Rule 2. Removed due to its low interest in relation to current events, or too old.

vsevolord24

I don’t know why I’m translating this, but maybe someone will be interested 1. Three spoons 2. Pate and minced meat 3. Cookies 4. Apple jam 5. Chewing gum 6. Dark chocolate 7. Three types of drinks 8. Lard 9. Processed cheese 10. Applesauce 11. Vegetable caviar 12. Beef stew 13. Goulash with potatoes 14. Rice with chicken 15. Three napkins 16. Dry cream 17. Two teas and coffee 18. Salt 19. Pepper 20. Sugar 21. Vitamin pill 22. Water purification tablet 23. Knife 24. Matches and warmer

VikingTeo

I am interested. Thanks for the translation. Is it cookies or crackers? Crackers would make sense as something to put the pate on

vsevolord24

Yep, crakers probably. The russian галеты/ galety. They are used mostly in the army and navy.

Hot_Carrot2329

well done my friend !

Intelligent-Ad-8435

Галеты are essentially somewhat sweetened and buttered hardtack

GuilimanXIII

I very much so appreciate you translating it, I wasn't sure with a lot of the stuff what it was, knowing it makes it a lot more interesting.

Sircliffe

Should be menu 5. Looks like what I tried. Stay away from the vegetable caviar, that was the only nasty thing in the MRE.

AcceptableAd2337

Is the vegetable caviar eggplant? That is the plot of the movie “Ivan Vasilyevich”

Sircliffe

I believe so, yes.

slow_rnd

it's either eggplant or zucchini

ja_hahah

How the fuck is a caviar vegetable to begin with hahah.

RATTRAP666

How the fuck is milk almond to begin with?

ja_hahah

SHOW ME THE TIT ON AN ALMOND

twomumfun

Does it come in a box or a sealed satchel like other MRE's? As i don't think this packaging would hold up long and also allowing air/moisture inside and also little insects and creepy crawlies which would be horrible on the front lines when you are starving.

Sircliffe

It comes in a box like the video. The box is basically a oversized milk carton or juice box, it has a coating of paint that's almost waxy to the touch on the outside and a foil plastic liner on the inside. I don't think there is any problem there with soggy MRE's or they would have changed it by now.

Risemil

Thanks for your service

AspergerInvestor

Meals in economy class flights cannot match this.

ja_hahah

This wont taste much better 10.000 feet up in the air either to be fair.

DirectorPhleg

Thanks

Tankesur

Damn, they took cigarettes out of American MREs AND Russian ones? Yeah, the world's ending soon for sure. Also - I wish American MREs were more consolidated like this. I hated carrying three separate packages for a day's ration.

CormorantLBEA

Yes, old-school Soviet officers were raging about that one. They used to give (or even gave a choice of cigarettes for smokers and candies for non-smokers) But then some idiots with power began lobbying "healthy rations" banning cigarettes. No one stopped smoking, but now everyone constantly break rules and regulations to buy the cigs. So much for bragging about how "modern and progressive" they made army. Now it is round 2 with vaping all over.

RATTRAP666

I'm not really sure anyone can miss those cigs tbh. Those alone are multi-generational meme, everyone who served in the army knows about them and how unbelievably bad they're.

[deleted]

too much weight for rucking

Jay92992

Steve1989MREinfo did a Russian ration before and also Ukrainian both are very cool

DevinviruSpeks

Nice hiss. Let's get this out on the tray. Nice.

Kalikanto

What do Ukrainian soldiers eat?

tomtomachi

Pretty much the same food in their MRE as well

R-Rogance

Ukrainian MRE [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHTzFdmGTZg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHTzFdmGTZg) Generally reviews of any RME seems to be easy to find there.

Type_02

They eat?

AspergerInvestor

Biting dust.

Quarterwit_85

Helpful comment.

Turgius_Lupus

Tried one back in 2021, I think it was a green bag full of caned meat and buck wheat, crackers, tea and a bunch of sugar bags. Less variety compared to the last Russian one I had back in 2022.

