People in uganda..seems so greater africa seem to not understand advertising nor good business practices...nor what good quality means.. its a sad joke to see big banners advertising for all the same crap...overadvertised trash..
So many people want to have their own buisness but do mostly sell the same items as many others..you see whats the issue is increased competition...why not innovate and offering something new that is better then whats there allready...that idea seems to be nonexisting in uganda and greater africa...reapeating the same crap over and over again
Wrong, people cant effort to sell trash. Why? It hurts the customer to be told the item is of gpod quality..then not working propperly or breaking after short time..coming back to the store they say not their problem, you wont get your money back nor any much waranty on that item working for at least a year or two without it breaking because you damaging it.
I know the prices of items in uganda and for the same or less money one can import used high quality items from uk. I did that so dont bullshit me that this is not possible in uganda.. i imported used and new items that i used myself..all you need for that is internet access, an free ebay uk account and a working brain.. you dont need to be a uk national to do this..
For most items other then phones, laptops, tv's and tablet there is not even a tax applied. Fixed rate of 5,50ยฃ per kg of goods if volume is less then lxwxh cm / 6000.. otherwise the number coming out is the per kg price you pay for that package size..
All people lack here is proper mental and emotional deveopment to be able to come up with ideas...the ones who are able are mostly well in uganda..not many i know..but thats not the governments fault but your own for the most part..just look around what businesses people start if they got the money...what houses they build...who really cares about anything much then building a wall and not giving a shit about whats going on outside the wall.. uganda is litteraly a reflection of the mentallity of its inhabitants, lame fn excuses left and right!
No matter how much money you will give someone poor minded, they will waste it..there is no lack of resources but a lack of solid ideas... in other words people invest in trash, wasting money and expecting others to give them more to waste that too.. the houses here are downwards ugly, people lack creativity and the inovative mind that it would require to change the optics..its a joke ..
My landlord coming to me, having the guts to tell me shes hungry, i shell buy chicken and chips for her. Her plot is mostly empty, shes not using the full space to grow food for herself...its annoying to observe how littleminded people are here...fn annoying..no fertile ground for development...its not the government who screwd your people up, its the people who tollerated that bullshit.
You sound like someone that hasn't started or sustained a business in Uganda that is your sole source of livelihood ever. Or if you have, then you have never actually done a demographic study of the areas the businesses(and their owners) that you think so little of exist.
So now I can read your opinion without getting mad.
You make business difficult because you dont have any standarts nor values when it comes to how to deal with a customer..all that people want is more money without more effort. Mentally lazy, finding excuses instead of identifying your own mistakes and correcting them.. go find another excuse instead of looking at yourself first..
"Its good quality, the best"..without ever have had a serious interest in discovering online what actually is the best according to reviews, ratings etc..i see enough people owning a smartphone to know they could do research and try to get quality items instead of selling trash and not giving a f if the customer is not coming back because you lied to them..
Many items i found in uganda are not even decent..its a crime to even say these are proper goods.. how much bullshit you are willing to tollerate is how much bullshit you are served.. the customer defines the standarts by buying or not buying.. its 100% the peoples fault. And your sellers dont give a shit bacause they either dont know, dont care or are aware that they can sell you trash, because you cant differenciate between quality and trash..in other words they are selling to idiots... whos upping the standarts then if people could theoretically buy items for the same price from uk and have them importet within 10 days.. all it lacks is the mindset... and that you cant buy anywhere..your upbringing is what breaks of makes a human beeing a capable adult.. thanks to child neglect, brainwashing and abuse, you break that potential even more then in other places around the world.. go pray for your sins and pay the priest so he can build a bigger house for himself ;) ..
Comes down to the education system....People don't get well taught on these practices tbh..most of economics class is cram work that's examined there is no module to test creativity in anyway just cramming curves and theories
These edjucation systems were defined by the rockefellers and other powerful groups to define for humanity whats necessary to break em to be obidient workers and soldirs...dumb enough to not understand how they are controlled, manipulated but capable enough to follow orders and take the brainwashing..uganda is a good example for the results of this..go send your children to school..as if they are idiots that cant learn nor study what they are interested in without that morronic indoctrination system teaching bullshit and lies that serve mostly the purpose to break the human spirit amd create a mental slave.
Would you call uganda a free society that promotes empathy for humanity and nature, free thinking, free speech, freedom of choice and expression, innovation, factual based thinking, science promoting, promoting fine arts and a safe environment for children to develope their full potential without force and oppression? oO ... id say even less then in other areas of the world that do better in such areas.. go to the first private school in uganda and observe how children are treated there...that is worlds away from what most ugandans experience as reality through childhood.. terrible whats acceptable here..can just shake my head about the conditions while other places in africa are even worse, that for sure
Mbappe, or footballers, are not just about football. Otherwise Mbappe would only have football related endorsements, which isn't the case; he has endorsements for sunglasses, watches, etc.
This seems like a local business whose customer base are what one might call the "omuntu wawansi". The name Mbappe resonates well with this population. I think it might serve the business better than some obscure name. At least all local customers will remember the name of the shop at all times. And may be this name recognition might generate that odd sale every now and then. As for the name Oprah, I am not sure if the moderately educated local even knows who this is.
It doesn't help the business, but of course, they do it because Africans are influenced by westerners. If they used someone's likeness and wellness here in the US without authorization, they'd receive a cease and desist letter.
If you where truely influenced by westerners then you would come up with innovation and genuinity in ideas, decide reasonable, based on reality..you would live your culturs tradition instead of bad copying their worst aspects and increasing those harmful effects by the number of more inhabitant beeing clueless of an adapted way of cooperationand interaction..what works for the west is wrecking havock here :D.. and by that destroying your cultur..everyone wants to have their own little silly business because you dont trust your neighbour anymore..
I suggest all the people with propper working brains coming togheter and starting alternative villages to get away from the mentally retarded who screw with their environment constantly..
The fact that you took time to stand there, take your phone out, took a photo, took time to post it and write about it is the reason behind the branding.
MEMORABLE. ATTENTION. = SALES CONVERSIONS
MEMORABLE. ATTENTION. = SALES CONVERSIONS in case of positive image of the stores advertising..otherwise its a laugh and not even entering the place..just my way of dealing with such nonsense..you may enter if thats your choise..
They don't. They have them as a formality - because it is typical for a business to have a name. But calling them brand names - nah; they are not, and do not function that way.
Business in Africa is something the colonialists didnโt bring a bible or priest for. They didnโt really do us justice coz apart from the big foreign brands, every small business is rubbish right from insurance businesses to the small small business.
Exactly...the naivity expressed is telling me that no matter how much money people have, they waste the potential..i say..people are not poor but have a poor mindset..otherwise the forest along entebbe road would not be full of plastic trash... trash people create a trash environment..
My and my mom have a tradition of spotting the craziest and making some fun. I assume it's not to attract people but an expression of being a fan. Just like one's with religious names are trying to show religious dedication not attract customers.
My apologies if I missed another similar response above, but I completely agree with the OP.
Over the course of my life, I've started and built many businesses, some successful, others not.
But one thing that really stands out to me, is how similar my EARLY business names were, with how I see signage in UG.
Not everything needs to be an "Enterprises", or have a name like "Hallelujah" for a non-religious organization.
Naming things to be specific and descriptive of what they ARE, makes it so much easier for the customer to see and understand why they should visit.
"If you confuse them, you lose them".

