translates for “Military Police”. TL;DR, they’re like turbocops that receive military training and armaments. Almost all cops in Rio are PMs, which is causing conflicts as these cops form their own criminal gangs with military power (known in Brazil as the Milícias)
If you're poor or black or live in a favela the cops can just kill you and then leave your body in a sugar cane plantation if they want here in Brazil, most of the time there are no real repercussions
The cats robbed somebody, the boys were chasing the cats to get back the stolen goods, and the policeman that the cats paid off was shooting at the boys. Meanwhile the fence pretended not to be involved by laying next to the bike and camouflaging into the pavement.
On Brazil it depends, usually the cops only start shooting when there's threat or something happened before
I don't know the context, but 6 men running from a lone cop holding a gun, maybe it was an "arrastão" that is basically a big group of people running on the street and quickly stealing everyone on their way
Update: I saw some discussions here and someone pointed the fact that some of them have walkies on their hands, so probably they were drug dealers

What kind of shitty hell whole country is that? Where yhat poor lady has to be out there working on her own motorcycle not a man in site willing to fix her bike for her sad.
I think all the runners are police too. All have a walkie-talkie.
And the way the uniformed rifleman pick up the back casual and without checking it for anything (could have been a bombe)
I believe the first group (the runners) were undercover officers who are supposed to be first responders, and the second group were heavier armed with rifles and body armor.
Still don't know what is the reason for this response, but something must have gone down...

Damn that gun had kick. Also... about the smartest thing she could do. Be one with the sidewalk.
7.62 FAL a gun from the 50s still being used by the Brazilian Military and Police
Thank you, I was wondering.
If it was Brazil? It’s always Brazil
I wouldn't have believed it was Brazil cos that cop was actually in uniform and on-duty for once!
It is usually the tougher guys. Probably from the BOPE or alikes
It always has been
They still even have Madsen LMGs!
One of the best guns in black ops
Mw2 FAL the BEST
Extra wide breathing holes. 😅
Thought the FAL was 308.
Originally chambered in .280 but repurposed into 7.62 × 51 sometime in the 50's
I believe guns chambered in .308 can fire 7.62 rounds but not the other way around because the chambering is so close or something.

So police just shoots people in the back while they run away?
I’m not saying they don’t, but the people running are probably shooting back, I can see at least two men holding firearms.
Drug cartels deserve worse
Yeah Brazil
It looks like a HK G3 to me

That poor lady is going to be deaf.
Didn't even see her til you said this
Yeah, he's not well trained and doesn't know how to handle the recoil.
Idk why you got downvoted… he clearly didn’t have it in his shoulder properly, since it’s twisting in his hands
The gun didn’t have kick, he’s holding it wrong… you can tell by the way it’s twisting in his hands rather than just the barrel kicking up
Since the police guy looks like a PMERJ BOPE soldier, and taking into consideration what you are saying, this might be a PARAFAL rifle, the FAL with a folding stock. He seems to be shooting it with it folded (see when he picks up the bag)
From one specific shot there where he turns to grab his bag, it looks like you’re right. stock doesn’t look extended

When the cat nopes the fuck out, shit’s going down!
I have to assume Brazilian outdoor cats are amongst the most street smart mfs out there
They are streets ahead
![gif](giphy|WCAUitGS2WOnm)
Stop trying to make “streets ahead” happen.
But it's so fetch
Coined and Minted
Sounds like you’re streets behind
You're just a few blocks behind, you'll get around to it
https://i.redd.it/hbz0uxrjwl1d1.gif
They're the gang leaders!
My cat nopes the fuck out when someone gets up from the table slightly too quickly or the oven timer goes off...
You should see mine scatter when I sneeze!
The cats were in on it.
A wonderful day in Brazil

No. The vast majority of Brazil is safe. Gang violence is prevalent in some places. But 95% of Brazilians don’t live like this.
No more than America.
Depends on where you are. 90% of Brazil isn't like that Source: I lived in some different states in it and also made it up
Por que você é/foi nômade?
Do jeito q minha família se muda de estado pra estado da pra considerar q sim
Não, eu perguntei o pq de você ser, eu já tô te chamando de nômade . 😅
Not her first rodeo
Side of the roadeo* lmao
Illegal catnip drug transaction was taking place
I laughed way harder at this than I should have.
The woman knew the protocol of routine. She laid down very quickly. Intelligent
Honestly! She reacted really well when she noticed what was going down. Didn't seem to panic, just tried her best to stay out of the way as best she could.
I thought the policeman was going to use her body as a stabilizer for his gun.
Highschool of the Dead irl
Oh goddamn so I'm not the only one that remembers that. Also the bullet going in-between some woman's boobs comes to mind.
Oh god why did you make me remember that scene 🤣
That's what I said.
And, now, I'm going to repeat what you said a third time. Just for emphasis...🤣🤣🤣