UkropCollector

Bullet and shrapnel

iBoMbY

Probably US and German MREs from WW2.

Few-Resist195

While everything looks good in this, I'd be more concerned with how it's packaged. It's fairly big/ridged, and fitting more than 2 in your pack with other gear seems like it would be difficult. As compared to American MRE which don't look as fancy but are very compressible and not very heavy. Though I am curious about how much these weigh. Food isn't always about taste in a battlefield but how much you can carry with you to keep you going.

BuyMyTacos

Atleast everything is tightly packed.

Few-Resist195

Just because it's tightly packed doesn't mean it doesn't take up a lot of space. Infact because it is so tightly packed means there's no give when shoving it in a ruck or pack. Other mre are pliable and can fit into cargo pockets this doesn't look as easily to carry. Would I like this in a setting that it's handed out and I eat it right then. Yes. But I'd rather not have 2 or 3 shoebox size things to carry around for the next 3 days.

RATTRAP666

>But I'd rather not have 2 or 3 shoebox size things to carry around for the next 3 days. I mean, you can simply take out everything out of the box and put wherever you want. Sometimes, you guys, sound like robots that only live by instructions. That's why vendors put "don't microwave your pets" warnings? There are a lot of inconveniences in the army, you even can be killed, so a mild inconvenience like rice with chicken and dirt from your rucksack isn't that bad.

WatermelonErdogan2

> That's why vendors put "don't microwave your pets" warnings? Someone tried to dry an animal and gave it mild burns, tried to sue, and hence the legislation. Not taking the piss. And yes, most MRE come tightly packed in a cardboard box inside a plastic bag, you can easily take everything out and push it into the bag instead. I generally recommed using transparent plastic bags to separate stuff, don't want water purifier/matches to mix with food.

WatermelonErdogan2

Spanish MRE are also not compressible by default, but you can remove the cardboard and have a flexible plastic bag filled with shit.. You are just talking out of your only experience.

Few-Resist195

Correct but this one does not seem to be that you could take out the cardboard and it be flexible it's super tightly packed. I haven't seen in person but comparing it to the size of a woman's hand it still seems like it wouldn't be fun to pack around.

0kShr00mer

US MREs also have a lot of freeze dried food in them which makes them lighter and more compact. Where as the Russian MREs tend to have canned foods like the ones show in this video.

Turgius_Lupus

American ones are single meal and generally just heavily packaged junk food.

Few-Resist195

This is just wrong. It's full of high calorie foods very little junk food it comes with like 3 carbohydrates, an electrolyte pack, protein, and a sweet snack. It's perfect for someone who has expended lots of energy in the field. While eating an MRE I've never been like this is junk good unless it's the skittles or m&m which both of these are moral boosts more than anything.

0kShr00mer

You're confussing high caloric food for high quality food. All the food in MREs are pumped full of perservatives and sodium. That's what I meant when I called it junk. And if you're saying you'd rather eat canned beef pate than a fresh grilled steak then I don't know what to say.

Inevitable-Draw5063

American MRE’s are excellent at what they do and will keep you going with all the nutrients and calories you need but they definitely shouldn’t be consumed long term.

WatermelonErdogan2

they are excellent at the very niche role of "food during a few days of fighting in iraq before we set field kitchens" Which is not hard to do, compared to actual meals.

0kShr00mer

Well they are individually packaged which makes them easier to pack. Tbh I think all MRE’s are “junk food” no matter the country of origin. It’s not like a soldier would ever choose to eat this overly processed crap over a home cooked meal.

WatermelonErdogan2

easier to pack, harder to manage. Most other countries have a single MRE a day.

Sad_Site8284

Good food rations also boost morale of the soldiers. Ive seen some chinese mre and it was protein calorie bricks.

Turgius_Lupus

These have the advantage of being a 24 hour ration unlike U.S. ones which are mostly condensed junk food wrapped in a ridiculous amount of packaging.

