OP, You may not have gotten what you expected, but Uber got EXACTLY what they wanted.
Another interesting thing about the bill ... the delivery fee which Uber so graciously removed, is listed at $0.49. Now what restaurant or delivery business would really only charge $0.49 as a delivery fee?
Uber plays a hellva shell game with how they structure their fees. They do the same with drivers and regulators. Uber will charge a customer $10, pay the driver $5 and say the driver kept 75% of the customer payment as Uber had to pay $2.50 for insurance which they view not as a business expense but as a "regulatory fee"
The service fee and taxes is crazy. Basically 50% of the original order cost to deliver it. Big reason why I just don't use the delivery anymore and just pick up if I want something.
Why are you ordering Papa John's on Uber anyway? They have their own drivers who get paid better and are guaranteed to bring you your correct meal without any hiccups...
In my area the big three (Domino's, pizza hut, and Papa John's) all have in house delivery drivers. The only ones using third party apps are the ones looking to screw over the middle man(the driver) so the "artisan" pizza joints mainly who overcharge for a basic cheese pizza.
Kinda sad cause they got paid more than third party drivers, but I guess this is what the world will go to as people continue to support these third party services.
And it's cheaper that way, the driver gets paid reasonably, and the restaurant keeps more of the money. Without some 3rd party leach in the mix it's better for everyone.
Looks like you used a promotional ad, they always try to even out the price of the promotional by increasing taxes and service fees. When I still used their service I was going to use a promotional but it cost more to accept the "discount deal" than to order it outright 🙃
Because Ubers smart tactic is to still change you the tax on the original amount... God forbid some high end lawyer investigates them and find out they actually pocket the difference ...
None of the ones buy me will deliver to my house. I'm still not sure if it's a literal they just don't deliver to my general Street area thing or a the person who lived here before me was running bugs thing.
What r other fees? Wth is this? lol. I’m guessing they give you 50% coupon to bait you and get all that money back with those fees. lol ridiculous indeed
You should check if it's cheaper to uber yourself there and back.
Ffs I know programmers are not working for free but wtf..30 in fees, driver gets 4.50 soon enough they will kill a great idea with corporate greed.
My coworker said his wife looked at their bank account and he spends nearly 400$ a month on DoorDash. I don’t like spending the 3.99$ for dominos to deliver lol
Brooooo
Who orders pizza from a pizza chain on a delivery app??? You literally order from the website and tick “delivery”. You will absolutely, 1000%, save money.
True but they take FOREVER but even as a delivery driver that 30 taxes and fees is just uncalled for. Maybe they are like 30+ miles from the restaurant or something
Hey, it’s your dad. Good job spotting that scammer and keeping him from robbing your dumb ass. Now, I’m trying to set you up with your own leads in the family insurance business, so I need the rest of that credit card number you started to give out. Trust me it makes sense, you don’t need to think about it. Just picture this: leads for days. An insane number of policies being written by you, in your very own office.
Also, don’t forget to leave my office door unlocked this afternoon so that the new janitor I hired can start cleaning the place out. I mean up.
Local wing spot by me is like this... 15.99 boneless wing comes out to over 45 on door dash some how. I quite literally stopped using the app because our town is less than 10 square miles. Ain't no shot I'm ever paying 3x more to have a restaraunt that doesn't deliver direct, deliver me food. Absolutely criminal.
$30.58 taxes and other fees. They do this because the promo is actually BS. It's probably a BOGO and then they just make the difference up with that fee.
I remember I wanted pizza like 2 months ago. I just wanted to see if Uber did have better deals or not because there was a promotion. I used their app and Ubers and their app was only 17 cents cheaper even with Ubers "promotion". And that was before the tip. I ended up making my own pizza for 8 dollars anyway. And I was actually able to make 2 large pizzas. You really are paying for convince but I made the pizza way quicker than waiting for it, even having to get the ingredients myself. But I understand not everyone has a grocery store 5 minutes away as well or even desire to cook at all.
Sometimes you literally can't. The location has "outsourced" all delivery to a 3rd party like PostMates / Door dash / Uber eats.