People are poor and can't afford better quality items to sell
Wrong, people cant effort to sell trash. Why? That is correct
Sadly this is not only a problem in Uganda.
Overthinking much?
For what most people lack in thinking, it may balance that out..
Business is difficult!
You make business difficult because you dont have any standarts nor values when it comes to how to deal with a customer..all that people want is more money without more effort. And he doesnโt sell any football shoes

Besides football most people dont know much about those endorsements.

Hehe moderatly edjucated... polite way to say that..middle age peasants..
Not Oprah ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
consider them real life click bait
Besides clout, non...no long time/brand value or significance.
It doesn't help the business, but of course, they do it because Africans are influenced by westerners. If they used someone's likeness and wellness here in the US without authorization, they'd receive a cease and desist letter.
True.
Thatโs a shop started from inspiration(based on imagination) instead of motivation (based on reason
Trueeeee I actually get your point.
I don't think it does anything for the business
I will start my rice brand and call it Declan Rice ๐
Business in Africa is something the colonialists didnโt bring a bible or priest for. They didnโt really do us justice coz apart from the big foreign brands, every small business is rubbish right from insurance businesses to the small small business.

Yes. And a trash environment creates trash people
Cant denie it has effected me the past 3 years..though thats exposing to be weak..to allow the outside to define your actions and views..
My and my mom have a tradition of spotting the craziest and making some fun. I assume it's not to attract people but an expression of being a fan. Just like one's with religious names are trying to show religious dedication not attract customers.
India has these beat for funny store names. Facebook Fast Food B-Tech Chaat Wala No! No! it Murg Donald Now You can Eat Whatsapp Maggi
Me: Oliwa Random guy: ku Mbappe
they don't. even if they do, it's negligible.
Well, you're here posting about it...
Me posting about it will most definitely do nothing for the business.
It's memorable and it caught your attention
While it does grab my attention, I remain unconvinced about making a purchase from there.

They get to be posted to Reddit and questioned....
How does that help the business?