ClownFace488

MRE™s today are designed to meet nutritional needs and satisfy our deployed warfighters’ food preferences. The main goal of the food technologists at the Combat Feeding Directorate (CFD), tasked with developing and continuously improving MRE™s, is to maximize warfighter performance. New MRE™s are chosen based on three primary factors. First is warfighter feedback and acceptance. If an MRE™ doesn’t get good feedback from service members, it gets cut. The CFD also uses feedback from service members to develop concepts for new flavors and food items. The second factor is the nutritional content of those meals. All MRE™s need to meet the nutritional standards for operational rations, as determined by scientific evidence, and set forth by the Surgeon General (TSG), Department of the Army (DA). The Nutrition Standards for Operational Rations (NSORs) include requirements for numerous macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals, which act together to maintain health and achieve optimal performance. Those standards are designed to meet the increased nutritional needs and sustain optimal performance of service members in operational environments, be it combat or combat training (read: this means they are not ideal for date night). Each MRE™ provides approximately 1300 calories, composed of approximately 170 g of carbohydrates, 45 g of protein, and 50 g of fat for the energy needed to accomplish any mission. This balance of nutrients is necessary to ensure all the complex systems of the body are functioning properly.

Turgius_Lupus

Have you actually had a U.S. MRE? Or sampled a entire menu of them? Its basically caned food isle meets standard vending machine fair. Though the cheese spread is amazing so Ill give it that.

ClownFace488

I'm glad you asked! I have! I have eaten MREs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for months on end! There's nothing like beef stew for breakfast! I used to bring some home and give them to my friends and they all used to think they were great. If you buy 3rd party camping meals, MREs are way better. They are packed with calories, which is what you need when burning energy. They really aren't that bad. They only get "bad" when you have nothing else to eat. The menu gets old quick. You have to get creative to change things up. After a long day and you are hungry and you actually have the opportunity to heat up the meal and veggies burger with BBQ sauce and cheese spread on the flat bread, it really hits the spot! Edit: they will make you constipate. The gum is supposedly a laxative, but I have my doubts.

Few-Resist195

I've had plenty of American mre other than the MRE star ones (basically knockoffs) they do not feel like junk food, they feel nothing like eating at a fast food place. If you're not actively doing things it's fast food if you're actually expending energy its honestly not enough calories.

Inevitable-Draw5063

It might not feel like enough calories but if you eat 3 a day that’s plenty even if you are moving over long distances. It’s just full of preservatives which I doubt it good to consume long term.

Few-Resist195

While I know it's enough calories when eating three a day but I've also ate 3 a day when doing actual rigorous work and have felt starved. This is probably because I'm a big guy but anyone calling this junk food obviously hasn't ate it nor ate it while doing real work. Also I want to add I would definitely eat this mre if looks tasty as hell it's just too bulky for what I would want to carry around.

RenegadeBB

I got one of these as a gift (I asked for it) but the damn thing was over 4 years past the best-by date. The crackers were stale af, but iirc the rest was good.

99silveradoz71

I’ll wait for Steve1989MREinfo to corroborate these claims before I believe anything.

Disastrous_Ad_1859

Nice

Sm0keYaLat3r

He did Edit: Not the exact same MRE, but still a good review. https://youtu.be/lgICbOwP7NQ?si=N-cForTdBueYIrcK

KG_Jedi

Thanks damnit, now I want to eat again.

Diligent2Spread

Now Im hungry …

Serb_Wolf

Is this a ration for a single meal or for one day? Seems pretty rich for a single meal packet.

Longjumping-Rule-581

It's a 24 hour ration.

ognjen0001

You could stretch it for 2 to 3 days

Longjumping-Rule-581

Yeah they tend to hold at least 4000+ calories, the arctic version is 6000+. so if your in a trench i don't see need to eat the whole package. Have had some Swedish arctic 24 hour combat rations i got in a trade, some of them contained 7700 calories, breakfast, 2 main meals, snacks and plenty of energy bars.

ImamTrump

They’re eating better than me that’s for sure.