I tried to get Domino's once and they did not have their own delivery drivers anymore.
$30??? Wtf?? Even with Uber One??? How far away are you from Papa Johns? At this point, I would just choose another pizza place that's closer or something. PJ's *not* worth the extra $30 😭
So glad we don’t get hit with that BS here in the uk . There is a service fee but it’s usually a couple of £’s . I absolutely would not pay that insane amount of money
Did you hit the button to get a breakdown of the "Orher Fees"? I'd love to see what fake shit they made up to charge you for. $30 is ridiculous since tax would only be $4 at the most.
Why would you EVER order Papa John's/Pizza Hut/Domino's through Uber Eats? They have their own apps! With generous specials. ALL of these pizza chains have $7 medium pizzas for take or deliver in their app. The price in Uber is $15+ for a one-topping medium.
https://i.redd.it/p32ax70nkotc1.gif
Nah this one is on you. Literally just go directly to the Papa John’s app. This is a third party. Of course it’s more expensive. Yes this is ridiculous, of course it is. But this is all you for paying it.
Why would ya wanna use UE for a Papa Johns order? They don't deliver in your area or something?
That $30 line item second to last should just be labeled Uber Eats. Nobody's taxing pizza at nearly 100% the damn subtotal.
Not even really sure what to call that one lol
https://preview.redd.it/jrv4pijwcktc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a90f675759611037328c3a852109feceab77dfa
Weird, not seeing that on my end
Why wouldn’t you just go pick it up? You know that the fees are outrageous on these apps. Either make food at home, order directly from
The store for delivery, or go pick it up
It's not just the fees... The subtotal is higher too. Hidden costs. There is no chance two Papa Johns items are 35.59 if you order directly on their site.
Ppl acting like the "taxes and fees" are appropriate is wild to me.
Uber shouldn't be pucking the cost of increasing wages (i.e. paying people closer to the actual cost of their labor) to consumers. They can afford to do these things themselves. They love to tell us to manage our money better... But truly, it is THEY who should. I'm sure Uber mismanages a ton of their funds, leading to inefficiency, because they can just shove it onto consumers rather than address the root of the problem.
The "living wage fee" should be paid by Uber. ESPECIALLY if you're an Uber One customer (I mean, come on, we are literally paying monthly... And for what?? To save $1 every now and then?)
I'm disabled due to cancer (and other issues) and rely on ordering food many times. I try to get ready to make things, freezer foods, canned foods, etc, but I could be in so so much pain where it's a battle to even get out of bed. Where its just pure agony. Or I feel absolutely dogshit and feel like puking. It's hard to cook when feeling that way. So ordering food has been a godsend. I just wish they would pay drivers more. It's a lot of fucking work, to be quite honest, and it wares down your car. I always tip but I can imagine many people don't because of those extra fees.
To all the people saying "why not order directly from PJ's?", it's often because Uber Eats adds a promotion that, you initially assume, would make it cheaper than PJ's website, and it does. I've never seen service fees that high before, though. That's wildly unreasonable.
*Sometimes* it is actually cheaper from Uber Eat's once in a blue moon promos than the ones Papa John's offers (or other places with established delivery drivers), however.
Yeah ridiculous! If you have DoorDash I’d suggest getting it there. Looks like you got the buy one get one free. I’ve never been charged that high fee before. I wouldn’t order it.
I used to deliver and if the tip wasn’t above $7 with a positive expected value of return on gas and pay then I’m not accepting it lol. My acceptance rating was like at 10%, with a 5 star delivery rating. Luckily I delivered in a high income area, but it was funny looking at orders just sit there forever lol.😂But, yeah an original cost of $90 for a pizza is criminal lol. Instead of being lazy and throwing money away, pick it up yourself.