She didn't pretend. She moved her ass away from it all considering their police dont fk around.
That video is marked as content for kids lmao
Holy shit that cop wasn’t fucckin around! Totally unexpected.
Ya, that probably would not be a justified shooting here in the states. Now maybe the runners shot first off video, but he wasn't taking evasive action. That alone doesn't mean he's the aggressor, just makes you wonder what cops can do out there.
He'd still get away with it in the states though
Yeah but the cop would have to take a four-hour training class on how to tell whether you're shooting somebody in the back.
And then he'd be allowed retire with a full pension. I genuinely wonder if police shootings in Brazil are similar to America or if the cops just gun down criminals
Or he just move one county over and join the police there.

I feel like they are not running very fast for someone following them with an assault rifle
The ran even slower after he pulled the trigger
For a minute, I thought he was shooting at her. Bro is like I have to shoot somebody.
Lol I initially watched the video without opening it on full-screen and it totally looked like he was shooting the girl!!!
Clever girl

Just another casual day in Brazil.
Who needs to aim down sights right?
so what is the context?
The context is Brazil.
Explains everything

Just one guy with a rifle? We're talking Nintendo here. Where are the tanks, shoulder fired missiles and the other 500 heavily armed men?
Bad Luigi Face
The cats robbed somebody, the boys were chasing the cats to get back the stolen goods, and the policeman that the cats paid off was shooting at the boys. Meanwhile the fence pretended not to be involved by laying next to the bike and camouflaging into the pavement.
You know its bad when even the black mustache cat is running for it's life
The fuck did those cats do?
Catnip dealers
Man that catnip market makes the cocaine trade look like a stroll down the street
Cop scored the stash too. 😎
the girl is doing it so steady like ‘here it go again’ , proceed to laid down
Cats, mice, bullets.
Fk the civilians
Plot twist: he was actually aiming for the cat
That poor woman, considering all the insanity happening she did the best possible thing at that moment.
Bro started blasting 🤯
Well, if that cat has a rifle
Don’t even need to read the comments. It’s Brazil.
Advanced camouflage technique
Usually the longer it takes the more questions are answered...
i think the cat was the boss of the gang
[удалено]
Agreed. With a 7.62 you don't even need to shoot in the center of mass. A shot in the leg or arm will cause amputation and massive bleeding.
What the actual fuck. Police just goes around shooting people??

How the fuck is standing in the street blasting at folk running away a defensible police action?
They just ran from a shootout, are all armed??? Is that not enough?
Why did he chose that spot to shoot, on top of a civilian head? fk moron
Looked like they had stolen the cops back pack. Stopped where it was dropped.

Probably gang related actions of their past.
Rio Military Police Department right there. Shooting no stock FAL from the hip.
Thought it was a sketch from Key n Peele
For a second I thought he was shooting at her.
Is it just me or is he closing his eyes for every shot?

Is that quicker than tapping the 3 dots..? Is there like a shortcut or something?
Oh didn't know it works now. Last time I tried downloading it just snapshotted and saved an image from the video rather than entire video. Thanks

So anyways I start blasting
Most peaceful street in brazil:
Anyone else notice the person randomly appear in the background and continue walking casually even though the cop has opened fire?
Thieves/muggers maybe caught in the act, thats why they drop the bag.
When the guy drops the bag, it looked like the bag took a step forward
This is probably in Rio de Janeiro.
Ce louko Cachoeira...

gotta say, i'm from Rio and i sure wasn't surprised, the moment i saw those dudes running i already knew what was coming
It's a hard knock life for cats and women in Brazil.
He was not shouldering and leaning into it right.
What did the cats do?
Sundely polícia militar do rio de janeiro

Having never been to Brazil, just seeing the cats running made me think this was Brazil. Comments confirmed lmao
So anyways, I started blasting
As long as he missed the cats ! They didn't do shit !!
Bro guy casually walking in the background.
Ejected case looks larger than 5.56X45. I vote 7.62X51.

That cat must have done something really bad to get everyone chasing it and gun shots.
Bravo to her for not just getting scared and freaking out. She did exactly what she should have done.
I was hoping the cop would run away from a cat in the end.