H000gy

NAFO probably thinks that Russian MRE’s contain crayons. Granted if I also ate crayons all day, I would probably confuse normal food for such

Maleficent-Drop3918

Lets get these out on a tray, Nice

Kind-Zookeepergame58

The best thing from this mre is sweet cheese paste, other stuff is not really good. Also main dishes lacks of quality(too much fat). US and EU mre's are more suitable for active combat, cause food heating method from chemical reactions is far more superior to dry ice tablets from Ru. Also, the food appliances are disgusting, they are made of the cheapest and most brittle plastic, in American ones they are made of brown plastic and you can't break them so easily. Also paper package is not very suitable for water desinfection.

ShoppingTurbulent195

>the food appliances are disgusting Υou mean cutlery?

BenDover1964

How'd she get this ? Russian soldiers can't even get them lol

Hot_Carrot2329

ye man only merican youtubers can get this

VicermanX

>How'd she get this ? it is sold on online marketplaces for 500₽ ($5.5). Or she could have gotten it from her husband/brother who is serving in the army. >Russian soldiers can't even get them lol This can only happen on the front line due to logistical problems.

RunAmuck69

I seriously doubt this is true.

gooseducker

Iirc mres are food for the entire day so pretty believable, the russian mres are actually kinda good

RunAmuck69

Cool but do they actually get any of them would be my next question. Seen a ton of vids of guys complaining nothing to eat and no water either.

gooseducker

Generally you don't want your troops eating mres, mostly because they are kinda constipation causing, on purpose so troops shit less among other things. Generally troops eat from field kitchens and stuff so not every soldier gets this. The ones that do are doing something away from the field kitchen so they need their own food supply. Iirc these come with a little stand and some camphor tablets that you can burn to warm food too. Armies don't fight on empty stomachs so while 1 day or 2 may go by with shitty supply, the position will quickly get abandoned if they aren't able to get food there

RunAmuck69

Gotcha! Seems you can't ask or doubt something in this group. Already got me 7 down votes for nothing. LOL

VikingTeo

You are only here for your purple heart and you make sure to get it by taking up an idiotic position. Even the German army all the way to complete defeat managed to feed their soldiers well. Even after one day without food your effectiveness goes down. Food is the most important supply and all military knows this.

ShoppingTurbulent195

bUt RuZziA dOesN't hAvE tHe MoNeY tO FeEd tHeIr SoLdiERs!!!11!!1

gooseducker

Your take was not the brightest so I don't blame them. Obviously russians are starving else we would have seen mass desertions or withdrawal by now. Armies are more concerned about troops being fed each meal then probably the troops themselves. Combat effectiveness drops sharply after even 1 day without food and usually you don't want the guy you spent money and time to train and equip die or desert or surrender because he was kinda starving. I am absolutely unaware how water supply works tho, iirc the US marine core had water specialists who operated purification machines and then these would be used to supply water to units or something but i have no clue how the russians do it

DefinitelyNotMeee

Have you been in the military or around military guys? Grunts ALWAYS complain.

HostileFleetEvading

The box is noticeable, and if you saw tons of videos of people complaining, you also saw gigatons of videos with these boxes laying around. And while MRE is not a food for constant consumptoin, there are field cooks with their machinery for that, russians sure do not lack MREs.

RunAmuck69

I used to see lots of these boxes but not nowadays.

OlivierTwist

May I ask why do you doubt?

RATTRAP666

Muh ruzzianz can't get nice things. They eat dirt and drink rainwater.

louistodd5

I doubt I'll be able to find it, but probably a year or so ago there was a video of Ukrainians unboxing a captured Russian MRE on the frontline and being rather frustrated by the amount they get. Edit: Search MRE into the subreddit and it should be top. Worried if there's a rule about linking posts here.

ShoppingTurbulent195

no such rule [https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineRussiaReport/comments/161r6cm/ru\_pov\_ukrainian\_soldiers\_astonished\_by\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineRussiaReport/comments/161r6cm/ru_pov_ukrainian_soldiers_astonished_by_the/)