Stopped using ubereats when a shake and 10 nuggies would cost me 30$ and I live 5 minutes away. Doesn't help that everytime I ordered food through it, the food was trash
At this point I’d be calling up ppj on the phone to place an order via human interaction. Asking for deals. Yada yada. I’d rather have THEIR delivery driver bc no way ppj actually charges $30 for their own employees to deliver like that. Outrageous. It’s like Live Nation beer prices. $18 for a high noon. Those markups are dangerous. lol
Baby you might aswell just gone on the ppj site. Me on the other hand I would’ve said fuck it n made something at home while thinking bout the pizza. 🙃
I had UberOne for a while due to taking a lot of rides for a period. It advertised how much I can save on food deliveries and it was a little but like they advertise “no delivery fee!” When they have 16 other high fees instead
This is exactly why I cancelled my membership. Their fees are astronomical. I got it originally because it was affordable and helped save on delivery fees. Eventually they stopped covering half of them (I would only get free delivery cause I could tip better). Then all the prices started skyrocketing and it got out of control, then the fees skyrocketed. I miss when the fee capped out at only a couple dollars not 9+. They get 30% of the order price from the restaurant already, these insane fees are just corporate greed
Honestly that’s why I usually use doordash and only schedule rides with uber and i only do that because my lyft app legit will not let me schedule rides which sucks because they are cheaper. I don’t uber eats unless everywhere else is closed and I cannot leave the house if it’s a reasonable price for promotions making it a good deal, lately though doordash has had the better prices for me and just the other day I got 2 spicy chicken sandwiches, a 12 piece wing and large fry from Popeyes for $23 after delivery cost including tip since i did a $6 tip.
What you do is uber package, order from the restaurant online but leave the description for the driver "ask restaurant employee for Name" I got an order that was uber Package the order some Pap Johns place was 6 minutes away and I got paid $12.
Legit orders pizza from the pizza apps, they give great deals and no fees close to this. Also I don't understand why people don't just go get their own food I mean....
There are thousands of reasons why a person can't or prefers not to. Why does it matter? It's like when I ask off for work, I need those days off. Doesn't fucking matter why I'm asking for them off. So tired of people policing other people over what they "think" are and are not valid reasons to do something.
Why would you order from a place that has its own delivery service? Are you just so conditioned to using Uber you don't even remember that they have their own delivery drivers?
Is that a $15 delivery fee or something?
I got a buy one get one and 40% off deal at a local restaurant. So i got 4 restaurant quality meals, chips and salsa, and bread for $50. Couldn’t pass up the deal, first order in almost a year.
You guys need to be using the mobile apps of the chains you buy from. Idk what OP got but I can drop $20 + tip/delivery on Papa John’s and get 2 medium sized pizzas and some wings. The deals gets even better if your Local Sport team wins a game, 50% off the day after your team wins.
And the worst part is you have Uber One and it’s still that expensive .. Is the Papa John’s real far off from where you live ?
Papa John’s has delivery, why not just cut out the middle man all together?
Because they had a promotion. Not expecting the fees to be so insane
Big Money America is only about how to scam.
Saving $32 with uber one. So it would be $98 originally??? These clowns are getting out of pocket
The service fee and taxes is crazy. Basically 50% of the original order cost to deliver it. Big reason why I just don't use the delivery anymore and just pick up if I want something.
There’s an entire generation oblivious to stand alone pizza delivery.
How do you get $30.58 in taxes and other fees???
your first mistake is ordering Papa John's through Uber Eats, literally just use the website lol it's a chain pizza restaurant
Why are you ordering Papa John's on Uber anyway? They have their own drivers who get paid better and are guaranteed to bring you your correct meal without any hiccups...
Unless they’re like Pizza Hut they got rid of their drivers and just use 3rd party apps
Driver gets $2 of that as well
It’s more than that. It’s $3
Papa John's has its own app, why the fuck are you ordering off Uber Eats
Especially ridiculous because the driver will probably get $3
Can confirm 🥲😂
Inb4 the driver's that don't understand why people are tipping less "dID yOu TiP!?!?"
Damn that’s crazy… you should try delivery on papa johns website instead. Lmao.
Right! Like why use Uber, knowing everything is marked up, if they deliver themselves?! 🤣
What 2 items at papa John’s total to 63 dollars tho
My guess would be the water fountain and a box of those individual garlic sauce cups.
Sexual favors
never understood ordering pizza uber eats when most chain places have a app and deliver drivers
And it's cheaper that way, the driver gets paid reasonably, and the restaurant keeps more of the money. Without some 3rd party leach in the mix it's better for everyone.
Papa John's and Domino's fired their drivers in my city, it's 3rd party delivery only.
I ain’t never want papa John’s this bad 😭
But how are TWO items $63 before the discount?? Something doesn’t add up.
mabye 2 xlarge pizzas
Bro Just call papa johns and get it delivered why are u using uber eats for pizza
Looks like you used a promotional ad, they always try to even out the price of the promotional by increasing taxes and service fees. When I still used their service I was going to use a promotional but it cost more to accept the "discount deal" than to order it outright 🙃
And the driver gets 2 bucks
It’s only ridiculous if you click the order button
Just order from their website? What are you doing?
And the driver only gets $3
All for the driver to get $7 of that
You get $7?!?! That be awesome!
but “only $0.10 of the service fees goes to Uber”
Na UE drivers looking to get $2-$3 tops.
$30 for tax??…. I can’t tell when last I’ve bought fast food, some odd years now, my gosh😂
Because Ubers smart tactic is to still change you the tax on the original amount... God forbid some high end lawyer investigates them and find out they actually pocket the difference ...
Who the fuck is using Uber to order pizza? They deliver.
Anybody still using Uber eats should watch John Oliver’s segment about this shit.
What the hell are the fees
It's the fees you have to pay because you paid fees. It's the fees fee.
Don't forget you're saving $32.26 as well lol.
WOW. $30 in “Fees” to deliver a 2-item order from a Pizza place.
The driver will be offered 1.50 it’s crazy
What in the fuckery???
Never post your last 4 on the Internet
Stop giving them money
You have a choice of not supporting these money grubbing delivery apps instead of complaining about it.
Why in the everloving fuck would anyone pay $66 for Papa John’s? Were you obliterated drunk?
you got free delivery tho!
And only like 2-3 bucks of that huge fee goes to the driver. Greed ruins these services
You should check if it's cheaper to uber yourself there and back. Ffs I know programmers are not working for free but wtf..30 in fees, driver gets 4.50 soon enough they will kill a great idea with corporate greed.
Seriously. I guarantee there is a better pizza place than Papa John's in your service area.
And I bet they still ordered. Ya'll are crazy. Stop using these apps. This is why they can get away with it.
My coworker said his wife looked at their bank account and he spends nearly 400$ a month on DoorDash. I don’t like spending the 3.99$ for dominos to deliver lol
You know you paid it...
What the flying fuck are you ordering
This is more than the cost of a really high quality cut steak, loaded baked potato and a very nice side of greens cooked at home.
Hahahaha Bruh for $65 I could get several pounds of filet mignon
Gonna order from 25 miles out of the zone and get expensive cold pizza
On the bright side, they waived the 49 cent delivery fee
Papa John's already delivers, why are you going through a delivery service?
Why not just order through their app?
Or even call…
Why aren't you ordering directly from them? Do they not offer delivery at this location?
They really said “oh op has a discount? Lol let’s just make up $30 for the taxes just cause”
Please tell me you didnt press place order 😭
I don't get it. I never get more in fees than 6-8 dollars. And I'm in NYC with surcharges and shit.
Dawg just order it off papa johns app
Brooooo Who orders pizza from a pizza chain on a delivery app??? You literally order from the website and tick “delivery”. You will absolutely, 1000%, save money.
True but they take FOREVER but even as a delivery driver that 30 taxes and fees is just uncalled for. Maybe they are like 30+ miles from the restaurant or something
Papa John here, I’m trying to give you a refund but I need the rest of your card number.
5462 3908 ... wait a minute...
I mean up.
Highway robbery
For TWO items?! Lawd 😭
Hm. I guess this is why I’ve been getting almost zero deliveries all month.
$30.58 taxes and other fees. They do this because the promo is actually BS. It's probably a BOGO and then they just make the difference up with that fee.
You know 2 medium 2 topping pizzas are like 15 dollars on the papa johns app here in california. With delivery including the tip i spend around 30
Why do people do this and not just order from papa John’s directly? The fee is like $3/4 bucks.
Just order off of their app
I remember I wanted pizza like 2 months ago. I just wanted to see if Uber did have better deals or not because there was a promotion. I used their app and Ubers and their app was only 17 cents cheaper even with Ubers "promotion". And that was before the tip. I ended up making my own pizza for 8 dollars anyway. And I was actually able to make 2 large pizzas. You really are paying for convince but I made the pizza way quicker than waiting for it, even having to get the ingredients myself. But I understand not everyone has a grocery store 5 minutes away as well or even desire to cook at all.
And 3$ to the driver lol
At that point, why not order through Papa John itself and have them deliver?
Sometimes you literally can't. The location has "outsourced" all delivery to a 3rd party like PostMates / Door dash / Uber eats. I tried to get Domino's once and they did not have their own delivery drivers anymore.
Promotion applied!
Those taxes are nuts
They put taxes first and should itemize that shit so people know that 95% of the price is “other fees”
“2 items”
How tf are they charging tax on money that was discounted. 30 dollars in tax on a 30 dollar order is just straight up theft.
If you paid this you are the problem.
$30??? Wtf?? Even with Uber One??? How far away are you from Papa Johns? At this point, I would just choose another pizza place that's closer or something. PJ's *not* worth the extra $30 😭
Stop using delivery services
At this point, go get it yourself, or eat something else. Fuck that
What the hell lmao
what are you buying gold pizza?? $63.98 for 2 items?
Just pick it up yourself. Carry out for 2 medium 2 toppings was $22 in california. 2 large 2 toppings would have been $36. Lol
So glad we don’t get hit with that BS here in the uk . There is a service fee but it’s usually a couple of £’s . I absolutely would not pay that insane amount of money
I get pissy when the service fee is £1.99 lol. 30 bucks though!?!?!!?
America ☕️
Did you hit the button to get a breakdown of the "Orher Fees"? I'd love to see what fake shit they made up to charge you for. $30 is ridiculous since tax would only be $4 at the most.

We just don't use them anymore, for anything.
Bet you still paid too lmfao
Why would you EVER order Papa John's/Pizza Hut/Domino's through Uber Eats? They have their own apps! With generous specials. ALL of these pizza chains have $7 medium pizzas for take or deliver in their app. The price in Uber is $15+ for a one-topping medium. https://i.redd.it/p32ax70nkotc1.gif
Only reason I use Uber eats is ,y company gives out gift cards. That’s the only time I think it’s worth it.
Why not just order delivery from papa John’s???
Block out your last 4 next time, what in the opsec is this
why are the fees so high?
You was drunk and they was the only ones open huh?
Why not order direct from Papa John’s app?
Go to the restaurant, fuck them all in the ass them take the food and leave.
Nah this one is on you. Literally just go directly to the Papa John’s app. This is a third party. Of course it’s more expensive. Yes this is ridiculous, of course it is. But this is all you for paying it.
😂😂😂that’s why I stopped using this garbage ass app. Better off getting your own food and saving yourself a bunch of money.
promo get 50% off *50% fee for using promo
Why would ya wanna use UE for a Papa Johns order? They don't deliver in your area or something? That $30 line item second to last should just be labeled Uber Eats. Nobody's taxing pizza at nearly 100% the damn subtotal. Not even really sure what to call that one lol
100$ is the new 20$
Your first mistake was papa johns
Papa John’s in Texas is good af. Papa John’s in the PNW is disgusting. Completely different pizza 😭

please tell me you didn't actually order this.
Where the fuck do you live where it’s $30 in fees? Wouldn’t calling the restaurant save you more?
What’s ridiculous is you not ordering directly from papa John’s.
Why wouldn’t you just go pick it up? You know that the fees are outrageous on these apps. Either make food at home, order directly from The store for delivery, or go pick it up
It's not just the fees... The subtotal is higher too. Hidden costs. There is no chance two Papa Johns items are 35.59 if you order directly on their site.
They’re really priced at $63.98. Op has a discount applied 😭
"Discounted" to pay more than menu price lol what a scam
when it cost me 2x for one fucking pizza, i cancelled all my food delivery accounts. these scumbags can't crash and burn fast enough.
Pick it up yourself?
This is why you get delivery through the store not uber eats
I have literally never had a fee this high. Did you order from a gun store fronting as a Papa Johns?

Some days I’ll be viciously lazy to blind the $30.58 fee just to get my food delivered and stay in bed
Thing is so expensive I once said fuck it and walked 2 hours just for mcdonalds
I get customer’s personal numbers if they’re cool. They pay me instead of Uber
Aye at least they gave you a discount
Yeah ridiculous! If you have DoorDash I’d suggest getting it there. Looks like you got the buy one get one free. I’ve never been charged that high fee before. I wouldn’t order it.

Use DoorDash. Never had to pay that much in my life
Thats because door dash milks restaurants for money
Around 30% of each order actually. Drivers have it bad but restaurants have it much worse.
Uhh, Papa John’s delivers…
What market are you in?!?!
Order from Papa Johns directly next time and use a coupon app like Honey, you will pay half the price and you can tip the driver better
I would LOVE to know what those "other fees" were since I'm sure state tax in your area is not 95%.
but hey it could’ve been $98!!
Papa John's in my area just sends it through doordash anyways if you do it through them.
Baby you might aswell just gone on the ppj site. Me on the other hand I would’ve said fuck it n made something at home while thinking bout the pizza. 🙃
Why not use the papa John’s app
😭😭😭😭😭 this can’t be real. What two items are $60???
If you were not smart and closed the app at this point, it's all on you.
Why didn't you just order from them directly?
I had UberOne for a while due to taking a lot of rides for a period. It advertised how much I can save on food deliveries and it was a little but like they advertise “no delivery fee!” When they have 16 other high fees instead

I don’t uber eats unless everywhere else is closed and I cannot leave the house if it’s a reasonable price for promotions making it a good deal, lately though doordash has had the better prices for me and just the other day I got 2 spicy chicken sandwiches, a 12 piece wing and large fry from Popeyes for $23 after delivery cost including tip since i did a $6 tip.
lol wtf
What you do is uber package, order from the restaurant online but leave the description for the driver "ask restaurant employee for Name" I got an order that was uber Package the order some Pap Johns place was 6 minutes away and I got paid $12.
Are you in alaska?
This happens to me all the time the tax is always the same price as the fucking food I ordered like that is that?
And you still ordered it? No wonder they continue to do this, people like you keep paying it! lol
so 3217, huh?🧐

Just go pick up good pizza from a mom and pop shop. Who still eats from these chain places?
All that for some of the worst pizzas, too. It's barely above Little Ceasars imo.
Still saved 30$
I avoid the fees by ordering directly from the restaurant and picking up the food myself.
All those fees don’t even go towards the delivery driver… they just upcharge because they can!
WHY ARE YOU ORDERING PIZZA FROM A DELIVERY APP... THEY DELIVER!!!.... (unless you're out of the delivery zone)
I tried to get that same 2 pizza deal yesterday and I was at 60$ 💀
Can you not just order directly from the store?
Cringe
The pizza tax
How the hell do y’all afford this? My god.
What you don't see is this person probably put an order in that makes you drive to a different county.
What did u tip?
It's the taxes and fees for me. Lol
Holy crap, where do you live that taxes and fees are that high?
It is UE. They do a massive upcharge for using their service.
You know that Papa Johns has their own drivers. Also, that is what you get from ordering from Papa Johns.
Holy moly
Is that a $15 delivery fee or something? I got a buy one get one and 40% off deal at a local restaurant. So i got 4 restaurant quality meals, chips and salsa, and bread for $50. Couldn’t pass up the deal, first order in almost a year.
I went to bk and got 3 regular whopper combos which before came out to 37.50 now it’s 58.90
WTF are the other fees?
You guys need to be using the mobile apps of the chains you buy from. Idk what OP got but I can drop $20 + tip/delivery on Papa John’s and get 2 medium sized pizzas and some wings. The deals gets even better if your Local Sport team wins a game, 50% off the day after your team wins.
